I'm more of a Constructed player at heart than a Limited player, and I tend to do much better at Sealed than at Draft unless I've had a lot of practice with a set (or just rely more on 17lands data than my own judgment). When Reality Fracture came out, I used my two Sealed tokens from the Play Bundle on Arena, and both times I had a much harder time than usual building my deck and ended up doing worse than I expected even though each sealed pool had an Elder Sphinx (one had the G/W one, the other the G/R one) so it's not like I completely lacked bombs. I haven't tried any drafts yet and haven't quite finished listening to the set review LR podcast or started listening to the "Format Overview" podcast. (Side note: I'd much rather read than watch or listen to Magic content, because I can read like 3x faster than I can understand spoken language - this might be a neurodivergence thing - but there are very few people like LSV when it comes to Magic strategy, so I just let the podcasts play when I'm driving.)
I used to play Limited sometimes in the MTGO days and really wish I could do Bo3 pod drafting like on MTGO ten years ago because it's just a way better way to play than Bo1 against whoever opened and/or got shipped the most broken stuff by the people in their own pod once you reach 4 or so wins, but I can't afford to shell out that kind of money to lose at Magic and I'm worried that my EV on playing Reality Fracture at all is going to end up too low to have been worth it - I'd honestly rather play more The Hobbit or even TMNT drafts because they're simple enough that I managed to end up fairly comfortable with the formats and I like to be able to just curve out and play removal. (I've been playing 20 creatures 19 burn spells 21 lands in any Constructed format where it's viable since 2001.)
Marshall complains about getting tired of Limited formats, but I could have been happy to spend six months to a year only playing the same set without getting tired of it, as long as I'm at least breaking even on gems. (I spent a year on MTGO going infinite in original Kamigawa block drafts by doing nothing but drafting U/W regardless of what cards I saw - it was literally the only color combination I knew how to draft and when I tried to draft anything else I always got pulled into UW anyway so eventually I completely gave up. And as long as it was profitable, I was very happy to do it.)
I also wish I could play Sealed for ranking points - I really, really want that achievement for hitting Mythic in Limited, but my win rate in Premier Drafts at Platinum hasn't been good enough to get me out of it given the amount of games I've been willing to throw money away to play, and Quick Draft pick orders get weird as hell because the bots are bad at mimicking players (they pass removal a lot, etc.) and that throws me off, and Traditional Draft can't get me ranking points. (Should I be doing ranked Pick Two drafts because they're cheaper?)
The other thing is that I've been having financial worries recently, so although I'm sitting on five draft tokens and about 20,000 gems, I absolutely can't afford to break out the credit card for Magic for a while; once my gems are gone, they're going to stay gone. I've been staying out of the Arena Opens because even if I think I could win a box often enough to pay for the entry fee, I'd still have to spend 6000 gems and get nothing much for it way too many times to make it worth the risk.
So, um, enough ranting, but would I be amiss if I just sit this one out or maybe just do one ranked Limited event to qualify for rewards at the monthly reset? Or is it a good format that I should try out and maybe even get some of the achievements?
