Weekend Wrap Up! What was real and what was a trap?

What happened over the weekend and what do you think about it? Was it just hype? What if it's a real change? What do you think will happen going forward? Also feel free to use this space to discuss anything MTG Finance related.

Pulled it in a Believers in Love secret lair apparently. Has anyone seen anything else about this? Looks cool but definitely my least favorite of the ones shown so far lol.

Tonight at 9 EST, some crazy prices from a big box in my opinion.

EDIT: this is actually just going to be a regular botmart queued drop.

Question Did the Hobbit Singles bottom out yet? Are you buying or selling atm?

I am currently holding about 60% of the set and plan to complete ut besides the golden smaug. I am holding for my love of tolkien. But I noticed I bought way to early on a lot of these cards and am wondering if they are still falling or if they reached the bottom yet? Mox amber foil for example is 500€ flat in germany rn… I bought in an 700€ after the spike with fear of missing out since I was obviously biased due to my loce for the book. 500€ feels cheap to me for such beautiful card. but yeah… let me know hoe you handle hobbit stuff right now. Especially interested in collector opinion of this set. But everyone is welcomed to discuss in here if it constructive.

Spec Brand

With Commander Mystery Booster orders next week I reckon there will be plenty of folks looking to build [[Itazura, Lingering Wick]]

[[Brand]] and [[Homeward Path]] are both bangers in a donate focused version of this deck.

Brand, specifically, only has 2 print runs, one being the list the other Urza's Saga.

I see this also having longer-term viability as well given the popularity of the donate theme in casual commander.

I'm in for 50 copies, let's see what happens...

Discussion Amazon delays Secret Lair bundle

Post image
35 Upvotes

Hey guys just checked and it looks like Amazon is once again having some issues fulfilling on time. Thankfully my RF CBBs didn’t move this time around still for the 26th but we’ll see at this point anyone else get the bundles moved too? They really want us to buy that damn secret lair bundle with the lairs together I guess lol.

Bought a collection with tons of sealed pre-release foils

• Upvotes

Should I leave these in the packaging? Just wondering if anybody cares about/there's value in them being sealed in particular? Most of these cards are anywhere from 2-50 dollars, nothing crazy

Question Has anyone tracked what happens to UW versions of cards reprinted in UB precons

Anecdotally, it feels like a UB reprint tanks the price of that specific version, while letting the other (mostly UW) versions retain their value.

As an example, the latest [[Black Market Connections]] from MSC is about 10 EUR on Cardmarket while the LCC version is about 19 EUR.

The same is technically true for [[Flawless Maneouver]] - latest from FRC is 7 EUR while other versions with the exact same art are listed at 13 EUR. But I can't imagine anyone buying those.

What I can't get just by looking at Cardmarket is whether the UW versions still move at the higher price point. I am fairly certain people aren't buying Maneouvers from other sets at double the price, but are people buying Connections at almost double the price just to avoid the Marvel art?

A more general question - do your older versions still sell at "legacy" prices or do you have to undercut the current cheapest version to get it to sell? Does that differ when it comes to UB vs UW?

What is your target / floor for buying play booster boxes? (specifically Reality Fracture but also generally)

So I have been LOVING Reality Fracture and want to get a box or two to squirrel away for future drafts. What would be a price you think is the lowest the boxes will go?

Additionally, how you determine floor for other sets? Seeing the Lorwyn Eclipsed for $109 post got me thinking that if I want one of those, maybe that's the lowest I'll see it?

Are Magic cards collectible anymore?

Serious question. Every Commander table is super friendly to proxies, and competitive Magic is slowly dying. Why would anyone pay a premium for what they can print themselves?

into the flood maw promo

Post image

Since learning about the existence of this promo the availability and price seems to fluctuate a decent bit.

I don’t know how plentiful the stock is and if they are trickling into the states, or ultimately how scarce they are.

Basically on the fence between getting them now or waiting for a convention.

Also the art is sick. Any insight is appreciated

Discussion When is it worth it to get cross platform tracking?

I just started selling this year and have $12k in sales with a current inventory of $5k. I've been wondering when you would say it is worth it to get something that can track and post cards cross platform. So far I hit level 4 tcg player then switched over to Manapool and have only been selling there. I know it lets you access a bigger audience, but how did you decide when it was worth paying for one of these services, and which one did you choose?

Special guest discount?

Hi everyone, I don't really pay much attention to the prices of different treatments of cards normally so I was hoping you could explain this to me, I pulled a [[Eye of Ugin]] from a reality fracture pack last night and was surprised that it was significantly cheaper than its other printings despite in my opinion having better art and there not being many due to being in such a limited slot as special guest in a set. Thanks to anyone able to explain it!

Discussion I’m sure this question has been asked in here before, but I’m relatively new

I have a collection valued around 13k in ManaBox. I’ve been playing for around 10 years so I’ve had a lot of cards from back around that time that have shot up in value from commander (and MTG in general) exploding in popularity alongside the universes beyond implementation. (Cut to me angrily opening a smothering tithe as my P1P1 rare in every single ravnica draft)

In theory my collection and all of our collections will continue to rise in value as the game continues to grow and new IP’s get implemented into universes beyond that continue to bring in new players (waiting on you fromsoftware)

But thee is one thing that has had me considering selling my collection at some point in the next couple years, and brings me to the question I wrote this post for.

Do any of you think the rollout of a digital commander client would decimate the value of physical cards? Not completely, but heavily. It’s all but confirmed (maybe even actually confirmed?) that they’re working on either a separate commander client, or working on implementing 4 player commander into arena itself. This obviously is a matter of when, not if, this happens. And it would be something that would cause a mass selling off of physical decks/collections as people move on to being able to play commander digitally.

I was curious what the opinions of the mtgfinance sub are on this, because the day this actually happens is probably closer than we thing

Currently Spiking The Theorist, Jace Beleren Spiking

[[The Theorist, Jace Beleren]] is currently spiking with supply drying up. It’s seeing play in Standard control and superfriends decks, and it’s also in 23k EDH decks on EDHRec.

The low point I saw online was around $30-32, it jumped to ~$53 earlier today, and now there aren’t many copies left under the $60-70 range. If you can find any cheap copies, now would be the time to pick them up and dump them!

Snuck up on us but most of the lair this drop sold out

I see only non-foil kpop, marvel, and the non RG Labrynth lairs as available now. I think this is the first time the queue emptied and most things sold out in the same day anyways

Currently Spiking Selvala CMM Foil Squeeze?

Post image

Market is around 27, but lowest listing on TCG is 67. Looking very strange. 1 is listed on card kingdom for $40. This isn't for the raised foil version.
Any idea what's causing the spike?

How to properly share a tool/website which makes me some form of profit with the community? (I will NOT share it here. I asking this because I think it's mtgfinance related)

Hello favorite sub!

I'll go straight to the point.

I have recently created a website. I have received generally positive feedbacks and some people are using it, so I'd love to share it.

The "problem" is that this website helps to find cards at low prices, and if you click on a card's link, you'll be redirected to Cardtrader with my referral. Thus, I don't want to share it here on in the main sub, not to break any rule.

But this leaves the question: what is the best way to go to advertise a website of this kind to the community?

Article Best (Hopefully Cheap) Pickups from 40k post-reprint run [Article]

(direct link to the article if you want the full list)

As you may have heard from IGN, the beloved Warhammer 40k precon decks are receiving a new print run soon. Considering these decks have gotten ridiculously expensive recently, as high as $300 for a sealed precon, the community seems to be breathing a collective sigh of relief. Hopefully you weren't sitting on a stash of sealed precons, looks like you'll be waiting awhile for those to appreciate again.

I wrote an article about some cards that I hope to see fall to a reasonable price range once the print run has come through. What are you hoping to see come down?

Discussion SL "Pre-Orders" Create low-risk specs

It was already kind of weird that the Zeta packs were expected so far out that they hit pre-order status, but I chalked that up to the unusualness of selling packs.

Now we have an entire superdrop hit with pre-order status, but this is not going to be healthy for what it offers to scalpers.

If you're not being charged up-front, you can now speculate which drops will be bangers, and if basically nothing sells out/not looking like a good flip, you can just cancel your pre-order.

Article Lorwyn Eclipsed Booster Boxes Are 33.8% Cheaper Than 30 Booster Packs at MSRP. Does That Mean They're Worth Opening?

  • Lorwyn Eclipsed play booster boxes are around $109 on Amazon and $115 on TCGPlayer right now. Buying 30 booster packs at MSRP is around $165.

  • Average card value: $81.83 in counted cards, or $57.28 if you realize 70% of their quoted prices. We omit cards under $1 from the EV total.

  • Feel free to use the in-guide EV calculator to run your own samples.

  • Serialized Bitterbloom Bearer and Japan Showcase cards appear only in Collector Boosters, so they aren't part of this Play Booster estimate.

  • Your opening can be worth much more or less than the average; rare shock lands and premium treatments pull the average upward.

Discussion God Pack Simulator

tl;dr - Our site now simulates God Packs as if they existed for all supporting booster product - atmos.crackcaster.com/crack

I saw a post by Joel are Magic where he ran some number on the average and "bad" god packs and was inspired to set up a TEST God pack for all booster product that can support it.

While we won't know the exact collation until Nauctis (and it will probably change every set), I used the existing print sheet probabilities for collation and used all rares and mythics from all booster fun sheets including the bonus sheets if the set had them. The results look good to me, but let me know if you see something suspect.

I really appreciated the support and feedback from the launch I posted on here a few weeks ago and have been making some constant improvements: DARKMODE (early winner for best feedback), (mostly) accurate foil treatments, option to remove "lottery" cards from EV.

More feedback = more improvements; but I'm also interested if you have completely new feature ideas, my current plan is (in order) - inventory management & tracking, deck builder, draft sim, multiplayer draft sim, cube sim.
