Discussion It's amazing how easily this brawl goes from "This is fun" to "Oh, they bought a bundle"
Always a good reminder that the purpose of pre release brawl never has been and never will be fun, it's all about tricking the last few idiots into buying into a bundle so they can get a rush winning games against people stuck with inferior decks.
Everyone whines about priest this and warlock while the real division here is between the haves and the have nots. Blizzard wants you fighting a class war instead of a class war.

Deck I hit wild legend with this super greedy seedlock
It was pretty fun, except when facing ice blocks, dirty rats, demon hunters, dying on turn 2 to pirates or paladin robots, dying to druids pulling mana out of their butts, dying to shamans doing weird things, to thief priest stealing the quest, etc.
Miracle Seedlock

Tavern Brawl 6-0 Wins in Tavern Brawl w/ (Almost) All Loan Cards - Thoughts & Decklist
Went 6-0 using (almost) all free cards in the tavern brawl.
My only legendary here is Kith'ix (which I opened as my guaranteed legendary in my first 10 packs) It honestly won me a few matches in the mirror where boards were even (selected +6/+6 option, this importantly puts on your minions in hand/deck too which I didn't realize how good that is at first 😂 ).
Class is obviously warlock, best hero power in the game for the slower limited format. So much life gain, so feel free to smash that life tap button - don't even bother rolling Priest.
Elder word and shadow package works great with the C'thun abilities. Blasphemy is an incredibly strong board clear for a very minion focused format and same goes for Titan Thrasher.
The cards that include the word keyword Assemble are your friend (although there is only 4). If you are lucky enough to assemble a minion that can continue to generate value (E.G. whenever you play a minion: draw a card/summon a felbeast/discover a demon) you can just snowball the match especially if your opponent cannot remove it immediately, you basically win the game from there.
Curious to hear what everyone else has been trying and is working for them?

Discussion Achieved Legend with Dark Gift Warlock
In warrior/shaman matchups, mulligan for coils/toils, shadow rounds. Burn mage was not very common, but definitely was the worst matchup. Play greedy against warlock and Priest. Combo Cursed Chains and Dissolving Ooze on large taunts. Or give your Wallow reborn, eat with Ooze and give the resummoned wallow its stats and hit face again. I added Eldritch Tentacles to counter divine shields and mid sized opponent boards.
*NOTE*: Wallow does NOT get dark gifts added when he is in the over-drawn state.

Fluff Strange we're getting a 12th class when they can't balance the game better than having 3 classes make up 50% of the current meta.
Pretty grim for variety, at least new expansion may mix things up and give more variety but not sure adding a 12th class is really going to do much when they can't even balance what they've got.

Competitive I feel like assemble is just a terrible mechanic.
It is too random. I have made combos that allow me to infinitely clear their board for 4 mana and had the same against me. Some are just worse than the original minion. I say all this as an evolve player who thrives on randomness. They need to figure it out, especially if the minion pool expands.

Discussion I like the Journal.
Saw a few posts this morning already gaining traction hating on it, which bummed me out. I think it’s completely harmless and because I know no WoW lore + like flavor text, I find it interesting. I like that it’s voice acted, too.
As for working towards a “reward” (grinding through the entire thing in a day and change) and being disappointed with the “prize” (a pack), that feels like it’s missing the point imo.
This isn’t an event quest to grind, it’s designed to be something passively being advanced while you’re interacting with the new expansion / cards over an extended period. It’s so unobtrusive and has such little impact on existing gameplay that I don’t get why it’d bother anyone so much just by existing alongside it. It’s more like “flavor text with a pack as a bonus”, not a “gauntlet with the only reward for your effort being a pack”. It wasn’t really advertised as the latter.
Just wanted to see if I was alone in this feeling. Of course none of us can really speak for the MILLIONS of HS players that do NOT use Reddit whatsoever, and whether or not it’s resonating with them. “My one college friend who plays Hearthstone doesn’t use Reddit and he thinks it’s lame” isn’t a big enough sample size lol. Anecdotally it’s unpopular here, at least.
This also isn’t to say that the feature can’t be iterated upon / made more robust / improved in different ways. This is its first time being in the game and it will surely be adjusted based on feedback + behind the scenes engagement numbers (what they really care about, not Reddit).
I don’t personally find it to be that lacking, but again more can always be added to it, and they’re probably inclined to; they invested resources into making a whole new UI for a feature that doesn’t directly generate money for Blizzard, which feels unheard of nowadays. Scrapping it entirely would make it a complete waste.
TLDR: I like the Journal and I hope they continue with it + stuff like it. The way I see it only adds to my existing Hearthstone experience (its implementation has removed nothing that was already existing in the game prior to the update; it isn’t intended to be a 1:1 replacement for solo adventures by any means, nor does it claim to be. Adventures have been dead for many years now, and they’ve shown no signs of wanting to directly replace them). And the “reward” isn’t intended to be an impressive “grand prize”, it’s a freebie to go with the story.
Thank you for coming to my TED talk.

Discussion I genuinely love the new UI
I know our favourite pastime on this subreddit is complaining, but we gotta hand it to the team: this new UI fucking SLAPS. There's still room for improvement (small fonts?) but I really think they achieved a good balance here. It looks sleek, modern, streamlined, no billion buttons on the left and right, I find it really easy to check what I want on Journal.
I've been jaded with HS for a very long time and (correctly) dreaded every new bloat and change, but this feels like a small correct step for Hearthstone as a product IMO. Am I the only one?

Discussion Anyone been having luck with packs?
F2P, had three tavern brawls, two of which went 6-1, got the rogue legendary that draws an old god, the warlock leggo that reduces minion costs and the prison legendary from the last expansion. Not too shabby

Discussion So Arena is cooked now?
The new Warlock cards seem unbeatable now. Also: even if we don't have enough stats now, you can see that offering rates were, again, adjusted to make us suffer. The OP warlock cards are in every build. meanwhile all other classes that have to rely on excavating, have to cope that they might get a 2 mana common kobold but they rigged the offering rate to like 1%. OMFG so annoying, it's probably only gotta take a week until blizzard understands that 60% WL win rate might not be fun.

Discussion Disappointing Pre-Release Tavern Brawl
Tavern Brawl is, by far, my favourite event in the Hearthstone calendar. I save for it each season, and then I *usually* burn ALL my gold playing it. Winning, losing, learning, and really enjoying the new cards as I acquire them.
This time around I have found I stopped wanting to play it after about 10 runs. There are several very big problems with the current brawl, that effectively undermine its integrity as an event.
First up:
- Please don't give us all the new cards below epic level at the start!
What you say?! A player asking not to be given everything?! One of the absolute best bits about the brawl is opening new cards after a brawl run, and getting new stuff you can use! It's exciting and gives you this clear loop where you finish a run, open your new packs, and suddenly have more cards that you can integrate into a deck on the next run and experiment with. This is literally what makes the brawl brilliant! However, this time around this loop has been basically turned off for reasons that baffle me.
The result of this is that the big payoff after each run: opening your new cards, is frequently a complete *zero return* on playable new cards. If you did a three win run say, and have two new packs to open, you frequently just get 4 commons and a rare from each pack. In my ten runs, and from the packs I have gotten before the event, I got 2 unplayable legendaries, and 3 very random epics. Those are literally the only new things I'm bringing into the brawl when I run it, and most of the above were in my pre-event packs. In the packs I have earned from the brawl itself I have got 2 epics and 1 new legendary (the priest one lol which I played and realised is utterly unplayable in this format). That's it.
Now I appreciate this is probably unlucky but it's not really the point. If new cards are all provided within in the brawl itself, anything you open that isn't a legendary or an epic is a big fat dud. The last 10 packs I have opened had exactly 1 new card for me to use, a random crap epic neutral that i don't want to play anyway.
And this leads directly into the second problem:
- The card pool is really too small. There are effectively only 6 class cards for each class, so the classes are merged. Within those class pools there are the usual good versus bad cards. And some completely unplayable ones (When I searched for "nature" to see what other nature spells "Efflorescence" could pull for me, I was, let's just say, underwhelmed), like the neutral that requires you to have C'thun in your deck.
The wider issue that it becomes clear what's good and what is not very very quickly when there are only really 4 card pools. Within those pools there really isn't much choice at all. There are obviously good cards and obviously bad ones and a few maybes, and not much room for any real creativity or experimentation. The games just become a bit dull after you've played against the same cards over and over for a few games.
---
So that's it really. I just wanted to say my piece. I appreciate Pre-Release Brawls can be a pain to balance, and I appreciate there have been a few misteps in the past, with the monkey last time for example, but overall, they got the big things right. Balance can be hot fixed. A brawl that is sort of boring by design... well I wonder why even bother with it? Anyway, please next time allow us to open new things we don't have from the packs again. It really is the best bit.
