What is this? What is this white powder on new pickups?

Just got a set of SD black winters new from sweetwater, but they came with this white powder on a few poles on each pickup. I assumed it was corrosion or something, so I called for an exchange, and the second pair showed up with the exact same thing. Is this normal? Ive never seen it before.

Thanks.

Just got a new guitar, but the second of this model.

I got the first one for $400CAD in 2009 and now it's doubled! Crazy thinking how much time has passed.

Look at this! From Metallica to Mayer and back again — my current three-guitar family

Started playing at 16 on a classical guitar, trying to learn Metallica songs. My first electric was a Japanese Jackson DXMG with passive EMGs. Around 18–19, I swapped those for a pair of EMG 81s. An Epiphone Les Paul Custom joined along the way, too.
Around 2014, I sold the Les Paul and picked up a used white American Strat with a maple fretboard. I was getting into Clapton and John Mayer, and my guitar choices were clearly following my listening habits.
As the Mayer rabbit hole got deeper, the white maple-board Strat became a white rosewood-board Strat, and eventually the Charcoal Frost American Standard pictured here. The resemblance to Mayer’s Charcoal Frost signature Strat definitely influenced that last choice.
About four years ago, I bought an Epiphone ’59 Les Paul in Lemon Burst from Andertons. Sold the Jackson about two years ago, and for a while that chapter seemed to be over.
Then this year I replaced the ’59 with a Greeny. Somehow, the guitar I expected to scratch the classic-rock itch got me playing Metallica again. A month ago, that led to the LTD KH-602 Purple Sparkle.
So this is the family now: the Strat, Greeny, and the KH-602. Feels like a pretty balanced setup, and teenage me would be very happy to see that purple LTD.
Anyone else’s guitar collection basically a timeline of their music taste?

Help So, do y'all wipe your strings up and down with a piece of fiber cloth after every playing session?

I heard it could make your strings last about a month more if you do that and my OCD brain can't let that fact slide. My strings do look clean af but near the pickups they are kinda darkening and I don't think its finger gunk or anything maybe its the lighting.

Why are strings so expensive

Help Midi controller for injured guitarist NSFW

Hi r/guitars,

I dislocated my middle finger playing football this week 😭 prognosis is that a full recovery is likely, but will require at least 12 weeks of intensive rehab.

I want to keep up my momentum with music production, but my normal workflow uses guitar a lot e.g. figuring out melody/harmonies, or to record guide tracks that will be played by other instruments later etc.

I've dabbled in midi keyboards in the past, but it's never really "stuck"; and while I can make use of the piano-roll, it's never comes as naturally to me compared to the fretboard.

So, does anyone have any suggestions for Midi controllers might work for me? I'd also be interested VSTs or other programmes that could help? If it's relevant, I use Ableton Live, and my music is somewhere in the Trip-hop wheelhouse.

Decided to switch out the black pickguard for a white one just for a little seasonal change. Probably change it back to black once it gets warmer out 😅 but I'm definitely living the funky 60s ish vibe it has now

This is a thing of beauty, the finish is a lot darker than it looked on the website and I am in love!

Overall I am very happy with it and it's a lot of fun to play on the compound radius fretboard. Though the tuners could be easier to turn imo.

Sounds like a Tele, but a bit on the thinner side. The cavities are properly shielded and I was pleasantly surprised to find a treble bleed installed right from the factory.

Setup wise, I threw my go-to 10-52 strings on and went through the usual steps. The nutslot for the g string is a bit high, but workable. The high e had a few buzzing frets between 2 and 6, but a bit more neck relief took them right out. Didn't have to do a thing to the intonation, it was spot on right away.

The only real issues are slight fret sprout (not skin-cutting, but definitely noticeable) and one of the saddle height adjustment screws being stripped, despite having used the allen key that came with it.

Black 1999 Fender MIM Deluxe “Fat Strat”
Mods; EMG 81 X w/ single volume, speed knob, DIY medium tortoise pickguard, Fender Gotoh relic nickel machine heads, parts bin vintage nickel string tree (second tree removed), re-fret with vintage spec medium frets, Fender relic nickel strap buttons.
Not shown; brass trem, blocked, “F” neck plate.
Remaining work; new nut (kinda flubbed this one), vintage parts bin jack plate.

Strung with 11-54 in D Standard. Really fun project guitars due to the HSH routing. Bought for $400 CAD in 2023, currently has around $250 in parts. Amazing what $650 can get you if you put in the time and the work.

Help Trying to sell my guitar, what should I be asking for?

Post image

The guitar I’m trying to sell is an Epiphone hummingbird deluxe version. Autumn burst, gold etched humming bird pick guard EC. Absolutely beautiful. I paid $1299 retail for the purple velvet case and the guitar. It’s in perfect condition, no dents or scratches at all. Same for the case.

What amount should I be asking for? I don’t want to go to some place to only get 40% of the used value.

Look at this! If you were considering a Jaguar style guitar, or another guitar "just cuz", the White Sage color Guild Surfliner is discounted to $299 until supplies run out at Sweetwater.

Help Gibson ES-335 60s vs Eastman T59/V – Which would you pick ?

Hi everyone!

I’m torn between a Gibson ES-335 ‘60s and an Eastman T59/V. Would love to hear from anyone who’s played both.

How do they compare in terms of tone, playability, neck profile and overall build quality? Is the Gibson worth the extra money ?

Mostly playing Britpop/Oasis-style rock with lots of open chords.

Thanks!

Help Cort CR250 vs Valeton GP-200 — Which Would You Buy If You Could Only Choose One?

Post image
4 Upvotes

Hey everyone!
I’m struggling to decide between two purchases, and I’d appreciate some honest advice.
**Option 1: Cort CR250 ($385)**
I’ve been dreaming of owning a Les Paul-style guitar for a while. My favorite guitarists are Slash and Gary Moore, and I really want that classic Les Paul look and feel. I currently own a PRS SE CE 24 and a Spark 2 amp, so this would be my first proper Les Paul-style guitar.
**Option 2: Valeton GP-200 ($370)**
A multi-effects processor that would give me more flexibility with tones, effects, and potentially improve my recording setup. I play classic rock, blues, Guns N’ Roses, Gary Moore, and I currently use my Spark 2 for my tones, so the GP-200 would expand my options.
**My situation:**
I can afford only ONE of these right now.
I live in Libya, so buying music gear isn’t as straightforward as it is in the US.
I’m also considering waiting until Black Friday to see if the GP-200 gets a better deal on Amazon.
Honestly, I’m more emotionally drawn to the Cort because I’ve wanted a Les Paul for so long.
**My questions:**
Is the Cort CR250 a worthwhile addition if I already own a PRS SE CE 24?
Would the GP-200 make a more noticeable difference to my sound and playing experience than a second guitar?
If you were in my position, which would you buy first, and why?

Help Does anyone know if this kind of epiphone Flying V is any good?

Post image

I’ve been wanting a Flying V for a while now, and I was thinking of selling one of my old guitars to get an epiphone V. The specs seem good on this, but i’m a little dubious about the price. Does anyone have experience with these, or reasons why they are so much cheaper than the Gibson counterparts? (Maybe where they are made?) Any suggestions or advise would be greatly appreciated, thankyou.

Help Is shadow SH 669 a good pickup? should i replace it?

I bought a second hand Squier Strat SE special, and the previous owner replaced the original bridge pickup with a shadow SH 669B (og neck and middle pickups still there)... is it good? is it worth replacing all pickups for a fat 60's or a texas special set? I'm worried about losing tonal variety btw, between fat 60's and texas special, what should i choose? ps: I want this guitar to sound like frusciante-style tone and bluesy

Help How to choose first guitar and why it won't be Squire/Pacifica

I had no idea what to put into title.. Anyway, I would love to buy myself a electric guitar, after owning acoustic and I kinda understand that everyone is suggesting for 'first guitar' to get something like squire or pacifica, but at those, I already know that I'll want something else very soon.

I get that for someone, who doesn't know, if they will be playing, that might be a good cheap choice, but I know that I want to play on guitar and those feels just like waste of money (I am aware that expensive guitar won't make me any better tho).

I am not exactly sure, for what I am looking for, other than playing rock/metal on it, but there is probably some general common sense of what to avoid and what's generally good pick overall. I am not planning to buy several guitars just for sake of having them as I don't even have space for multiple of them and I usually get too attached to one and neglect other (like my ukulele).

So, I am looking for something that could give me a like first experience of what to look for, if that makes any sense.. Like some specific ESP with pickups if i want X or Schecter with Y to find out if I like that type of sound to try out, something like that.

My budget for guitar is up to 2000$ so I am looking for guitar for a long-run not short-term replacement.

(I might edit this post later to make it more sensible)

I'll be happy for any suggestion as so far I am looking only based on design and I am very picky about that.'

Also, I prefer something more "modern" if you want, not generic looking-like Fender models, if possible,
