Player Discussion Dylan Harper is getting over-drafted.

• Upvotes

I want to first preface by saying I think Dylan Harper will be a great player and great fantasy player one day, but that will come 3 years from now. I don't understand why people are paying a top 70-80 pick for a guy who doesn't stand out in any category. He's a very good defender, but it doesn't result into high stock numbers. He doesn't generate a lot of steals. He's a mid playmaker. When his minutes and role increased in the playoffs he only averaged 2.7 assists. That's not good. He's below average in 3's. What am I actually getting with him? His strength is that he is really efficient for a guard. His 51% FG% is nice, but it's low volume. And he's a pretty good rebounder for a guard, but right now all of that is just very mid. I would like him much better if his priced in the 90's, but a couple big playoff games and now his price is inflated. I think managers are going to be disappointed.

Discussion Hey Presti: Run Free Real-Time Auction Drafts (personal project)

• Upvotes

Hey folks. Long-time lurker and occasional commenter here - wanted to share a project I’ve been working on for the past few months.

TLDR: heypresti.com - Real time auction drafts that are configurable for how you like to run stuff. It’s free, easy to set up, no spam/tracking, no betting BS and works well for both in-person and remote. Currently in beta. Longer term plan is open source/self host plus make hosted drafts $5 a pop to keep the lights on.

If you like a yarn.... Hey Presti (heypresti.com) is my take on the best way to run a real time auction draft. My main squeeze fantasy league has been doing auctions for years and we love it. We have a split in-person and remote draft night and last year I had to be remote for the first time and realised that it really kinda sucked. I also know that our commissioner spends most of his focus on dealing with his (honestly pretty amazing) auction spreadsheet and trying to keep up with remote bids over WhatsApp/video chat etc.

I assumed that what I wanted would already exist and it kinda does - but all the options felt expensive, spammy or didn’t have all the features I wanted. I run a small dev agency here in NZ and have been coding since the early 00’s so I figured why not just build something small and simple, just for our league... you can guess the rest. Got a bit obsessed, went down the rabbit hole, scope creep etc etc.

Key things I was aiming for:

  • Lightning fast, real-time bidding with reliable, durable auction state.
  • Easy and painless to set up - only the commissioner needs an account, everyone else just gets an invite code. No tracking, spam or anything resembling a business model.
  • Easy on the eye, easy to use on phone, laptop, or the projector view. Ideally no instructions required.
  • Configurable for different formats: sequential or nomination (or switch between them mid-draft), keepers, optional countdown timers, mid-draft trades.
  • Fair play built in: anti-snipe auto extending timers, budget checks so everyone can afford a full roster, and the commissioner can’t hammer their own leading bids.

If you are into code etc, my main idea was that a Cloudflare Durable Object would be a perfect draft room. DOs process one action at a time, so bids can’t collide, and the auction logic is event sourced, so every bid/hammer etc is recorded in an append-only log that can’t be rewritten. Events run over websockets to keep every screen synced (close to) instantly.

Is this vibe-coded slop? Depends how you view it. I certainly used AI to speed things up but I’ve been pretty intimately involved throughout and this is a long way from my first app. AI is definitely what made me more ambitious to make a more general solution though!

I was hoping to get this out sooner but work/life got in the way. Hopefully better later than never! If you're game, I’d love it if you gave it a try. From in the app, click your avatar top right and click ‘Send Feedback’ to let me know what you think!

Discussion Best Draft Slot in Fantasy Basketball 2026?

As the season begins and drafts are beginning to heat up, what do you guys think is the best place to draft?

I personally am in a 14 man league (points), so what is the best option here(if any?)

Do you guys notice different tiers, or a certain overall pick after which players drop off?

Player Discussion Can we try to be good at assist and TO at the same time in 9-CAT?

Did some quick analysis to see assist to turnover ratios (projected stats), even tho its not one of the standard 9-cat. Just trying to see if we can have a build that does not punt AST or TO, who are the best fits.

Player AST/game TO/game AST/TO Thoughts
Haliburton 9.3 1.9 5.02 Amazing fit
Tre Jones 5.6 1.3 4.19 Cheap waiver option
Pritchard 4.8 1.4 3.50 Good mid-tier option
Jokić 10.2 3.3 3.07 Obviously high cost
Dyson 5.1 1.7 2.96 Underrated source of assist?
Cade 9.6 3.9 2.48 Probably should have punt TO already
Trae 10.2 4.4 2.30 Yikes, just punt TO
Luka 8.8 4.4 2.22 Yeah, same as Trae
Giannis 6.2 3.2 1.94 Maybe his ast is projected low
Durant 4.3 2.9 1.48 Makes sense he's not much of a facilitator
Ant 3.7 3.0 1.22 This is a bit surprising to me

Player Discussion Giannis in 9CAT: punt or keep 3s?

Is drafting Giannis and not punting threes viable? I feel like every mock I’ve done where I try to keep threes I end up being average in like five categories whereas when I punt threes I’m a lot more solid and in rebounds, blocks, steals and assists. Any drafting recommendations / player recommendations?

Discussion What part of your weekly fantasy prep still feels like an annoying chore or second job?

Draft season is wrapping up and I'm looking at my roster trying to figure out how to approach week 1. Even with all the cool websites out there for managing my team, there are still some things that feel unnecessarily tedious. For fantasy managers in competitive 9-cat or points leagues (other leagues okay too): what is the most annoying part of your weekly routine as a fantasy bball manager that the current tools you use don't make easy? What part of the routine is the biggest time waster that you also wish you had a simple solution to?

Player Discussion Punt or stay balanced? I simulated 1,000 drafts and seasons across all 9 punt builds to find out

I've heard a lot about punting but have never had the courage to do it. And wonder if its actually a good strategy. I used the simulation engine from ENFUEGO to run a Monte Carlo simulation for 1,000 12-team 9-cat H2H snake drafts and full 20-week seasons (plus 6-team playoffs) for 11 different punt strategies. To keep it fair, the test team rotated evenly through all 12 draft slots against 11 normal ADP/value drafters, took best player available in Round 1, and then committed to its build from Round 2 onward.

Strategy Weekly Matchup Win % Playoff % #1 Seed % Championship %
Punt AST 52.7% 58.1% 13.2% 12.3%
Punt REB 50.8% 54.1% 9.0% 11.9%
Punt FG% 50.7% 53.8% 9.4% 11.0%
Punt FT% 51.4% 55.1% 9.0% 10.6%
Punt BLK 50.8% 51.6% 9.2% 9.3%
Balanced (Category Fit, No Punt) 50.5% 53.1% 9.4% 9.2%
Pure ADP / Best Player Available 49.6% 49.0% 8.3% 8.5%
Punt STL 50.3% 50.3% 8.6% 8.4%
Punt PTS 50.7% 52.8% 8.5% 7.7%
Punt 3PM 46.4% 38.9% 5.2% 6.7%
Punt TO 45.3% 33.8% 3.7% 4.1%

A few of these lined up with what I expected, and a couple completely surprised me (especially Punt AST on top).

What do you guys make of these numbers? Why do you think Punt TO and Punt 3PM tanked so hard here compared to Punt AST or Punt REB?

Player Discussion I have Giannis ranked 22. Hear me out

As we all know, he’s elite when he plays: 7th in healthy-fppg. That’s roughly where ADP has him. Problem is, I model him to play 74% of weeks.

A typical top-50 player plays 85% of weeks per season. Last season Giannis played 56%: an adductor strain, two right calf strains, and a knee bone bruise for the final 15 games.

Stars who come off an injury-riddled season like that (N=15) average 69% in the following season. Roughly half of the 15 bounced back (85%+), the other half averaged 40%.

Player Season Injury Weeks played the following season
Joakim Noah '11 Torn thumb ligament, surgery 100%
John Wall '13 Knee stress injury, no surgery 100%
Dwight Howard '15 Knee swelling, no surgery 100%
Carmelo Anthony '15 Knee surgery 96%
Marc Gasol '16 Broken foot, surgery 96%
Paolo Banchero '25 Torn oblique 92%
Julius Randle '24 Dislocated shoulder, surgery 88%
Zion Williamson '25 Hamstring strain 84%
Chris Bosh '15 Blood clots in lung 64%
Rajon Rondo '13 Torn ACL 52%
DeMarcus Cousins '18 Torn Achilles 50%
John Wall '18 Knee surgery 42%
Joel Embiid '24 Torn meniscus 40%
LaMelo Ball '23 Broken ankle, surgery 32%
Kristaps Porziņģis '18 Torn ACL 0%
Average 69%

My rankings are very sensitive to availability. Moving his availability up 2% moves him from 22 to 14th.

But availability risk is especially brutal because of the playoffs. A week missed here or there in the regular season is ok; miss a playoff week and you risk your entire season. This is how 1st seeds get derailed!

If you think some of the injuries were fake for negotiating leverage (I don’t, but could be convinced), then bump him higher. But still not high enough to justify 1st round. Giannis actually seemed eager to play the last 15 games of the season that he missed, but the front office benched him—“injury management” (yes, but also tanking). Adding those games back in, the model ranks him 13th. Which is still after ADP.

The other big factor is minutes. His minutes are on the decline: 35, then 34, then 30 over the last three seasons. I project 28. So lower fppg when he is healthy is expected.

Regarding the scenery change to Miami: stars who change teams usually take a hit. Since 1996, they’ve scored 2 fewer fppg vs stars who stayed put (using Sleeper standard scoring settings, where elite fppg is ~25).

Stars who joined another top-30 star lose 3 fppg (Bam was 16th in fppg last season). Stars who move to a team with no incumbent star, lose less than 1. Take the Heatles: LeBron -4 fppg, Bosh -5, and Wade -1 from their prior seasons (the incumbent star usually doesn't change).

To conclude this essay, let other managers gamble on his availability and take equivalent value elsewhere. At 7th, that price assumes he’s in the top half of injury bounce backs and the other half isn't priced in.

Thanks to u/Matt_D_Z and u/SlightlyGayForReus for having me look into it.

Player Discussion Made a 9-cat draft sheet: Top 250 with positional tabs and last season's stats

Put together a spreadsheet for my draft and figured I'd share.

[LINK]

Feel free to download or create a copy!

What's in it:

- Top 250 in Dan Titus' (Yahoo) 9-cat order, color-coded by position

- Separate PG / SG / SF / PF / C tabs (multi-position guys show up on every tab they qualify for)

- 2025-26 per-game stats for each player: PTS, REB, AST, STL, BLK, 3PM, FG%, FT%, TO, plus GP and minutes

- Heatmap on the 9 cats so you can spot category strengths and punt fits quickly

- Flags for rookies, guys who missed last season, and small samples

Rankings are Dan Titus' (Yahoo), and the stats are from Basketball-Reference. The order is from his late-September update, so double-check any late risers.

Good luck in your drafts!

It’s actually impressive how bad it is. Did my first draft on yahoo this season, then went to see my team and the desire to play significantly dropped down and I really like my team. Horrendous stuff fellas.

Player Discussion Wild auction draft last night!!

Jovic/Jokic

Last night my league had their auction draft and the manager with the first selection nominated Nikola Jovic to be bid on first...

Clearly everyone was expecting Nikola Jokic there, as half of the managers didn't pay close attention & immediately started bidding quickly, driving his price up. It ultimately seemed like the managers caught on later as the bidding stopped short of what past Jokic bids went for, but not before it reached $80 (out of the $200 you get to buy players).

So now we have a manager in our league with Nikola Jovic at $80!!! While "unfair" in some opinions, it's within the rules and it worked!

What do you think - was this dirty af, or diabolically clever?!

Player Discussion Let's Talk About Handcuffs

It's pretty widely predicted that guys like AD and Embiid will miss significant time this season (because they always do). Who is stepping into the starting lineup on those teams? And how much does that boost the value of those guys? A few names I have in mind are Adem Bona (Embiid), Ayton or maybe Coulibaly? (AD), CMB/Ja'Kobe Walter (Kawhi), Ajay Mitchell (JDub), DeRozan (Nuggets whole team), and Bobby Portis (Giannis).

Discussion What do people think about third round reversal for drafts?

I got the 5th pick this year and put real prep into a punt-3PM build. The person with pick 1 was on holiday and missed the draft entirely, so I had a hopeful assumption that he wasn't going to be particularly good.

He was completely fine. Having Jokic gives him the most categories above average of any team in the league. He projects at about my level with zero effort.

In most leagues the first pick is a huge edge, like in my league if someone who was trying got the first pick its safe to assume he would easily be the favorite to win. It makes me wonder about third round reversal and whether that's actually a good way to counter it, or if it just screws more people over?

(For those who don't know, third round reversal is that round 3 runs the same direction as round 2, so the pick-1 owner gets a later pick in round 3 and the pick-10 owner gets an earlier one).

Would be keen to hear from people who have tried third round reversal, was it a flop or did it work well?

Discussion Issue in auto draft with pre ranking

Hi,

I have set up my pre ranking draft for my draft. But in the mock draft, even with my list actived, the auto pick selects a player that is later in my list even if the previous one is available. Usuaully around the 8th or 9th pick.

Example : I put Lendeborg before PJ Washington. And in the result, I see PJ selected instead of Lendeborg, who was also available.

Am I the only one?

PS : I have done my pre list because I won't be available at the scheduled draft of my league.

Player Discussion How we feeling on Jaren Jackson Jr?

Is it me or has the market cooled off on him? Seems like he's going in the mid 4th round. I think that's pretty good value for player that can give you elite blocks with good 3's and scoring. He's like the last shot blocking big that goes off the board in that range with Kessler and Clingan who go ahead of him.

I don't understand why Kessler has a more premium price when JJJ is more established. Is this just a Laker tax?

Player Discussion Fantasy name help!

I want something based on one or more of my players or the fact that I’m in Philly. I’m getting married this year, so I’m also thinking about incorporating fiancee or getting married. Anything funny/punny/girly is appreciated!

I have Cade Cunningham, Jamal Murray, Devin Booker, Jalen Duren, Demi Avdija, Cameron Boozer, Ryan Rollins, Jarrett Allen, Paul George, Jabari Smith, Jalen Suggs, Nic Claxton, Collin Gillespie

Ideas so far are: Getting Murray’d, The Bride-Cade, and Books & Booze (my two fave leisure activities lmao), Put A (Championship) Ring On It

Player Discussion [Cats] Kessler vs Gobert

How are people evaluating both of these players. Looking at projected stats, they have almost identical stats. However Kessler ADP is around 45 while Gobert is 62

Is the difference here mainly due to Luka and projecting Kessler to take a jump? Gobert is also healthier so that should benefit him. Looking at projections the only real difference is blocks, but is that worth almost 1.5 rounds of value in a draft?

FG% FT% Three PTS REB AST STL BLK TO
Kessler 66% 60% 0.5 12 11 2 0.5 2.2 2
Gobert 67% 60% 0 11.5 11 1.5 0.5 1.5 1.2

Guys like Duren/Clingan are also in the same area so feel free to discuss them as well.

Based on value, who would you rather have in a draft?
