Finally beat the game. This was my first play through and souls game in general. Died many times but thoroughly enjoyed the journey. Any recommendations on what to play next?

I'm playing DS3 for the first time after putting hundreds of hours into Elden Ring. I've been playing completely solo, no summons, and exploring everything blind.

Today I was at the Cathedral of the Deep and saw a summon sign next to the bonfire. I thought it was an NPC summon, so I said screw it and summoned them for the first time.

I spent the next 10 minutes following this dude around before I even realized it was a real player.

This absolute legend proceeded to give me a full guided of the entire Cathedral. Every shortcut, every secret path, every item. He waited while I looted everything and even dropped me a few items to help with some of the encounters.

I normally love exploring these games blind and figuring everything out myself, but man, that was genuinely one of the funniest gaming experiences I've had in a while.

I'm playing dark souls 3 with someone who played the game and wanted me to experience ds3 and we've been doing co op for a while since the beginning of the game. I was choosing dex/faith, they chose strength. The mercenary gets sellsword twinblade which is what I chose. I was getting bodied hard in the beginning. Mobbed by enemies and the other player was telling me to use my shield and Block more. I disagreed because I was noticing the damage I was getting from sellsword. They told me that I was playing terribly and rolling and getting hit by everything and that I needed to git gud. They also mentioned I wasn't exploring enough. So I decided to comb for items. I decided to level up my stats and invest in dex and level up my weapon. They did the same for the great sword. We did so also to stop invaders. Now however I'm melting bosses and killing enemies so fast that the other player isn't able to get attacks in or is having a chance to play because the great sword is slower than my weapon. They're now saying that I cheated myself out of the experience of dark souls 3 by looking up the best weapon. They called me a scrub that doesn't appreciate the art or intended way to play dark souls 3. I overleveled they said. I'm level 70+ at the catacombs currently before boreal valley and i killed the carthus worm and old king fire demon.

I want to know everyone's thoughts on this.

But good lord. I loved Elden ring and the dlc, which I played twice. I adore sekiro. Bloodborne rules.

I cannot get into the groove of DS3 and I have no idea why. I’m still stuck on the high wall of lothric. I haven’t even met a real boss. And I suck so much ass, I’m asphyxiating on undigested corn kernels.

I’m a pyromancer with the katana, shield and fireball.

I know enough from my experience with the aforementioned games that I’m the problem. I clearly haven’t figured it out yet. But unlike those, the dying just doesn’t feel fun(?). Like I’ll try to get to the tough part and have to redeal with all these little nuisances along the way that are easy but just take forever.

Maybe that’s the point and I just am not jibing with it yet. But if there are any obvious things someone who loves this style of game might miss with DS3 at first, I’d love guidance!

UPDATE: Thank you all so much so far!! I’m hitting the hay but very pumped to implement these strategies tomorrow. Also I’m clearly having more fun than I realized bc I can’t stop thinking about the game and am loving reading every post here!

I’ve completed the game in new game ++, but I’m still missing the trophies for gestures,pyromancies and miracles. I’ve completely lost track of what I might still be missing. Need some help 😭

played the game twice with strength, dex and faith (lightning) builds and if you disagree your wrong (joking).

this is my first soulsbourne game. i have progressed pretty well and just moved on from nameless king, into the DLC.

sister friede is unbearably frustrating. i summon gael for phase 2 but i really dont want to do that, it just wouldn’t feel as rewarding, but i really try and save as much energy for phase 3 as i possibly can. her combos are extremely hard to predict, let alone dodge without running out of stamina, or dodging too far back so you can’t punish her. and say you do get the chance to punish, she does that stupid back jump that is the most annoying thing ever.

tldr: do you guys have any useful advice for me?

I cannot take this place anymore oh my god everyone is so fast and my spells do like 50% damage. The furthest I got was the distant manor but I cannot deal with jail of death and suffering or spider people. I'm on PC please get me out of here.

I did a whole run with the great club and I heavily prefer it over any dex weapon and even most strength weapons. The requirements are low to use it, it is great for clearing out mobs unlike smaller weapons and very easily breaks shields, it staggers most bosses and is easy to land with due to range, its not super slow and it deals tons of damage. There may be some higher DPS weapons i dont know, but you can wield the club from start to finish no problem.

I'm trying to do covenant stuff but I keep getting summoned by the same person into the swamp place, I don't think I'm supposed to be there. Idk if this is bad but there were also 2 watchdogs and another faithful attacking him the most recent time (he died, get bent).

Is anyone online to help me with vertebra shackle?? Is so boring i am at least 15h trying to farm all the 30 but I only have 14 with some help online

I'm working my way through NG++ and have a ton of extra Estus and Undead Bone Shards. The Shrine Handmaid doesn't seem to want them, so what can I do with them?

So, for the past 2 days i have been trying to beat this pontiff man and failed miserably.

I didn't want to blame anything but it's too obvious to ignore. It's my skill and the fps of my laptop. I really enjoys playing this game but if i can't get going because this boss then I'm gonna loose it. If you guys willing to help, pls I'm going crazy.

I had been stuck at Midir for ages, and I had almost contemplated deleting the game but somehow we fucked the living shit out of it. So thank you so much for being there! This was really awesome!

I really want to use deep sorcery for my first playthrough, but it seems to suck. I currently have Deep Soul and Great Deep Soul, but the damage is really really bad. My int and fai are both 30, I read that I should use the izalith catalyst but I don't have that. I have been using the Clerics Candlestick but I just got the Archdeacons staff if that's better.

I just finished my first playthrough of DS3 with a Strength build, mainly using the FUGS and other heavy weapons. My favourite weapon ended up being Lorian’s Greatsword.

Now I’m thinking about my next build, but I’m not sure what to go for. I’m interested in a thrust/spear build using the Dragonslayer Swordspear, but I’d also like something fast with weapons like the Dancer’s Enchanted Swords.

What build would you recommend? I’m open to trying something different!
