I love Dark Souls. I've beaten the first one many times, the second one is my favorite. But I think the third one is by far my least favorite souls game, and I think part of that is because I can't get myself to play very far. I've only gotten slightly past Wolnir, which I know isn't that far but I couldn't play farther than that.
This isn't a rant either, Its a genuine issue for me.
I know mechanically, the third is superior to the first two, I'm not gonna act like the others were better. 3 had better and more fun weapons with more types and effects. It nailed that aspect, I just personally liked the first 2 better. But I think the tighter controls and faster combat actually make this one less enjoyable for me. The first two were clunky, and Dark Souls feels more like a game that embraces the clunk rather than being hindered by it.
The world isn't that engaging to me, I hate the way it looks. I know the lore reason for it, the universe is ending, and the game feels like it, and its just a bummer to explore. 1 and 2 felt better to me. 1 felt like a destroyed city, exploring it made you wonder how this place was before all this happened. 2 was an area at the start of falling apart. All the areas I was in were graveyards, swamps, a sick town. I don't wonder how it looked before this all happened because this is probably what it looked like.
The graphics are terrible, just flat out, I've played on both PC and PS4/5, and its abysmal to me. The screen is way too cluttered, there is way too much unnecessary detail that it makes my eye un-focus because of it. I never know where I'm supposed to look, everything is trying to pull my eyes away from what I need to look at. There doesn't need to be thirty gravestones in one little patch, there doesn't need to be unleveled cobblestone on the paths, it's just too much.
The art style and graphics clash, giving the game this unfocused look, like your eyes when you zone out, how everything blurs a bit. The entire game looks like that, its fuzzy and a pain.
1 and 2 handled its graphics much much better because it was simple. The textures were flat and when you looked at them closely you can see all the imperfections. But when you focused on the game, what your supposed to focus on, it all blended beautifully. You know what the area is supposed to be, it gave you all the information you needed and none of what you didn't.
I want to play this game, it's the only Dark Souls game I haven't beaten yet. But if I have to force myself to play it then its not worth playing. Is there anyone else who had a similar issue and found a way around it.

I'm playing dark souls 3 with someone who played the game and wanted me to experience ds3 and we've been doing co op for a while since the beginning of the game. I was choosing dex/faith, they chose strength. The mercenary gets sellsword twinblade which is what I chose. I was getting bodied hard in the beginning. Mobbed by enemies and the other player was telling me to use my shield and Block more. I disagreed because I was noticing the damage I was getting from sellsword. They told me that I was playing terribly and rolling and getting hit by everything and that I needed to git gud. They also mentioned I wasn't exploring enough. So I decided to comb for items. I decided to level up my stats and invest in dex and level up my weapon. They did the same for the great sword. We did so also to stop invaders. Now however I'm melting bosses and killing enemies so fast that the other player isn't able to get attacks in or is having a chance to play because the great sword is slower than my weapon. They're now saying that I cheated myself out of the experience of dark souls 3 by looking up the best weapon. They called me a scrub that doesn't appreciate the art or intended way to play dark souls 3. I overleveled they said. I'm level 70+ at the catacombs currently before boreal valley and i killed the carthus worm and old king fire demon.
I want to know everyone's thoughts on this.

But good lord. I loved Elden ring and the dlc, which I played twice. I adore sekiro. Bloodborne rules.
I cannot get into the groove of DS3 and I have no idea why. I’m still stuck on the high wall of lothric. I haven’t even met a real boss. And I suck so much ass, I’m asphyxiating on undigested corn kernels.
I’m a pyromancer with the katana, shield and fireball.
I know enough from my experience with the aforementioned games that I’m the problem. I clearly haven’t figured it out yet. But unlike those, the dying just doesn’t feel fun(?). Like I’ll try to get to the tough part and have to redeal with all these little nuisances along the way that are easy but just take forever.
Maybe that’s the point and I just am not jibing with it yet. But if there are any obvious things someone who loves this style of game might miss with DS3 at first, I’d love guidance!
UPDATE: Thank you all so much so far!! I’m hitting the hay but very pumped to implement these strategies tomorrow. Also I’m clearly having more fun than I realized bc I can’t stop thinking about the game and am loving reading every post here!

"Oh, but OP, they're in different locations, have different lore, different stories, accessed different ways, and blah blah blah blah...." Shut up. They're the exact same thing.
Both have something to do with time (AoA is in the past, TRC is in the future)
Both have a super powerful human boss (AoA has Artorias, TRC has Gael)
Both have an ancient dragon boss (AoA has Kalameet, TRC has Midir)
Both have a boss that feels unrelated (AoA has Sanctuary Guardian, TRC has Demon Princes)
Both have Abyss (AoA is origin of The Abyss, TRC has Abyss swamp and Abyss lore)
Both are set in a long-lost city (AoA has Oolacile, TRC has TRC)
Both have a princess in it (AoA has Dusk, TRC has Fillianore)
Both end in the hardest boss of the game (AoA has Manus, TRC has Gael)
Am I wrong? Literally the same damn thing.

Big fan of dark souls 3. Game beat the stuffing out of me. It influenced me so much that i am making a lothric knight costume gor Halloween. I am in the visual arts field and have been exploring generative AI image manipulation and movie creation and thought what better subject matter to do tests on than… dark souls 3! Anyways, hope you enjoy, had a bunch of laughs making this and learned a lot.

I was wondering what game i should go next to, like not something like lies of p or anything, something similar to dark souls in the midieval souls vibe, would appreciate any recommendations. Also at what point can i call myself a souls vet? like ive also beaten elden ring so can i call myself one? just wonderin

I had been stuck at Midir for ages, and I had almost contemplated deleting the game but somehow we fucked the living shit out of it. So thank you so much for being there! This was really awesome!
And you sir are a badass!

I'm trying to do covenant stuff but I keep getting summoned by the same person into the swamp place, I don't think I'm supposed to be there. Idk if this is bad but there were also 2 watchdogs and another faithful attacking him the most recent time (he died, get bent).

I cannot take this place anymore oh my god everyone is so fast and my spells do like 50% damage. The furthest I got was the distant manor but I cannot deal with jail of death and suffering or spider people. I'm on PC please get me out of here.

Hey guys, I have all weapons, rings, and armor in the game. I’ve farmed everything, and I’m looking for a strong all-rounder build. I’m not looking for a beginner build — I need an OP endgame build for NG+7.
Could you guys give me some advice on which build is the strongest and most effective for NG+7 in DS3? I’m open to any playstyle as long as it’s powerful.

Finally beat the game. This was my first play through and souls game in general. Died many times but thoroughly enjoyed the journey. Any recommendations on what to play next?
