I love Dark Souls. I've beaten the first one many times, the second one is my favorite. But I think the third one is by far my least favorite souls game, and I think part of that is because I can't get myself to play very far. I've only gotten slightly past Wolnir, which I know isn't that far but I couldn't play farther than that.
This isn't a rant either, Its a genuine issue for me.
I know mechanically, the third is superior to the first two, I'm not gonna act like the others were better. 3 had better and more fun weapons with more types and effects. It nailed that aspect, I just personally liked the first 2 better. But I think the tighter controls and faster combat actually make this one less enjoyable for me. The first two were clunky, and Dark Souls feels more like a game that embraces the clunk rather than being hindered by it.
The world isn't that engaging to me, I hate the way it looks. I know the lore reason for it, the universe is ending, and the game feels like it, and its just a bummer to explore. 1 and 2 felt better to me. 1 felt like a destroyed city, exploring it made you wonder how this place was before all this happened. 2 was an area at the start of falling apart. All the areas I was in were graveyards, swamps, a sick town. I don't wonder how it looked before this all happened because this is probably what it looked like.
The graphics are terrible, just flat out, I've played on both PC and PS4/5, and its abysmal to me. The screen is way too cluttered, there is way too much unnecessary detail that it makes my eye un-focus because of it. I never know where I'm supposed to look, everything is trying to pull my eyes away from what I need to look at. There doesn't need to be thirty gravestones in one little patch, there doesn't need to be unleveled cobblestone on the paths, it's just too much.
The art style and graphics clash, giving the game this unfocused look, like your eyes when you zone out, how everything blurs a bit. The entire game looks like that, its fuzzy and a pain.
1 and 2 handled its graphics much much better because it was simple. The textures were flat and when you looked at them closely you can see all the imperfections. But when you focused on the game, what your supposed to focus on, it all blended beautifully. You know what the area is supposed to be, it gave you all the information you needed and none of what you didn't.
I want to play this game, it's the only Dark Souls game I haven't beaten yet. But if I have to force myself to play it then its not worth playing. Is there anyone else who had a similar issue and found a way around it.
