Announcement The question mark must be in the TITLE

Since I am getting modmail on a daily basis with people saying they put a question mark, I wanted to clear something up.

The question mark must be in the TITLE! Not in the body of the text, not lying on your desk under some paperwork. In the TITLE. The automod message you receive when your post is rejected clearly states this.

This submission has been automatically removed because you did not include a question mark ("?") in your title. Reddit does not allow post titles to be edited, so if you would like, you can post the question again. Please write your title in proper question format, and include a question mark, thank you.

General Question Usually cool cars have horrible mpg (muscle cars/trucks), and efficient cars (Prius) are un-cool. What’s the most fuel efficient car that you still consider cool?

Help!?

Can someone explain why this might be happening???
Nissan Murano 2014
My car drives great until I drive uphill over 80mph. Utah highways are new to me and that’s the posted limit. The RPMs in my car go up while I’m pressing the gas and then it goes back down on its own while I’m trying to go fast. You can hear the motor is trying to work harder . It goes up and down while trying to maintain velocity. Before I take it into the shop, I’m a girl who knows nothing about cars and I don’t want to be taken advantage of going in clueless.

General Advice A beautiful road isn't always a great driving road. What makes the difference for you?

I've been thinking about how different a scenic road can be from a genuinely enjoyable driving road.

You can have incredible mountain views, but if the road is full of traffic, the surface is terrible, or every corner has zero visibility, it isn't necessarily that much fun to drive.

On the other hand, an ordinary country road with good visibility, a nice flow between corners, and barely any traffic can be surprisingly enjoyable, even at perfectly legal speeds.

Personally, I think a good driving road needs a balance between scenery, road conditions, visibility, and traffic.

What matters most to you? And what's a road you've driven that really got that balance right?

General Question Where can I get reputable wheels?

I have been looking for a new set of wheels since I've gotten my car (1991 miata), and I have found a handful I've liked since, but every time I've looked into them anything more than surface level looks, they are all "reps" (Kensei tandem 15, avid 1s, focal 421x) or a company that is generally referred to as unreliable (cracking, bending, etc etc) and the one that I have found that was both not a rep, and by a reliable company, is no longer in production (maxxim airs). I know you pay for what you get, but my god 2k for a set of just wheels is crazy right? Or am I just out of my league money wise.

I've been through tire rack, fitment industries, discount tire, and honestly its hard enough to find a wheel in 4x100 let alone one that looks decent.

Are there any reputable places or brands to get wheels that aren't reps or shitty quality?

And if I do settle for reps, its a miata, do I really need to worry about them bending or breaking that much? It's not the world's most performance based car.

Tldr: where do I get wheels that won't get me laughed out of car meets?

Help with a school survey?

Hi everyone! I'm conducting a High School research engineering project investigating wind buffeting when driving two-door coupes with the side windows open. I'm looking for current or recent owners of vehicles such as the Ford Mustang, Chevrolet Corvette, Camaro, Dodge Challenger, and other two-door coupes to share their experiences. The survey takes less than 3 minutes and asks about your vehicle, interest, and experience with wind buffeting. Your participation is optional, but your feedback will help me better figure out how different coupe designs and driving conditions affect wind buffeting.

Survey link: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdEIxSHNbodjJVZ-AD_L9DPKE3ALZ5iHlod5gZQX7eMADdgRw/viewform?usp=header

Thank you for helping with my research! Feel free to share this post with other coupe owners, if permitted by the group.

Should I change trans fluid?

• Upvotes

I have a 2017 v6 automatic Mustang. I can’t remember the last time it’s had its transmission fluid changed but jiffy lube wanted to do it. Should I have it dumped and filled or flushed or leave it? I’m at 100,000 miles currently

Air/tire check without any other service?

Hi there,
I'd be exaggerating to say I'm disabled but I'm an old man and it's really tough for me to kneel down to check or fill my tires these days. I know places like "10 minute oil change", Tuffy muffler" etc. will do it as part of their oil change service but I was wondering if they'd do a quick tire check and fill between oil changes.
My cars tire pressure monitor tends to go on at the slightest pressure drop. I wouldn't mind paying a few bucks just to get 'em checked and filled if need be.
Whatcha think? Any advice or chain service ideas?
Thanks.

General Advice Is buying one of these cars a bad idea?

• Upvotes

First time buying a car. Want a nice, smooth, quiet ride for under $16k with a little space and okay gas mileage. Don’t want to fork over a TON for repairs and maintenance but I’m okay setting aside the money for an alright car. I’ll probably put 400-500 miles a week on it until I move somewhere else.

I obviously want it to be safe drive as well.

Is this a horrible idea? link to cars

General Question Help with Window Tint while crossing state lines?

• Upvotes

Hi all - I bought my first car and I’m looking to get it tinted. In Mass, they allow 35% tint on the front windows. My family lives in NJ where I will be driving to regularly. In NJ, no tint on front windows are allowed. Will cops pull me over and ticket me even with a Mass license plate? I will also be driving through NY which also does not allow it I believe. Would you just not get your front windows tinted if you were me? Thanks!

General Advice How do I sell a vintage motorcycle with an unusual title situation?

• Upvotes

Hi. I have an unusual situation regarding the title registration of a 1965 vintage motorcycle, and could really do with some help.

A few years ago, my father-in-law in PA passed away and he had a 1965 BMW R60/2 motorcycle. At the time, we couldn't find the original title document. Therefore, my sister-in-law (via power of attorney) inherited the motorcycle. As we didn't have the original title, and I said I would take on the ownership of the bike, my sister-in-law "sold" me the motorcycle and we sent a bill of sales and a registration application to Vermont as we understood that was the only way to do things without an original title. A registration document came back with a Vermont license plate. However, the registration had my sister-on-law's name on it.

After all of that, we found the original title certificate (it was a Maryland title).

If I wanted to sell this bike now, I am confused about what we would need to do? Would my sister-in-law just have to sign the transfer of ownership part on the Vermont registration to a new owner? We are all in PA.

Any help would be really appreciated. Thanks

General Question Did someone try to unlock my car?

• Upvotes

I own a 2021 Range Rover velar and I usually park it outside the house. This morning when I woke up, the back door handle was popping out. I tried to open the door but it was locked, just the door handle popping out. The weather is warm and yesterday I locked the car before entering the house. Did someone try to unlock my car? I’m worried and confused

Cant title old truck?

• Upvotes

Aight let’s try this question here because over on the DMV thread, people decided to pick apart the issue and just act retarded

LOOKING FOR ADVICE OR WHAT TO DO

I live in Massachusetts

So I purchased a 1996 f250 from Connecticut about a year ago and the only thing the seller had was just bill of sale. I asked if he had anything else (old registration, copy of old title) he said because of the age of the truck Connecticut asks for the title back. And I guess he decided to just hand everything over. He said to text or call if I had issues. Well I’ve been using it as a farm truck and just driving it within a couple miles of the farm (illegally).

I tried emailing the seller, texting, calling. And absolutely nothing. The guys like late 70s so idk if he died lol.
I’ve seen some behind the door methods of going to different states to title but I seriously don’t know what to do anymore. I have just the bill of sale and thats it. Can’t register it because I have absolutely no proof of prior ownership.

Anything helps!

And btw. The truck is not stolen. Months after I purchased it I asked for them to see if they had anything and they sent me a 1996 application for registration. And the dmv said it wasn’t good enough

Modification Could the Hemi E-torque module be used as a power adder?

• Upvotes

I have no plans of actually doing this, just a shower thought, but the 5.7 Hemi has an alternator that also doubles as an electric motor with up to 40hp and 130ftlbs to assist the engine directly through the belt drive.

What if someone simply slapped 2 of these on a Miata or something with a supercharger style belt drive? Or simply a regular electric motor? It seems like the simplest way to add hybrid power to any car.

Mechanical Why Won’t My Doors Lock?

2015 4Runner sr5 4x4 will unlock all doors with the interior button or key fob. None of the doors will lock with the key fob or interior lock button. I thought it would be an actuator but shouldn’t my other doors still lock with the interior button? Also changed the actuator on drivers door. No change. When I push either interior lock buttons I can hear a clicking under the dash near the interior fuse panel. I checked all fuses and they’re good. What could be causing this?

Toyota GT86 or Honda Civic as my first car at 21?

I’m planning to buy my first car next year, and I’m torn between a 2013 Toyota GT86 and a 2016–2020 Honda Civic.

I’m a freelancer earning around ₱120k/month, but my income isn’t always stable but this can increase or decrease not below 70k. I’m also a student, so I want to make a smart financial decision.

I genuinely love the GT86. I love its looks and the feeling of owning a sports car at 21. However, the Civic is newer, more practical, and probably less stressful to maintain.
My dilemma is that if I buy the Civic, I might regret not getting the GT86. But if I buy the GT86, I might regret choosing something I want over something I need.

For those who’ve owned either car, especially in the Philippines, what would you choose in my situation, and why?

Mechanical Is it normal to hear a clunk when you shift? 2017 Mitshubishi Outlander with a CVT transmission

72667 miles, 2017 outland sport. I recently took my outlander in for transmisson work because at an oil change the mechanic told me I had very little transmisson fluid. My mechanic replaced a the CV joint. Now, when I shift gears or sometimes engage my break, I hear a faint "thump." Is this normal? Is it related to the transmission? I can post a video in the comments

Should I pay to replace the transmission on my toyota?

Its a 2019 toyota corolla ~87000 miles, the transmission needs to be replaced for about $4500. I have about 5k left on the loan and I'm not sure if I should pay to fix it or if I should get another car. Some context, I don't drive a lot and barely ever longer than 20 mins. The car guy said that I should replace the transmission sooner rather than later.

Mechanical What is this noise being made by my 2005 Accord?

Hi all,

I have a 2005 Accord sedan. 4 cylinder, 2.4L. I've been noticing lately these strange noises sometimes being made on accelerations and decelerations. In the video provided, I accelerate / decelerate about three times...although actually, to be 100% accurate, the "deceleration" is actually me just lifting my foot from the gas pedal.

I typically don't hear it all the time - Sometimes I'll be driving and not hear it at all, or maybe I'm just not noticing it. For the most part, the car is otherwise pretty smooth and turns / steers smoothly, has reasonable power, etc. For what it's worth, I do not hear these noises when not moving (i.e. pushing the gas while the car is in park).

Thanks in advance for any help.

Mechanical Is my car safe ?

My car is shaking

Car is shaking when I brake

Hi guys. I had left a post a while back about my oil and I had some incredible amount of information and helpfulness from you guys . So I figured i would come back to you guys.
So I have a 2024 Grand Highlander .
I recently got my oil changed from the dealership and they said all the inspections passed , however , my wife said ( about a year and a half ago ) when she pressed the brakes while going fast on the interstate the car would start shaking bad .
She said she had told me but if she had I would’ve definitely got it inspected . I drive the car a ton and it has never once happened to me .

Well she is traveling 7 hours today to pick up my daughter from her grandparents and she said the shaking “ started again “
Here’s how she explains it . When she goes about 60 mph or faster and presses the brake , the car begins to shake pretty hard. My wife is definitely known to completely over state the magnitude of things . So that’s all the information I’m left with.

I googled the symptoms and they’re saying it’s most likely the brake rotors but I see on my inspection sheet that everything is checked green . I called the dealership and they said they do check those during the oil change . And it’s a pretty brand new vehicle . Yes the vehicle does have quite a few HIghway miles . But I am just mostly concerned , is she in any danger taking this road trip . The grandma is meeting us half way and she has already left . I would hate for the trip to be called off or postponed if there is not any immediate danger?

If you guys could please give me some advice or maybe ease my mind on this. Thank you so much, I will reply to every comment that is needing more information about the situation. And sorry for any typos I am not proof reading this right now due to my ability to type is far faster than my ability to read . But if it’s just a nightmare to read I will go back and edit if needed . Thank you guys
