Issue with Oasis Aqualounge regular - tired neighbour need suggestions

I am a resident of one of the buildings next to Oasis Aqualounge for about a year now, and I have to preface this by saying I’m not bother by Aqualounge or its community. I also I’m aware that living downtown comes with its own set of quirks and ocassional nuisances, but this situation has gotten out of hands.

There is this one woman who frequents their pool - at least 2 to 3 times a week, and she’s quite noisy doing it. Like obnoxiously loud, and at different times (anywhere between 5pm to 1 or 2 am).

I have tried calling 311, but they haven’t been of much help. I need suggestion of what to do, I’m sure there is some municipal code about inappropriate behavior/noises.

any suggestions are appreciated! thanks

Torontonians, does anyone else find it weird when someone says “goodnight” as a greeting?

So I drive a TTC bus, and something happened that genuinely made my brain freeze for a second. A passenger got on and greeted me with “Goodnight!” the same way someone would say “Good morning” or “Good evening.”
And the funny thing is, I know exactly what she meant. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with it. But my brain associates “goodnight” with someone going to bed or saying goodbye. Every time I hear someone use it as a greeting, my brain needs a second to process it. 😂
Am I the only one who finds this strangely confusing? Or is saying “goodnight” as a greeting completely normal where you’re from?

What's one thing about living in Toronto that people don't really prepare you for?

Toronto gets talked about a lot when it comes to rent, traffic, and the cost of living, but there must be other things that don't get mentioned as often.

For those who've lived here for a while, what's something that surprised you about everyday life in the city?

Could be the people, neighborhoods, transportation, weather, or even little things you didn't expect to matter.

Curious what longtime residents think newcomers should know before moving here.

Where did the Toronto man accent come from?

It seems like this accent just appeared out of nowhere in the 2010s, and I genuinely don’t understand how it happened. Before then, we had Toronto rappers who spoke normally and used Toronto slang, but this particular accent was never prominent.

I grew up in Toronto, and nobody I knew spoke like that. Even in the 2000s, some of the biggest hood rappers, like Camoflauge, C4, Mayhem and Sick Thugz, didn’t have this distinct “Toronto” accent.

What confuses me is that people from this generation were around during the same era, yet somehow ended up speaking completely differently. How did that transition happen? Anyone who’s 25+ seems to have no idea where this accent came from or how it developed.

How does an accent that was never prevalent in our everyday lives suddenly become such a defining part of Toronto culture?

from 2018-2023, what has Doug Ford done to Toronto?

Doug Ford in more recent years has been as anti-Toronto as it gets. But what about when he was first elected as Premier of Ontario? As someone who wasn't paying attention back then, what has he done to Toronto in those early years whether it was harmful or helpful to Toronto?

Is this normal for a family doctor

I have been getting pretty disappointed in the service our family doctor has given my family in recent times.

The lack of quality in her service is kind of alarming, she was also running a restaurant in between.

I've been having a combination of issues i wanted to see her about , but she restricts us to just one issue in the 10 minutes we are scheduled with her. Anything more would require a new appointment.

What if the issues correlate ? Just to get another appointment itself is about a few weeks wait time.

I recall when I was younger the visits were longer and tended with more care, nowadays, it seems very passive and quick.

Also interested in any brunches, day parties, etc.

Thanks for any ideas friends 🙏🏼

Who should I call after hearing intense shouting outside?

• Upvotes

A few minutes ago, I heard some intense outside of our home. It seemed to go on for about 10 minutes. I wasn’t able to see who or what was causing the emotion. The voice is and . However, I’m wondering if it would make sense to call someone now to report it. Any advice regarding this is super helpful. Thank you.

Is Scotiabank Theatre the only location to watch The Odyssey in IMAX now?

I know that it came back to theatres recently. The Cineplex app and website only shows this theatre as an option, I find it hard to believe that it is accurate.

Is there certain day of the week during which more showtimes become available?

LONG POST - TLDR; I really want to go on a multi-day hike, but I have no idea where to start

22 M here!!! So, I’ve been having this wild idea of going on a hike for a couple of days, climbing up a mountain, setting up a tent, and spending a night out in nature. Or even just doing a challenging day hike and coming back the same day.

One of my friends recently went to Banff with his brother, and after seeing his pictures, I’ve wanted to experience something like that even more. He warned me about the bears, though, which is a little terrifying, haha. They hiked up, had lunch at the top, came back down, and drove somewhere else to spend the night.

I also keep watching YouTubers exploring the mountains of Nepal and sharing their experiences. Some people even live on a fucking island and just go out exploring. Watching these people makes me want to get out there and experience something for myself.

The funny thing is, I'm literally from Nepal 💀💀, where every fucking YouTuber goes hiking on a trail, and now I'm sitting in Canada dreaming about hiking. I could literally see hills and mountains 24/7, 365 days a year, with my naked eyes back home, and apparently, I needed to move countries to develop an interest LOL.

I think part of it is that I love the feeling I get from horror movies like Incantation, where people explore strange, unfamiliar places and experience things completely new to them. Obviously, I’m not trying to summon demons in a forest, lmao, but I want that feeling of adventure, uncertainty, and being somewhere completely different from my everyday life.

The problem is that I don’t have a car, I’d probably be going alone, and I have no idea where to start. I know hiking season is pretty much over here in Canada, but I still want to try something if it’s possible.

I guess I’m also lacking people around me who are interested in this kind of stuff in a normal way, not in a Jeffrey Dahmer kind of way, hahaha. You know what I mean? Just people who want to explore, experience something unusual, get a little scared, and make some memories.

So, I’m looking for advice from anyone who has experience with hiking, especially solo hiking or camping overnight. Are there any good hiking spots in Ontario or nearby that are worth checking out, especially this time of year? I'd love to hear from people who've gone hiking alone. Is it a terrible idea, and how do you deal with wildlife, especially bears? I'm open to travelling a few hours for a good hike, but I'd probably need to find people to go with since I don't have a car myself, haha.

One small problem with my lifestyle is that I currently have my co-op five days a week, from 9 AM to 5 PM (Unpaid Labor🥶), and I work somewhere else on weekends, so finding the time might be a bit of a challenge 💀. I'll have to figure out the scheduling, but first comes the planning, right? LOL.

Honestly, I feel like I haven't done many exciting things in life apart from moving to Canada, and even that was scary as hell. Now I want to push myself, get out of my comfort zone, and experience something I'll actually remember. I keep watching people explore mountains and remote places on YouTube, and it makes me want to do the same. If anyone here enjoys this kind of adventure and wouldn't mind having an extra person tag along on a trip OR plan a trip, let me know! I'm looking for people who enjoy exploring, not people who want to recreate "The Blair Witch Project" or "The Ritual" haha

BTW, if it helps, I go to Seneca Newnham, but I don’t have classes rn because of my co-op

What will happen if I dispute my TTC student fare fine?

I got a TTC ticket today (235$) because I didn’t have a TTC Post Secondary Photo ID Card. I had purchased a monthly student pass at Shoppers Drug Mart and the staff loaded it onto my PRESTO card. Nobody told me I needed a separate TTC student ID so I genuinely didn’t know. ( Ttc student card?? What I have never heard of that before ) nobody explained this requirement to me when I purchased the pass.

If I choose Option 2 (Early Resolution), what will most likely happen? Is there a chance the prosecutor will cancel the ticket completely or will they only reduce the fine? Has anyone experienced something similar and what was the outcome?

Would really appreciate any advice. Thank you!

Best hotpot downtown?

My fiance and I are seeing a concert for our anniversary, and we're thinking of trying hotpot for the first time for dinner.

Looking for recommended spots that are easy to navigate and get to from the subways (we're okay with a hot of walking though!), either right downtown or along the west side of line 2 (no further than high park)

For Men - Beard Dye

• Upvotes

Hello folks,

I am not sure if this is the right sub for it.

I wanted to ask the Men in Toronto.
Do you have a recommendation for Beard Dye?

I’ve tired a few and it’s so much hassle to apply and even if do well they leave a patch on the skin and they don’t appear natural.

I am not sure how celebrities manage to dye their beard black.

I go to work everyday and I clean shave just to hide the grey hairs.

If I dye my beard black, I won’t have to shave it everyday and hopefully the color lasts atleast for a few weeks.

Your recommendations will help.

Is it considered rude in Canada to just smile and nod when someone says thank you?

I’ve been living in Canada for about 3–4 years now, after spending over a decade in the US. I’m originally from China, so I’m Asian.

There’s something I’ve experienced several times over the past year or two that has left me genuinely confused, and I’m wondering if I’m missing some Canadian social etiquette.

I play tennis quite often. Sometimes a ball from the neighbouring court rolls onto mine, and I’ll go a little out of my way to pick it up and return it to the other players.

They’ll say “thank you,” and I’ll usually smile, nod, and go straight back to my game.

But on several occasions, after seeing me smile and nod without verbally responding, the other person has said “YOU’RE WELCOME” to me, in what feels like a corrective or almost instructional tone. As if they’re prompting me to say it myself.

It took me a while to realize what was happening, because I genuinely didn’t understand why they were saying “you’re welcome” when I was the one who had just helped them.

What makes this particularly strange to me is that I was doing something nice for someone, and somehow ended up feeling like I was being scolded for not being polite enough.

For context, the people who’ve done this have generally been older white Canadians. I’m not saying this is necessarily a racial thing, but I can’t help wondering whether my appearance plays a role in why they feel comfortable correcting me like that.

I’ve lived in North America for well over a decade, and I’ve always thought that smiling and nodding was a perfectly polite way to acknowledge someone’s thanks, especially in a casual situation like this.
So I’m genuinely curious:

Is it considered rude in Canada not to verbally say “you’re welcome” when someone thanks you?

Is this perhaps a generational thing? A cultural difference between Canada and the US? Or could there be some unconscious bias involved?
I’d really appreciate hearing how other Canadians interpret this, because the whole interaction has honestly been pretty baffling to me.

Hair salon/stylist for blunt “one-length” haircut?

Hello,

I have fine (dark colored) hair, which is also naturally pin straight. I am looking for a salon and/or hair stylist recommendation which can give me a blunt/one length haircut. Ideal budget is $100 (or less).
Unfortunately, I have thinning ends, and my hair has also grown back in uneven lengths from previously having cut my hair into layers. Looking for a hair salon in the North York/Scarborough area, and/or a reasonable distance from a subway stop along line 1.

I find the style/look of haircut I’m looking for is common amongst Asian women, so would prefer hair salons that specialize in Asian haircuts.

Thank you!

Looking for recommendations for a spa that does a relaxing head massage, wash, blowout and style. Treating myself for my birthday before a few days of back-back work events. Ideally within 10-15 mins of union station area as I’m a bit pressed for time but still want to celebrate and treat myself to a relaxing and high quality experience!

Anyone else hear the chainsaw-like noise? (Queen and Dovercourt)

• Upvotes

I’ve been laying awake for half an hour and I can hear this chainsaw-like noise that sounds like it gets closer then quickly goes further away. Maybe a drone? But it had a deep tone like some sort of leaf blower or chainsaw.

Where can I buy U-pins and hair nets for a flight attendant bun in downtown Toronto?

Hi everyone! Does anyone know where I can buy U-pins (hair pins) and hair nets for a flight attendant-style bun in downtown Toronto?

I need them for an upcoming airline interview, so I’d prefer to buy them in person rather than order online. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Does anyone remember this 90s trend? Shell pendant necklaces with a live crab inside
