If you voted for Olivia Chow in the last election but are choosing not to in this one, why?

Title says it all. The other front runner is on such an opposite side of the political spectrum. I am curious to understand people's perspectives on this.

Issue with Oasis Aqualounge regular - tired neighbour need suggestions

I am a resident of one of the buildings next to Oasis Aqualounge for about a year now, and I have to preface this by saying I’m not bother by Aqualounge or its community. I also I’m aware that living downtown comes with its own set of quirks and ocassional nuisances, but this situation has gotten out of hands.

There is this one woman who frequents their pool - at least 2 to 3 times a week, and she’s quite noisy doing it. Like obnoxiously loud, and at different times (anywhere between 5pm to 1 or 2 am).

I have tried calling 311, but they haven’t been of much help. I need suggestion of what to do, I’m sure there is some municipal code about inappropriate behavior/noises.

any suggestions are appreciated! thanks

Question for women going through perimenopause

Hi everyone,

This is a question so I hope it’s ok to post here.

Women of Toronto, I’m not sure how you’re dealing with perimenopause but it’s really striking me down. I feel like my life is headed towards shambles and it’s affecting my work and personal life so much. I feel half the person I used to be.

Would really love if you could suggest any family doctors or clinics in the West end near High Park or Roncesvalles to help me find someone who understands perimenopause and HRT and can help me get through this.

Thank you so much!

How to enjoy life outside of downtown?

Life gets depressing. Trying to fight off the big sad.

We can spend about $500/m on fun activities, memberships, etc, but free would be even better. What do people like to do to break out of the monotony of life when you hate your job and don’t have many friends around?

Answers preferred from those not staying downtown else I’ll get suggestions like pottery classes.

What is life like for an adult goth in Toronto?

Just curious. I knew the big Queen West scene in the 90s / 2000s era had lots for adult goths to do, but what's it like for people who are still into that music / fashion / scene now? I dont mean kids who are still living at home and part of online communities, but actual IRL goth adults who have jobs and go out once in a while.

Torontonians, does anyone else find it weird when someone says “goodnight” as a greeting?

So I drive a TTC bus, and something happened that genuinely made my brain freeze for a second. A passenger got on and greeted me with “Goodnight!” the same way someone would say “Good morning” or “Good evening.”
And the funny thing is, I know exactly what she meant. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with it. But my brain associates “goodnight” with someone going to bed or saying goodbye. Every time I hear someone use it as a greeting, my brain needs a second to process it. 😂
Am I the only one who finds this strangely confusing? Or is saying “goodnight” as a greeting completely normal where you’re from?

does anyone know the route for the 512 "Lansdowne to Oakwood" bus? It's not available on the TTC site.

• Upvotes

I work along St Claire and often am sitting and waiting for the streetcar when I see this bus trundle past. I presume it just goes Lansdown to Oakwood and back but would like confirmation, at least then I'll feel better for all the times I ignored it in favour of waiting for the streetcar

Is this normal for a family doctor

I have been getting pretty disappointed in the service our family doctor has given my family in recent times.

The lack of quality in her service is kind of alarming, she was also running a restaurant in between.

I've been having a combination of issues i wanted to see her about , but she restricts us to just one issue in the 10 minutes we are scheduled with her. Anything more would require a new appointment.

What if the issues correlate ? Just to get another appointment itself is about a few weeks wait time.

I recall when I was younger the visits were longer and tended with more care, nowadays, it seems very passive and quick.

Go train shelter open only 3 hours

• Upvotes

What is the point of having rail shelters at go station when it’s open only for less than 3 hours from 6:15 am - 9am. if there’s already shelters might as well make it during day time when commuters actually use it. If they’re afraid of non commuters using it for sleeping etc, can they not add a fare checker to open the doors?

Same case for the actual go station; I feel like they open as such unoptimal hours

Where did the Toronto man accent come from?

It seems like this accent just appeared out of nowhere in the 2010s, and I genuinely don’t understand how it happened. Before then, we had Toronto rappers who spoke normally and used Toronto slang, but this particular accent was never prominent.

I grew up in Toronto, and nobody I knew spoke like that. Even in the 2000s, some of the biggest hood rappers, like Camoflauge, C4, Mayhem and Sick Thugz, didn’t have this distinct “Toronto” accent.

What confuses me is that people from this generation were around during the same era, yet somehow ended up speaking completely differently. How did that transition happen? Anyone who’s 25+ seems to have no idea where this accent came from or how it developed.

How does an accent that was never prevalent in our everyday lives suddenly become such a defining part of Toronto culture?

What's one thing about living in Toronto that people don't really prepare you for?

Toronto gets talked about a lot when it comes to rent, traffic, and the cost of living, but there must be other things that don't get mentioned as often.

For those who've lived here for a while, what's something that surprised you about everyday life in the city?

Could be the people, neighborhoods, transportation, weather, or even little things you didn't expect to matter.

Curious what longtime residents think newcomers should know before moving here.

Overnight Doula/Nurse

Hi everyone! I’m looking for recommendations for an overnight doula/night nurse in the west end of Toronto to help us with our newborn.
I’ve heard of Alma, but I’m wondering if anyone has experience with an independent doula or night nurse who was great and a bit more affordable. We’re hoping to find someone who can help overnight so we can get a little more sleep during these early newborn days.
Would love to hear your recommendations, experiences, and approximate rates if you’re comfortable sharing. Thank you! ❤️

Is there a place where I can book a computer for virtual meetings?

I'm wondering if there's a place where I can book or rent a computer to take virtual meetings in private and without bothering others.

For context: I was recently laid off, and have been applying for new work. Most initial interviews these days are virtual, not in person. My laptop is ancient, and can't run platforms like Teams or Zoom (not even in browser). I'm seriously considering buying a new laptop, but hesitant to do so without income.

I've been using my local library for job applications, and borrowing my partner's laptop or my phone in a pinch for virtual job interviews, but I'd love to have a reliable alternative.

Googling tells me TPL offers private meeting rooms at select locations, but doesn't look like they offer devices.

Any tips? TIA.

Looking for Jeweller to change earring from butterfly backs to flat backs

Like the title says, I’ve got a pair of sentimental diamond earrings set in white gold that I would love to get converted to flat backs to be more comfortable to wear. I also don’t love taking my piercings out so I figured this was the easiest option. Any recommendations are really appreciated!

from 2018-2023, what has Doug Ford done to Toronto?

Doug Ford in more recent years has been as anti-Toronto as it gets. But what about when he was first elected as Premier of Ontario? As someone who wasn't paying attention back then, what has he done to Toronto in those early years whether it was harmful or helpful to Toronto?

Toronto restaurants with private rooms

• Upvotes

Looking to book a small private room for next week. We are a group of 6 but open to any small/medium sized space. We are seeking out a “cool” restaurant ie nothing in the financial district and ideally central or central west (between Spadina and dufferin approx, south of Dupont). Options we considered were Enoteca and Gray Gardens but both private rooms are booked. Thank you so much in advance!

Black creek village escape room... Proposal?

My partner and I love escape rooms and they would like an outdoor proposal. Im thinking the Pioneer Village game could be good, especially since it sounds like the time pressure is minimal. Has anyone done the game and can comment on how realistic my idea is?

Edit:.clarifying I'm looking at "Lost & Found" https://blackcreek.ca/things-to-do/lost-found-immersive-open-world-puzzle-adventure/

Adventurers are free to wander the grounds of The Village at Black Creek, choose which characters to follow, and decide which quests to take on, making every visit a unique experience

With a recommended team size of 2–4 players and a sprawling 5-hour runtime, the adventure is designed for multiple visits

So this isn't "Where the Dark Things Dwell" (we aren't into horror) and I'm not going to be impacting other players' games since.it.aounds like we're not grouped with 10 strangers to solve with.

Wedding set up and tear down

• Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I need some assistance/recommendations for companies/people that assist with wedding set up and tear down. I am doing a lot of things myself and just need someone’s help with setting up the wedding the day of and then tearing it down after. I don’t need all the extras of a coordinator, and I’m also not looking to pay that big price tag. Let me know your recommendations and thank you in advance!
