Some are saying it is related to the pastor who was getting into relationships with young people in the church. The story broke about 2 months ago.
Fighting isn’t good at all especially where children witness such things.

Question Journalist looking to speak with AI companion users in Africa

Hello everyone!

My name is Danai and I'm a reporter for Rest of World, a New York based publication covering emerging technology in the Global South.

I'm posting because I am working on a piece about the rise of AI companions in Africa. I’m working on an article about how people in Africa experience AI companionship, and I’d love to hear from adults who use or previously used AI for friendship, emotional support or romance.

Whether you use Replika, or similar apps I’m interested in what brought you to it, what the it means to you and how it fits into your everyday life. Helpful, mixed and difficult experiences are all welcome.

The interview would take around 30 minutes Zoom/Google meeting link. Participation is voluntary, and you can skip any question. If you would prefer to remain anonymous, we can discuss and agree on that before speaking.

If you're interested or have questions, please message me privately or email me: [danai@restofworld.org](mailto:danai@restofworld.org)

I look forward to hearing from you!

Employment [HIRING] Content creator in Harare, US$10 per post + sales bonus

I run a small healthcare distribution business in Harare, supplying clinical consumables to clinics and pharmacies. I’m looking for a freelance content creator for our Instagram, TikTok and Facebook pages.

What you’ll do

  • Shoot photos and video: products, short interviews with the public and healthcare workers, and on-the-job shots. No patient faces.
  • Edit the footage and write the captions.
  • 3 ready-to-post pieces per week.
  • In person in Harare. Shoots are on weekends or early weekday mornings. We supply the phone and mic.

Pay

  • US$10 per post, paid in cash every Friday.
  • If a post leads to a sale, you get US$20 for that post, plus 10% of our profit on that sale. A sale counts when the customer refers to the post when ordering.
  • Example: a post brings a US$700 order and we make about US$100 profit. You earn US$20 + US$10 = US$30 for that post.
  • 2-week paid trial, then we talk about a higher rate.

To apply
DM me a short intro and 2-3 samples of your work.

News DNA tests offer hope to families of Zimbabweans missing in Russia

Grieving families from across Zimbabwe gathered at the Bulawayo Registry Office on Tuesday to provide DNA samples to help identify relatives who went missing or were reportedly killed after they were recruited to fight for Russia in its war against Ukraine, in a process that could bring them closer to bringing their loved ones home.

Some travelled from Beitbridge, Jotsholo, Lower Gwelo and Masvingo, while others came from Bulawayo and surrounding areas for the exercise, which the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade scheduled for 13 and 14 October 2026.

The atmosphere was heavy with grief and hope, some relatives arrived visibly distressed and broke down in tears as accompanying family members comforted them and urged them to remain strong.

These families have spent months seeking answers about relatives whose whereabouts or deaths remain uncertain and the exercise offered a measure of hope.

However, it remains unclear when identification will be completed and repatriation can take place.

In a notice announcing the exercise, the ministry said the preferred DNA sample was from the deceased person’s biological mother, as this provides the most suitable reference for the identification process.

“If the biological mother is unavailable, a biological sibling who shares the same mother as the deceased may provide a sample. Where neither the biological mother nor a maternal sibling is available, other close biological relatives may be considered, subject to assessment by the forensic team on a case-by-case basis,” said the ministry..

“Families are therefore encouraged to identify and, where possible, arrange for the most appropriate, available relative to attend the DNA collection exercise.”

Participants were required to bring their original national identity documents, photocopies and, where available, identification documents belonging to their missing or deceased relatives.

The exercise comes about six months after the government pledged to assist Zimbabweans caught up in the conflict, as families continued to face uncertainty over the identification and repatriation of their relatives.

CITE reporting has documented how families spent months seeking answers about relatives reportedly killed while fighting for Russia, with some bodies believed to be lying in Moscow. Their efforts to secure repatriation involved submitting documents and making repeated approaches to officials in Zimbabwe and Russia, often without clear information about timelines or which institution was responsible for coordinating the process.

The DNA exercise is a potentially important step, but identification is only one part of the process.

Families still need clear timelines, regular communication about the results and a plan for bringing their relatives’ remains home.

Relatives who attended the exercise said their grief was compounded by the fact they had not known their loved ones were travelling to Russia.

A 20-year-old man from Masvingo, who provided a sample on behalf of his family because his mother was in South Africa, said his 22-year-old brother had travelled to Russia in January and died the following month.

“I didn’t even see him at Christmas when he came last year. I was busy with a piece job, not knowing that would have been my last time to see him. He went in January and died in February,” he said.

CITE has obtained the names of families who attended the DNA testing exercise and their missing or deceased relatives but has withheld them out of respect for the ongoing identification and repatriation process.

A mother from Jotsholo said she had not known her son had travelled to Russia until after he left.

“He was in South Africa, then he came back to sort his documentation fast and went around March,” she said.

Another woman from Lower Gwelo said her brother had been a teacher before leaving for Russia in December.

He went missing on 29 January 2026, she said.

“I don’t know what overcame him to leave his teaching job,” she said.

She was comforted by a man whose nephew had also travelled to Russia, saying  the prospect of earning substantial money had attracted the young men.

“At least he sent 500 000 rands before he died,” the uncle said, adding that the young man’s mother had refused to attend the DNA testing exercise because she did not believe the process was genuine.

The woman, however, said her brother had not sent the family any money, adding perhaps he might still have been trying to work out how to do so.

Their accounts illustrate the different experiences of families whose relatives left in search of better opportunities but ended up in a conflict zone.

Other relatives said their concerns extend beyond identification and repatriation to the welfare of children left behind.

One mother whose son reportedly died in Russia asked whether the government would provide compensation or other assistance to support his children.

“Is there some sort of compensation so that the children are at least taken care of?” she asked.

Her question highlights the need for the government’s response to extend beyond bringing remains home to include support for dependents and families left with the financial and emotional consequences of the deaths.

The recruitment of Zimbabweans to Russia has drawn growing official attention following investigations, including CITE’s reporting, which documented how people seeking employment were allegedly lured abroad through deceptive job offers, with some subsequently finding themselves fighting in the war against Ukraine.

Read: https://cite.org.zw/zimbabweans-lured-to-russias-war-inside-the-deceptive-recruitment-network-drawing-civilians-to-the-frontlines/

Many of those affected were recruited from South Africa, where they had been working in different sectors.

Among the cases described by relatives were a teacher, an Uber driver and a worker in the tanning and milling sector.

Last week, the government renewed its warning against deceptive overseas recruitment, urging job seekers to verify employment offers and remain alert to increasingly sophisticated criminal networks.

Police have also said they are engaging regional and international partners, including through the Southern African Development Community and Interpol, to address human trafficking.

Read:https://cite.org.zw/zim-issues-fresh-warning-against-human-trafficking-networks-luring-workers-abroad/

In September, President Emmerson Mnangagwa announced plans for a Trafficking in Persons Amendment Bill targeting transnational syndicates advertising fraudulent overseas employment opportunities.

The DNA exercise offers families a possible route towards identifying their relatives and bringing their remains home, while providing a first step towards answers after months of uncertainty.

However, the government has yet to demonstrate publicly it has a fully coordinated system capable of providing families with clear timelines, consistent communication and comprehensive support.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade encouraged families to attend the exercise on either of the two scheduled dates and said those seeking clarification could contact its consular services department.

“For any clarification regarding the DNA sample collection exercise, the family may contact Mr T. Gumisai on +263 242 780748 or email [consularservices@zimfa.gov.zw](mailto:consularservices@zimfa.gov.zw),” the ministry said.

Discussion Does therapy even work in Zimbabwe

I'm unemployed but taking into account that I was employed, would therapy even do anything for me... And what I mean is that the idea seems impractical... Zimbabweans generally view therapy as you being weak, most people don't understand mental health struggles

Then there's needing approx $100 per session for good therapists.. While an average Zimbabwean makes 250 a month, won't that increase your stress? Then there's the toxic negativity part, "it'll all work out, have faith" but does faith and hope fix anything? Does some words by a stranger fix chronic illness? Idk

STIGS leaves being a mission school and becomes a fully fledged ATS Association of Trust Schools.

Made sense since they were a brother achool to St Georges. Many Stigs kids left for Saints to get better Sports and Culture prospects. Guess they can now prevent that.

Congratulations to them.

Question How do I actually educate myself about personal finances in Zim...

I am 26M and i just started my career. I, however, do not think i will be satisfied till i gain financial freedom. The word to define my financial literacy is-clueless. I never came from a well off family and I had to work extremely hard to get where I am, there were never any conversations at the dinner table about assets or investment. The chat was to get a good job, that was it. Personally, satisfaction will not come from a monthly paycheck. I do not want to beg for pension when i am old and vulnerable. There is so much information out there, i just cannot seperate the noise from what makes sense. At some point i even read rich dad poor dad, which, i found to be significantly less than useful , the man writing it also turned out to be a complete fraud. Realistically, what is a reasonable place to start. I would really appreciate any information or advice i can get

We living in borrowed time. It's okay to be selfish, it's okay to put yourself first. It's okay to stop reaching out to people who don't reach out to you. It's okay to want people to give you the same energy you're putting out. It's okay to stop watering a tree that won't bear any fruit.

Question Transmission

Hi everyone,

I recently bought a Mazda Demio with 54,000 km on it, and I was wondering: when do people usually do a transmission fluid change?

Most Zimbabweans I’ve talked to seem to never do it, even with cars surpassing 100,000 km. I’m thinking about changing mine soon and just want feedback from people knowledgeable about cars. Thanks!

Question Affordable Weekend Getaways Near Harare?

We’re looking for a resort, nature retreat, or adventure getaway for 1–2 nights, ideally within a reasonable driving distance of Harare.
Budget: US$50–80 per person , excluding accommodation , so for activities, food, and other expenses.
Student budget 😂
We’ve already visited Antelope Park, Nyanga (Mutarazi and Nyangombe Falls), Kariba, Vic Falls, and Gonarezhou.
We’re open to hidden gems or underrated spots with activities like swimming, boat rides, fishing, game drives, waterfalls, or simply beautiful scenery and relaxing vibes.
Any recommendations with approximate costs and activities? Personal experiences are welcome. Thanks!

Question Mazda Axela Service

Hey guys 🇿🇼
My Mazda Axela 2017 needs a major service for reaching 100,000km. As this is my first car and I'm going about this pretty much on my own, I thought to come for some advice. Namely:
- what services need to be done during a major service? (note that I've noticed lately I'm not getting as many km/l as when I first got it, which is my biggest concern right now)
- how much should it cost roughly?
- does anyone know of any RELIABLE mechanics? I don't want my car to come back with problems it didnt have before.

Thanks in advance guys.

Question Buying a used car in Zim with about $4k. How do I avoid getting scammed?

I'm looking to buy my first car with a budget of around $4,000 USD and want to do it as safely as possible.

A few questions for anyone who's been through it:

Is it better to buy locally from a private seller, from a dealer, or import directly from Japan at this budget?

What are the common scams to watch out for (fake papers, clocked mileage, cars with ZIMRA duty issues)?

How do you properly verify ownership and registration before paying?

Any trusted mechanics in Harare who do pre-purchase inspections?

I'll mostly use it for town driving and rural trips so I'm leaning towards something like a Toyota Rush or Honda CRV, but I'm open to suggestions.

Thanks in advance!
