Early Access Alarm manager.. Webhook or notification before upgrade/update

• Upvotes

@ubiquiti.. if you’re listening.. across all your product lines… in alarm manager… and, at a minimum… we need to know before any device update is about to occur and when any device is back online after that update.. full stop..

You can view some details in the logs, but notifications/webooks are way better. Nice to have: also would be nice to know after an unscheduled unifi device reboot, etc. My god.. the year is 2026 and we have zero native notification insight into when things go down or come back up from upgrades in our own tooling. Yes, it’s scheduled to look for the update, but we need to know when there are issues with that update. Assumptions shouldn’t be made. Especially important in the AI frontier armageddon era we’re all in today. We need to setup/schedule daily updates for sure. We just need to know if something has been offline for 2 or more hours and if it was because of a hung update or something else. I can certainly monitor external facing ip uptime via some other service on my ip, if I have to, but internally is a real ball buster right now. I don’t know if anything went offline for a prolonged time because it was unplugged, fried itself, or it was a just a failed update, etc. Generally it’s been the update so far and a cold boot fixes, thankfully. Would even be nice to get a notification if the update was a success or not. I know we’re all hammering the update servers, so I expect update failures or even prolonged downloads, etc., but I truly appreciate your software and hardware solutions.

General public, please let me know if I, or my Claude/Chat GPT, sessions etc. have overlooked anything from the above in alarm manager, including on EA releases..

Question Random IoT devices disconnected

I had random IoT devices disconnect from my Unifi network within one hour of each other. No one was at home at the time this happened. Wife and I were working and the kids were in school. I had about 25 devices disconnect. Light switches, thermostats, WLED controllers and so on and none of them have come back online. They are all greyed out.

I have a USG gateway and U6-LR AP's in the house. I have cycled power to my Unifi devices and some of the affected IoT devices, but have not been able to bring them back online. I'm pulling what little hair I have on my head out over this one as I have no idea where to start. Any ideas?

Question Help with temporary and future network

Need to fix network in upstairs office in my rental home, pulled to much wife aggro. In addition, I hope to buy a home next year (Yes, I know about the economy).

That being said I want something for now and to be used in a new place with room for expansion and future needs.

Since it is a rental I don't really have great choice to bring PoE cable upstairs, downstairs is simple enough that I can get some laid on edges of flooring/behind furniture. Currently have a 1 GB Fiber Verizon Fios with their default router/WIFI. Unsure if I want to set it to bridge or just to straight from ONT.

Currently list includes:

Dream Machine Pro Max
Pro Max 16 PoE
U7 Pro XG (x2)
G3 Instant

Plan is to connect the 1st floor U7 PRO XG through cable and the 2nd floor set second U7 Pro XG as mesh. The G3 instant is for baby camera, wanting to get rid of our current one for privacy.

Is the coverage going to be that bad on the second floor?

Any thoughts or suggestions?

Not totally concerned about cost or practicality of AP choices (a E7 does seem a bit crazy though) as its an investment into what I could have in a new home.

Question what do i need to setup a POE camera system with NVR? Like a reolink or eufy camera+nvr system?

Hi there

planning on getting a camera system, was leaning toward eufy or reolink, however i learned about Ubiquiti.

Theres A LOT to it, but my intention is: buy Ubiquiti from the get-go to then have it become my ecosystem over time if i want it to, i might never get there but like having that option.

I also like the video managing software they have

  1. i just dont know which parts i need to make the equivalent of a reolink kit, some unifi things dont come with poe ports, others do, some unifi features may not work with the poe camera system?

  2. id like to get info on what a unifi equivalent of a reolink/eufy nvr+camera kit is capable of doing, and which parts to buy to estimate costs.

  3. or if you think i should just go with the other brands?

Thanks

Hey all. I brought one of these to play with and use as a cheap wifi ap. (air cube air max ac)

I've tried to configure it but it's not giving me a default wifi. Set up as per many YouTube videos with a micro USB power and turned On.. it should give me a default wifi network and then use the app to configure..

any ideas? I've tried to reset it a few times..

Question UTR-LR not working in hotel or aainflight.

I took a trip last month and flew on America airlines. With my normal utr it was able to connect to aainflight and I was successfully able to broadcast my SSID and use it. Unfortunately I left it on the plane by mistake.

Fast forward and I now have the utr-lr. Just took another flight on American Airlines again. Tried connecting to aainflight again this week and it kept failing when trying to get to the captive portal using the utr. It could never resolve the aainflight.com web site. Using my phone without the utr, I was successful in connecting to captive portal but the utr never was able too.

Then I made it to my hotel. Here I’m also unable to connect to the captive portal. It just opens captive.apple.com with a successful message but nothing more.

In both cases with the utr-lr, the captive portal never opens. Using my phone I can directly connect and authenticate to the portals without the utr-lr but so far never using the utr-lr.

What am I doing wrong? I’ve attached photos from the hotel while I’m still here.

Thanks for any help.

Question Unifi G6 Entry running hot!

I have had a few people mention the doorbell is running very hot when touched.

Not got anything to measure it with but doesn't seem normal considering it's a cloudy grey day with no direct sunlight.

Anyone else have same issue?

Question Display for G6 Entry

I have a client who has an existing Comlit doorbell/displays that he wants to get rid of. We just installed 3 ubiquiti cameras and figured a doorbell is the best solution for this. The thing is I cant figure out a good way to display the feed when someone rings the bell. Ideally we can have 2 way communication as well. Is iPad on the wall the way?

Complaint Unifi not letting me keep my UNAS 2 because of their RMA process

Bought a UNAS 2 for my dad. Couldn’t get it working, went through troubleshooting with UI support, and after following their troubleshooting steps we figured out the included Ethernet cable was bad. Not the NAS, the cable. The NAS worked fine when I swapped out the cable for one of my own.

Support said that I could get a new ethernet cable if I reached out to the RMA team, which I did. As part of my RMA correspondence, before UI even responded, II messaged them: “just to be clear, I only want the cable, not a whole replacement.” Next day they replied that cables aren’t normally sent separately but they’d have the warranty team keep an eye out for one, and asked for my address.

The day after that: “the RMA was auto-advanced and a replacement has already shipped.” Whole new UNAS shows up at my door.

Now they say I have to send back my original unit, the one that’s already set up and working fine, because the RMA was “for a UNAS-2-B.” I asked if I could just return the new one unopened. Nope, policy. I asked to escalate and got a longer version of the same answer.

So I’m sending their unit back sealed and keeping mine and hoping they don't charge me. I don't want to go through the setup process again as it takes time because I have to do it at my dad's house.

This is another super frustrating experience I've had with UI support and the RMA team. I love their products, but I've had more poor experience than good with support.

Question I built an open-source PIN keypad alarm panel for UniFi Protect

Thumbnail

Hi all,

First time posting here, so let me know if I got something wrong. I've lurked for a while and figured this might be useful to someone other than me.

I was tired of paying a monthly fee to an alarm company for an ugly panel and worse service. So I decided to drop them to build my own. I was already running UniFi Alarm Manager with a G5 Bullet, so I bought a couple of UP-Sense door sensors for entry detection and built the missing part myself.

Repo: https://github.com/FelixLeChat/unifi-alarm-panel

UniFi Alarm Manager already handles the sensors, arming and notifications well. What it misses is the physical panel for interacting with Arming/Disarming and everything in between.

It's basically a small web app that runs on any homelab on your LAN. The panel runs a full-screen browser on a wall tablet (for me, a Fire HD 10 with a Kiosk app), and UniFi sends every sensor trip to it via a webhook.

  • You tap to arm and leave, and everyone disarms with their own 4-digit PIN.
  • Entry and exit delays are set per sensor.
  • Alerts go to Slack, ntfy, Telegram or Signal with a camera snapshot.

To be clear, this is a DIY project I’m happy to share, since I’m clearly not the only one looking to UniFi to provide it.

If you want to try it, please send me feedback!

Cheers

Question Ali Express 10G SFP Module?

I recently took a punt on these

https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005009644915704.html?spm=a2g0o.order_list.order_list_main.5.3a9f1802utyd1p

I ran some of that "invisible" fiber in my flat recently and at the time just had 2 netgear switches at each end that only had 1G SFP ports.

I've now upgraded to 8 port flex switches at each end and thought it would be good to see if I can get the link to run at 10G.

However the ports do not come up at all, I tried manually setting the ports to negotiate at 10G but still no luck.

The listing does say they should work with Ubiquiti but its Ali Express so heavy pinches of salt must be taken.

If it was a waste of £20 then so be it but I thought I would ask here in case I missed something obvious?

Failing that can someone recommend some good 10G modules, I dont mind if they cost a little bit more.

Question Product Recommendation/Compatibility (Gateway-Switch-POE)

I'm finally getting around to pursuing upgrading my network and am looking at some basic options. It appears that most posts I've read suggest a gateway + AP vs. UDR for a variety of reasons. This makes sense to me so I'm thinking of getting the following

  • Cloud Gateway Max
  • Flex 2.5G POE
  • Instant Outdoor POE Converter

I'm going with the Flex 2.5G as I've got about 4-5 POE cameras to power, so that's about 75 watts. Then I've got an AC Nanobeam Gen2 to power as well, and if I understand correctly the Instant Outdoor POE Converter will take my 48V from the Flex and step it down to 24V for the Nanobeam at the cost of another 10-15 watts (don't know the conversion cost in power). This should leave me with a few POE ports for other devices like one AP (I think that's all I need), and another Nanobeam eventually, and enough power for them.

Overall I'm looking at adding the CGM so I can have better control over my network. I'd like to add VLANs (or whatever they're called in Unifi) to manage work, personal, guest, and IOT. I'd also like better control and improved security through Unifi since right now I have a combo modem/router from my ISP that is severely lacking.

Questions
1. Is my understanding of the Instant Outdoor POE Converter correct and it will let me directly plug in my Nanobeam to my Flex?
2. Any thoughts on this combination of products or recommendations for a different combination?

Question Connecting ECS-Aggregation 10/25gbps SPF28 to 1gbps firewall SPF/RJ45 port

Thumbnail
ca.store.ui.com
0 Upvotes

Background: My non-profit org is... "financially stressed", Delayed hardware replacements, and now everything costs even more.

I need to replace our very old enterprise level hardware. Enterprise level stuff is now too expensive. Ubiquiti (which I use personally) is 1/4 the price. Even getting a hot spare of each switch type is cheaper than Rukus, Fortinet, Dell, Meraki etc.

Our HA firewall pair has only 10/100/1000 ports (RJ45 or SPF)

Replacement hardware:
Looking at a Pair of ECS-Aggregation switches to use as our HA core switches.
The slower ports on this support only 10/25gpbs SPF28

Found this GBIC: Ubiquiti UACC-CM-RJ45-MG

On paper, it "works" Its compatible with both.
I can't find any "proof" that'll work as a conversion between the 1gbps firewall and the 10gbps ECS-Aggregation.

I'm trying to avoid buying 2 more Pro 8 PoE switches and figure out how to rack mount them to use as essentially link speed adapters. I suppose I could

Question Best place to mount G6 Pro Turret?

Post image
0 Upvotes

Hi there.

Getting ready to install my first G6 turret over the garage. Wondering where the best placement would be? Should I center it over the garage door or place it to the right or left? I drove around my neighborhood looking at all the other houses and the general consensus was to install on the outside corner. However, most of the cameras I saw were ring cameras, so not sure if that had anything to do with it or not. The other bogey is that my truck will be parked on the right side of the driveway most of the time.

Thoughts?

Question Home Build Help

Building a new home and have CAT6 run to the front door, bedrooms/offices and to the ceiling on all three floors so I can put in wireless access points. I've been trying to figure out everything I need to make a nice home network that also includes a media server and provides great internet everywhere once we move in. I am getting both confused and a bit stressed that I'm missing something. I don't trust copilot and everything is acronym coded everywhere, but Ubiquiti said to post to reddit so here I am asking for a bit of advice if you have a moment:
Do I need a patch panel?
Do I need additional cabling, rack shelves or connectors or anything?
I was hoping to get everything and have it all ready for when the internet man comes to hook the house up.
Ubiquiti order?

UVC-Doorbell-Lite-W - Doorbell
UDM-Pro - Router
USW-Pr-Max-24-PoE - Switch
3 - U7-Lite-US - Access points
UACC-Cable-Patch-0.2M-BL-24 - patch cables
UNAS-Pro-4 - HDD storage
UACC-Rack-12-Wall-450-G - rack
USP-PDU-PRO - Power distribution
UACC-DAC-SFP10-0.5M - super fancy cable
UPS 2U Pro - battery backup

Question Ignore found AP for Adoption

So I have a full UniFi deployment and about 6 months ago an unmanaged UAP-AC-Lite appeared in my list of devices for adoption. I don't have mesh enabled and if I turn it on and attempt to adopt this device, it just sits attempting and then fails... over and over again. This device is not mine. Is there a way to force UniFi to ignore this device so it stops appearing in my devices list ? It also keeps reminding me that there's an update for it even though it's not part of my system,

Question Potential Voice Through Camera in Kids Room 😳

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I'll try to keep this concise, but last night my wife and I heard a voice in my kids room (attached video) through our intercom. Completely freaked me out, more so because I believe the only place it could have come from is the UniFi Cameras.

Ive been looking at logs and sending Claude through them and everything is coming back clean.

Kids Room Devices

  • G3 Instant (opposing side of the room)
  • G4 Instant (opposing side of the room)
  • Google Home Mini
  • Sonos Move
  • Intercom (Model DM111/DM111-2)

Tech Stack in the Mix

  • UNVR - Remote access enabled
  • UDM Pro
  • Proxmox
  • Nginx Proxy Manager
    • Proxy to Home Assistant
  • Home Assistant
    • Music Assistant
    • UniFi Protect
    • Apple Music
  • Sonos

Events

  • The intercom has two sides; a child side (microphone) and parent side (speaker). We heard the voice through the parent side in our bedroom.
  • I pulled up the camera's and rolled back to when I heard the sound and listened again, and the voice is there, in the room. I thought maybe my parent side monitor just picked up a neighbor, but I confirmed through the cameras it was in the room, on the other side of the house, 2nd floor.
  • The Sonos speaker was actively playing rain sounds.

Investigation

  • The voice was not TTS as you can hear.
  • Confirmed no network traffic to the Google Home Mini, no chime, no broadcast message
  • Listened to the rain sounds on my phone to see if there was a voice in the audio; nothing there.
  • To my knowledge, Sonos doesn't support dropping in and speaking through the speaker, no chime no broadcast.
  • The baby side of the monitor in the room only has a microphone, no speaker per the manual. I also opened it and confirmed no speaker inside the baby side of the monitor.
  • Ran log checks against every authentication into nginxproxy manager, the udm pro, home assistant, unvr and even pulled logs from the cameras themselves; confirmed no stream was played through the camera. No connections into anything other than my own.
  • Confirmed all logins under my account, and the wifes account for unifi were from our known IP's, local network and known public IP address / devices.

Normally, seeing logs and confirming no strange behavior would put me at ease, but that still doesn't answer the question of, where the hell did the voice come from??

Whine / Complaint Protect wish list

Flair: whine / complaint, though I'm not really bothered. Just hoping some of the following come to fruition.

I've been on the cusp of moving off my current home security "solution", and have stopped myself from pulling the "buy now" trigger a couple of times. FWIW, here's my list of needs and wants that would nudge me over the line.

Need:

  • Keypads with easily distinguished panic buttons (e.g. assignable to Fire / Medical / etc.). I'm open to SuperLink or PoE. On second thought: while I hate adding more battery-powered devices, retrofitting PoE to the install locations realistically isn't going to happen.
  • Support for hardwired smoke and CO alarms. This seems like it may be coming, per the current battery-powered option's FAQ: *"Future products will accommodate a wider variety of installation scenarios and direct interconnection between smoke alarms."* I'll buy 6 of these if and when they ship.
  • The SuperLink Gateway HA to ship. I need the LTE backup.

Want:

  • The Alarm Hub Kit sold without the bulky enclosure, or at least supported outside it so it can be fitted into other cabinets (the FAQ specifically says this isn't supported). Ideally the tamper detection could be fitted to third-party enclosures, so I could put it in something like a 42" On-Q in-wall enclosure alongside other equipment and fit the sensor to its door.
  • An outdoor-capable SuperLink thermal sensor, with a definable rate-of-rise or maximum-temperature trigger. These would go in uninsulated garage spaces where multiple EVs charge.
  • A purpose-built option for exterior corner-mounted cameras. Ideally one PoE install giving 270° of coverage. I don't want a single stitched stream, especially if it costs net resolution; I want one compact enclosure that leaves no blind spots. More or less a more discreet, compact AI Multi-Sensor 4 with one less camera.
  • A Protect-integrated garage door controller along the lines of ratgdo / Konnected / Tailwind.

What I really want (but don't expect)

I run both Home Assistant and Scrypted to bridge into Apple Home. I don't want or need family and some guests inside UniFi apps; it's just easier this way for some of my "end users". The tumbleweeds drifting across Ubiquiti's sad, lonely public GitHub are a massive missed opportunity. Shipping these so they're "natively" installable on Unifi gear, but opening up the pieces under a suitable OSS license (with Ubiquiti retaining governance, SDLC), would let the community build and maintain them beyond what Ubiquiti seems inclined to invest in directly. Roughly prioritized:

  1. Native HomeKit Secure Video for Protect cameras. This would remove the need for Scrypted or similar bridges entirely.
  2. The Alarm Hub as a HomeKit security system. Arm and disarm from the Home app, Siri and Apple Watch, with no bridge.
  3. Protect sensors as HomeKit accessories (motion, contact, leak, temperature), with no Home Assistant hop. Same for the siren and doorbell presses.
  4. Protect smart detections as HomeKit events (person, vehicle, package, animal). Detection would run on Protect rather than on Apple TV and HomePod home hubs.
  5. Build on Network 11's Matter visibility. Make UniFi gear a Thread border router, and route Matter between VLANs, so Matter devices can live on an IoT VLAN without sharing a segment with my home hubs.
  6. Wi-Fi client presence as HomeKit occupancy.
  7. Apple Home Key on UniFi Access readers and locks.
  8. HomeKit-enabled router support. Per-accessory isolation and cloud allowlisting set from the Home app, so HomeKit devices can share the hubs' network without per-device firewall rules. Less important to me, since I'll keep a separate IoT VLAN for non-HomeKit devices regardless.
  9. A stable, versioned, documented public Protect API, so third-party bridges stop breaking with Protect updates.
