Question, I’ve been out for about 13 years now so maybe things have changed, but this lady I work with keeps saying her son is ‘infantry but training to be an FMF Corpsman’. I got my FMF pin when I was in and sure we trained marines on how to treat some basic things and I’m aware of CLS, so my question is, are Marines training to be FMF corpsman now or is her son lying to her?

I am close to getting my degree in Information Systems alongside my CompTIA Security+, Network+, A+, and Project+ (PM+) certifications, and I am currently weighing my career options. My main goals are to stay stationed in Okinawa, enjoy my personal time, and escape the standard enlisted quality-of-life burdens and operational culture that typically come with being in the Marine Corps. To achieve this, I have narrowed my options down to two choices: either commissioning as an officer or lateral moving into CID (Criminal Investigation Division). The primary reason I am unwilling to consider other MOS paths is that I simply do not want to continue dealing with the difficult enlisted quality of life as it currently stands in the Marine Corps.

I’m sorry if this isn’t the correct place to post and ask for help but I really need it.
Got out (honorably) end of 24’ and have been struggling to find what direction I should take in life. I tried the cooperate world directly after getting out and couldn’t hack it, and was just recently let go from a fire academy due to my inability to get along with the other cadets (it’s a long story). I’m not looking for pity and this certainly isn’t a sob story, I’m just having a hard time and would like some advice.
If there’s anything you all would recommend I take a look at I’m open ears and would really appreciate it. I’m trying my best to use these experiences since getting out as learning moments and grow as an individual.
I’m still young and inexperienced, trying my hardest to not think I’m a failure and disappointment.
Anything is appreciated. Thank you and Semper Fi

On Oct. 6, U.S. forces destroyed an Iranian-affiliated dhow conducting surveillance and targeting U.S. Navy ships in the Gulf of Oman. Over the past seven months, Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps has continued to indiscriminately target thousands of civilian mariners transiting regional waters in addition to U.S. Navy warships. Crew members were safely removed prior to destruction of the dhow. Repatriation efforts are ongoing.

If someone were to take leave with their address in the local area and the leave was approved, is it cool if they went out of state on a road trip instead?
My leave request doesnt have any activities listed, all it says is its a mental health break. But technically my "leave address" is still local, so just wondering...

Any recommendations on travel bags that are not coyote brown to hold my service uniforms? Including my Alpha coat? Will be doing a good amount of traveling over the next two weeks with my service uniforms. Anybody used one of those 2-1 leather duffle bags? Would prefer it look as civilian as possible. I fucking hate traveling in airports with anything that identifies me as military. Besides boarding first that is 😎

I'm currently digging into some history on my grandfather's time in the Marines during WW2, and possibly across his approximately 27 years serving, the majority of that as a recruiter.
Long ago before he passed in 1999, he gave me an Iwo Jima battle history book, and wrote down 2nd Batallion, Ninth Marines. We'd talked about the Third's involvement at Iwo Jima, and Cushman's Pocket.
As a younger kid I loved looking at a book he had - the Third Marine Division history book that was produced by the Marine Corps and given to everyone in the Third. He eventually put it away as it was getting rather tattered.
I came across that book online randomly a couple weeks ago, found that it was reprinted in 1988, in and ordered a copy. I'm still going to track down an original copy, because it's reprints have paper pages with rather faded photos. The book he had, an original, had glossy pages, and better quality photos.
I just got the book in the mail yesterday and I'm digging in, highlighting anything that refers to 2/9, their leadership, etc.
Beyond his being in the 2/9, I don't have any details, and that would help a ton. ChatGPT has been helpful in tracking down various details, but it could do so much more if I knew those specifics.
Does anyone have any advice, or willingness to help me find some of this information if you have access to specific Marine Corps records, or resources from that part of World War II? I would really like to know more about the third's involvement at Bougainville and Guam, and everything leading up to those battles, and after.
I can remember he and my grandmother talking about him being at Okinawa, and also in China, but I think he was stationed there after the war was over.
Also, he earned a purple heart at Iwo Jima, and I had always heard that he had been hit by a shell, but nothing more specific. I have been trying to find records of purple heart recipients, but I'm coming up short finding the exact situation that he received one for.
Thanks in advance for any help you can offer. I never served, was born in 1977, and have always had tremendous respect for his service, and reverence for the service of those who fought there, and those who gave their lives in WW2. This part of my family's history means a lot, and preserving that knowledge for my own kids is important to me.

Capt Tejack and her mom keep crushing it in Season 39 of the Amazing Race. They won the leg of episode 3 (first daughter-mother duo to accomplish that feat).
