Switching plans on leave
If someone were to take leave with their address in the local area and the leave was approved, is it cool if they went out of state on a road trip instead?
My leave request doesnt have any activities listed, all it says is its a mental health break. But technically my "leave address" is still local, so just wondering...

I personally did this a few times. Called to let the boss know each time. Only once did the cock sucker I worked for say no you can’t do that. But reality is you’re on leave man, and people’s plans change. Give a heads up, be smart, and enjoy your leave. Make it back on time.

This is why i always chose my leave address somewhere far. You don't have to go there and can choose to stay local. But if you have plans to go far then just submit that address. If you don't go you don't go.

It’s not technically against any orders, I don’t believe, but in the event that anything goes wrong there WILL BE questions if not consequences.

Notify your NCO or SNCO, better to cover your bases than get fucked if you get a ticket, in an accident or hurt.

The leave address is for recall purposes. However, if something did go wrong and there was evidence you planned the trip ahead of time (purchasing a plane ticket before the leave) then you could get hit with false official statements. But it would be a small stretch and I would consult a lawyer before accepting that NJP.

Definitely let someone know about your plans. One person in my shop got negative counseling for something like this.

If you don’t plan on accidents or getting ticketed in another state, then you’re fine. Otherwise, I’d just update the appropriate people in your chain
