Alright, to any young men that don't know this, your buttons on a tucked shirt should line-up with your belt buckle. It should make a line. Your tie should also end up on this line.🤙

u/2funki 20h ago
And iron your shirt

u/JealousAstronomer342 19h ago
Thank you, he looked so cute but that shirt looks like it was stuffed in a ziploc bag for a week.
111
u/PseudoMeatPopsicle 18h ago
It doesn't help that it was also a size or two larger than he should be wearing. Appropriately fitted dress shirts make a huge difference.
33
u/JealousAstronomer342 18h ago
Ideally, yes but i saw elsewhere in the comments that sizing and cut are particular problem for trans men. Still though, an iron!
22

They are. I dress man sometimes and there is a 6 inch difference between my hips and waist.

As an ex-mormon and former mormon missionary who's worn too many ties for one lifetime, I'll second this teaching. If you learn the double winsor, you can more easily check the length before fullying tying by holding the in progress knot up to where you want to tighten it on your neck; single winsors always stretch out more than you'd like after completing the tie.
Also, a useful life hack is salvaging sections of the button hole side of an old shirt. Feed it through the loop in the middle of the tied tie and hook into the buttons above and below the loop. You can buy products that do the same thing, but reduce, reuse, recycle, is also fun. Great way to prevent your tie from flying around in the wind or getting in your way if you need to do anything that isn't standing straight up.
30
u/AnotherDamnTransAlt 22h ago
He straightens the buckle once the tie is done. You can see it at 00:31. Presumably just didn’t bother until he had it finished because he was moving around in the shirt a lot.

Republicans want this guy in the women’s bathroom…
2.2k
u/MorayMafia 1d ago
Their bathroom laws make it so that trans men cannot use public toilets at all. A passing trans man cannot safely use the women's restroom despite it being legal, because he'll be seen as a pervert creeping on women. They know this. The goal is to push us away from public spaces all together.
231
u/tolfie 18h ago
Yup. People on the left always try to dunk on these types by being like, "Haha you're so silly, that's ILLOGICAL!!! Your argument OBVIOUSLY doesn't make any sense, dummy!" as if transphobes are actually speaking in good faith.
99% of the time their viewpoint is "trans people are weirdo freaks and I don't like that they exist," and every argument they make about trans people is just that, but cloaked in bullshit to make it seem like they have a real point.
It's the same reason you can't really argue with them. If you prove them wrong they'll just move on to the next talking point because they never actually cared about what they were saying in the first place. They just thought it was the excuse that was most defensible.

Also also if trans people all the sudden cant use restrooms safely where in the actual fuck are we supposed to piss at say… work?
If a job enforces a strict bathroom ban and has no single use restroom (like all the places Ive worked) how is a trans person supposed to use the bathroom safely? What if coworkers feel uncomfortable with a trans woman in the mens room?
The whole protesting women and girls is such a garbage shield these monsters use to other use and try and force us into a situation where we either conform and go back into the closet or make a more permanent decision.
It was always the plan and people fell for it hook line and sinker and now? We are in the worst timeline.

Simple solution, make all bathrooms unisex. Fill them with more stalls. Personally I know plenty of guys who would rather sit down to pee in a stall, or single dad's who want to bring their little girl into a bathroom without making it awkward or having her see a bunch of guys peeing. Many European countries already do this.

Have you actually ever used one?
I have. I admit it was weird at first since it goes against your usual expectations, but I never felt unsafe.
If anything it's safer. If you have a family with kids they can all go in together whether they be father, mother, uncle etc.
You still have your own private toilet room the sink area just becomes public. That actually means that MORE people will be going in and out of the room so if you DO have an issue more people can jump in.

u/ZinaSky2 1d ago
I’m not good at men’s fashion either, but I think it def looks oversized which is why it looks so wrinkly.
He looked good in the end, but a nice crisp, well sized shirt would have done a lot
110
u/KimchiMcPickle 1d ago
I think a lot of trans guys oversize their shirts because they are still defaulting to sizing for a pre-op chest and sometimes forget that close fitting dress shirts are the way to go
32
u/AnotherDamnTransAlt 22h ago
It’s not just that. If your hips are wide, you need a shirt that can go from pit to hip in a straight line without catching. That means sizing up on what is ideal for the back/shoulders to accommodate the hips, and is a problem that persists or actually gets worse after top surgery as you no longer have the additional mass up top from binding to pad out the upper half of the loose shirt.
It is a massive pain in the, ironically, tits.

u/ZinaSky2 1d ago
Oooh that makes sense! Maybe he even had this one from before. Makes sense!
It’s just that he’s very fit (looking respectfully lol) so it’s unfortunate to see him get swallowed up in that shirt. (He’d look so good in a little vest or waistcoat.) Sounds like he’s aware the sizing needs work tho!
24
u/MakeSomeDrinks 1d ago
That's called billowing, because it's not fitting his torso correctly. I learned about fitting clothes in the military.
For me, the neck, shoulders and sleeves fit most brands right off the rack. But the torso is too wide if it's not slim fit. So I go in to the tailor at the mall, and they take em in. Cost next to nothing and makes it look amazing. It also stays tucked better.
→ More replies (2)5
u/coolcoots 1d ago
Look at the arms. They’re so puffy. They definitely needed a slimmer fit. The bad sizing makes the outfit look awkward. Options might be available and would make this same exact outfit look really good.

men's fashion is a fickle little imaginary thing that consists of an extremely narrow range of options with articles popping in and out. I do sometimes envy women with how much stuff is, for a lack of a better term, 'socially acceptable' for them to wear compared to men.

Not quite sure but this person looks quite short and men’s clothing tends to go from teen to full grown man and sizing gets weird. I’m 6’7” btw but I know men’s clothing needs work.

u/candykhan 1d ago
Honestly, everything about this perfectly hits the "young adult male dressing himself for his first semiformal event without someone better at fashion helping him" vibe.
If the suit actually fit him nicely, it would feel like some kind of marketing sponcon. But the wrinkly ill-fitting shirt gave it a kind of awesome authenticity.
Someone is gonna tell me now that he's 45 years old & I'm gonna feel really bad.

Men's fashion is not made for AFAB people. Trans men (even after HRT) have narrow waists, wide hips, and are usually shorter than any man pattern testing is done on. plus if you haven't had top surgery yet, even with a binder you'll have a bigger chest than most men. If you get something the proper length, it clings to your hips, waist, and chest and makes it insanely obvious you're trans. If you go for something that hides your hips and straightens out your sides, it's going to be baggy. That's just how it is.
The only way to truly avoid this, is to alter or sew your own clothes, but most men don't have the time/money/ability to do this.
Source: am a 5'6 trans man and am constantly struggling finding clothes. Extra Small fits my height, but only Mediums give me straight sides. And don't even get me started on finding pants or shoes...... cursed to wear baggy pants with a belt and women's shoes.
6
u/nils_poppe 19h ago
His shirt being too big has more to do with modern tailoring being made for very slim and tall bodies in general, making you size up if it's too short or tight in some places, which makes it look odd in other places. Cis men also struggle because of this.
Instead try buying boxier, more vintage cut shirts. Pants too. Most proper (as in, not slim fit) men's clothing should fit even a woman of the same build, so a trans man on T (and binding) shouldn't have such a hard time finding at least shirts that fit nicely. Vintage vintage vintage!!!!!

"Trans men (even after HRT) have narrow waists, wide hips, and are usually shorter than [...]". Sucks to hear that, man. I've been on T for more than 8 years, worked out for countless hours and tried my best to achieve the physique I've been looking for. Typically, I'm happy with it, until someone reminds me it's still never going to be enough and I'll always have more feminine traits because I had an estrogen dominant puberty first. I wasn't able to start T as a minor because my parents didn't allow it, so I had to wait until I was 18. It doesn't help that my sister and all of my 5 brothers are taller than me (178cm).
Anyway, it is what it is. It's still possible to find fitting clothing imo.

That’s because transitioning isn’t about getting attention. Maybe not all of them, but like...99.9% are. My best friend was Mormon and at one point wanted to go to conversion therapy to "fix himself" so he could go back to being a good Mormon and get married to a girl and have kids. He seems to have a good relationship with his family even after coming out, but he and his husband left the church and moved across the country while his family is still in the same place, so... I don't know. Most Mormons who leave end up pretty ostracized for doing so. I have a hard time believing any religion that tells you from a very young age that it's wrong to be yourself and that you can't ever leave the church doesn't create a following made up entirely of bigots.

Serious question but why is wearing a suit harder for trans guys?
119
u/not_productive1 1d ago
Great question! Men’s suits are cut to fit bodies that don’t tend to have hips or wider butts, and cis guys tend to have broader shoulders. On trans guys that isn’t going to give you the silhouette you’d expect on a guy in a suit. If you size up to get it to hang right, it’s gonna look baggy. If you make it fit correctly, you’re gonna emphasize stuff you don’t want to emphasize.
There are tailors who can help and at least one suit company that specializes in suits for trans men, but they’re expensive (obvs).
67
u/Previous-Screen-3875 1d ago
The narrow shoulders thing is the real killer. Narrow shoulders, even in cis guys, often gives the "kid wearing their dad's suit" look, unless your suit is tailored by someone who knows what they're doing.

Looking hot in a suit is something a lot of guys worry about. Most cis guys don’t have the “ideal” proportions for a suit, so trans guys are also not going to have the “ideal” proportions. Trans guys are also generally shorter, and short guys are self conscious.

If you're below maybe 5'7 absolutely. I'm nonbinary/a cross dressing woman and the main options are the more androgynous clothing for women or the less obnoxious clothing for boys. Because the hips can be wider as well on trans people, boys' jeans may have a hard time fitting around that area too so you have to go for something more baggy.
On the plus side if you're into suits you can probably pick up somebody's old ones from when they were a middle schooler.

It's so funny seeing all these '90s women's haircuts on teenage boys nowadays

No one needs that much Sauvage. I don't even hate it, but that's enough to last until his death.

Why is every top comment raging on this guy in some way and getting crazy upvotes. Is it a passive aggressive transphobe thing?

I read it as "LSD wedding" at first and had no idea what being trans has to do with tripping.

Serious question: Does no one own an iron anymore? Is it like a lost art or something? What about face wash and a good moisturizer for acne and rosacea?
