Discussion Talarico tackles abortion, faith and ‘conspiracy theories’: Takeaways from the CNN & Jubilee town hall - Article
Hey y'all! I really really want to discuss this Town Hall with my fellow Texans and since I am using an article worth reading I hope this will be allowed. My last two posts with direct links to the video were removed for apparently breaking a rule...
This is the most important election of most Texans lifetime, so I hope the mods will allow discussion on the specific topic of Talarico's policy platform.
Talarico touched on important topics, and I actually disagreed with some points (that Biden failed border security), but I loved most of what he said. I think he is zoning in on what it truly means to be Texan, and trying to take us back to the successful, booming Texas I grew up.
What are y'alls thoughts on the article and James' town hall?

Analysis National Democrats once wrote off this Texas congressional race. Why are they jumping in now?
Katy Padilla Stout initially started her congressional campaign alone. National Democrats are now funneling her millions as she runs against GOP nominee Brandon Herrera, a gun rights YouTuber known as the “AK Guy.”

Analysis Texas Christians & the US Senate Race
If you are Christians, do you actually wish to know God as Jesus did? That's the question for Texans debating about Talarico's statements similar to "there are 6 genders" and "God is nonbinary".
If we examine the Halakhic tradition of First-Century Judea, the existence of multiple genders is deeply rooted. Ancient Jewish texts—such as the Mishnah and later the Talmud—explicitly outline SIX distinct gender and sex categories, including the Androgynos (possessing both male and female characteristics) and the Tumtum (indeterminate characteristics). These were not edge-case anomalies to be discarded, but recognized realities that Jewish legal scholars meticulously integrated into daily religious obligations. Jesus clearly knew about this system as he said in Matthew 19:12, "For there are eunuchs who have been so from birth, and there are eunuchs who have been made eunuchs by men." Eunuchs in this Halakhic system would have been referred to as Saris Chamah or Saris Adam. Check if your prejudice is stepping on your faith - do you really wish to know God as Jesus did?
Within classical Judaic theology, God’s divine essence has always been understood as inherently beyond binary limits (Ein Sof - literally meaning "without end"). The Abrahamic God of Jesus is nonbinary by definition: an infinite, incorporeal Creator who encompasses both the masculine (Kadosh Baruch Hu) and the feminine divine presence (Shechinah). The Midrashic tradition even suggests that the original human (Adam) was created as a dual-gendered being before being separated into male and female, directly reflecting the multifaceted-ness of God.
As an observant Jew living under Halakha, Jesus would have been thoroughly steeped in a theological world where God cannot be boxed into human gender roles and where societal complexity was already codified. Talarico’s stance is not a departure from traditional faith; it is a return to the ancient, expansive reality Jesus was trying to share and teach to us all... Recognizing a nonbinary God and honoring the spectrum of human gender identity does not erode religious heritage—it simply honors the full depth of divine creation - as Jesus did and intended his followers to do too...
So check yourself - like Jesus will when Kingdom comes - do you really wish to know God as Jesus did, or do you just wish to use your own ignorance as an excuse to hate? “And the King will say, ‘I tell you the truth, when you did it to one of the least of these my brothers and sisters, you were doing it to me!’" Matthew 25:40.

Editorial Houston Chronicle editorial board endorses Maggie Ellis, Chari Kelly, Kristen Hawkins and Brett Busby for Texas Supreme Court
The Houston Chronicle editorial board issued its endorsements for Texas Supreme Court, retreating from its usual position of supporting incumbent judges. Here's why:
Texans elect our Supreme Court justices. But when one jurist steps down midterm, instead of holding an open election, the governor gets to pick someone to serve the rest of the term. Gov. Greg Abbott, himself a former justice, has managed to appoint seven out of the nine justices on the Texas Supreme Court. Once he’s appointed a nominee to the court, they typically sail through the Republican primary. And in a state where Republicans have won every statewide election for decades, it’s no surprise that Abbott’s picks then win the general election.
That ability of one man to shape the courts is concerning — especially since the governor has often chosen to appoint lawyers from his own office, men who spent most of their careers advocating for the state. The Founders designed a government with three independent branches for a reason. Now the independence of the Texas judiciary is in question. That's why, for the Texas Supreme Court, the judicial incumbency that typically earns our praise and endorsement merits some healthy skepticism.

Opinion PLEASE
If anyone from the Gina Hinojosa campaign is seeing this, Abbott’s campaign is killing you with lies about her voting record on taxes. For God’s sake, please PLEASE cut an ad pointing out that a state income tax was made unconstitutional in the 1990s when Ds were in the majority. And while you’re at it, PLEASE mention how the state budget has ballooned while Abbott has been governor. C’mon, this is low-hanging fruit.

Discussion Man, the GOP candidates this election are just are total garbage, like worse than previous years
I'm writing down who I want to vote for the upcoming election and try to be objective but man its not even close... this is the worst set of candidates I've seen put out by the GOP so far and I've voted in many Texas elections. Complete total garbage. I don't even have to name names. You exactly who I am talking about. I have to vote blue on every partisan race, not because I necessarily like the Democratic candidates, but because they have like no serious competition. The Dems are going to sweep the state because the GOP can't field decent candidates.
What's going on? Maybe the rot from Trumpism has festered with his primary challenge endorsements going to morons and this is the result. GOP come on! Step up your game! choose better candidates.

Opinion Book Recommendation
I just finished The Myth of a Red Texas By David Griscom and hadn’t seen much discussion about it. I thought it was an interesting book that gave some context to the history of politics in the state. It covered some of the collectivism of the farmers in the post civil war, socialism and Eugene Deb and some post WWII union. I definitely learned quite a bit from this quick read and would recommend it to anyone interested in the history of progressivism in the state.

Discussion Texas republicans focusing on Gender Issues over pocketbook and common sense. Texas will turn blue.
Today I received more Republican advertising in mail, this time it was all about gender comments by Talarico. This is in addition to endless TV ads, YouTube ads, Radio ads, social media ads. There are a very few related to taxes, drowned out about gender related ones.
Especially when it comes to Talarico, I have not seen any Republican ads criticism him on
- jobs
- inflation
- fuel prices
- electricity prices
- data-centers
- immigrant treatment
- war
- weather
- SNAP benefits
- farmers and ranchers in distress
And anything else that impacts the overwhelming majority of Texans.
