The Ten Commandments posters in Denton schools today

Look ugly as hell. Aren’t yall prosperity gospel types the people who did this? Couldn’t cough up the cash to buy nicer looking crap? Fascists in WWII had style at least, but yall have none. Very sad.

Ten commandments

The ten commandments are posted in all my daughter's classrooms today. She is pissed. She has already been thinking about homeschool and this may do it. I hate the message this sends to all of us non-christians especially kids. It is not wrong to not be christian.

Got buzzed by a very low-flying airplane three times in my apartment. Is this legal?

This happened about 40 minutes ago. I created a throwaway account because I'm adding a video to this post that pretty much doxxes where I live.

This airplane flew very low over my apartment building at least three times. The first time I did not capture on my camera, but I heard a rather loud drone of a plane and looked over my shoulder out the north facing window and saw this plane very low, I almost thought it was about to clip the top of the building. The pictures I've attached to this post capture the second and third time that it buzzed the apartments.

Flightradar24 (a website that tracks flight paths) said that this plane was flying at an altitude of 800 feet. Provided this tool is accurate, that is below the minimum altitude of 1,000 feet above congested areas as designated by the FAA, though that could be wrong.

Am I wrong about this? Is there someone I can report this to? Sorry if it turns out I'm overreacting, but this was quite worrying while it was happening and I had to stop what I was doing at the time to watch the window in case something went wrong with the plane as it was headed towards me and I had to suddenly take cover.

21F looking for girl friends in Denton!

Hey everyone! I’m 21F and looking to make some girl friends around Denton and the surrounding areas! I work full-time, so I’d love to meet some people to hang out with on my days off. I love reading, going out, trying new restaurants, shopping, and just finding fun things to do! I’m also always down for a chill night in. I’m in a relationship, so I’m strictly looking for platonic friendships with other girls, preferably around my age or at least 21! I’d love to find some genuine friendships and girls to have fun with! Feel free to comment or message me if you’re interested! :) I’d be happy to exchange instagrams if we click.

Hall-O-Wing Parking Reservation

I was hoping someone had an extra parking ticket or one they will not be using for the Hall-O-Wing trunk or treat/festival they are doing out at the Denton Airport. It’s sold out and parking is limited :(

I only found out this week and it was too late. Just wanted to take my kid who is super into planes.

I’d really appreciate it! Thanks

Anyone else at a Denton Student Apartments (BHOM) property getting $300+ per person utility bills since the switch to Conservice?

We live in a 2-bedroom at one of the Denton Student Apartments properties (the BHOM ones: The Quarter, Iconic Village, Zen, The Metro, etc.). Two of us.

Our old lease had a flat $75 per person for utilities. In August the new lease switched to Conservice billing. First statement: about $300 per person. The one that came this morning: $347 per person, so almost $700 for the apartment for one month.

One person's share for Aug 15 to Sep 15:

- Sewer $102
- Water $75
- Electricity $75 (metered per apartment, so that one is probably real)
- Gas $54
- Trash $10
- Internet fee $30 (we have our own internet, separate fight)

Double that for the unit. $200 for sewer and $150 for water, for two people, in one month.

Here is the part I can't get past. The water and sewer addendum in our own lease (the one they wrote) says the average monthly water and sewer bill per unit at this property last year was $27.68. We're being billed $354 for the unit. If you're at one of these properties, that number is in your lease too, paragraph 4 of the Water and Wastewater Allocation Addendum.

We asked the office a month ago for the actual calculation (the property's water bill, how many people they divided it by, what they took off for common areas). Nothing. They told us to take it up with the billing company and gave us an email that turned out to be the internet vendor's. So we're filing with the Texas PUC this week.

  1. Anyone else at a DSA/BHOM property see the same jump? If it's the whole property, that matters.

  2. What do you pay for water and sewer in a 2-bedroom here? Just need a sanity check.

Thanks.

To the visitors please be respectful

It makes me sad to see that Helmock Fox had some of their art stolen off their walls this past weekend. They are nice people, as are all the businesses on/off the square.

This past weekend was busy for a lot of businesses on the square. They have all worked hard to be part of the town’s Halloween event. They all want the visitors to have a fun time. They all want to represent the square well.

Unfortunately this last weekend the hospitality was abused. I hope that visitors for the rest of the month have fun, but also be respectful. Don’t steel things.

Needs opinions on 316 Fry Apartments

I’m looking for a cheap studio apartment as a UNT student and 316fry sounds perfect for their cheap price and location.

If anyone is currently living there PLEASE tell me everything I might need to know before signing their lease.

Just a few questions for starters:
do they provide wifi?
how bad are the roach problems?
is it overall safe?
do things break or damage often etc?
is the ac cold enough for the summer and is it warm enough for winter?

lots of thanks

Local software engineer offering free tech/AI advice to Denton businesses & non-profits

Hi everyone,
I'm a software engineer and I have some free time in the afternoons. I'm looking to use this time to give back to the local community here in Denton.
If you are a local business owner, non-profits, or anyone looking for advice on technology, AI, or software solutions, I would love to help you out for free.

I'd actually love to come visit you at your workplace after I get off work. We can discuss things in person, which also helps us both verify that we're actual humans and not just talking to a bot online!

The scope of my help is limited to providing advice, brainstorming, and technological consultancy. I won't be doing any custom development, purchasing equipment for your business, or providing any physical or paid services.

This is completely separate from my full-time work and is purely an effort to support local businesses in my spare time.
Feel free to send me a DM if you have any questions or would like to bounce some ideas around.

Best neighborhoods for Trick or Treating

Hey everyone,

I’m curious to see everyone’s answers to the best neighborhoods in Denton for trick for treating. We usually go down Teasley but we would like to go to neighborhoods that are more closer together if possible and where there’s a bunch of trick or treaters.

Thanks!

Personal Trainer without having to sign up for a gym membership

Hello all - Wondering if anyone has a good personal trainer in the area that can work around a handful of old injuries. I've got to get on track and get healthy. Our apartment has a decent gym, I just need some structure for when I go. Not looking to get jacked or powerlift or anything, just healthy ha. Thanks!

What days are socially acceptable to dress up for October?

I plan on going out Halloween night and possibly the night before or after. Is it still socially acceptable to dress up the day after Halloween??? I might go then to avoid the crowds, but don’t want to be the only one dressed up.
