Support Found steam link in the closet

Has the brick + all of the other items.
Don’t have a working PC currently so… this thing is completely useless to me. What can I do with it?

I don’t remember how much these things cost. Were they ever particularly valuable? Doubt I could flip one for very much but still

bonus: I also appear to have a Steam Controller still in the box. The original one from 2015 i think? That thing worth anything or no?

EDIT: MY GAMING PC IS NOT FUNCTIONING. Please don’t suggest options that are basically “oh you can use it to stream games” if i wanted to stream games I’d just… be using this thing already and not making a post here???

Support Found my old Steam Link! Help with input delay?

Post image
207 Upvotes

I found my old steam link a bit ago, I bought it when they first came out. I only had wifi connections at the time living in an apartment. It didnt do so well then and it got stuck in a drawer and lost for some time. I even thought it got thrown out at one point in thw few moves since then.

Now that it's found amd I have a house. I want to start using it. I was able to get it to work with my wireless controller, and just the device on wifi. I plan to run an ethernet cable to it, but would that solve the input lag I was getting? Or will I also need to use my controller wired too? If I do that, can I use a USB hub? I want to have a keyboard, mouse, and 2 controllers hooked up. I was hoping wireless would be ok, but if it has input lag and I can use a hub, I'll switch to everything wired.

I’ve been using Apollo and Moonlight for a while now, but with the update to 3.8 I heard rumors that Steam Link was starting to be on par with those services.

I made sure both my steam deck and my hose PC were updated to the latest steam version, and while the sound and the latency seem to be fine, I can’t for the life of me fix the resolution.

I’ve played with all of the settings, even trying to force the Steam decks resolution via custom settings. I’ve also told it to match the client. I’ve even tried to force my desktop to be at a certain resolution, but I think the problem is that I have an Ultra Wide. Not only when I stream is the host PC monitor staying on even changing the default display, but it always forces my Ultra Wide aspect ratio onto my steam deck, resulting in this.

For reference, I’m not worried about running Palworld on my steam deck, but I have much more demanding games i’d like to try and I just happen to have this one downloaded.

Edit: Curious, I downloaded the Steam Link app on my Apple TV and tried to stream it to my device and I get the same locked aspect ratio. Does not matter how many times I mess with the settings or if I set a custom resolution nothing. Also tried this across various games.

Support What’s the best current way to wake your pc away from home?

I thought steam link would do this automatically

I downloaded a wake on lan app on my phone and it’s the same it only wakes the pc at home, is there another app I’m not aware that can wake the pc from anywhere?

I saw there’s something you can do with Alexa and echo but doesn’t look straight forward and seems like a lot of steps just to wake pc

Support Help - Is there any way to reduce the latency with my setup?

Hi guys, new to Steam link here.

I am trying to stream games from my PC to my LG TV (LG C1 OLED65C16LA) . I can't use Steam Link on the LG OS, so I am using a Xiaomi Mi Box S (2018) MDZ-22-AB .

I have a high end desktop (Ryzen 7 7800X3D, PC RTX 4090 Ti Super, 32 RAM) , so most of the games run smoothly on it.

My apartment is small, no Ehternet cables, everything wireless. The PC is very close to the router, and the TV/Xiaomi box are closer to it as well (~10m max, no walls in between), but passing an HDMI cable from the PC to the TV is not doable honestly.

Right now I am testing it by running Dead Space, and there is a short delay when playing with the joystick which is a bit annoying. I am aware that there is a delay involved, but I wonder if that can be improved somehow given my setup.

Could it be that the Xiaomi Mi Box S is a bottle neck and I have to use another more powerful device to receive+decode? Are there any settings needed on the Steam link app to improve this? Any tips that can help me on this?

I appreciate any help. Thank you.

Support Steam link stuttering

I recently tried steam link and it feels like it stuttered a lot. The game runs much smoother on my monitor than it does through link. I suspect this is due to my pc using wifi but can anyone confirm this or tell me what it is if that isn't the cade

I'm at my wits end with this godforsaken application. what am I doing wrong? I've tried a multitude of settings, I'm not even streaming in 4K. i just want to play games in bed.

Wired connection to my PC

I've tried a wired and wireless connection to my TV (Wired is capped at 100mbps)

Prioritized traffic to my TV in my router settings

It's completely unplayable, says slow connection regardless of what I do, TV has a great connection to wifi speed tests at gigabit speeds.

No I don't want to use moonlight it doesn't recognize my steam controller.

Support Steam Link keeps disconnecting on new build?

Hey all, booted up Steam Link today and a new update (925) was installed, but no matter what, without fail, after 2 or so minutes of being on it turns off and restarts. I would switch to public/beta build, but the download takes too long and then it restarts the system halfway through. Only thing I can think is factory reset it. Any advice?

Support Using Remote Play on the Plane?

I’m going on a 10 hour flight this weekend from Asia to NA. I was going to buy some games for my iPad but I hate the thought that I can’t combine my Steam library with the App Store. I usually play turn based games and board games so high latency isn’t a big deal (although at a certain point it would be annoying). Would remote play be viable using the plane’s WiFi? I’d keep my PC on at home.

Any advice to get steam link to run with less lag. It’s not much but on games that have high fps such as rocket league the delay is very quite a lot. I have Ethernet router to pc and the router to the Apple TV which is where I am using steam link

Any advise would be great

I use steam link to play on my phone, but I also use it to remote into my laptop and I was wondering if I could extend the display of the laptop to my PC. My PC I use to remote into my laptop is running Windows 10 and the Laptop is on Linux. I don't think its possible but its worth asking reddit lol.

Is There another cheap solution?

Support Hardware Encoding setting messes up colours

I stream Final Fantasy 7 Remake/Rebirth from my pc across the house to my steam deck via ethernet to play on my couch/tv. It's worked fine for months, but a couple days ago it was running poorly so I just restarted the pc and deck. When I booted it, all the colours were mismatched and rainbowish. After hours of testing and backtracking drivers and toggling every setting, the result is that it only does it if my hardware encoding is on. If I disable hardware encoding though, the game runs poorly and looks like shit and it obliterates the bitrate. I couldn't get moonlight or other streaming services to work at 4k so I'm lost on what to do. I've only seen one other post of this issue from like 6 days ago about battlefield in a foreign thread with no solution.

Support Anyone else lose audio passthrough with the new update (Build 928)?

My Steam Link auto-updated this morning, and now there is zero audio going from my Steam Link to my TV. Even before I connect to my PC, there aren't the usual boops as you move around the menu, there's no noise to indicate it's connecting, and once connected there is zero PC audio playing through my TV. I've checked all my settings and gone through all the troubleshooting steps I can find to solve this, but everything seems to be configured as it's supposed to be. Spouse is out of town, and they said they've had this issue come up with the beta build and that they'll "fix it" when they get home, but was just curious if anyone had any suggestions in the meantime.

Support Steam Link Software Input Freeze

Hello, I'm having quite the peculiar bug and looking for support

Host: Fedora KDE X11(Wayland was causing graphical issues)

Client: Raspberry Pi 5

Controller: Dualsense

No network issues showing

When playing games, controller input freezes, sometimes doing nothing, sometimes repeating the last pressed button action or tending in the last joystick direction. Stream remains active with video fine, meaning I can watch myself stuck spinning around in a circle while the enemies shoot me. After 15 seconds or so it works again, but happens once every two minutes or so, meaning it's practically unplayable.

I disabled sleep on the host as I saw this might help but it didn't, any feedback would really help. Thank you :)

Support Steam Link not working unless on phone.

I've tried using Steam Link some years ago from a laptop and it worked fine. However, presently, if I try to use it from a laptop it just never loads in. I need to simultaneously connect from my phone for it to work properly on the laptop (and on the phone). I've tried this on two completely different laptops and it's the same on both. I have looked through basically all the settings on Steam and Link and can't figure out why this happens. Another more minor issue is rhat Steam Link seems to freeze on certain apps, ie. I can still see what's going on but can't input anything from my end. The apps I've had this happen on so far are Everything and the Windows Task Manager. Any help would be much appreciated.

Support Tearing my hair out

I have an OG steam link plugged into my TV and have been playing games on it with some trouble here and there. I'm streaming off my Fedora PC over powerline. I've had some freezes pop up regularly in The Witcher 3 that don't occur when I'm playing directly on my PC - specifically in menus. Additionally, controlling the PC when something goes wrong almost always requires me to go to the desktop itself, like when a game loads up "behind" Steam Big Picture.

I tried running Sunshine/Moonlight, but the visual quality is horrendous, and the controller input is crazy scuffed. Am I doing something wrong?? Is there no good solution? I'm using a 2026 Steam Controller.

Support Rhythmic Lag Spikes

Hi.

I use a NIC (i5-12600H) with bazzite.

My main PC has an i9 13900k and rtx4090.

Everything is set up with lan and gigabit switches. Lan cables are cat7 in wall and cat8 for all endpoints.

Most of the time it works. Sometime I get rhythmic Lag Spikes. Everything stutters for a bit and is then back to being buttery smooth.

Monitor shows me that red and blue line are spiking, yellow line is steady.

No moonlight is not a solution for me. :(

Any ideas?

edit. I think I solved it. See my comment to this post.

Support inputs randomly not working anymore and wont return to normal until steam on host pc is restarted

I stream from my pc to my steam deck a lot but when I use the "connect" feature to try and use my pc remotely a good 5 or so minutes in all my inputs will stop working. My pc is still being streamed and for whatever reason the mouse on the steam deck will jump into position whenever its moved on the host pc but I have no inputs whatsoever unless I restart steam in which case the error returns
