Heroic Games Launcher on Steam Deck

Working 2025 install and controller guide

I rebuilt this because most Heroic guides are outdated, incomplete, or formatted like garbage. This one is current and fixes common controller and Steam Input issues. AI assisted.

================= CORE HEROIC INSTALL STEPS ==============

===== 1 SWITCH TO DESKTOP MODE =====

1. Switch to Desktop Mode

  1. Press the Steam button
  2. Power
  3. Switch to Desktop

===== 2 INSTALL HEROIC =====

2. Install Heroic Games Launcher

  1. Open Discover
  2. Search "Heroic Games Launcher"
  3. Install it
  4. Launch Heroic

(Alternatively: flatpak install com.heroicgameslauncher.hgl)

===== 3 STORES =====

3. Log Into Your Stores

Inside Heroic: * Epic Games
* GOG
* Amazon Games

Wait for the library to sync.

===== 4 PROTON GE =====

4. Install Proton GE (and when to install Wine-GE)

Inside Heroic: 1. Open Wine Manager
2. Under the Proton-GE tab, install GE-Proton-Latest

This is the default and recommended runner for Steam Deck, SteamOS PCs, and Bazzite.
It provides the best overall Windows game compatibility and usually fixes controller issues.

Optional: Install Wine-GE (Edge Case)

In some cases, especially with GOG games on the Flatpak version of Heroic, installs may appear to: - instantly complete,
- sync cloud saves,
- but never actually download game files,
- resulting in games that immediately start and close.

If you see this behavior:

  1. Open Wine Manager
  2. Switch to the Wine-GE tab
  3. Install Wine-GE-Latest
  4. Restart Heroic
  5. Retry the game install

This does not need to be done for most users and is not required for Epic Games Store titles in normal cases.

Summary

✔ Proton-GE-Latest is required
✔ Wine-GE-Latest is optional and only needed if installs appear broken
✔ If your game installs and launches normally, you can skip Wine-GE entirely

===== 5 DEFAULTS =====

5. Configure Heroic Defaults

Heroic Settings: * General: enable "Add desktop shortcuts automatically" and "Add games to Steam automatically"
* Game Defaults: set Wine Version to GE Proton Latest

This prevents per-game setup work.

===== 6 INSTALL GAME =====

6. Install a Game

Open your Heroic library.
Install a game like normal.

===== 7 ADD TO STEAM =====

7. Add the Game to Steam

Two options:

Automatic If you enabled auto add, the game will appear under Non-Steam titles in Steam.

Manual 1. Open Steam in Desktop Mode
2. Bottom left: Add a Game
3. Add a Non-Steam Game
4. Pick the Heroic shortcut the launcher created

===== 8 GAMING MODE =====

8. Return to Gaming Mode

Your Heroic game will now show under Non-Steam.

===== 9 CONTROLLER FIX =====

9. Fix Controller Support Before Launching

This is the step most guides skip.

  1. Highlight the game in Steam
  2. Open Properties
  3. Go to Controller
  4. Set Steam Input to "Disabled"

Why this matters:
Heroic runs inside a Flatpak sandbox and Steam Input can block controller detection. Disabling Steam Input plus using Proton GE solves most controller failures.

If you still have issues: * Try a different Steam controller template
* Try another GE build in Heroic Wine Manager

================= OPTIONAL ENHANCEMENTS ==================

===== 10 HEROIC TO STEAM =====

10. Optional: Add Heroic to Steam

If you want Heroic itself in Gaming Mode: * Add Heroic as a Non-Steam app the same way you added games

===== 11 TILE FIX =====

11. Optional: Fix Blank Tiles (Decky + SteamGridDB)

Install Decky Loader, then SteamGridDB:

You can then: * Highlight a game tile
* Press the menu button
* Customize Artwork
* Pick art for logos, banners, and backgrounds

Recommended Decky plugins: * ProtonDB Badges
* How Long To Beat
* Is There Any Deal

===================== TROUBLESHOOT =======================

12. Troubleshooting Notes

Controller does not work * Disable Steam Input per game
* Confirm Proton GE is selected in Heroic

Game does not show up in Steam * Restart Steam or reboot
* Manual add always works

Heroic UI awkward to use * Use mouse or touchscreen
* Heroic is not a controller-native interface

Some games require different Proton builds * Edit game settings in Heroic
* Change to a different Wine version for that title

===================== QUICK SUMMARY ======================

13. Quick Summary

  1. Desktop Mode
  2. Install Heroic
  3. Log in
  4. Install GE Proton
  5. Configure auto add settings
  6. Install a game
  7. Add to Steam
  8. Disable Steam Input per game
  9. Launch and play

====================== CLOUD SAVES =======================

14. Heroic Cloud Saves (Dec 2025 status)

A lot of people ask how to make cloud saves work with Heroic on the Deck. Here’s an up to date version. Please test.

Does Heroic support cloud sync?
Yes. But it is not automatic for every game and only works if the store/platform supports cloud saves. Heroic has its own per-game cloud sync page, and you must turn it on manually.

How to enable cloud saves in Heroic 1. Launch the game once so Heroic generates save folders.
2. Open the game entry in Heroic and look for the Cloud Saves tab.
3. If the save path isn’t found, click Retry directory to rescan.
4. Once the save folder is detected, you can: 1. Upload local saves to cloud
2. Download cloud saves to the Deck
3. Enable auto-sync if offered

If the game supports Epic/GOG cloud saves, Heroic will sync them through the same service.

Limitations / Gotchas * Cloud sync only appears for games the store flags as cloud-compatible.
* Some titles misreport cloud status and won’t expose the tab.
* GOG cloud detection can be flaky for some games.
* If you installed the Linux/native version instead of Windows version, cloud support may not appear.
* Some titles simply do not support cloud saving.

Recommended workflow * Use Windows build if cloud saves matter.
* Launch once → then download cloud saves.
* After confirming, enable auto-sync.

When cloud sync won’t work Independent publisher clouds (Ubisoft, Rockstar, Larian, MMOs) will not sync through Heroic.

Workarounds * Ludusavi backups
* Syncthing
* Manual save copy

=================== LOSSLESS SCALING =====================

15. Lossless Scaling (lsfg) + Heroic + Steam Deck / Bazzite (Dec 2025)

Lossless Scaling does work with Heroic games on Steam Deck, SteamOS PCs, and Bazzite. The recommended 2025 method is to launch Heroic games through Steam and let the Decky lsfg plugin auto-hook the game.

Most confusion comes from mixing two different methods. This guide documents the default method only.

IMPORTANT FIRST READ (THIS ANSWERS MOST QUESTIONS)

If you are using the Decky lsfg plugin: • You DO NOT add any launch commands
• You DO NOT edit Steam launch options
• You DO NOT add ~/lsfg anywhere

If scaling works automatically, that is expected behavior.

Default Method (Recommended)

Requirements * Heroic installed
* Decky Loader installed
* Lossless Scaling / lsfg plugin installed
* Heroic game added to Steam as a Non-Steam game

Step by step 1. Open Gaming Mode
2. Press the Quick Access button (three dots)
3. Open Decky Loader
4. Open the Decky Store
5. Install Lossless Scaling / lsfg
6. Highlight your Heroic game
7. Open the lsfg plugin
8. Enable scaling
9. Launch the game

Common gotchas • Fullscreen exclusive breaks scaling → use borderless
• Game must launch from Steam
• Proton version does not affect lsfg

Advanced fallback (tinkerers only)
Manual Vulkan injection available if auto-hook fails. See steps above.

========================== HDR ===========================

16. Optional HDR with Heroic Games (Dec 2025)

HDR works by launching Heroic games through Steam using Gamescope HDR.

Using Linux Mint for Gaming for 6 months - The Good, Bad, and Ugly

Hey been using Linux Mint for some time and thought I'd throw some pro's and con's out there, mostly gaming related but with a few other notable things.
If you are on Linux and run into any issues related to the below send me a message. Otherwise I hope it helps you decide if you haven't switched.

The Good

  • Absolutely no issues when installing Linux on its own hard drive
  • Steam works flawlessly with the majority of games, maybe 20% needed launch options that can be found on protondb, the other 5% needed a little more work
  • Hardware worked out the box, I didn't have to install drivers manually like I expected
  • Not having bloatware is a huge positive, the whole OS just works faster
  • Updates can be done much quicker and easier than windows

The Bad

  • NTFS hard drives can be used, but I had to manually mount them in the terminal so I could access the games on steam, a lot of those games then didn't work when running off that hard drive. They can be moved over to your main drive easily though through steam, making migrating from windows fairly easy.
  • Discord screen sharing is a problem, I had to use a custom client (vencord) and install pipewire (Mint uses pulseaudio) otherwise your stream won't pick up sound. (Edit: They have now added audio to screen sharing) You also don't get badges on the taskbar (the red dot) like you do on windows
  • RTX doesn't work on Hitman 3, probably not on other games
  • Sometimes a game may not start and I'd need to add launch options, takes 30 seconds if you go to the ProtonDB website
  • Installing mods may require extra launch options (e.g. beppinEx for Lethal Company) which can take a bit more time to find while your friends wait for you (i.e. abuse you for not using windows)
  • Age of Empires worked fine until I tried multiplayer and kept de-syncing, required some troubleshooting and ended up downloading a random .dll file from the internet.
  • Epic games didn't work for me, there is a client called Heroic Games Launcher that is supposed to help by integrating Wine, but when I tried to use it with EU4 it didn't work (the only game I tried)
  • If your program crashes, force quitting can become a pain. On Windows I could use task manager to keep my programs in line, on Linux I believe you need to use terminal commands. Sometimes a program leaking memory like my 90 year old grandma would make me just restart the PC. (System Monitor does the same thing as task manager) thanks /u/Tagracat

The Ugly

  • The Adobe suite doesn't work on Linux, alternative FOSS software people talk about are not replacements if you use this software heavily.
  • Virtual Reality is a hot mess and is not going to support Linux any time soon, SteamVR worked but splurged errors everywhere, it also crashed every time I started Beatsaber, desktop view didn't work, front camera didn't work. I use an original HTC vive and apparently that is one of the few headsets supported on Linux (it's not) This is the only thing stopping me leaving windows behind forever.

The TLDR

  • Steam good
  • Epic games not good
  • Discord is rough around the edges
  • Adobe apps bad
  • Virtual Reality will save windows

Thanks for listening to my TED talk.

Bug🪳 AI doing some weird stuff

Been playing a ww2 preset and on turn 150 it started saying weird stuff like when you spam the recommended words when you're typing on a phone. The text was so long a screenshot wouldn't do it justice but here's what it said:

Another one that it did:

On the Zagros frontier, Iraqi expeditionary forces supported by Luftwaffe close-air support and a detachment of Gebirgsjäger launched an attack on Kermanshah. Provincial authorities, isolated since Tehran's military government fractured during previous Gestapo operations, offered only sporadic resistance. A coordinated airborne drop captured key bridge crossings north of the city before main columns arrived. By evening, Iraqi flags were raised over municipal buildings, officially marking this phase of the conquest complete. Organisation Todt engineers immediately began securing pipelines, prioritizing access to local hydroelectric capacity for integration into Iran's broader energy grid.

Idk why it started doing this and it's kinda freaking me out. Using Canopy Wave AI.

Any ideas what's causing this?

Release v0.6.3 - In-game Overlay

See it and try the overlay: tappstracker.com

Full changelog: https://tappstracker.com/changelog/

In-game overlay

A small always-on-top window beside Arena that shows the library the tracker knows and the odds of what you draw next. It is on from the first launch, docked to the left edge; turn it off from Settings → In-game overlay or the menu bar's Stop Overlay.

  • The rail. A slim strip docked to the left or right screen edge (or floating) with the app's card mark at the top and three cells — Turn, Land (the chance your next draw is a land) and Deck (cards left of the deck, with a bar that turns yellow once half the deck is gone and red under 15 cards) — plus an arrow that opens the panel and a ⚙ that opens the settings beside the rail, without unfolding the panel. When the tracker isn't reachable the card mark greys out and carries a warning badge with the reason. The card mark is a vector drawing, sharp at any size and display scale.
  • On, off, pinned. The arrow (or the hotkey) turns the panel on; its chevron turns it off; the pin holds it out. It starts pinned: an opened panel stays until you unpin it. Unpinned, the rail is the folded panel: hovering the rail unfolds it, and it folds back once the cursor has been off it for the return delay. Off, the rail is just a rail. All three are remembered game to game and across launches. Between games the panel folds away; a pinned one comes straight back when the next game starts.

  • Where it lives. Only while Arena is running, on Arena's screen — over a fullscreen Arena too on macOS — and it steps aside while Arena isn't the front window. Flush with t- From the tracker. The Settings page shows one card — Overlay is on / Overlay is off, one sentence, and a Turn on / Turn off button — over the hotkeys; off means nothing runs and nothing starts with the tracker until it is turned on again. The menu bar shows an Overlay: Running / Stopped line under the tracker's, with Start/Stop Overlay and Overlay Settings in their own section; the overlay adds no menu-bar icon of its own.

  • Works in every game, tracked or not. Jump In, Midweek Magic, Welcome Deck Duels and practice games against Sparky stay out of your stats as before, but the overlay follows them like any other game — the library and the odds are just as useful there. (The tracker's live row, which the overlay and the Live Scoreboard read, is kept current during those games; nothing from them is saved as history.)

  • What it reads and what it costs. A separate native app (Tauri v2, a Preact page, about 5 MB) shipped inside the tracker. It polls this tracker's local GET /api/overlay three times a second during a game and loads card images from Scryfall - Scry is tracked. Every scry is counted per seat — how many scries, how many cards they looked at, and how many went to the top vs the bottom — for both you and the opponent (Arena lists the card ids even when the opponent's cards stay hidden). The timeline line says what actually happened instead of a bare "scried": You: scried 2 — kept [Opt] on top, bottomed [Plains] (the opponent's reads scried 2 — 1 top, 1 bottom), with its own Scry badge in the game timeline and the Live Feed. The game page and the deck page get a Scry group in Combat & Resources, under Cards: Scried, Cards scried, Scried Top and Scried Bottom, the last two with their share of everything scried alongside ("1 (33%)"); Removal moves to lead the next column so the four columns stay close to even. Which cards were kept or bottomed is recorded per scry but not shown yet. Historical games get their scry count back from their timelines (the old lines carry no amounts, so their card totals stay blank). Surveil is not yet counted.

  • Recent Games, its Bo3 match rows, and Sessions load 30 rows instead of 25, so the tables' 15-a-page paging shows two full pages.

  • "Card #N" rows that never resolve. A draw could be recorded against an ability object standing in for the drawn card, so the deck stats kept a Card #1156-style row no card database could ever name, and Database Health flagged it forever as a manual UNKNOWN_CARD_LABEL. The draw is still counted but no longer recorded under a placeholder (a diagnostic line says what was seen), and the audit now asks Arena's card database whether N is a card at all: ids that are not become repairable, and db_audit --repair removes those rows. Placeholders for real cards the local database has not learned yet still heal themselves on a later launch.

  • A stray "OperationalError: unable to open database file" on the Live Scoreboard. A read-only open of the database can lose a race with the tracker's own WAL checkpoint, and a Mac app launched from Finder starts with only 256 open files for Qt, the dashboard's per-request connections and the browser's sockets to share — SQLite reports both as the same unhelpful message. Read-only opens now retry once, the app lifts its open-file limit at startup, and a failure that survives the retry is written to `data/logs/dashboard-erro- The packaged app's Deck Finder page was blank. The installed tracker did not carry the deck-site modules the Deck Finder loads at runtime (only the terminal Deck Finder analysis did), so the dashboard was offered no sites and drew an empty page. The installers now include them — the build refuses to package a tracker whose Deck Finder would have no sites — and if no site can be loaded the page says so, with the reason, instead of showing nothing.

  • Windows: the paths on the Settings page could not be opened. Log DB and the other paths hid the username as ~\AppData\..., which Explorer does not understand. They now read %USERPROFILE%\AppData\..., which still hides the username and pastes straight into Explorer's address bar or a Run box.

  • Windows: upgrading left old files in the install folder. The installer only ever added and replaced files, so a program an earlier version shipped and the new one does not — MTGA Deck Downloader.exe, now folded into the tracker — stayed behind, and so did anything stale in the bundled runtime folder. Setup now clears _internal and that executable before installing. Tracked games and- Fewer "unknown log entry" diagnostics. Arena's ordinary client chatter — its own requests (==> GetFormats …), the server's answers, scene changes, and the connection and startup notes — is now named for what it is instead of landing in mtga_tracker_unhandled_annotations.log and the raw-payload archive on every launch (dozens of entries per session, hundreds over a day of tab-switching). Nothing about tracking changes: every line was and is still processed; the diagnostic file now holds only things the tracker has genuinely never seen. The archive gets cleaned up too: a one-time pass drops the chatter already stored (then compacts the file), and from now on archived payloads are kept for 30 days — it is a diagnostics buffer, nothing reads it back after that.

  • tappstracker.com rebuilds itself whenever this changelog changes on main.

Docs

  • Plans for Linux support (Arena under Steam/Proton or Wine, phased so CI verifies it before a Linux desktop exists) and for scry/surveil tracking (the scry half is shipped above).

Installing

  • Windows: run MTGA-Tracker-0.6.3-setup.exe (or unzip the -windows.zip into a fresh folder for a portable run). The build is unsigned, so SmartScreen will warn — More info → Run anyway.
  • macOS: open the DMG and drag MTGA Tracker to Applications.
  • Your tracked games and settings live outside the install folder and carry over.

Release: https://github.com/pattont/MTGA-Tapps/releases/tag/v0.6.3 settings live outside the install folder and are untouched. (Unpacking the zip over an older extraction keeps old files the same way; unpack it into a fresh folder.)

Housekeeping

  • One executable. The Deck Finder terminal tool no longer ships as a second program (MTGA Deck Downloader) beside the tracker — on Windows that put two .exes at the top of the install folder, and a PyInstaller program cannot simply be moved into a subfolder the way the overlay's self-contained binary was. It is now a mode of the tracker itself: MTGA Tracker --deck-finder runs the same terminal UI, which is what the dashboard's Deck Finder page launches in a terminal window. The install folder is MTGA Tracker.exe plus _internal, and the download is a little smaller for not carrying the second copy.

rs.log` with the file, WAL and descriptor state that explains it.

  • Windows: the tray menu could hide Quit under the taskbar. A right-click on the tray icon opened the menu downward from a cursor at the very bottom of the screen. The menu now opens upward (and leftward at the right edge) whenever it would not fit.

  • A blank deck-art tile. The signature-card tile only showed its type-colored frame after both art requests had reported failure; a Scryfall image request that stalls or answers 503 without the browser ever raising an error left an empty box with no art and no frame. The frame is now the tile's base layer and the art fades in over it once it has actually loaded; a request that has neither loaded nor failed after six seconds is treated as failed and the by-name fallback is tried.

  • Wins vs Losses on the Overview gets an Avg Game Time column, and its blurb (and the empty-state notes on the game and deck pages) no longer talk about "telemetry" or what early tracker versions did not record.

  • The Deck AI description on the Settings page is three sentences instead of a wall.

Fixes

  • The Live Scoreboard lost the previous game at midnight. Its "today's games" list went by calendar day, so a game played at 23:58 had no outcome and no record at 00:05 and the Previous Game chip went blank. The list now also carries the current tracker session's games and always the most recent finished game.

on hover — nothing else, and never the game itself. An unchanged poll is one indexed read on a kept-open connection (about 0.05 ms); the tracker reads Arena's log four times a second and a check with nothing new costs about 0.01 ms.

  • Building from source needs Rust: scripts/build_overlay.sh (or .ps1); --fast makes an incremental iteration build in seconds. Release builds include the overlay.

  • GET /api/overlay: the library the tracker knows (deck minus what has left it, from the kept opening hand on), per-card hypergeometric odds, land-drop odds, format, opponent, turn, play/draw and the head-to-head record — with an ETag so unchanged states answer 304.

New

he screen edge, with a few pixels of plain ground between the text and the edge; drag it up or down the edge and it snaps back flush the moment you let go. Windows: exclusive-fullscreen covers every overlay; use windowed or borderless.

  • Look and settings (the ⚙ menu, which opens beside the panel or the rail — never over the decklist): a charcoal tint with hairlines between rows and no box border. Scale from 50 % to 200 %; Rail opacity (default 90 %) and Panel opacity (default 80 %), which drive only the tint — text is always solid; Max panel height in pixels (default 800, always capped by the screen; the list scrolls inside); dock; click-through; density; the hotkeys — Alt+Shift+T / ⌥⇧T toggles the panel, Alt+Shift+H / ⌥⇧H hides the overlay — and a Restore defaults button that puts every preference back (the window's position and the panel's on/pinned state stay).

  • The panel. The full decklist, one row per card: name over mana cost on the left, copies left over next-draw odds centred in a darker band on the right. Hover a row for the card itself, beside the panel and nearly the width of the gutter, with the odds of drawing it next, within 2 and within 3 under the image; the row lights up while the cursor is on it and the card goes the moment it leaves — no clicking (the overlay never takes focus, so the shell watches the real cursor and tells the page where it is). Lands fold into one row that opens to indented Basic / Nonbasic rows; in Brawl, drawn singletons collapse into a Drawn group; a Sideboard row lists what is boarded. Above the list: land-drop odds for the next one, two and three draws, and a Play/Draw pill. Sort by odds, mana value or name; toggle card names in their color. Odds are whole percentages. The final library stays up through Arena's results screen, marked FINAL, and clears when you leave it.

Support Decky Loader not working

Hi, I was using Deck Mode on Nobara when I noticed that Decky Loader was disabled. I tried reinstalling it, but it only works in Big Picture mode on Desktop Mode. When I enter Gaming Mode, the Decky section doesn’t appear.

Any solution?

Kingmaker : Mods Can't use mods and controller on Steam Deck

I'm trying to set up mods with PKM via Unity Mod Manager on my Steam Deck and I'm super frustrated. I've searched through the subreddit here, but haven't had any luck - namely these 3 threads: 1, 2, 3

My setup is that I'm hooked up to my tv via a Genki Covert Dock with a Logitech usb keyboard/trackpad and an Xbox One controller. I'm running a pretty stock SD OLED with just Decky plugin for SteamDB badge integration, so i feel like this shouldn't be too much work.

I've installed UMM via desktop mode and I've limited my mods for the time being to only Bag of Tricks to simplify troubleshooting.

My problem is that no matter how I set up compatibility mode, Bag of Tricks won't launch except in one configuration - and in that configuration, Pathfinder won't recognize that I have an Xbox Controller attached and just uses Keyboard and Mouse which I don't want. Except in that mode, the mod does not launch automatically and CTRL+F10 does not bring it up. It works normally in that mode.

I've tried switching steam to use to console.exe instead of unitymodmanager.exe, but the console version of it doesn't seem to make a difference. Also, I assume you have to use the regular version to install the mods, then switch to use the console version before you launch the game?

Are there any logs for UMM that might say why this isn't launching? I'm not getting any errors and I can switch back and forth between the game and UMM using the Steam button/Xbox button. Does anyone have any known working configs that they can share? What versions?

I've probably tried more than this (installing and reinstalling nearly a dozen times at this point), but I can vouch for the below configurations for sure.

Bungie // Bungie Replied Destiny 2 Update 9.7.0

2.7k Upvotes

Source: https://www.bungie.net/7/en/News/Article/destiny_update_9_7_0

Before we dig into our final slate of patch notes (which is over 17,000 words...), a message from the Destiny 2 Dev Team:

Hey, all. Welcome to our final patch notes article for Destiny 2. Well, that's a bit of a fib. We'll still have a few maintenance patches and smaller hotfixes after today... but this is our final major patch for Destiny 2.

It's been an incredible ride. Thousands of patch notes shipped. A ridiculous amount of bugs squashed (released AND unreleased). Hundreds of typos fixed after publish (our bad...). Countless hours in triage meetings looking to do what's best by our players. Years of overnight shifts in the BNOC (formerly DOC). All for you.

There were a few things that were unrelated... like emails about snacks missing from the studio kitchen or messages to our IT team apologizing for forgetting our passwords for the fifth time in a calendar year, but that's beside the point.

Thank you for showing up with each release. Thank you for kicking down the doors and putting the servers under stress. Thank you for every bug uncovered and reported. Thank you for your patience (even if it was sometimes thin) while we dug into connection issues, crashing bugs, anteaters, weasels, guitars, or other hiccups along the way. Destiny wouldn't be what it is without every single one of you, and we will forever be grateful for your time.

We hope you enjoy Monument of Triumph and we'll see you out there in the wilds.

Dungeons

Prophecy

  • Fixed an issue where Kell Echo would not vanish before first encounter.

Grasp of Avarice

  • Fixed areas where death would cause player ghosts to be placed in inaccessible areas preventing revive by a fireteam member.

Ops Categories

The Portal screen has been deprecated. Ops now live at the bottom of the Director.

Fireteam Ops

  • Added Heist Battleground: Mars, The Disgraced, The Lightblade, The Scarlet Keep, Lake of Shadows, and The Corrupted.
  • The Dark Fetor debuff in Defiant Battleground EDZ: icon corrected to be... a debuff icon.
  • Reduced the damage of Vex Laser traps in Battleground Heist: Mars and Operation: Seraph's Shield.
    • They now deal the same damage that they would have for someone with full seasonal upgrades.
  • Fixed a spot in the Inverted Spire where players could get stuck in geometry near the beginning of the activity.
  • Fixed an issue in Reclaim where the Imminent Vex Subjugation Timer would not always clear after completing the area.
  • Fixed an issue in Reclaim where Vex Cubes could spawn in a different location than their associated protective bubble.
  • Taken blight pools are less lethal in The Corrupted at higher difficulties.
  • Lingering fire pools from Bracus Zahn's melee attacks in the Arms Dealer are less lethal at higher difficulties.
  • Fixed an issue in Battleground: Behemoth where the Imperial Access Code pickup was not showing up properly in the HUD.

Pinnacle Ops

  • With the addition of Tiered rewards in dungeons, dungeon lairs have been deprecated from Pinnacle Ops.
  • Added The Whisper and Zero Hour. Their Exotic rewards are now awarded on activity completion like other Exotic missions in Pinnacle Ops.
    • Their secrets are still completable for the associated Triumphs.
    • The quests associated with these missions have been deprecated.
  • Added a mid-activity loot chest to Zero Hour.
  • Contest of Elders is now complete after three "laps", down from four.
  • //node.ovrd.AVALON//: Moved the Data Collection buff to the top of the HUD.

  • Kells' Fall: Fixed an issue where Champions were not spawning properly during the Mad Bomber encounter.
  • Contest of Elders: Bonus Objectives during traversals should now trigger more consistently and provide another source of revive tokens.
  • Onslaught: White shields on Shielded Demolitionist, Shielded Knight, and Shielded Skybomber take less damage to break in higher difficulties.
  • Onslaught: Tripled the base health of the ADU.
  • Onslaught: Updated Scrap starting amount and earn rates to account for shorter activity length.
  • Onslaught: Added reprised Into the Light rewards to mid activity and activity complete chests.
  • The Coil and Contest of Elders: Added reprised World Pool rewards to mid-activity and activity complete chests.

  • Override: Vex laser traps are now less lethal.
  • Astral Alignment: Fixed an issue where abominations' shields may not be removed upon objective completion.
  • Astral Alignment: Moved the exhausted debuff to the top of the HUD.

Solo Ops

  • Solo Ops Bonus Objectives are now all generic kill based rather than precision/ability/etc.
  • Destroying all drones in a Solo Ops activity will now properly award bonus points.
  • Fixed an issue in Caldera Solo Ops where enemies could unintentionally stop spawning early.

Exotic Rotator

  • Since most of the missions in the Exotic Rotator have already been added to Pinnacle Ops, we have decided to deprecate the Rotator in favor of the Pinnacle Ops versions.
    • Operation: Seraph’s Shield has been moved into Pinnacle Ops along with its associated weapon/Catalyst/Intrinsic rewards.
  • Exotic Rotator missions that had seasonal gear rewards for owners of the associated Season Pass/Deluxe Edition are now available via the Classic Collector modifier on the Pinnacle Ops versions.

Activity Scoring Simplification

  • Complexity removed from scoring bonuses:
    • Removed Power as a source of score bonuses.
    • Removed season pass as a source of score bonuses.
    • Net result: Everyone in the fireteam will get the same score. Fight as one, Guardians.
  • Converted score bonuses to flat bonuses:
    • Difficulty now gives a flat score bonus.
    • Modifiers now give a flat score bonus per "triangle".
  • Grade targets are fixed and no longer scale with player Power.
  • Difficulty = Grade = Reward Tier
    • Each difficulty will now grant enough flat bonus to hit a reward grade without player modification, assuming a normal volume of kills and objective completion.
    • Normal = B
    • Advanced = B+
    • Expert = A
    • Master = A+
    • Grand Master = S
    • Ultimate = S+
    • Each reward grade grants a fixed tier of rewards (primes are still +1).
    • B = Tier 1
    • B+ = Tier 2
    • A = Tier 3
    • A+ = Tier 4
    • S = Tier 5
    • S+ = Tier 5
    • No player selected modifiers are pre-slotted when selecting a difficulty.
    • Each difficulty will have enough player selectable modifications to rank up at least one reward grade, and therefore reward tier.
  • Rank Up button
    • A "rank up" button has been implemented that selects random mods to bump players up one grade, for those times when you want a surprise.
    • A "reset" button will remove selected mods.
  • Matchmaking and scores
    • Matchmade versions of Ops will automatically have a few modifiers applied.
    • Fireteams can rank up their reward grade through time bonuses.
  • Added a time bonus to all matchmade difficulty tiers.
  • With these adjustments, players can now play Expert, Master, and Grandmaster and potentially reach a higher reward rank, but they’ll need to beat the target time with max score and at least one second remaining.

    • Investing your Grenade stat higher than 100 will still increase moth grenade damage.
  • This Exotic is now a conditional grenade override instead of a complete override, meaning it functions more like Gunpowder Gamble.

No Backup Plans

  • Now triggers and benefits from both Shotgun and melee final blows.

  • Shotgun or melee final blows extend the timer of any active defensive buffs on you.
    • This includes Void Overshield, Restoration, Amplified, Frost Armor, and Woven Mail.

  • The damage bonus is now active when you have any of the above noted defensive debuffs.

  • Now grants bonus Stasis Lance damage based on your current stacks of Frost Armor.

Point Contact Cannon Brace

  • Lightning strike damage now scales further based on how long Thunderclap is charged for, up to 2x.
    • This stacks with the bonus damage from casting while amplified.
  • Activating Thunderclap also releases lightning strikes as you start winding up the punch.
  • Reworked melee regen from lightning strike kills to compensate for the new wave of bolts on charge up.
    • No longer target tiered. Flat amount has been increased to compensate.
    • Should see larger energy returns on average.

  • Reduced the kill requirements for weaker enemies from 13 to 10.
  • Reduced the kill requirements for powerful enemies from seven to four.
  • The buff bar now displays in segments to more easily track the perk's progress.
  • To reduce instances of accidently triggering the blast, the following changes were made:
    • Explosions created by explosive perk kills (ie: Dragonfly, Firefly) no longer trigger the blast.
    • Explosions created by passive explosive perks (ie: Explosive Payload, Explosive Head) still trigger the blast.
    • A small delay has been added after each explosive kill to prevent cases where the blast wave is triggered on the same kill that fills the buff bar to 100% if that

Found something cool at a local dealership. This new GTI with a GTE badge mistakenly placed on the back. Funny error that even the dealership doesn't know. For those who don't know, the GTE is a hybrid gold sold in European markets. Whoever buys this should keep that badge on

Link if you wanna check it out: https://www.lhmvw.com/new/Volkswagen/2025-Volkswagen-Golf-GTI--58c8a80fac185d30d0b35d0fda114bc6.htm

Curious if this highlights some new vw qc issues? My mk8 has been fine but anyone have any mistakes like this with theirs?

Super MAGFest pre-registration is postponed to tomorrow, Sept. 17 at 7pm ET. Despite our scale testing, our systems experienced a significant error that prevented anyone from purchasing a badge.

Steam General Sale FAQ

Q: When does the sale end?

A: The 2024 Steam Summer Sale ends on 2024 July 11th @ 10AM PST. Click here to convert it to your time.

Q: Why are my downloads so slow?

A: There is severe load on Steams servers, both store and content servers. Just give it some time, and try again later. Also, don't forget to check the server status on the sidebar. If you're having these issues at the very start or very end of the sale it is par for the course as the store and product pages are transitioning over for the sale, and as the servers are being bombarded by loads and requests by users. Try to clear the download cache.

If you consistently have issues please post in the support thread or use this Steam Guide for information and as a troubleshooting tool.

Q: The store doesn't load, only my library works, images are broken, weird blue text, etc

A: The store not loading at the start and end of the sale is normal, and relatively slower load times is also normal, but if this is consistently happening try to clear the Steam browser cache and cookies.

A friend [29M] has made a serious accusation against my [27M] girlfriend [26F]

TRIGGER WARNING: obsessive behavior

MOOD SPOILER: Batshit insanity

Original Post - rareddit Apr 27, 2019

I don't know what to think. The situation is that a buddy I've known for a few years who is dating another friend of mine has informed me that my girlfriend that I've known for 8 months is lying about her occupation. He is an EMT and she claims to be a nurse at a certain hospital in our city. EMT buddy swears up and down there is no way she works there.

This is really shocking to me. She's in scrubs all of the time, I've picked her up from the hospital she claims to work at, she has medical books all over her apartment etcetera.

EMT buddy and my girlfriend have only met once on a double date with my other friend. They did talk shop a little bit and he's basing this accusation on that one conversation. He told me he would bet money she had never stepped foot on the ward she claims to work in. For reference, she says she's a psych nurse at this prestigious hospital and EMT buddy asked her which unit she worked on. Apparently there are two at this hospital, the "East" and "West" unit. He tested her by asking "do you work on "North" or "south" and she said, "north" and that she referred to patients being violent as a "code grey" and that is not the terminology used at that hospital. There were more small, technical details he claimed she got wrong like their nurse's stations being open and not enclosed spaces. Things like that.

On one hand, why would she lie about being a nurse? But also what does he gain from lying about her lying about being a nurse? I don't know jack about the medical profession, to be frank. This whole thing makes me feel crazy.

How do I even bring this up?

TLDR EMT friend has called out my girlfriend as pretending to be a nurse.

You can easily look up her license status by googling Nursing license verification in your state, then simply enter her name. It will tell you what kind of license she has and how long she's been licensed in your state. If she doesn't hold a license, you have a starting point for conversation. Many people who work in healthcare facilities wear scrubs - it doesn't mean they have any direct care responsibilities. Also, she would be required to have a photo ID with her credentials listed on it. You can settle the question by asking to see her name badge.

notthatplatypus

This is exactly it. I’m literally looking up my nursing professors now, and I can find all of their licenses.

Also, how has she said that she’s gotten her nursing degree? Did she do a bachelor’s program or an associate’s? Like, you should be able to ask to ‘see’ her degree, and she should have a copy.

You could also ask to see her graduation pin! Nurses go through a pinning ceremony at the end of their time in school, and most people keep their pins.

I think she’s lying to you because she sees “prestige” in being a nurse. Nurses are considered the most trusted professionals in the US. you’ve definitely seen those sappy bumper stickers and memes about how nurses are angels. We all have.

She will 100% try to tell you that that phone call today led to you not finding her because of privacy regulations(she may even say it’s “because of HIPAA”). Ask to see her badge. Ask for her license number. If she tries to claim that she doesn’t have these things, she’s making excuses. Your badge literally taps you in to different hospital wings and elevators, and some places even let you use yours to tap into the charting system.

OOP

She told me she has a BSN. I can't find that she's licensed in our state.

notthatplatypus

Edit to add more, because I can't seem to shut up today: I looked up some of my classmates on the state registry who are working as CNA's or MA's, and their license info isn't showing up. I wouldn't doubt that if you've picked her up from work and she DOES ACTUALLY WORK THERE, she's a tech or something, and was lying to seem prestigious.

OOP

Ooh, she talks so much shit about techs. I think she'd rather die than cop to being a tech.

notthatplatypus

What kind of medical books does she have in her house? Like, Gray's Anatomy, or like, "Honan Focus on Adult Health: Medical-Surgical Nursing 2nd Edition"? Are they books to make her look fancy, or books she may have used in school? "Medical Books" is pretty generic.

OOP

Well she has a bunch of them. I know she has a DSM and Physician's Desk reference. I reckon she reads them a lot because those are always on the coffee table. She has a whole book shelf full of books about diseases and medications.

~

skittlesNwhiskey289

Call when she's supposed to be working and ask for her. If she works there, shell answer and you can bring her food or coffee or something. If she doesn't theres a communication error in your relationship that need to be addressed. I wouldnt 100% be positive on your friends knowledge due to the differences in their roles/jobs.

OOP

She's supposed to be working right now until 7. I'm going to call. Thanks.

skittlesNwhiskey289

Be prepared to buy her that coffee if shes working lol wishing yall the best Ps:we want an update

OOP

Well, I called up there and at first they thought I was asking about a patient and said they couldn't talk about them without their code and I said no she works there and the woman I spoke with said no one with that name works there. I asked about the other unit and she told me she knows everyone who works in psych. I thought maybe she goes by a different name, so I started to describe her and the lady got upset and told me she had to go. I guess she thought I was fucking with her. I don't know what to think.

Wanderinground

Damn.. that's going to be a hard conversation. Be prepared to get backlash and redirection, stick to the point, she's lying and for what reason. It sounds like the end of a relationship. Can you imagine what would have happened if there was a genuine medical emergency, a very scary thought.

OOP

I don't understand why someone would go through so much effort to lie about being a nurse, if she is lying about it. I'm going to hold off on any judgment until I talk to her in person

OOP Update the original post next day/Apr 28, 2019

UPDATE: Well this chick is batshit insane. Mystery solved. She doesn't work at the nice hospital, she works at a not so nice hospital and not as a nurse but as a phlebotomy technician or whatever the fuck. She failed out of nursing school and is seriously obsessed. She said she got a TBI her third year into her bachelors program and was unable to finish. I may have forgiven all of that but it's clear she has a tenuous, at BEST, grasp on reality and went on a bizarre rant about how she could be a doctor, how she saves lives, she's a genius; she knows more than anyone in the world when it comes to the medical field, she claimed she could perform surgery on people, that she had healing powers, that she's the greatest person in the world, just on and on... seriously unhinged type shit. I had to tap out because she was really scaring me.

I've never been in such close proximity to someone having a mental breakdown. I wasnt supposed to see her until yesterday and I ambushed her at her apartment. Finally I just had to leave. I feel bad about confronting her. I probably shouldn't have left her alone at all after that.

AITA for contacting my ex girlfriend's estranged relatives to handle her? May 3, 2019

This is a really long story that I must condense for character limit. I hope the sense of it all is intact.

My ex girlfriend deceived me for our entire relationship. She told me she was a very important charge nurse with a BSN and worked at a prestigious hospital in our area. Here in reality she is not a nurse at all but a phlebotomy technician and not at a prestigious hospital either.

She had a total breakdown when I confronted her about all of this and ended up getting put on an involuntary psych hold. I do not know how she did it, but she got herself released after only 2 days and is completely off the rails. She broke into my house. I came home from work the other day and she was in my shower. Not taking a shower, just chilling in there with my cat. It really fucking freaked me out. She ran off before the cops came. They couldn't find her.

She moved here a few months before we started dating and I didn't know any of her family. After she broke into my house, I did some internet sleuthing and tracked down her parents and older brother. I was able to make contact with her mom because they have a landline with a listed number. I told her the situation. I gave her all of the information I knew about my ex. Her mom thanked me very much. Apparently my ex went ghost on her family about a year ago. Her mom told me they would take care of it and just wanted her to come back home.

Her brother called me very frantic shortly after I got off the phone with their mom and I talked to him for awhile. He said he was flying out first thing to hunt my ex down. That was yesterday. I was satisfied and relieved with the response.

I spoke to some friends today about it and they think I did too much and shouldn't have involved her family because I don't know the dynamic. They could be abusive and got ghosted for good reason my good friend said. Honestly, I didn't think about that at the time and now I feel shitty.

VERDICT: NOT THE ASSHOLE

Quidamtyra

Is your cat okay? I don't want to freak you out anymore than you already are, but you might consider a visit to the vet to make sure she didn't poison your cat, or harm it in any other way.

OOP

Thank you for your concern. He seems fine. My ex always loved him and I never thought she was capable of hurting an animal, but then I never thought she'd lie to me for 8 months or break into my house... so yeah, I'll take him to the vet. Good looking out

~

Sam4891

The odds are her family knows best how to help her, and it’s in her best interest they know. You have no knowledge of any abuse so while it’s possible it’s not on you. You made the best call you could with the information you had for both her and your safety.

OOP

Her mom and brother seemed like decent people on the phone but on the other hand, no one ghosts their entire family for a year for no reason. They said she ran off right at the beginning of '18 and no one had heard from her since.

~

perpetualwindowpane

NTA

It sounds like this girl needs far more help than you can give her. Based on your verbiage, you found out from the mother that she’s been estranged from her family for a year; it’s not your responsibility to take strange hypothetical things into account, before considering your own safety.

If someone broke into my house and was handling my animals, I’d do whatever I could to ensure it wouldn’t happen again.

OOP

My friends told me I should have let the police handle it as that's their job. They think by doing what I did I made the situation worse if she turns out to not be on good terms her own family. Not just for her, but they are worried she could retaliate against me for doing that.

OOP On how she broke in

Well I live in a pretty good area. I don't use the deadbolt. Either she had a key to my place that I didn't know about or she picked the lock somehow.

If someone adds you as a friend and sends you a website or says they are from Steam/Valve or says you've been reported, they need to check your items, etc: block and report them, it is a scam. Steam General Sale FAQ

Q: When does the sale end?

A: The 2025 Steam Autumn Sale ends on 2025 October 6th @ 10AM PST. Click here to convert it to your time.

Q: I'm new to Steam! Where do I begin?

A: Welcome! Please read the Welcome to Steam page in our Wiki. You can also scroll down on the Steam About page for some information about Steam and its features, and to download the Steam client.

Q: Why are my downloads so slow?

A: There is severe load on Steams servers, both store and content servers. Just give it some time, and try again later. Check the server status on the sidebar. If you're having these issues at the very start or very end of the sale it is par for the course as the store and product pages are transitioning over for the sale, and as the servers are being bombarded by loads and requests by users. Try to clear the download cache first.

If this doesn't work you can post in the support thread or use this Steam Guide for information and as a troubleshooting tool.

Q: Are the prices consistent throughout the sale?

A: Yes, sale prices will remain the same throughout the sale. Discounts are only changed or added if there was an error.

Q: Can I share games that I bought with my household?

A: Yes, you can do this through Steam Families. Keep in mind that games that you have bought are tied to your account. They cannot be transferred or exchanged between accounts.

You may also want to check out Steam Remote Play and Steam Remote Play Together.

To refund a game you cannot have more than 2 hours of playtime in it, and you cannot have owned it for longer than 14 days.

Reddit AI Detectives Lose Their Badges Over the Latest It’s Always Sunny Promo Poster in r/IASIP

The Context

It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia is the longest-running American live-action sitcom and is coming up on its 18th season. The show's white-trash dark humor has been described as "Seinfeld on crack." It's rumored that this upcoming season could be their last.

Each year, the gang releases a promo poster for the upcoming season that serves as a visual joke about the show's identity. The promo artwork deliberately uses hyper-stylized, high-concept themes that contradict the show's gritty reality.

The Posts

Season 18's poster came out yesterday and features the cast as strange-looking beer tap handles, and the Reddit detectives went into a frenzy declaring the poster (and subsequent season) as AI slop. (The word "slop" is actually found nearly 100 times in the comments)

A similar controversy arose over Season 17's poster until the artist came forward and explained that their style deliberately uses harsh light and highly saturated colors, but some fans still accuse them of using AI.

It was the same for this season's poster, as the show has since posted 3D renders of the taps, showing they were all manually created and not AI-generated.

The Comments

Most people are really upset

This poster killed all excitement I had for the new season

when you find out your goat washed :(

They been washed for years

Very unpopular thing to be saying here, but yeah I agree, haven't thoroughly enjoyed a new episode in quite a while

I call it like I see it. Been watching this show since recording season 2 on vhs tapes in high school. It’s a shell of itself now and only the turbo glazers here on this sub would deny that

Everything is too bright and clean now and doesn't help when 3 of the 5 cast members look all weird with their plastic surgery

Well, shit. That just killed all my hype.

It makes you wonder if the scripts were made by AI too

Doesn't make me wonder that at all since the marketing team for FX/Hulu is completely separate from the production team of iasip

So if the poster was good you would know the season is good? Kinda crazy to put all your hype onto the status of a season poster.

It’s AI slop

This could be AI, but also it probably isn’t so people need to stop lighting their torches so readily every time they make an assumption.

It's clearly AI

It’s not “clearly AI”, when you look at small details they are precise in a way AI art just isn’t. For example the lines on the spouts are all identical, and AI images will never have identical objects like that because it doesn’t understand what it’s making in the same way.

You have a bad understanding of AI and how it is used

Prove it

Use your eyes

Their commitment to making the show as cheap as possible is less charming when it involves using "AI".

Though using AI to not pay someone is exactly what the gang would try to do, but I expect their results to be horrendous.

What an insignificant corner to cut. Getting a decent artist would be a rounding error compared to Divito's salary.

Fuck, they could've even gotten free publicity by having a contest to design the poster.

AI is turning executives brains into oatmeal.

Fully agree

What makes the gang funny is that they’re all fictional. It’s not enjoyable when their antics cross over into the real world.

God they have the money to support real artists and they choose this…really disappointing. This could of been a cool concept

Has this not been commissioned to an actual artist, told to make it look like AI? Seems like it to me, every tap at the bottom is identical to each other, like they've been copied and pasted

That would be weird to commission an artist to make something look AI, right? AI is getting pretty good, the tap is something it could easily do.

Looks like AI. Really need a confirmation they didn’t use AI for this…because that’s super disappointing

AI slop comes for us all

Seriously AI?? trash

What a disappointing poster. If this is the effort they’re putting in to advertise, I’m not excited for this season.

I’ve seen way too many people defending the poster as “they’re satirizing ai” or whatever and that’s just so lame and disingenuous. We like to think of them and their writers as always being very progressive and pushing very topical issues, but they’ve also shown in the past few years specifically that as they grew older, richer, and more famous that they increasing became more and more out of touch. They 100% would use ai and not even think about it.

The beer tap concept is perfect for this show, pity the execution looks like someone typed "IASIP characters as beer taps" into an AI and went for lunch. Charlie's rat tap is the only one that feels intentional, the rest just look like uncanny valley versions of the cast. Would've loved to see what a proper illustrator did with this, could've really brewed up something special.

AI Slop

It's definitely AI Slop and I.... sigh, tired man. I'm tired.

I don’t wanna believe it but there’s no way this isn’t AI slop…

Just got back from a vacation and the amount of AI slop like this was insane. It’s everywhere and it doesn’t seem to be stopping or going away anytime time soon sadly. Pretty bleak times but that just means we have to praise and reward when real artists get used more and more when we can

It’s ruined mom and pop businesses and swap meets. Those are the ones flooded with AI slop

Disappointed in the gang to use AI. Not like they can’t hire someone to do the poster. Cmon!

An egregious display of AI. This doesn't even look like Kaitlin Olson.

I believe that’s the joke

Are artists too expensive or something? It's just a bit funny when artists themselves use AI art.

Ripe Biceps Stout? What the hell?

some intern mistyped 'ripped' into the AI prompt and none of the industry 'professionals' gave enough of a shit to even notice

Even the grammar is bad.

Shit’s not even a pun or anything. Not funny in the slightest. The fall off is wild

Now I know for a fact that they didn't make Dee look different as an artistic choice to play on how she sees herself. It's just AI doing AI and making her look like any other anime gal. IASIP, do not, stop, and thank you.

Sad to see an original show, that helped so many launch successful careers (behind and in front of the camera) use AI. The posters were also fun and creative. I’m sure we will hear from “Rob Mac” about embracing AI any second now…to hell with other artists trying to live! The gang made their money, now they are working on keeping every penny!

This perfectly encapsulates the shittification of the show.

The posters were always an iconic part of the season. Now we are left with this junk. Sad… especially for this being potentially the final season.

season posters reduced to ai slop

Considering how lazy the show has been since season 13, that tracks.

It would have been interesting if they steered into the AI slop issue and made the poster look all janky. Like, if it was more obviously bad AI with like six fingered hands and other things AI get's wrong. It could have been a nice commentary actually.

This could’ve been cool if done by an actual artist. Looks like shit

Yeah it's not like they don't have the money to pay for this shit to be done properly. This is cheeks.

A few people caught on and braved the downvotes

I guarantee they're doing an AI episode, and this is intentional. And it's working. Lol.

I don't know what some people are talking about but this is definitely intentionally done. They probably told the artist to design it like a shitty AI ad. (which is hilarious)

This doesn’t look like AI to me

This is not ai. None of yall know what you’re talking about

Surprised to see so many stupid science bitches taking the bait. They’re definitely doing a bit.

Editor's note: "Science Bitches" is a tongue-in-cheek reference to an Episode from Season 9

yall fr too dumb to realize that the art style intentionally looks ai ? Social commentary has always been the foundation of the show, your reaction is showing why it’s so perfect

The season is obviously going to address ai you no satire getting jabronis. The season is obviously going to address ai you no satire getting jabronis.

A show on its 17th season could afford to dig up Michelangelo and have his bones do the poster. Pretty sure they didn’t randomly do ai for no reason.

Editor's note: You keep on using this word "jabroni" and... it's awesome.

pretty sure it’s not ai, last time they got accused of it it wasn’t ai either..

This is definitely AI and the one last season was too (the artist just lied about it). Sure a graphic designer may have been involved in tweaking the outputs or whatever, but this is A.I. slop.

the artist even showed her process last time because of ignorant people like you..

she's a shit artist then.

then why design it to look bad/like ai?

sometimes art is just bad, ai or not

we're not discussing skill level we're talking about specific stylistic trappings, that stuff doesn't come from nowhere

It’s so blatantly AI that it has to be part of the bit.

You truly underestimate the drive to force the normalization of ai, as well as the appeal cutting costs have to execs regardless of the cultural impact and fan response.

a staggering amount of older people are genuinely unable to see how dogshit ai images look. there is every possibility that nobody involved can even see how awful this poster looks

Knowing the show, I'm gonna guess they are aware(if they made it)that it looks like AI slop.

Knowing these guys, I'm gonna guess they're out of touch with the hate for AI

Yeah, the optimism is nice but a tad delusional. Especially with Rob, who has been floating further and further out of touch day by day

An interesting camp of people think it's AI, but they like it

ITT : plebs crying about AI

I don’t have any issues with the poster, even if it is AI. Pumped for the new season!

Why does it matter? Complaining about AI has become the new virtue signaling. It's the least thought provoking criticism and gets the most amount of positive feedback. I dunno I just don't really care about AI. Seems like a big circle jerk to bash it.

There are too many comments to properly showcase all of them; check out the original post to see Reddit detectives at their finest.

Official Bloons TD 6 v57.0 - Update Notes!

Available now for most platforms, please restart your storefront or be patient if it does not appear for you, these updates can take some time to be rolled out to every region due to how the storefronts are set up.
Update Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bhWCA0F8JEQ

Core Features

New Paragon, you asked for it, the Sniper Monkey Paragon!

  • This paragon posed interesting design challenges as completely bottlenecking Bloons at the entrance really doesn’t look cool, and if any tower is going to claim this title then Sniper should be THE single-target king. We’ve built something pretty awesome with its own fully automated barrage of Cash Drops, Intel from up high, slow high-damage attacks with conditional rate scaling, a temporary AoE buff ability for groups, and of course the big single-target pew pew.
  • Sitting atop a high watchtower with an unobstructed view, the paragon relays a view of the battlefield to other snipers through Elite Targeting. Other snipers can be set to follow command, focusing on the Paragon’s primary target, or left to fire independently.
  • Its main attack fires a powerful heavy-caliber shot that bounces to an extra target, with a slow rate that ramps up as Bloons approach the exit, and even faster while maintaining consecutive shots against the same target. On impact, shrapnel sprays outward and after a short delay whizzes toward nearby Bloons to explode and trim down large groups.
  • Speaking of shrapnel, this Paragon arrives alongside an upgrade to the T4 Supply Drop. This isn’t a crazy change as we’re quite happy with the upgrade, however they gain added purpose even in CHIMPS mode now by activating Offensive Supply Drop. This ability upgrades the next few attacks with fiery shrapnel that pierces more, damages more, lasts longer, and can pop all Bloon types. Both abilities on the sniper will share the same cooldown, so a toggle will swap between Classic or Offensive Supply Drop.
  • Ability 1 takes the new Offensive Supply Drop to a higher level, lasting without the limited shot count and supercharging nearby Shrapnel snipers. This provides a much needed AoE burst safety net for more dense Bloon rushes.
  • Ability 2 is no-nonsense target execution. This ability will focus in, lock onto the strongest Bloon on screen and charge up a powerful shot that grows in damage the longer it charges, then release a terrifying blast once enough power has been charged to break through to the next Boss Skull or annihilate the target in a single shot.

Insta Monkeys v2!

We’ve been wanting to update how Insta Monkeys are collected for the longest time, and while as card game players we love the idea of opening blind packs, world governments do not all agree about randoms for purchase. We understand and appreciate the intent behind growing regulations, but more importantly this shift offered us an excuse to improve the game for our own players by sprucing up and expanding the Insta-Monkey collection loop. This v2 Insta system provides more reliability for filling out your individual collections and combines that with paced global drops that the community can talk about.

  • All randomized insta-monkey IAP packs have been removed from the store.
  • A brand new icon and a fresh coat of paint for the ‘Instas + Powers’ menu
  • The Insta-Monkeys tab no longer looks so out of place, more cleanly fitting in this menu
  • Worst offenders for incorrect/outdated Insta Monkey icon art have been updated
  • Monkey Teams: Successfully beating round 100 without breaking a Monkey Team will attempt to roll one of the three monkeys from that team as the r100 Insta Reward.
  • Oh, also Sun Temple instas now place down with $40,001 in all sacrifice categories, for True Sun God instas Support is the only sacrifice category not doubled up on.
  • The Instas + Powers’ menu gains a new Insta collection building Featured tab

Featured Tab - Insta Store
Within the updated Instas + Powers menu, the Featured tab introduces 10 dedicated Insta-Monkey deals. Everyone sees the same deals on offer with the Instas in question fully displayed.

  • Offers unlock over the course of a week, and fully reset for a new set every 2 weeks.
  • Offers 1 through 9 feature individual insta-monkeys. These can be purchased for IAP directly, or with a short gameplay goal they can be claimed for Monkey Money instead. The IAPs will grant you 3 copies of the insta.
  • Most of these gameplay goals are balanced to take 1-game or less, though if a T5 shows up you can expect that to take more legwork! When progressing goals to unlock the Monkey Money purchase multiple goals can be simultaneously progressed.
  • Offer 10 rolls one from a selection of premade bundles with the intent that these are always fun drops

Featured Tab - Freeplay Challenge
The Insta-Store isn’t the only upgrade, as here you will also find a new Freeplay challenge, with a valuable reward for any dedicated insta-collection fanatics out there.

  • Identical for all players, with the goal to beat the final round with a limited selection of Heroes and a global tower limit. This challenge resets every 2 weeks along with the rest of the Featured tab.
  • Your highest freeplay round will also be noted for you to compete with friends. This is not ranked, however we hope it can spark some direction for friendly freeplay competition, and with enough interest we would like to consider future options for local Team & Friends rankings
  • Pushing freeplay isn’t the only thing you want from this though, as completing the goal unlocks a very special insta monkey chest with 3 insta rewards to choose from, and 2 of these options are custom-tailored to your personal insta monkey collection progress!

New Awesome

  • New Advanced Map - Ship Capture
    • Yar har fiddle dee dee, a community map from u/MrRoostee!
    • Great if you love to sail the seas, but watch out! With clear blue skies above and the wind at their backs, the crew was all aboard for adventure. But then Bloon pirates appeared to crash the party! Those rubbery rascals are attacking from port and starboard, and now it’s up to you to stop them raiding the Captain's Quarters and stealing our precious booty!
  • New Quest - Mastery Mode
    • Take on a 3-part quest featuring a beefed up Mastery roundset!
    • If you recall classic Mastery Mode, you’ll feel right at home as you tackle a spin on the basic roundset with added layers or fortification for all Bloons!

Crossbow path is seeing modest improvements lining up closer to some similar priced options. Crossbow Master serves as an early entry level T5 and isn’t something we want scaling far, but multiple projectiles keeps the straightforward crossbow identity with more satisfying crit moments and some better scaling in particular with pierce which works well for Primary monkeys and is often noted to be lacking here.

  • xx3 Crossbow pierce 4 > 5
  • xx4 Sharpshooter crit damage 50 > 60
  • xx5 Crossbow Master Parallel projectile count 1 > 2
  • xx5 Crossbow Master attack cooldown 0.2375s > 0.475s
  • xx5 Crossbow Master pierce remains unchanged at 8

Bomb Shooter
Players were quick to point out Mauling Frags added far more power than expected, but the new baseline seems fun and fine, so Frag pierce scaling is cut back while otherwise mostly the same. We expected to regret this buff to Bomb Blitz, and were right 🥺, Bomb Blitz passive ability is now limited to one trigger per round. The look of missile travel from Bomb Shooters has been noted as ugly for a long time, so we have gone through every crosspath and adjusted projectile eject markers to make the attacks look cleaner - missiles previously spawned on a much higher layer to travel down which caused this, so the change will cause some differences to how they travel and what they hit.

  • 3xx Really Big Bombs frag pierce penalty remains 0
  • xx2 Frag Bombs frag all targets pierce penalty +1
  • xx2 Frag Bombs frag pierce 1 > 2
  • 042 MOAB Assassin ability frag pierce 2 > 4
  • 042 MOAB Assassin ability frag count 16 > 8
  • xx5 Bomb Blitz ability limited to once a round
  • Eject markers for all x2x bomb shooters modified to more naturally fire from the cannon

Ice Monkey
When Ice Monkeys gain extra damage through Artifacts, Perks or Traits, it can actually stop freezing at all due to dealing damage that exceeds the number of frozen layers.

  • 000+ Ice Monkeys apply Freeze after damage

Glue Gunner
As Glue Splatter crosspath still often feels unvalued, more cost shifts up into Glue Strike. Stickier Glue simply did too much as a Tier 1, with more than double glue duration that carried up into MOAB Glue.

  • x2x Glue Splatter price $970 > $650
  • x4x Glue Strike price $4000 > $4500
  • xx1 Stickier Glue duration 24s > 18s

Sniper Monkey
New toggle option ‘Ammo Swap’, this swaps which Supply Drop will be called down with the ability. The Ammo Drop will upgrade shrapnel for the next few attacks with all types popping, pierce, damage, and distance. Both Supply Drops will share the same cooldown.

  • x4x Supply Drop ability can now toggle between Cash Drop & Ammo Drop
  • xx3 Semi-Automatic Sniper pierce 1 > REALLY 1

Transparency on the Sniper change; outside of CHIMPS extra power was not needed, so we couldn’t make it too strong. However after testing in practice we like the idea of converting the bonus shrapnel pierce at x4x into higher power & uptime for this new ability. This change would simplify the upgrade, and making the damage/income decision much stronger would solve some hybrid identity issues. It was too late for us to be comfortable cramming this into v57 - but this is already in consideration for v58.
Super Monkey
The Temple is often called out for not seeing Camo, while happily ignoring its buffability and Camo crosspathing that has always been available. If you want Temple Camo, then there’s a camo toll to pay! Regardless, the Magic Sacrifice wind fart attack hasn’t been particularly valuable and we liked a suggestion for sacrifice choices to matter as a factor here, so it is changing to hit DDTs & work as an alternate way of dealing with Camo Bloons.

  • $20,001 Magic Sacrifice wind fart pierce reduced 500 > 100
  • $20,001 Magic Sacrifice wind fart removes Camo property from Bloons
  • $35,001 Magic Sacrifice wind fart now hits DDTs with pierce penalty +4

Alchemist
Some other changes needed to happen to address major concerns we had with how this would need to work, so the lucky Alchemist gets to serve as the guinea pig monkey! If this experiment works well, we plan to work through similar changes to more towers as needed.

  • xx3 Lead to Gold now keeps track of cash earned
  • xx4 Rubber to Gold now keeps track of cash earned
  • xx4 Rubber to Gold bonus cash is now distributed to Alchemist immediately on Bloon-pop (when popped by Bloon Trap or Wall of Trees)

Skywarden
For QoL cleanup, combos will be easier to hit in earlier rounds, and Red Bloons destroyed by a combo hit are now able to trigger any combo projectiles first before the Bloon is popped.

  • 333 All Combo debuff durations 2s > 3s
  • 333 Combos can be triggered from ‘popped Red Bloons’

Top Path
Tacking T1 Spam onto any strat for unrestricted range buffs was messy so Aerial Attunement has been rebalanced to cap out quicker with lower overall bonus but greater per tower, and now only applies to other towers up to 1 Tier higher. While this is meant to be the more introductory path for Skywarden it wasn’t hitting the mark, so prices for T3 and T4 have been lowered.

  • 1xx Aerial Attunement max stacks 5 > 3
  • 1xx Aerial Attunement range per stack 2 > 3
  • 1xx Aerial Attunement price $110 > $140
  • 2xx Zephyr Sense price $215 > $175
  • 3xx Wind Weaver price $1650 > $1200
  • 3xx Wind Weaver stage 3 combo 'vacuum' distance 150 > 250
  • 4xx Gale Sage price $3300 > $3000
  • 4xx Gale Sage no longer prevents towers dealing bonus damage to Camo

Middle Path
For higher crosspath value Thundering Arc’s pierce scaling is being improved, and damage type changing to Plasma with the ability to pop Lead. Middle path’s Higher tiers prove to be very powerful already and the T3/4 are seeing price nerfs, combo lightning damage reduced, and lowered ability duration.

  • x2x Thundering Arc pierce per interval 0.5 > 1
  • x2x Thundering Arc damage type Energy > Plasma
  • x2x Thundering Arc blast radius 8 > 10
  • x3x Galvanic Conduit price $1800 > $2500
  • x3x Galvanic Conduit lightning chain damage 5 > 3
  • x4x Thunder's Decree price $2000 > $3500
  • x4x Thunder's Decree ability duration 15s > 9s
  • x5x Stormwrath Archon price $35,000 > $32,000

Bottom Path
Skywarden’s change list was growing too big, but with many requests for Blastapopoulos cooling and improved damage from the T5 Frozen Remains we’ve made sure to include changes to these for now.

  • xx3 Coldchain reduces Blastapopoulos heat -30
  • xx4 Frozen Verdict reduces Blastapopoulos heat -100
  • xx5 Winter's Mercy reduces Blastapopoulos heat -500
  • xx5 Winter's Mercy icesplosive damage increased 5 > 10
    • From MOABs 25 > 50
    • From DDTs 50 > 100
    • From BFBs 75 > 150
    • From ZOMGs 200 > 400

Spike Factory
Now that Boss spawn projectile clear is properly functioning, we are improving the Spike Paragon’s mini spike storm’s bonus MOAB damage back up again.

  • Mini Spike bonus damage to MOAB-Class 100 > 200
  • We looked at the code.
  • The code looked back, 01100111 01101111 00100000 01100001 01110111 01100001 01111001
  • We closed the tab.
  • xx5 Permaspike unchanged

Monkey Village
As an overall improvement to clarity & ability usage that fixes some inconsistencies, CTA can no longer activate at all if it or Homeland Defense is already active, and Homeland can still apply over CTA but not over an existing Homeland buff. These improvements apply even if towers are sold, so players re-buying Homeland Defense no longer have to guess when it’s time to re-activate.

  • x4x Call to Arms can no longer activate if a CTA/Homeland buff is already active
  • x5x Homeland Defense will no longer activate if a Homeland buff is already active

Engineer Monkey
Bloon Trap stores money from Bloons it destroys to distribute later upon collection which has caused many many false bug reports and constant confusion over the years, this was only going to break when combined with Alchemist’s new cash tracking so it finally had to go. Bloon Trap pop cash now distributes immediately with only the bonus cash stored for collection, a basic unbuffed Bloontrap will obtain the same total cash with half of this being gained earlier acting as a slight buff. In testing this change we found Bloon Trap had previously benefitted more than intended from income buffs, which the rework actually resolved on its own, though as buff scaling always seemed weirdly high we are happy with this overall result.

  • xx4 Bloon Trap now distributes base cash gain from Bloons popped by traps immediately
  • xx4 Bloon Trap upon collection now only grants the ‘Bonus Cash’ without base cash gain

Hero Balance

Quincy
Even though Quincy doesn’t suffer from any sort of precision issues at all, just in case for those pesky early Yellow and Pink Bloons, from Lv4 he can now toggle to a Focused firing mode. This mode will gain more precise targeting, greater range & greater projectile speed with a slower attack rate tradeoff.

  • Lv4 Quincy gains a Focus toggle granting:
    • Precision shots towards initial target
    • Attack cooldown +25%
    • Projectile speed +25%
    • Attack range +20%

Admiral Brickell
Brickell being powerful already needed additional shifting & level simplification, but the synergy was very important to a lot of people so we’ve worked it back in. Brickell’s passive radial buff unlocks earlier at Lv4 and applies to all water towers right away. Naval Tactics now starts off weaker but upgrades to apply to all water towers at Lv8, and eventually becomes stronger than it was previously with bonus damage to affected towers for much-needed water-army setup support.

  • Lv1 Pistol damage 3 > 2
  • Lv6 Pistol damage unchanged
  • Lv3 Naval Tactics attack cooldown modifier 0.5x > 0.66x
  • Lv4 All Water Towers in radius gain pierce +1 (Was Lv8)
  • Lv4 No longer increases Sea Mine pierce (28 > 20)
  • Lv7 Blast chain mine delay multi 0.25 > 0.2
  • Lv8 Naval Tactics applies to any water towers in radius
  • Lv14 Naval Tactics also grants damage +1
  • Lv16 No longer grants Brickell range
  • Lv16 Naval Tactics attack cooldown modifier 0.66x > 0.5x
  • Lv10 Mega Mine duration 150s > 120s
  • Lv18 Mega Mine duration remains 150s

Other Balance

Paragon Degrees
Contribution from Tiers of extra towers was a strong visual fit to what we wanted out of Paragons, but with a lot more Paragons now and more frequent use of them it has become a tedious aspect of the process. Contribution from Tiers is being removed, and instead the maximum contribution for Damage & Cash is significantly increasing.

  • Extra Tiers max contribution 10,000 > 0
  • Cash max contribution 60,000 > 80,000
  • Damage max contribution 90,000 > 125,000

Boss Rush goals
Boss Rush has been too difficult for smaller teams to reach a point they feel invested, the milestones are shifting to a much more top-heavy requirement to make early stages more inviting.

  • Island 1 requirement 850 > 250
  • Island 2 requirement 1175 > 500
  • Island 3 requirement 1850 > 1100
  • Island 4 requirement 2850 > 3000
  • Island 5 requirement 3350 > 5225

Boss Rush stats
A number of base stat changes for Boss Rush versions of bosses to equalize them more.

  • Blastapopoulos initial health 350 > 325
  • Blastapopoulos base speed 1.25 > 1.20
  • Blastapopoulos base cash reward 1000 > 1100
  • Dreadbloon initial health 130 > 140
  • Bloonarius base speed 1.25 > 1.20
  • Lych base cash reward 1000 > 1100
  • Phayze base cash reward 1000 > 1100
  • Diamondback base cash reward 1000 > 1100

Legends
[Rogue] New Artifact - Window Shopping

  • This artifact recovers a heart when you move on from a merchant without making any purchase, however this will only take effect if owned Tokens are below a (12,24) threshold!

[Rogue] Added a maps banlist to Standard Race & Endurance Race tiles

  • Banned: Glacial Trail, Dark Dungeons, Ravine, Tricky Tracks, Bloody Puddles, Erosion

[Frontier] Etienne could not benefit properly from the assigned Ricochet Trait

  • Book Wyrm Etienne starter trait swapped Ricochet 4 > Attack Speed 4

Looking Forward

Thanks for reading this far! We’re into our planning for next year, and we’ve been cheering our friends and teammates along as Bloons Blitz has launched and both the Bloons Monkey Tales cartoon and Zombie Assault: Resurgence game are nearing launch. It’s a very busy end of year for the whole team, and for BTD6 the upcoming update 58 will be chock full of awesome.

  • Version 58 is a credit to the team and the forward planning done, as we have kept all of our push goals intact for an ambitious end of year update!
    • An exciting new Monkey Tower that we’ve been thinking about for years that will give support towers a scrappy, highly dynamic addition.
    • Mod System v1 is on track and looking great. We’re being careful with scope so we can deliver, but we’ve managed to include a few things beyond Monkey Tower and Bloon modding, namely Hero modding and Round modding, giving much more flexibility to the launch version. We’ve shared a pre-launch build with a few select modders, including some of Tewtiy’s collaborators, and we had great feedback from them, some of which we’re trying to stretch into v1 without jeopardizing the launch.
    • Over 10 new Monkey Knowledges plus an increase to Player Level cap to educate some of our newest Towers and provide fun new build options in all but the most competitive game modes and events.
    • MOAB Mine Powers Pro version remains laying in wait for the biggest and baddest
  • Social Seasons 4 and 5
    • We’re learning with each Social Season where players are having the most fun and where we’ve hit frustration, and we acknowledge in Season 3 one of our events complicated the intended goals
    • We’re leaning less on Events for Goals going forward but still trying to mix up types of targets in order to stimulate new build experimentation and new map play. Dovetailing Goals remains a design focus so players can optimize their play for progress against multiple Goals.
  • Console News
    • V54 is out on Xbox and Switch. This build is in the pipe (submitted) for PlayStation, no ETA just yet.
    • The main branch baseline is already speeding things up.
    • One more console update to v56 is planned for all 3 platforms by the end of the year
    • We also have a demo version out on Switch to allow players to try a slice of the game, and we’re looking to bring this demo to Xbox and PlayStation next year

Now it’s time to work on those farming strats so you can have a play at S.P.I.D.E.R. Monkey Paragon! Have a blast with update 57 and the other new games from Ninja Kiwi, and we’ll see you back for Update 58 and a sneak peek at plans for 2027!

Rant They fucked around; they found out

4.2k Upvotes

The title is a bit exaggerated but I feel liberated.

I’m a travel nurse. I don’t expect to be treated better than anyone else but I do expect to be treated like a human being.

I found out in mid February that I have to get a small breast tumor removed. It’s actually stage 1 but I was told to remove it before it increased. I was urged to do it within 8 weeks. I have a family history of breast cancer so I’m very aware of doing the monthly breasts checks and am glad I was a bit nervous about a weird bulge.

I just renewed my contract for the second time, thinking I had a great relationship with the managers and staff. I sent an email to my manager once I found out explaining the situation and asking to have a ten days off in April in order to get it done. Two months after I found out. Yes, I know: it’s late but I gave them time to work the schedule as it was already out.

I didn’t receive an email back from my manager for two days - which was strange. She normally even emails back when she’s at home after hours (I work night shift so sometimes, emails are sent at like 2am when I have downtime). So I went to her office in the AM after report and asked her about it. She gave me a wishy washy answer. Saying, “I can’t promise the time off”, “can’t give a yes/no”, “it’ll leave the unit short” and even asking if I can postpone my surgery. I stated I couldn’t and she stated she would attempt to work on it. She told me to officially submit the time off with my agency - which I did. Ironically, I work in HemOnc with cancer patients daily.

I submitted the time off with my agency… knowing I gave two months notice and thinking nothing of it. They’re super nice - I’m sure they’ll figure it out. Plus, we have new travelers starting weekly. Easy to just squeeze them onto the schedule. However, about two weeks later, my agency calls me back stating that the time off was denied. Weird… the surgery is now 6 weeks in the future. They really couldn’t modify the schedule a little? I told my agency that’s fine-I still need the surgery and I’m going to leave. My agency quickly backtracked - stating they’ll get it approved. I nodded and was happy with the response. I thought it may have been an error.

However, a week afterwards, I received more pushback from my agency. “Can you take only three days off?” No. I cannot. I’m not able to lift for a period of time. My physician told me to take it easy for some time. I told them if it’s a problem, then I’ll just leave the day before my surgery. “No! No worries. We’ll get it approved.” At this point, I started realizing something: my manager who was always super cheerful and bubbly in the mornings to me started ignoring me in the hallways. The scheduler also didn’t talk to me or joke when I gave report to her (she sometimes works the floor). Something strange is happening here.

Anyway, a week later (now 4 weeks before my surgery), my agency again, tell me I “HAVE” to work the schedule. I stop them. I don’t HAVE to do anything. I’m leaving April 16th and I’m not going back and forth anymore. They resign and realize there’s no more negotiating with me. I tell them to send a message to the management to take me off the schedule and my last day will be April 16th. They obliged.

Anyway, three weeks later, I look at the schedule as someone asked me to switch… I’m still on the schedule. So I email the manager: by the way, I need to be taken off the schedule as my last day is April 16th as my time off was not approved. Thanks for the opportunity! She didn’t even respond.

The scheduler came up to me the next day - last week. “Hey soapparently! So sorry I heard your last day is April 16th. But you called in one day in February and need to makeup your shift. Can you do it April 16th?” I work night shift so it would be April 17th I would leave. My surgery is the morning of April 17th. This is the only day I’ve called in during this contract and I’ve been here since September.

I tell her I’m unable to do it. She then drops her smile. “What did you say?” “I am unable to do it as I have my surgery April 17th”. “Well a makeup shift is required at this facility”.

I’m… stunned. So you’re asking me to become flexible with my schedule and move my surgery when you were inflexible with nearly two months notice. The funny thing is that I worked a LOT of overtime and oftentimes, would work 5-6 days in a week. Love how that doesn’t qualify for a makeup shift. Would you even think I would want to come back to this facility or floor after you refused my time off to removed my tumor?

I nod my head. “No worries!”.

I quickly finish giving report. Make sure my charting is good. Empty my locker. Put my badge in the manager’s mailbox bin. And leave… making sure saved numbers are blocked. So instead of having my last day the day before my surgery, I now have five days to relax, clean my house, service my car and chill out. So instead of having to fill holes for a 10 day gap (really only 5 shifts), you’ll have to fill holes until June… which is when the schedule is until. FAFO!

TL;DR: management refused time off for me to remove tumor despite two month notice. Then tried to have me move my surgery back to complete a “makeup shift”. Left with no notice. Fuck off!

Edit - words

——

Update since people have been asking: cancer is removed! Apparently I need to follow up in 3 months, then 6 months for 2 years… and then thereafter, every 9 months for 5 years.

Also, PM me specifically if you want the hospital details. I don’t want to share it in a public forum! I am not against name and shame but because it’s so fresh, feel a little weird about it right now. I will answer privately, however! This hospital is located in Rochester, NY, though.

Thank you guys all for your support! I am very overwhelmed with happiness and you guys standing by my decision!

Season 11: Escape SEASON 11 PATCH NOTES

APEX LEGENDS: ESCAPE GAMEPLAY TRAILER

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N-7j2ejytyI

NEW CONTENT

NEW LEGEND: ASH

A new Legend with a familiar face, Ash has overseen the Arenas from the shadows and held a tight grip on Pathfinder’s heart. A simulacrum made from the woman who once was Dr. Ashleigh Reid, Ash is determined to eliminate every trace of weakness that held her back as a human.. Detecting death wherever she goes, spearing enemies with electric snares that lock them in place, tearing through space to take more lives-- it would be easy to think that there was nothing human left within that cold steel.

But a trace of the human doctor remains, and she poses a greater threat to Ash than any Legend in the ring.

Passive: Marked for Death
Ash's map shows the location of recent deathboxes. She gets a special prompt on a deathbox, use it to mark surviving attackers (once per box).

Tactical: Arc Snare
Throw a spinning snare that damages and tethers the first enemy that gets too close.

Ultimate: Phase Breach
Tear open a one-way portal to a targeted location. This portal stays open for a short time, during which anyone can use it.

See Ash’s abilities in action here.

NEW MAP: STORM POINT

This beautiful oasis was once an energy colony for the IMC, and the ruins remain. Many have tried to make a home here: all have failed. A survey of the area revealed the remains of three unique settlements built across the centuries, but no survivors. The colony lay abandoned, only visited by the occasional pirate or castaway. Now the Mercenary Syndicate has plans of their own for Storm Point.

It looks so enticing, but the pristine beaches and crystal waters are just the eye of the hurricane. All around, dangers swirl: wild prowlers, venomous spiders, and the gathering storms only add to the tension in the air. Now the Legends are here to make this place their own.

So it looks like Storm Point is only going to get more dangerous. Check out our blog with all the details here.

BATTLE ROYALE MAP ROTATION

For the Escape update the map rotation will be back down to 2 maps; Storm Point and World’s Edge. With Storm Point being a whole new map, we want to make sure players have plenty of time to master the new arena.

ARENAS MAP ROTATION

With the introduction of Encore, the Arenas map rotation will now include only the custom made Arenas maps. We will not be using BR locations for Arenas in the Escape update.

NEW WEAPON: C.A.R. SMG

When you’re in a precarious place, you need a dangerous, flexible weapon: meet the C.A.R. SMG. The Combat Advanced Round submachine gun is a fully automatic weapon that takes adaptability to the next level by accepting either Light or Heavy mags. The C.A.R. hits hard but handles light, this hybrid weapon’s the best of both words for when you’re ready to take a stand and become the most dangerous thing on the island.

RANKED UPDATES

Hello, Legends! Let’s take a quick look at how Ranked in Emergence shaped up and review the changes coming in Escape. Ranked continues to attract a large portion of players (around 40% of all playtime!), but this doesn’t mean we can’t look to make improvements.

Note: We fixed an issue where expired skydrive trails remained accessible for longer than they should have. These trails will now expire on the intended seasonal cadence, as mentioned originally in the Ranked Series 3 post (trails from Series 1 & 2 are still grandfathered in).

RANKED BATTLE ROYALE - ESCAPE

“Skill” in Apex can be evaluated in all sorts of ways. It’s the amalgamation of gun skill, movement, positioning, awareness, legend mastery, and prevailing over everyone else as Champion that separates the lowly Bronze from Apex Predators.

With that in mind, we want to provide more flexibility and nuance to how players can express skill when RP gains are at stake. Before Escape, measurements have been simple and straightforward. We grant RP based on kill points and a placement multiplier. Now, we’re easing back on some RP restrictions to offer other routes to max out kill-related RP in a match.

TL;DR: Just give me the summary...

  • Kill RP values now take differences between killer/victim Ranked tiers into account.
  • The kill RP cap (as we have traditionally thought about it up to this point) is effectively being raised from six to seven. However, this kill-related RP cap can be reached in different ways, depending on tier differences and placement. Placement is still paramount, and you still must place first to have a chance at max total RP.

To expand on the first point, tier differences between the killer and victim will be taken into account when calculating baseline kill point value. For example, if a Plat player kills a Diamond player, that kill counts as 12 instead of 10 RP

Tier Difference Kill Points
-3 3
-2 5
-1 8
0 10
1 12
2 15
3 20

Some points of clarification;

  • Victims do not lose more or less points when killed (in terms of entry cost). Only the killer receives the modifier.
  • Apex Predator and Master are treated as the same tier.
  • An encounter rate with someone of a 3+ tier difference is ultra-rare (less than 0.1%). Ranked matchmaking is staying the same, so in general, you’ll come across identical tiers. In cases where you squad up with a different rank friend or merge into a different tier lobby, your KP will be adjusted appropriately.

After tier differences are taken into account for kill points, a flat per kill bonus is added based on placement.

Final Placement Per Kill Bonus
1 15
2-3 10
4-5 5
6-10 2
11-14+ 0

The maximum kill point RP is 175. Any kill-related RP that exceeds that after placement and tier modifiers are added doesn’t affect total RP. The final step is to add a flat placement bonus. Enough with the math, let’s explain these changes with an example:

As a Platinum player, you party up with your Diamond friend and matchmake into a lobby with similarly skilled players. You snag second place, with 6 kills (and/or assists) against Diamond players, and 3 on Plat players.

Each kill on those Diamond players is worth 12 points instead of the typical 10, because they are one rank tier higher than you. That leaves us with (12 × 6) + (10 × 3) = 102 RP.

Now let’s take placement into account. In second, the per kill bonus is 10, so our 9 kills (including assists) × 10 = 90 RP.

We’re curious to see how these changes affect the ranked grind. Jump into Storm Point this first split and let us know how they feel. Stay tuned; this is only the start of what we have in store for Ranked improvements.

RANKED ARENAS - ESCAPE

We learned a lot from the first season of Ranked arenas and are eager to bring you some improvements:

  • Arenas Ranked now has 2 splits, similar to Ranked Battle Royale
  • Along with each new season and split, there is a soft MMR reset and new placement matches. New seasons require the usual 10 placement matches while a new split only requires 5 placement matches.
  • Improvements have been made to matchmaking for finding similarly skilled teammates.
  • Reduced the AP amount gained or lost from MMR differences between teams.

DEV NOTE:The final calculated AP amount for a match is a factor of your current AP and MMR. It’s also influenced by the MMR differences between teams. In practice, this difference was factoring in more than we wanted. I.e. Losing a match you were slightly favored to win was giving a bigger AP loss than desired.

BALANCE CHANGES

WATTSON

Dev Note

Move aside Ash, this is Wattson’s season. We’re ecstatic to finally share some long-anticipated Wattson improvements! Her win rate and encounter win rate have always been above average. This could be for a multitude of reasons; her defensive playstyle correlates to higher average placements, Wattson mains are diehard loyalists, and her hitbox has been the smallest in the game ever since Lifeline’s adjustment.

Regardless, much of the high-level data that we’ve shared doesn’t match perception. Play a few games as Wattson and you’ll often find yourself wanting more out of her kit. The goal of these changes is to redistribute her invisible power into the parts of her kit that shape the battlefield in a unique way. We wanted to see what changes could spark more consistency and efficacy in her kit, and ideally ground some of the difficulties surrounding the way her abilities work.

We want to enable more active gameplay from Wattson players by smoothing out the rough edges in placing fences. Responsiveness tweaks, longer range, and faster cooldowns means that Wattson can much more quickly and reliably set up a defensive position, or even use her fences and pylon in the midst of open combat in a pinch.

General

  • Improved the reliability and responsiveness of placing Wattson's Tactical and Ultimate in-world objects.
  • Wattson can place her Tactical and Ultimate objects on valid surfaces above Wattson's eye level (to a reasonable extent).
  • General hitbox size increase, to compensate for the removal of low profile in the Legacy update.

Tactical - Perimeter Defense

  • Increased damage on crossing a Fence by 33%. (15 to 20)
  • Increased debuff duration on crossing a Fence by 100%. (1.5 to 3 seconds)
  • Increased the time allowance to be hit again by a subsequent Fence effect by 100%. (0.5 to 1 second).
  • Decreased recharge time by 50% (30 to 15 seconds).
  • Increased placement range by 50%.
  • Decreased the delay between Fences shutting off and reactivating after an ally passes through them by 60%. (1.0 -> 0.4 seconds)
  • Wattson now moves at Unarmed-speed while readying/placing Fence nodes.
  • Fence nodes can now be placed as soon as the weapon is readied, instead of waiting for the animation to finish.

Ultimate - Interception Pylon

  • The Pylon output has been significantly reworked.
    • Reduced the number of active Pylons Wattson can place from 3 to 1.
    • The Pylon now lasts forever (instead of timing out after 90 seconds).
    • The Pylon now has a pool of 250 Shields that can be distributed to nearby players, instead of effectively infinite Shields.
    • Increased the Pylon shield recharge rate by 150%, and smoothed regen rate. (2/second -> 5/second, or more accurately: 1/0.5 seconds -> 1/0.2 seconds)
    • When a Pylon is out of Shields, it no longer recharges players' Shields, but can still zap incoming ordnance.
    • Taking damage while regenerating Shields via the Pylon delays continued regeneration by 1 second.
  • The UI on the ground and HUD elements now displays the amount of Shields that remain in the Pylon.
  • Pinging a friendly Pylon will now display the percentage of Shields remaining in the Pylon.
  • Pylon ordnance-zapping has been moderately reworked.
    • Ordnance is now zapped when the Pylon detects that it would hit any surface within range and line of sight of the Pylon, instead of being zapped as soon as it comes within range.
    • As a part of the changes, current issues where the Pylon doesn't reliably zap ordnance (particularly concerning airstrike abilities, and ordnance that bounced off surfaces near the Pylon) should now be addressed.

BALANCE CHANGES: WEAPONS / GEAR

SUPPLY DROP ROTATION

  • This season the Triple-Take returns to floor loot and taking its place is the G7 Scout. The Scout enters the Supply Drop with its old friend the Double-Tap Trigger equipped.

HOP UPS

  • Dual Shell - Each round loaded into the Mastiff or the 30-30 Repeater is doubled.

FULLY KITTED ROTATION

  • Added: Mastiff 30-30 Repeater, R-301, CAR, Longbow
  • Removed: Peacekeeper, Rampage, RE-45, Flatline, and Charge Rifle

EVA-8

  • Fire rate reduced from 2.1 to 2.0

Dev Note

With the reduced bolt scaling we’ve done in previous passes the EVA-8 is still performing ahead of the shotgun pack. Hitting the base fire rate should help balance out our shotgun roster.

PEACEKEEPER

  • Slightly increased pellet size
  • Choke up time reduced from 1.5s to 1.25s
  • Choked up shots remain tight for slightly longer when exiting ADS

Dev Note

When the PK came out of the crate we gave it a big sweep of nerfs to make sure the floor PK wasn’t the crate monster we had all grown to know. In this pass, we swung a little hard so we’re giving it a QOL and usability pass this season.

LONGBOW

  • Damage reduced from 60 to 55

Dev Note

We’re walking back a recent buff to the Longbow that proved unnecessary. We wanted to give it some love due to all the recent Marksman updates but it seems the Longbow was just fine.

L-STAR

  • Reduced barrel effectiveness at all rarity tiers
  • Significantly reduced projectile collision size
  • Damage reduced from 18 to 17

Dev Note

The L-STAR has been a force to be reckoned with this season so we’re taking a big swing and hitting its projectile size and damage in an effort to bring it down a notch.

G7 SCOUT

  • Damage increased from 34 to 36
  • Double Tap added to Supply Drop G7 Scout

Dev Note

With the G7 Scout entering the supply drop we’re giving it a bump to damage and adding back on the retired Double Tap to give it some extra spice.

SUPPLY DROP WEAPON RATES

  • Early game crate weapon rate increased from 25% to 50%
  • Mid game crate weapon rate increased from 50% to 75%
  • Late game crate weapon rate increased from 75% to 100%

Dev Note

Pushing a supply drop in the end game and whiffing on a weapon feels pretty rough. We want to improve the reliability of getting crate weapons out of supply drops throughout all phases of the game. Don’t worry, we’re adjusting Kraber spawn rates accordingly to keep them in line.

HOT ZONE GOLD LOOT RATES

  • Increased amount of gold loot that spawns in hot zones

Dev Note

Hot Zones can sometimes feel a bit lackluster so we’re injecting more high-tier loot into these dynamic zones to make them more enticing drop spots.

CRAFTING

  • Increased ammo from crafting
    • Light Ammo 20 → 60
    • Heavy Ammo 20 → 60
    • Energy Ammo 20 → 60
    • Shotgun Ammo 8 → 24
    • Arrows 16 → 48
    • Sniper 12 → 36
  • Crafting Ammo price increased from 5 to 10 per weapon
  • Evo Armor Points from crafting increased from 100 to 150
  • Evo Armor Points cost increased from 45 to 50
  • Replaced a sniper bundle with a shotgun bundle featuring the Dual Shell

ENEMY NPC UPDATES

  • Prowler health across the game has gone up from 90 to 114 (Storm Point and World’s Edge)
  • Prowlers on World’s Edge and Flyers on Kings Canyon now reward EVO points (25%) ... all damage done to AI now rewards progress to your EVO armor

ARENAS

Supply Drop

  • Supply drop will now land outside the first ring, if possible, and land 10 seconds earlier.
  • Purple weapons now spawn more in earlier rounds
    • Round 1 - 3x blue -> 1x purple + 2x blue
    • Round 2 - 1x purple + 2x blue -> 2x purple 1x blue
    • Round 3 - 2x purple 1x blue -> 3x purple
  • Supply drop no longer spawns blue Havoc or Devotion or gold RE-45

Weapon Price Updates

  • Moz
    • Blue 125 → 150
    • Purple 200 → 250
  • P2020
    • Blue 75 → 50
    • Purple 150 → 25
  • RE45
    • Base 200 → 150
    • White 150 → 100
    • Blue 250 → 200
  • Prowler
    • Base 500 → 400
    • Blue 300 → 350
    • Purple 400 → 350
  • R99
    • Base 500 → 450
    • Blue 250 → 300
    • Purple 300 → 350
  • Hemlok
    • Base 500 → 450

QUALITY OF LIFE

  • UI - teammates will now show that they are self-reviving on their in-world game tags.
  • Added VO for players to communicate they are out of ammo.
  • Updated the Arena Map Rotation Images to show up to five maps.
  • Updated Social Awareness Badges to unlock as default for all accounts.

BUG FIXES

  • UI/UX / Steam Only: Fixed issue where your online friends playing Apex didn’t count towards total online friends while in matches.
  • Fixed bug for Placing a Caustic trap over a Seer Ultimate, that could result in the Ultimate being protected from taking damage.
  • Updated Volt skin's charm placement to be moved up so that charms become more visible.
  • Fixed bug with players losing extra Boosted Loader extra ammo if the player reloads before getting to base ammo amount.
  • Steam: Fixed issue where if a player has a forward slash in their name, a backslash will be added right before it automatically.
  • R5DEV-280424 - Legends- Retail - Hitting an enemy with Valk tactical missiles, can result in health damage even with shields equipped
  • Fixed issue where players do not see Legend Select when starting a game in Trios and immediately advance to drop ship phase.
  • Audio fix for cases where music starts playing in the middle of a BR match.
  • Fixed UI error that showed that the Legendary Prowler had the "Shotgun" tag in the in-game info screen.
  • Audio fix for cases where VO for map changes doubles up (plays both variants at the same time).
  • Audio fix for Rampart Town Takeover where vending machines had no soundFX.
  • Fixed bug where Non-Crossplay Steam friends playing Apex would show up with debug text.
  • Removed the random rock floating in midair in World's Edge.
  • Bug fix for cases where a player could stand up and jump in a knocked-down state after an enemy starts finisher and cancels it.
  • Fixed bug where player names would be missing from Legend select.
  • Reduced hitbox size for Crafting Material Canisters to better fit its shape.

Legends

  • Rampart:
    • Fix for cases where Rampart's "No Mercy" finisher causes her to clip through geometry.
  • Wattson:
    • Fixed issue where her Ultimate doesn't always destroy frag grenades when thrown inside the Pylon radius.
  • Pathfinder:
    • Fixed issue with players being able to create ziplines much farther than intended.
  • Fuse:
    • Fixed bug with his Ultimate cooldown being the same with or without a gold helmet.
  • Seer
    • Removed ability for players to be able to bunny hop at full speed while using Passive.

Season 9: Legacy LEGACY PATCH NOTES (SEASON 9)

6.3k Upvotes

DEVSTREAM

Take a deep dive with the devs into the Legacy update. We’re going beyond Battle Royale with Arenas, introducing a new Legend (Valkyrie), as well as new Arenas maps, an Olympus map update, and much more. Click the video down below to watch.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dVgh-PRGja0

NEW FOR APEX LEGENDS: LEGACY

ARENAS

The Games are going underground with the introduction of a new permanent mode: Arenas. Fully reassembled and unimpressed with the glitz and glamor of the Apex Games, former Apex Predator Ash is taking the competition back to its roots. A purer form of combat.

The rules are simple: 3-versus-3. Eliminate your enemies to win the round. Nowhere to run, nowhere to hide. You win, or you die.

Arenas features a new set of custom maps, tailor-made for close-quarters combat (with more to come in the future). Squads start each round in a spawn room, where they can get weapons, gear, and abilities, and adjust their loadout as their strategy changes. The first team to win three rounds with at least a two-point lead will be crowned the victor—unless they battle to a four-four tie. Then they’ll have the honor of participating in Ash’s favorite part of the game: Sudden Death.

For more on Arenas, check out the blog for a full deep dive into the new mode.

PARTY CRASHER

Short version, Mirage took the voyage on a joyride and it didn’t go as planned.

Party Crasher is one of two exciting custom arenas where you’ll be able to show off your skills. This arena takes place in a ritzy, downtown plaza where players can choose to engage on the crashed Mirage Voyage, or the opulent two story buildings that make up the downtown. Stay vigilante, as this map hosts a variety of engagement distances—both close quarters and long distance.

PHASE RUNNER

The Phase Runner on Olympus is unique, but it wasn’t the first of its kind.

Phase Runner is the second of our custom arenas, and our largest. You’ll fight in a hidden, experimental zone at the peak of a mountain where a prototype phase runner lays for use. This map gives you a lot of space to maneuver, so be sure to be on the lookout for those who prefer to be patient and take you out from afar. Sound tactics and clear communication are what you’ll need to come out on top as you fight through the construction site or near the phase runner exit.

In addition to the two new maps, other areas from our three BR maps will be thrown into a bi-weekly rotation, giving you five maps total for Arenas. At the start you’ll get Artillery from Kings Canyon, Thermal Station from World’s Edge, and Golden Gardens from Olympus.

VALKYRIE

https://youtu.be/PJYy-e3kXnU

Kairi Imahara, the daughter of Apex Predator Viper, salvaged the remains of her father's Northstar Titan years after his death. With Rampart's help, she fashioned it into a sleek new jetpack that honors her family’s legacy. Now, she’s entered the Games under the name VALKYRIE.

Passive: VTOL Jets

Use your jetpack to reposition or reach high places. You have limited fuel and cannot use weapons while flying.

Tactical: Missile Swarm

Fire a swarm of mini-rockets which damage and disorient the enemy.

Ultimate: Skyward dive

Take to the skies to reposition a long distance across the map. Your squadmates can join in.

Class: Recon

Scanning Survey Beacons reveals the next circle’s location.

BOCEK

The new Bocek (pronounced bow-check) compound bow is a precision marksman weapon that rewards a skilled and confident hand. Holding down fire will draw the bow over a short time, increasing the power of the shot, with maximum power giving optimal damage and projectile speed. Repeatedly firing the Bocek right as it reaches max power provides the best sustained damage.

The Bocek uses a new ammo type, Arrows, which are unique to this weapon. Arrows are more rare on the battlefield, but fired arrows will stick into surfaces and remain in the world for players to pick back up and reuse. The 1x hcog classic, 1x holosight, 2x hcog, 1x-2x variable, and 3x hcog optics can all be equipped. The Bocek can also be further modified with the two new hop-ups entering the game, Shatter Caps and Deadeye’s Tempo; it can even equip both hop-ups simultaneously!

OLYMPUS - THE LOST FLEET UPDATE

A fleet of mysterious ships have made their way to Olympus and brought with them an otherworldly, parasitic plant that has begun to take root along the surface. The lead ship, The Icarus, has docked with the city and changed the landscape for good. Fight through the claustrophobic halls of the ghost ship, search corpses for a mysterious key card, and walk away as the last squad standing.

Read our latest map update blog to get a detailed look at what’s changed on Olympus.

To allow everyone to see the latest map update, Olympus will be the only map in rotation for the first week of the new season.

STARTER KIT AND LOOT CHANGES

  • Players will now start a match with a “Starter Kit” consisting of a Level 1 EVO Shield, Helmet, and Knockdown Shield, plus two Shield Cells and Syringes each.
  • We’ve removed Level 1 Helmets and Knockdown Shields from the loot pool.
  • Spawn chances for Level 1 EVO Shields in the loot pool have been significantly reduced.
  • Along with the lowered or removed spawn chances for these items, we’ve rebalanced the loot pool such that higher-level versions of these items will appear nearly the same as they do now, but other item types will appear more often (weapons, ordinance, health, ammo, etc.)

Dev noteWe've wanted to take a crack at improving the loot game for a while, with our design goals being to make picking up loot feel more impactful to the game, and to thin out our loot a bit in general, since we're always adding new items to the pool. The recent Locked & Loaded takeover mode helped us field-test some of the changes we're looking to make moving forward: certain pieces of loot, and low-tier loot types specifically, are being put on notice.

We're removing Level 1 Helmets and Knockdown Shields from the ground loot because these seemed like the least exciting, least meaningful equipment pickups we had. Their power is practically invisible, so they don't really feel like a character improvement in the way that things like, say, a Backpack feels (getting those extra slots feels SO chunky!).

We're keeping Level 1 EVO Shields in the loot pool (albeit at a lower spawn chance) in addition to adding them to your starter kit because having them sprinkled around is still important for "shield-swapping" shenanigans.

Finally, granting these pieces of gear from the start of the game is also intended to improve the "hot drop" situation: having more health, some headshot damage reduction, and a little knockdown protection can help give players some more time to react to a chaotic hot drop than before.

Be on the lookout for more loot changes in the future! This will be an ongoing project.

EMOTES

https://reddit.com/link/n19dbs/video/87l9h5bob5w61/player

Introducing Emotes! Every Legend will have one emote unlocked at launch and additional emotes can be obtained through Apex packs or by crafting them. Equip your emotes to the emote wheel and flex away! It’s great fun to show off to your squadmates in the starting room of Arenas, and of course you have to use them on the Winner’s podium.

Now, since emotes kick your camera back to a third-person view, we know some folks are already thinking about corner peeking. Competitive integrity is still paramount, so enemies that your character couldn’t see in first-person view will not be shown while you are in third person.

This video shows the “Anti-Peek” feature working on the purple Dummie behind the rock. Without it, Pathfinder would be able to use the 3rd person camera to gain knowledge that he shouldn’t have. All emotes have Anti-Peek enabled and there is no way to disable it.

BATTLE PASS

Unlock the premium Legacy Battle Pass and level it up to unlock new skins like Rampart’s Crafty Kitsune at Premium Level 25 and Wraith’s Demon’s Whisper at Premium Level 50.

LEGEND UPDATES

LOW PROFILE CHARACTERS

  • Low profile no longer exists! This trait has been removed from Wraith, Lifeline, and Wattson.

Dev Note

After our successful experiment with Wraith's hitboxes, we are now confident that we can solve balance issues between smaller and larger Legends through changes to their kits and hitboxes. It is finally time for Low Profile to go the way of the dodo. (Sorry dodos.)

LIFELINE

  • Combat Revive: No longer deploys a shield. Can now revive two players at the same time. Can now cancel active revives in progress to allow your teammate to defend themselves with their knockdown shield.
  • D.O.C. Heal Drone: Heal rate increased from 5hp per second to 8hp per second. Deployment time before healing begins reduced by roughly 33%.
  • Care Package: Cooldown reduced from 6 minutes to 5 minutes. Now guarantees an upgrade (if possible) in three categories: Body Shield, Other Equipment (Helmet, Backpack, and Knockdown Shield), and Weapon Attachment, based on your team’s current gear when the Package arrives.

Dev Note

Lifeline’s kit was not in a particularly healthy place. The Passive shield was extremely strong to the point of frustration, while her Tactical and Ultimate seemed like they were becoming more and more obsolete. These changes are aimed to redistribute this big power differential between all of her abilities, making D.O.C. and Care Package more powerful and effective, while tamping down on the highly binary and situational Combat Revive.

OCTANE

  • Stim: Reduced cooldown between stims from 4s to 1s. Increased health cost from 12hp to 20hp.
  • Increased bullet spread while in the air and shooting from the low Launch Pad trajectory.

Dev Note

Octane continues to perform really well after the latest changes. Too well? We still love the frequency of the Jump Pad, but we’d like to make using Stim something Octane thinks about doing at the right time, instead of always slamming it by default.

LOBA

  • Burglar's Best Friend: Can now run and slide at full speed while aiming the bracelet and while the bracelet is in the air. Loba will no longer be slowed after translocating.
  • Fixed a lot of bugs that caused bracelet tosses to fail.

Black Market Boutique: Increased cooldown from 90s to 120s.

HORIZON

  • Gravity Lift: Reduced lift speed by 30%. Reduced side-to-side acceleration. Limited the time you can sit at the top of Gravity Lift to 2 seconds. Increased cooldown from 15s to 20s.
  • Horizon’s abilities will now get zapped by Wattson pylons.

Dev Note

Horizon is powerful and popular, but that's not why we're making these changes. We believe that mistakes in Apex Legends should be punishable, and when Horizon could just get herself out of bad positioning while popping a whole battery, this just wasn't true. These changes have two goals: 1) make it much more possible for enemies to shoot Horizon as she sits in her gravity lift and 2) make gravity lift less of an impromptu sniper tower.

FUSE

  • Knuckle Cluster: Fuse now has two stacks of Knuckle Cluster. Reduced cooldown from 25s to 20s.

Dev Note

More help is coming, but we want to be very careful how we buff him so that he doesn't just become the Legend that kills you with his abilities.

BANGALORE

  • Smoke Launcher: Thickened Bangalore’s smoke.

Dev Note

Last patch we optimized Bangalore’s smoke particles and inadvertently thinned them out. This aims to get her back to the original visuals while keeping the optimizations.

BLOODHOUND

  • No longer receives assists from Eye of the Allfather.

Dev Note

Bloodhound's scan is strong, but the goal of this change in particular is to reconsider assists and their implications for Ranked Points. There's enough intrinsic value in sonar scans, and it's a slippery slope to consider crediting assists for other non-damaging abilities. Crypto will remain an exception. The active nature of Crypto's drone scan is notably different from the passive option with Bloodhound. This should encourage Bloodhound players to act on the information they get from the scan, to eliminate instances where they might try to snag a quick assist without committing to a fight in the same way Crypto has to.

CRYPTO

  • Crypto's drone can now scan and open care packages.
  • Can no longer use his drone to "hijack" a respawn beacon that's already in use.

WEAPONS UPDATES

MARKSMAN WEAPON CATEGORY

The G7 Scout and the 30-30 are currently in the Assault Rifle weapons category, but they are a bit strange in that category due to their firing style and some of their handling values. Similarly, the Triple Take felt a little out of place in the Sniper category.

With the introduction of the Bocek bow, we felt it was a good time to introduce a new weapons category, Marksman Weapons, which will include the G7, 30-30, Triple Take, and Bocek. Weapons in this category are precision weapons that are most effective up to medium-long range, and are the sort of in-betweens of Assault Rifles and Snipers. This allows us to begin moving the settings of these weapons towards more consistent value for the class, and make the settings of ARs and Snipers more consistent with less outliers.

For starters, we are increasing the movement speed while aiming down sights for marksman weapons; They were at sniper speeds, and will now be between sniper and AR speeds. Additionally, we have done some targeted normalization of hipfire spread amounts.

SUPPLY DROP ROTATION

This season, we’re taking the Peacekeeper out of the supply drop and putting the Triple Take in its place. Of course, with any supply drop change, these weapons will have their stats updated. See how each weapon changes down below.

Crate Weapon Drop Rates:Since we are exchanging a shotgun with a marksman weapon, now was a good time to rebalance the drop rates of crate weapons. The Kraber will spawn less often in the early game and more often in the mid game to better accommodate its power. The Triple Take will be the most common early game crate weapon, with the Prowler being the most prominent late game crate weapon.

FULLY KITTED ROTATION

  • Added: Wingman, Bocek, R99, Hemlock, and Sentinel
  • Removed: R301, 30-30 Repeater, Mozambique, Longbow DMR, and Spitfire

HOP UPS

Shatter Caps - Fire select to toggle between standard mode and shatter mode. In shatter mode, rounds split into a blast pattern on firing. This hop up will be equipable to the 30-30 Repeater and the Bocek.

Deadeye’s Tempo - Firing at the perfect moment increases fire rate. This can currently be attached to the Sentinel and the Bocek.

  • To make room, the Hammerpoint and Skullpiercer hop ups are being vaulted for now, and won’t be available.

ASSAULT RIFLES

Reducing the headshot multiplier for all assault rifles from 2.0 to 1.75

Dev Note

This was already the case for the Hemlok, so the affected guns are the R301, Flatline, and Havoc.

PEACEKEEPER

  • It comes with the Precision Choke by default, which can be toggled off
  • Pellet damage reduced from 10 to 9
  • Rechamber time increased from 0.9 seconds to 1.1 seconds
  • Reload times increased (regular from 2.45 to 2.5, empty from 3.35 to 3.5)
  • Pellet spread increased in general, and spread when charged increased for all charge levels (from 0.65/0.45/0.2 to 0.85/0.65/0.35)
  • Quickly loses charge after leaving ADS

Dev Note

Since the Peacekeeper is coming out of the crate, we are bringing many of the stats back in line with their previous values. We are also reducing its damage potential and bringing in the effective range a bit since the Precision Choke is always available now.

TRIPLE TAKE

  • As a crate weapon, it will come with a 9 ammo clip and 63 reserve ammo
  • Fire rate increased from 1.2 to 1.3
  • Time to full charge reduced from 1.1 seconds to 1 second
  • Retains charge briefly after leaving ADS
  • Move-speed while aiming down sights has been increased to match other marksman weapons -- faster than snipers, slower than ARs
  • Increased spread while airborne and aiming down sights

HAVOC

  • Increased recoil controllability early in the pattern

Dev Note

This should help make up for the reduced headshot multiplier and make it a bit more usable in mid-range fights.

SPITFIRE

  • Reduced recoil controllability early in the pattern

Dev NoteThe Spitfire is too strong at the moment, boasting good damage output with low recoil. Making it a bit harder to control early in the pattern should give more time for opponents to fight against it. That said, we’re prepared to make more changes to the Spitfire if it remains too powerful.

30-30 REPEATER

  • Increased leg damage multiplier from 0.75 to 0.85
  • Move-speed while aiming down sights has been increased to match other marksman weapons -- faster than snipers, slower than ARs

Dev Note

The 30-30 could use some love, so we’re bringing up the amount of leg damage it does.  This should make it a bit more consistent without raising its high “best case” damage potential.

G7 SCOUT

  • Move-speed while aiming down sights has been increased to match other marksman weapons -- faster than snipers, slower than ARs
  • Increased hipfire spread size (reduced accuracy) to be more in line with other marksman weapons

Dev Note

The 30-30 Repeater and the Bocek Compound Bow have more accurate hipfire than the baseline marksman weapon values, so the G7 Scout will be less accurate in hipfire than these other weapons.

LONGBOW

  • Increased headshot multiplier from 2.0 to 2.15

WINGMAN

  • Increased headshot multiplier from 2.0 to 2.15

Dev Note

As we’ve done before when the Skullpiercer is out of the loot pool, we’re giving the Longbow and Wingman a compensatory buff.

MOZAMBIQUE

  • Increased magazine capacity from 4 to 6
  • Moved the lower 2 pellets inward in the blast pattern

Dev Note

This brings up the baseline power level so “only” finding a Mozambique early in the match gives you more of a fighting chance, and makes up for the removal of Hammerpoints.

P2020

  • Increased bullet damage from 15 to 18
  • Lowered fire rate from 8.5 to 6.25

Dev Note

Similar to the Mozambique, we want to bring up the P2020’s baseline power level a bit. Most players couldn’t take advantage of the fast fire rate, so bringing that down while increasing the damage should help players win more early fights with the P2020.

ARC STARS

  • Aim and movement slow removed from the initial stick.

Dev Note

Sticking someone should feel rewarding, considering it's a rare occurrence that's difficult to pull off. While an argument can be made that getting stuck should be a personal death sentence, the inability to at least relocate and spare teammates from the follow-up explosion makes it hard to counter against a coordinated team. This change should help mitigate that without stripping away the satisfaction of hitting a nice stick.

QUALITY OF LIFE

  • Badges are now sorted by categories and can be filtered by “all” or “unlocked only”. This suggestion came directly from players. Thank you! It’s so much better!

  • When looting death boxes, players can now see health bars for everyone on the team.
  • Challenges can now be “favorited” by going into the challenges menu and right clicking a challenge. That Challenge will then be added to a new favorites tab that will appear in the lobby and in the match’s map screen.
  • Pressing and Holding F2 while in-game will bring up the ability description page for your character. This is only available on PC.
  • Players can now request better equipment by going into their inventory and pinging a piece of equipment.
  • Your first Challenge Reroll of the day is now free.
  • Rerolling your challenges will allow you to choose from either BR-focused challenges or Arenas-focused ones.
  • Holo Sprays, Quips, and Emotes, can be favorited. These will be used whenever the player is prompted to do a random emote.
  • Club Invites v2: You can now include what you want to play when you send your clubmates a party invite via the Club tab. Select as many club mates as you want to send the invite to at once via the member list.
  • Ranked: Fixed edge cases where an abandon penalty would be incorrectly applied due to server errors.
  • Flight path adjustments: Removing edge dropship flight paths to prevent matches where large portions of the map receive little to no traffic. These screenshots show a before/after comparison of possible flight paths on Kings Canyon.

RING UPDATE

We're continuing work from the Fight Night update to improve match pacing towards the end of the game. We're slowing down the closing speed of the late game Rings to allow you more time to fight and maneuver your way into the Ring. We're also reducing the "waiting" time before Rings 4 and 6 start to close.

  • Ring 4 pre-shrink time reduced from 2:00 to 1:45
  • Ring 4 shrink speed reduced from 33 second close time to 40 seconds
  • Ring 5 shrink speed reduced from 20 second close time to 40 seconds
  • Ring 6 pre-shrink time reduced from 1:30 to 1:00
  • Ring 6 shrink speed reduced from 1:40 close time to 2:00

BUG FIXES

Bloodhound

Fixed an issue with the Tactical UI not showing while in Bloodhound’s Ultimate.

Pathfinder

  • Gas Traps and Jump Pads will no longer float into the sky when placed next to a zipline.

Wraith

  • Slight wall bumps no longer inadvertently cancel Wraith’s tactical.

Mirage

  • Decoys no longer die after a tick of thermite damage.

Octane

  • Ordinances will no longer get stuck and disappear when being bounced off of Jump Pads.
  • Death Totems will no longer bounce when a Jump Pad is placed under it.
  • Players will no longer have weapons drawn if they are knocked as they enter the Fight Night ring via a Jump Pad.
  • Updated Octane’s Helicopter emote to correctly remove his leg for which he is using it to do said helicoptering.

Wattson

  • Fixed the “Extend” prompt for Watson’s fences not appearing in certain situations.
  • Haute Drop skin will no longer block view when reloading the Sentinel.

Loba

  • Fixed more areas where Loba’s Bracelet fails.
  • Red Handed skin on consoles will now properly animate.

Rampart

  • Mobile Respawn Beacon now has proper collision with Amped Cover.
  • Jumping on and off a damaged Shiela will no longer transfer the flame effect to your weapon.

Horizon

Discussion / Venting Review after 45 hours game time Spoiler

15.8k Upvotes

I have played Pokemon Shield for 45 hours now, have completed the main story, the post-game, and have over 200 pokemon caught in the pokedex. I have played every main series pokemon game since gen 1, as well as most of the off series games as well. I would consider pokemon to easily be in my top 5 favourite franchises of all time. Everything following is of course my personal opinion. I have marked late-game and post-game spoilers as, well, spoilers.

I played through the game with the following self-imposed challenges. Nothing serious but worth stating.

  • Pokeballs Only
  • Fairy Type Team
  • No Combat Switching (the game setting)

The Introduction - 4/10

The game starts with an excellent introduction to the setting, and having been to the UK I would say it certainly nails the aesthetic. The game goes through the typical "this is what a pokemon is, here is your starter, here is your pokedex" introduction, which took me just over an hour to complete, speaking to every NPC and taking my time to take everything in. My fiancee who is not an experienced gamer and has only played a couple of other pokemon games completed this section in just under 2 hours. I liked that it gave the option of customising your character early (though I'm still holding out for a pokemon game that lets me grow a beard).

While the setting of the theme of the game was done well, the first glaring problem is Hop and Leon. The introduction did not need to be as lengthy as it was, and could easily have achieved the same success with setting the theme if Hop and Leon had not interrupted gameplay every 2 minutes. My fiancee actually turned the game off towards the end of the introduction, near where you are given the opportunity to take the train into the wild area, because she could not cope with their constant intrusion, stopping her from playing. Her reactions went from "this kid again..." to actually throwing her head back in frustration. This is what people are introduced to the game with, and it is insulting. You are given an option to select "I know about Pokemon" when you acquire the pokedex, which does nothing to curb the near-constant interruption to your gameplay to tell you how strong Leon is and how much Hop is going to be the next champion. The excuse of "they are being helpful" isn't accurate. They could be helpful with 1/4 of their dialogue. This is easily one of the most frustrating parts of the game in terms of story progression.

The Starters - 5/10

I have never before, in any pokemon game prior, been less excited by the starters. I had seen all three final evolutions before I made my choice, and can confidently say that I was not inspired by any of them. The game continues the trend among recent games of having your rival choose the starter that is weak to the one you pick, which was disappointing. I don't believe it would be difficult now to implement a choice on the players behalf which selects whether they would like an easier or more challenging experience here. Considering the trend of overly friendly 'rivals', perhaps the rival could ask for your opinion on which they should choose? Or go to pick the one weak to yours, and you have the choice of intervening, telling them to pick the one stronger against yours? Regardless, the starters are okay, but certainly not anything spectacular.

The Wild Area - 9/10

I so badly wanted to give this a 10/10, but I would be lying if I said this area comes without faults. But oh boy, I had a spectacular time in the wild area. It really felt like what an open world should feel like, with powerful pokemon running around and many different areas all accessible together. This is what ALL the non-city areas should have been like. I found myself genuinely disappointed with all of the regular routes, because I felt they could easily have just been replaced with more wild areas. It felt awesome and scary when seeing a pokemon that I knew was way too high for me to encounter. When my pokemon were only in their 20s, I encountered a level 60 Gengar, and could not have used a pokedoll faster. I genuinely loved just roaming the wilds, catching many different types of pokemon. It never felt tedious, I was doing what I wanted to do at my own pace, setting up camp instead of going back to town (see below) and just overall having a wonderful time.

Of course I did say that I couldn't give the area 10/10. The weather across the wild areas is... jarring. From intense sun to pouring rain in two areas next to each other? Putting aside that it doesn't make sense at all, it makes hunting down specific pokemon that only spawn in specific areas in specific weather conditions a nightmare, unless you're willing to adjust your Switch's clock. I am a firm believer that an in-game problem should not have to be solved by out-of-game means. I would like to have seen weather change more frequently, but be consistent across the wild area. It might be raining now, but come back in an hour and it'll have stopped. OR, give players a means of changing that weather in-game, even if its a late game item. Have a pokemon use Sunny Day and the area turns sunny for the remainder of the hour, or until a different weather move is used.

The Game Balance - 0/10

So, this is the part of the game I had the most issue with. The most glaring issue, beyond any other issue for me, is the inability to turn ExpShare off. The game became mind-numbingly easy after not long at all. I did zero grinding, just spent time in the wild area enjoying myself (as was clearly intended), and had a full team of level 35 pokemon before the first gym. I was encountering 'very-strong-looking Pokemon' that were 10+ levels my junior. Just to make sure it's clear, I did not pump all of the XP candies gotten from raid battles into one pokemon. My full team was all level 35+. It is a good thing that almost every single late game battle is made up of Steel type pokemon or at least pokemon with Steel type moves, because they at least provided some mild challenge for my all Faity type team.

Most concerning however was that I found myself not using my team. My pokemon became so strong passively that I did not have to use more than one. When I realised this, I began forcing myself to change up my pokemon, but it was purely my decision to do that. I never needed to. There was a time for about 15 levels where I realised I had not used one of my team AT ALL. I know this because I had an Impidimp, it evolved into a Morgrem, and eventually evolved into a Grimmsnarl. I not once sent out my Morgrem. I don't actually know what it's animations are like. I realised when it evolved into Grimmsnarl that I had completely missed that stage of its evolution, and it actually made me sad. I actually felt sad how disconnected I was from my other pokemon as a result of the ExpShare being there without choice.

It is also pretty clear that balance between the wild area and the rest of the game was not considered. The wild area balances itself; you move from zone to zone within the wild area and encounter new pokemon. The spicy higher level pokemon in the earlier zones become manageable as you level up, and you feel like there's a really strong sense of progression through the game. It felt rewarding and exciting moving into new areas that I couldn't survive before. To then go to the FIRST GYM after that was so deflating. Why are gym battles not scaled now? The game could detect what your highest level pokemon is, and scale the gym leader's to match. The game even made it clear that ALL the gym leaders have more pokemon than they used, each at much higher level than the gym challenge, considering they are battled again in the finals tournament. The gym challenge is meant to be aimed at whatever skill level the individual trainer is at, after all.

The Gyms - 8/10

I really liked the gym challenges and battles, ignoring the above balancing issues. Each of their challenges was fun and appropriate, and it often reminded me of the Saffron city gym puzzle from Kanto. 6/8 of the gym leaders were memorable and had some storytelling integration, which was really cool. My favourite gym leader was Piers, and his overall story development especially in the post-game was excellent. I assume that Raihan is based off Zlatan, at least I definitely got that vibe and I liked it. I really liked that the gym challenge was unofficially split into sections, with grass/water/fire being the first three gyms and then spreading out to more diverse types from there. I felt like I had a relationship with those gym leaders, and it made beating them and moving on all the more epic. The gym leader music was also really well done. This was one of the better parts of the game for me.

So... why did Allister and Melony get nothing? I actually just looked up and edited her name because I thought it was Melody. My only memory of the fight was that she was an ice type user and that her lapras had song notes around it. I assume Allister got nothing because it would've been more work for them to write different stories for him and for Bea in Pokemon Sword, but what's Melony's excuse? Her gym itself was excellently designed, but why did she draw the short straw to not being allowed into the story?

The Elite Four - 6/10

There isn't much to say here. The elite four is... nonexistent. I didn't mind the finals tournament with the gym leaders, especially considering they already had some story development which made me care about those characters. However, I was definitely looking forward to meeting who the epic Elite Four would be. The Leon battle was meh, considering the gratuitous amount of lead-up the game had to fighting him. However, the Leon battle was made up for by the music, which was stellar.

Camping / Cooking - 7/10

This was a cool addition. I liked the option of camping with your pokemon and often used it instead of going all the way back to the pokemon centre. It felt immersive to camp out in the wilds with my pokemon. The reason this is not rated higher is because I don't understand why curry was chosen as the food of choice. I am from Australia, not the UK, but I have been there before and have family that live there. To my understanding, curry is not a UK dish? I have no issue with curry, I just felt that it was a strange choice. The cooking method itself is also not very intuitive in terms of berry/ingredient selection, and without looking things up online it requires a level of trial and error that outweighs the number of berries you get from adventuring. The berry descriptions are odd and while flavoursome (ha), do not accurately or intuitively portray their effectiveness in cooking.

Music - 11/10

The music carried this game. Whoever is on the sound team deserves major props in my opinion. I was at one point playing the game in the car while my fiancee drove and I genuinely put headphones in because I wanted to listen to the sound while my fiancee listened to music. The soundtrack to the Champion fight with Leon was absolutely spectacular. The crowd cheering the pokemon theme was one of the greatest musical moments of pokemon for me.

Animations and Graphics - 3/10 OR 9/10

I was going to rate this a simple 6/10, but I feel that doesn't give the whole story. For 95% of the game, the graphics are very pretty and the animations are 9/10. The battle animations are smooth and everything looks great in 1080p playing on a big tv. The camera is done well and is generally unobtrusive, and the scenery in some areas is breathtaking. The Slumbering Weald when you get into the post game area is one of the most beautiful places in many games that I have played. Some of the new move animations are very well done and deserve praise. For me, everything ran smoothly on my Switch and I never got any fps drops.

When the graphics and/or animations go bad though... oh boy they are BAD. Like, heavily immersion breaking bad. A few moves have such outrageously outdated graphics that I'm amazed they were even okayed to be put into the game. The first move that comes to mind for me is Double Kick, which I used for a while in the early game. It's animation in a battle is that the pokemon simply hops slightly, twice. Not even an animated hop. Their entire model just... moves upwards and downwards quickly. I was doing a max raid battle with a friend against a normal type pokemon, and I genuinely considered not using the move because I didn't want that to be what my friend saw my pokemon do. BUT, here's the kicker though (geddit? double kick heh). The double kick WAS animated in the raid battle! My pokemon actually got up and kicked, twice! Fully animated, it even looked half decent! I am actually at a loss for this point. Why is it animated in a raid battle but not a normal battle?

The post-game graphics also leave a LOT to be desired. Zacian and Zamazenta are NOT fully animated outside of battle. Their howls are grossly out of time with their movements, which don't even look like howls, and they rotate on the spot instead of moving properly. Any immersion from what was intended to be an epic encounter was completely lost. It was like we had regressed back 20 years in graphics. This was to me, grossly unacceptable from a gaming company as large as this.

The Rivals: Hop - 3/10, Marnie - 9/10, Bede - 3/10

As I mentioned earlier, it is disappointing that Hop gets the starter that is weak against yours, but I didn't count that as contributing to this rating. Hop is a solid 0/10 for the first few hours of gameplay, without question. I almost consider giving him a negative rating. He is infuriating in a way that makes people want to stop playing the game. Hop receives his overall 3/10 because he calms right down in the mid-game, and his story arc redeems him somewhat towards the end of the game. In the post-game, I would give Hop a 9/10, but this sadly does not make up for his overall aggravating behaviour in the early game.

Marnie is an excellent rival in my opinion. She has personality, she is mostly uncaring towards the player besides wanting to beat you, and she has outstanding character development throughout the game. She rarely if ever intervenes with the player's actions, and when she does it is brief and unobtrusive.

Bede... I wanted to give Bede a higher rating, because he reminded me so much of the rival in gen 2 and their remakes. Bede is angry with the world, willing to do whatever it takes to come out on top. He's a fighter, and even a criminal. At the start of the game, I would give Bede a 7 or 8/10. Bede then gets the opposite treatment of Hop however. What happened? Why did they feel the need to make Bede a laughing stock? I like fairy types, obviously, as I did an all-fairy playthrough. But putting Bede through the ringer and making him the fairy gym leader in a way that he CLEARLY was not happy with, I think did his character a disservice. By the end of the game, he's not a powerful rival anymore. He gets demoted to just being a weird kid who annoyingly interrupts the finals tournament because reasons.

The Villains - 2/10

I must say this was the most disappointing and least interesting 'evil team' in any pokemon game. Which honestly, for me, had nothing to do with their theme. Team Yell's theme was tacky, and at times cringey, but this was redeemed by them eventually being revealed to not be the 'evil team' at all. Marnie and Piers also have good storylines in the late-game and post-game and are interesting characters.

What really killed the 'evil team' aspect of the game for me is that there really wasn't one, in terms of gameplay. There was no Team Rocket taking over the radio tower and Silph Co. There was no Team Magma/Aqua interfering with the volcano, stealing the submarine, and eventually awakening Groudon/Kyogre. There was none of that throughout the game. Team Yell stops a single door from opening, which you immediately circumvent by going around it. It was just gym after gym until the very end of the main storyline, at which point you get teased out of fighting the champion to FINALLY go deal with some villains in the form of Oleana and Rose, who up until this point you were unable to interact with despite it being very obvious they were evil. Before that point, Leon obnoxiously announces that he will go and deal with the problems himself. I even went to follow Leon on those occasions because I wanted to go help out, only to find that there was nothing, or be told to go back. I do not understand this design choice, and I feel like the game suffered as a result of this staple of the pokemon storyline being removed from Sword and Shield.

The Post Game - 3/10

I almost wish I didn't have to write anything here, so I will keep this short, just like the post-game. Sordward and Shielbert are jokes. I am okay with joke characters. The pokeball guy in each of the gyms was a joke, and he was amazing. Sordward and Shielbert made no sense. It felt like a filler episode where the design team had gotten drunk and just put ideas together, seeing what the funniest thing they could create would be. Except its not funny, because it's all that we have been given as genuine post-game content. I am only giving this a 3/10 and not lower because I really liked that all the main character's storylines came to a wholesome end. Hop choosing to dedicate his life to caring for pokemon was spectacular. It fit his friendly character perfectly, and the post-game actually made me like Hop overall as a character. It is just a shame that it took that long to get me to like him. Sonia taking him on as an apprentice was awesome. Leon moving on to the Battle Tower was very fitting. Overall I am happy with the character story provided in the post-game, just not the content.

The Legendaries - 1/10

What legendaries? The only two legendaries in the game (assuming you don't trade the other from the other version)? The ones you fight scripted battles with? The ones you don't need to find or seek out in any capacity, and are extraordinarily easy to catch? I will give credit that the main storyline involving these legendaries was cool. I liked uncovering the history of Galar. I liked Sonia's little lessons and depth-diving into conspiracies and hidden legends. But... two legendaries? 2? Dos?

Where are the rest of them? I have a memory of sitting down as a kid with Pokemon Ruby/Sapphire and an encyclopedia, yes an encyclopedia, open to the page on braille so I could hunt down and catch the regis. I have a memory of encountering Entei as a random pokemon encounter when I was just a kid in the original Silver/Gold, and freaking out so bad when it ran. I tracked it via the Pokedex tracker for hours afterwards until I finally encountered it again. I even loved revisiting the Seafoam Islands in Pokemon Let's Go Pikachu/Eevee, going through the caverns to see Articuno in all its 1080p glory. This game doesn't have that, and I don't understand why. Actually, I think I know where all that design time went...

Dynamaxing and Gigantamaxing - 0/10

Legendary pokemon died for this. Mega Evolution died for this. I think what makes me rate this so low isn't that it inherently is bad (which it is). It's that time was spent designing and implementing this feature. Sorry, time was wasted designing and implementing this feature. I did not find this a fun feature to use, in any capacity. I think what upset me even more was that gigantamaxing was so limited in its use; only the gym leaders and significant person's final pokemon could ever gigantamax. However, because getting a pokemon to gigantamax requires the pokemon specifically to be able to, none of my pokemon ever could. I had a Hatterene, a Grimmsnarl, and an Alcremie, all species which CAN gigantiamax and I haven't gigantamaxed them because... they just can't. My specific pokemon cannot. I would need entirely new pokemon to do that.

The graphics for dynamaxing are average at best, and certainly not worthy of Switch graphics. The pokemon cries while dynamaxed sound disturbing and are unnecessarily loud. You don't need to care about what moves your pokemon have, because they all get replaced when you dynamax anyway, and don't look particularly special even then!

I found it especially ironic that if you consider the story of Sword and Shield as a whole, one of the main villains of the game IS dynamaxing! It is even written in as an evil concept!

FINAL THOUGHTS

Overall, though there were many aspects that I thought could be improved upon (a lot) I enjoyed the time that I have spent playing, and I do not regret buying the game as I was worried I might before release day. I am not going to give the game an overall rating because I think different aspects of the game carry different weights for different people. If you combine all of the individual ratings I have given, it totals to 4.8/10, but I don't think this is an accurate reflection of how much I personally enjoyed the game. I play games for immersion, and 99% of the time, I felt quite immersed. I am not going to comment on DEXIT, because I feel like the omission of more than half of all pokemon from a game is objectively a poor decision that does not require my opinion. I can say that it personally did not affect me much, however most of my favourite pokemon are included in Sword and Shield.

The game has suffered most from decisions made that go against what has been enjoyed in the past. The removal of good features that have been present in past games has left me often asking "why?" and feeling like the game is in some ways moving away from what I loved. However, in saying that, there are some excellent parts to Sword and Shield as well, namely the wild area and some of the new graphics and animations. If you are considering getting the game and are on the fence, I would recommend to give the game a try with an open mind. It does not include everything that was excellent about pokemon in the past, and there are things that are sorely missed. It is FAR from a perfect game. However, some of the new features are truly worth experiencing, and I would love to continue to see implemented in future release titles.

EDIT: I posted this shortly before going to bed and this exploded haha. I am glad everyone enjoyed the review and am very thankful for the praise :) Obligatory thanks also for the gold.

I will address some of the more frequent comments I've gotten here, rather than commenting on each one.

Pokemon Team Levels

My team reached 35+ before the first gym because I went through the wild area for many hours. I left the wild area when I could no longer catch new pokemon there either because I had caught all the ones in an area, or I couldn't because they were too high. This is how I have always played pokemon, it is what I personally enjoy doing. I personally consider grinding to be going out of my way to specifically raise my pokemon's levels. At no point did I play with that specific intention, I simply played out the wild area as much as I liked.

I of course understand that having a team of 35+ is absurd before the first gym. I included the point of reaching 35+ as a point that I personally consider it too easy to level in the game, for a game that is generally not difficult overall. I did not use these pokemon exclusively throughout my journey, swapping some out for others as they became available. This was especially true for my fairy type playthrough because not all fairy types are available in the starting wild area zones. This leads me into my next point...

Balance and Being Over-levelled - 3/10

Because of the exclusive use of fairy types, it meant that who I could swap into my team was limited. Therefore, individual pokemon ended up getting more exp than usual. HOWEVER, when I acquired new pokemon, I loved using them and absolutely did not take time out of my adventure to go level them up to match them rest. I took on Nessa, the second gym leader, with a Ribombee I had caught not long before, who was at similar level to Nessa's pokemon.

Most fairy pokemon are not even available before Glimwood Tangle, meaning that for the 5th badge, I was using pokemon that were freshly caught and were appropriate level for the challenges, if not slightly underlevelled. I did not go back into the wild area to train these pokemon at any stage. This did not make the game harder however, and I rated the balance overall what I did with this in mind. If anything, this upset me even more as these freshly caught pokemon quickly caught up and even surpassed my opponents. Even with freshly caught pokemon at or under level, I still stomped through the remainder of the gym challenge and post-game. I will concede that perhaps my rating of balance overall was harsh, and that it is not dysfunctional overall, as some people have pointed out. I am not going to change my original rating, but will say here that considering the game does still function and some poor balance does exist, I would rate it a 3/10. I said in my final thoughts earlier that I didn't want to rate my own disappointment, but my disappointment did affect the original rating. Without my disappointment, I feel 3/10 is more fair.

I will say, that in my opinion, I should not have to deliberately TRY to keep my team weak. An overwhelming amount of comments said that it was my fault that I overlevelled. To me, that feels like saying it is my fault for playing the game. That I should be punished or have lesser experience for investing more time into the game. I don't expect the game to be Dark Souls. However, I also don't expect that I can just spam A and look away from the TV but know that I will one shot my way through the elite-four's pokemon no matter what.

New Pokemon - 8/10

A lot of people asked my opinions on the new pokemon. I really liked them, actually. I thought the Galarian forms were well done and the new models were very aesthetic. A big bonus here is that a lot of the new pretty animations that I talked about earlier come from the new pokemon.

Dynamax

I understand that the feeling of dynamaxing in a stadium may be cool to some, and that this was clearly the intended appeal. This feature does not appeal to me personally. I gave dynamaxing such a low rating because I am disappointed the feature was introduced at all. I understand of course there will be differing views on this. I really like mega evolution, but understand some others dislike it.

Putting my personal opinions aside, the reason I gave it a 0 and not a low number is because I ALSO think it has been objectively implemented incredibly poorly. Mechanically it is disingenuous for any team besides hyper-aggression, and I believe there are already talks of it being banned from competitive play. Gigantamaxing being exclusive to pokemon caught in raid battles would force me to abandon my existing team, and that's a big, big no-no from me.

Using the exact logic I earlier addressed of "a 0 rating means the mechanic doesn't work" actually fits this mechanic. It is a broken mechanic. I cannot gigantamax my pokemon without getting new ones.

Cooking and Curry

I will happily stand corrected that curry is a national dish in the UK. Today I learned something new. I will also however stand by my rating because the mechanical implementation of cooking is difficult to understand and requires significant trial-and-error.

Previous Games

A lot of people asked about my thoughts on previous games. I don't want to go into this too much, because it's meant to focus on SW/SH. I started playing with gen 1 and have played every main series game since. My favourite generation is gen 3, and Emerald is my favourite game of the entire franchise. My favourite point of each previous game is... gen 1's nostalgia, gen 2's post-game (8 more gyms!), gen 3's storyline, gen 4's legendaries, and gen 5's villains. Gen 6 and 7 feel kind of similar to me. I liked both games, but not as much as the first 5 gens. I am placing gen 8 with 6 and 7 as being behind the first 5. I am not sure where I would place gen 8 compared to 6 and 7... and I think I might keep that can of worms closed for now as well lol.

Exploration - 3/10

I am giving exploration in SW/SH 3/10 exclusively for the wild area. The only caverns in the game, Mine 1 and Mine 2, are very short, linear, and require no exploration. Even the wild area has no caves or ruins that you can enter. If you are looking for a game with exploration, SW/SH is not for you.

The Price Tag

I would say I got MY money's worth. If you do not plan on taking your time and spending a lot of time deep into the wild area, you will not get your money's worth. This is, of course, my opinion.
