When should we start checking about joining the Badge Waitlist? I've seen a lot of people discussing, but do not see anything about it on the Magfest site.

Selling for the exact price we got it, $145 per ticket. We didn't land a Gaylord room which was the only way our 35 year old selves would want to attend. Happy to send proof, not trying to use the official waitlist because Magfest would hold back my processing fee that way (see pic). I got the sad email saying I didn't get a hotel room in the first run of the lottery, so I got another email with all the booking links to the Alexandria hotels that are available to attendees to book. [And I did lock in a hotel room, thanks!] My question: has MAGFest only contracted with those hotels in Alexandria? I know there are more hotels than what's listed - I'm surprised the Hampton Inn on King Street (a few blocks down from the Hilton) isn't on that list! The pickings are quite slim now considering it's first-come-first-served for reservations.

This might be a dumb question, but I'd really like to volunteer with the stage crew despite them being listed as not taking volunteers this year. Its literally the work I am getting a degree in, and I have experience - would it be worth emailing them?

The list of departments also specifically says "Accepting new volunteers through registration sign up" so I wasn't sure if that meant they are through other channels?

It be like that. How do you stay active and energized during Mag.

Food . Plenty of water. Hydrate. Getting some healthy food in. Fruits especially. Snacks.

Sleep. Power naps. Stay well rested.

Showers. Stay fresh. Clean. Well moisturized.

Humidifier in the room. Gaylord and other rooms stay dry.

Overall listening to your body clock. If you need to slow down, slow down.

For those who've had a Wyndham Airbnb that got canceled, what happens exactly? Do they try and offer you some hotel at a low rate far, far away? Or do they just simply say, "your reservation has been canceled" and offer you no other options?

Also, is it a guarantee all Wyndham reservations will get canceled (if they were booked before the lotto/at a somewhat decent price)? Or do some people not have their reservation get canceled?

Just curious people's experiences. We have a backup plan and are expected it to get canceled. But if it doesn't, that would be awesome.

Hey all, this is my 10th Magfest, normally we try the lottery, rent an Airbnb in Oxon Hill (which is very meh), or rent an Airbnb in Alexandria(very fun quaint area but need to drive/shuttle to the con). I found this suite at the Wyndham, and seemed like a good option, so we booked it way ahead of time to have something secured and not have to worry if we didn’t get anything from the lottery.

I’ve had friends that have stayed at the Wyndham before, in larger suite style rooms, but never tried myself.

I’m slightly worried they might cancel on us last second, especially after seeing some other people post on here about their experience with the Wyndham and getting screwed out of their rentals. The renter has a ton of reviews, even a bunch from people who’ve stayed there for Katsucon, so that does give me a bit of reassurance, but still, a bit worried.

I’ve messaged them a few times to triple confirm that we won’t get canceled last second, but would still love some safety that we aren’t going to lose it.

Anyone else staying at the Wyndham?

Question: if we book a hotel through the “Third Party Partner” option, will the shuttles to the Gaylord still be available to access or will one have to use Uber or Lyft?

Huh, I was kinda expecting hotel hunger games round 2 but, this was a very smooth process! Not as good as the Gaylord but it's a shuttle stop, and I'm hoping with magfest adding more shuttle times it will work out fine!!

Still kinda hoping to get a room as people drop, but the overflow worked pretty well. How'd it go for other people? Thoughts? Feelings? Speculations?

Edit: it seems like I may have been a lucky outlier ;-; I thought it was too shockingly good to be true. What hotels were you guys going for?

Hi guys new to magfest. First timers from last year me and my gf got the Gaylord. Now this time we have a group of 4 to increase our chances and we didn’t get anything. I don’t really understand this Alexandria thing.

So we are waiting for some links to drop at noon and then first come first serve to book a room as fast as possible? Why not just go to the hotel websites and book now?

Hi all, my group was fortunate enough to have been awarded a room in the hotel lottery. We decided we'd rather stay an additional night if possible, and so selected this option when securing the room.

My question is, what is the expected time window to find out whether we will be granted the additional night? I only ask because our flight dates depend on this info. The website instructions and timeline don't seem to say, so was wondering if anyone here had any knowledge from MAG staff or previous years?

I haven’t got an email yet but I checked the lottery page and it came up for me!

Hi all! Since I unfortunately missed buying my badge for this coming MAGfest & the lottery for the hotel rooms went out, is there’s anyone that’s thinking of not going?? If you are, please let me know! I’ve been trying very hard to look for anyone selling but so far it’s a no-go, but hopefully with enough patience something will pop up! Are there specifics in the badges waitlist situation? Is that tool already setup?

I am imagining that some folks will want to release their badges if not getting a hotel. Which I believe is announced on Friday.

I'm in need of a couple of badges as I will be in MIVS this year and have a few friends who were going to assist that were not able to get badges.

Hoping to get on the wait-list or another mechanism for tracking down a couple of badges.
