Help [Hiring] Leather Worker – Nicks Boots, Spokane WA (Full-time, M–F)

We’re growing in Spokane and hiring leather workers for our Leather Goods production team.

What you’d be doing: Making belts, wallets, bags, insoles and other leather goods on a small team. Production runs in batches, so you’ll often stay on one product for a few days at a time. The pace is fast and the work is hands-on.

What helps:

  • Leather-working experience
  • Attention to detail
  • Time on a sewing machine (at work or at home counts)
  • Production or manufacturing experience
  • Likes working with your hands

You don’t need all of these. The main thing is that you like working with your hands, pay close attention to detail, and can keep a good pace.

Schedule: 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM, Monday–Friday, in person in Spokane (99212)

Benefits:

  • Medical, dental and vision insurance
  • 401(k) with matching
  • Paid vacation and paid major holidays
  • Yearly raises
  • One free pair of boots a year, plus leather goods and apparel
  • Employee discount

If that sounds like you, please apply through our Indeed listing: https://www.indeed.com/viewjob?jk=3fabb760566a1368

Happy to answer questions in the comments.

ToDo stand-up comedy show at the Magic Lantern tomorrow. affordable tickets and no drink minimum

Hello! my name is Jonathan van Halem. I am a stand-up comedian based out of Brooklyn. I frequently open for comedians like Rory Scovel, Gianmarco Soresi, and David Cross. Tomorrow night I'll be in Spokane headlining a stand-up show at the Magic Lantern. I don't normally perform in movie theaters, but in this instance it's nice because the tickets are affordable, and there's no food/beverage minimum like other comedy clubs.

Tickets are $20. If you wanna check out my comedy, my most popular bits are about my 10th grade history teacher who got fired over his slave trade lesson, my experience as an intern for fox news, or the time i got arrested. My comedy is most typically enjoyed by women with bisexual energy and men who've never been in a fight, thus why i'm posting to this subreddit.

Anyways, opening the show is local comedian Josiah Carlson. hope to see you there!

News 🎉 We Just Scooped Dog Poop From Our 300,000th Yard! Thank You, Spokane! 💩

hey everyone! I’m one of the owners of Swoop Scoop, the local pooper scooper service, & I just wanted to tell everyone on here THANK YOU!

we recently passed 300,000 yards cleaned, and a huge part of that milestone came from support from dog lovers here in town.

I started this business with a friend 6 years ago while working my day job helping people experiencing homelessness find affordable housing. It was originally going to be a side hustle to make some extra money. I never imagined it would turn into what it is today. What started as me out there scooping poop in people's yards has grown into a company with over 25 amazing team members, and being able to help provide jobs that support their families has been one of the most rewarding parts of it all.

I've been fortunate enough to have so many conversations with you guys in your yards, hearing about your lives, what you're going through, and why you need our help. From elderly homeowners and adults with disabilities to people recovering from surgery, busy families, and people working long hours. I never imagined something as simple as picking up dog poop could make such a difference, but knowing that it does is what makes all of this so meaningful and keeps us going every day.

many would think scooping dog poop is not exactly the most glamorous business in the world, but building something useful for people has been incredibly meaningful. And I've found our workers are very proud of what they do, too. It's about an honest of a living as it gets.

so again, thank you to everyone in Spokane who has trusted us, supported us, referred us, or even just encouraged us along the way. We really do appreciate it! Cheers to the next 300,000! 🙂

Question Rocky Horror Picture at Garland

I’m a RHPS virgin and want to go this Halloween to the midnight showing. Do people here have fun with it and get dressed up? Is it usually a full theater? Wondering if any past attendees can chime in. Thank you!

Question Long shot, but any programs that help people pay for tools for their first job?

Hi folks. This is probably a looooooong shot, but does anyone know of any programs that help people pay for tools for construction jobs? I've been unemployed since June and FINALLY got a local contractor to give me a chance. I am so blessed for this opportunity, but they gave me a tool list (~$150 worth) and said I need all of it by day one.

I'm already stressing about rent this month, so spending that much on tools is making me sick.

Any help or advice would be appreciated.

Question Dentist recommendations? Especially if you've previously had bad dental experiences and have now found an office you really like!

I recently moved here and am looking to get set up at a dentist for general care and for a chipped tooth.

I went to Weber Dental Center after seeing really positive reviews but unfortunately saw one of their new dentists who is a new graduate and the visit felt rushed and dismissive.

Question Favorite Local Ad from the Past

After the question about the Southwest Plumbing commercial was raised, it put me in mind of goofy local ads. I’m not sure if anyone remembers the rug company who used a gimmick that they were having a closing sale for years until the state had to step in and make them stop. This earned them a parody segment on Almost Live.

So what was your favorite ridiculous local ad?

ISO Friends IRL You're Invited to PolitiCrawl 2026 on Friday, October 16.

• Upvotes

At RANGE, we believe in making local government as accessible (and fun) for the public as possible. The last two PolitiCrawls were a huge success, and we want to continue helping local voters (you!) connect with elected leaders, candidates and each other to learn more about upcoming policies that might impact you, your neighborhoods and your communities.

We’ll take the Spokane City Line bus route around the downtown core to stop at bars in each city council district, where we’ll all gather to talk about local issues, meet new people and organize. For the last two years in a row, legislation — a land use ordinance and a cooperative resolution — has even been developed out of conversations had during the crawl!

Meet us at Pacific Avenue Pizza at 6 PM! Our next 2 stops are JADE and then Community Pint.

Get your tickets (pay what you can) now or at the door. We hope to see you there.

Question Great fun place for 18th birthday around Spokane?

Hi All,

We moved to Mead in June of this year. It's been a rough 1 year for our family but we are getting through it. Our oldest daughter turns 18 this Saturday she is super excited and we want to make it great for her. Is there any cool places we can take her for dinner or fun that are really different? Any other ideas we'd appreciate it. Thank you!

Question Electrician recommendations for requiring old house

I recently bought a house in the Rockwood neighborhood that was built in the 1920 that unfortunately has knob and tube and just generally old wiring.

Has anyone worked with any local electricians to rewire their house and would recommend them?

Politics 5th new sales tax of Mayor Brown’s tenure.

Mayor Brown proudly wears her economist cap and never shy about mentioning her background in economics but in her nearly 2 years as mayor Spokane is bout to impose it’s 5th new sales tax.

11/5/2024 .1% sales tax for police, fire, and municipal courts.

11/5/2024 .1% sales tax for juvenile detention and jails. (city does not have a jail)

8/4/2026 .2% sales tax for STA.

10/6/2026 .1% sales tax for criminal justice and public safety.

10/14/2026. .1% sales tax for community safety and mental health.

These are in addition to 2 city utility tax increases, City Park Tax, and Spokane Public School Tax.

Then you have the state’s expansion of sales taxes to includes previously untaxed services and an additional 6 cents of tax per gallon of fuel.

All of these taxes are regressive tax, that means that all of these taxes place the biggest burden on the poorest people in our community.

You would think that they only possible means of addressing budget issues to is to raises taxes on the poorest people and that simply is not true.

When Mayor Brown was elected it was my hope that she would bring intelligent creative solutions to the table but that is far from what she is delivering.

The STA sales tax could have easily been replaced by advertising on STA buses, or the STA could stop giving discounts to colleges and universities through the UTAP program or some combination of the two.

The city could also start creating jobs and generate income by imposing sanctions on abandon properties. Using abatement codes or nuisance abatement codes the city could impose fines a fees on properties that are not maintained properly by the owners. This would create jobs, and increase revenue while addressing nuisance properties in the city. Imposing a progressive registration fee on chronic vacant storefronts, abandoned commercial buildings, or speculative land investments incentivizes development and penalizes out-of-state corporate property flippers. Targeted sales taxes or surcharge on tickets on commercial entertainment venues, the arena, sporting events at our new venue(s) captures spending from out-of-town visitors.

I am sure that there are other ways of increasing revenue without constantly increasing regressive taxes that place the biggest burden on the poorest people and surely our ECONOMIST mayor with a strong academic background would be a much better person to come up with some creative solutions than I can come up with over coffee and donuts.
