I'm a first-time watcher and currently on Season 8. I have no hate toward the writers, but honestly, Season 7 might be one of the most badly written seasons I've watched so far.
Let's start with the positives. Kara was excellent casting, and Laura Vandervoort did a great job! Her cousin-like sibling dynamic with Clark was really well done, and their chemistry was great. I also loved how Lionel was handled this season, especially his relationship with Clark. There were moments when I couldn't fully trust him, which made his character interesting. Chloe was great as always, Lois was good, and Jimmy was another highlight. I really liked his relationship with Chloe, too. My favorite episodes were Bizarro, Siren, Persona, and Apocalypse, with Apocalypse being my absolute favorite.
Now, onto the negatives. Oh boy, there are quite a few. The whole idea of humans predicting the arrival of a Kryptonian felt strange to me, even though I liked the long-term setup. The device that could control Clark was also an interesting idea, but at times, the season felt like it was setting itself up for a series finale, which was a weird feeling when there was still more story to tell. Lionel's death felt sudden, and I wish his character had gotten a better send-off.
And Clark and Lana's relationship was getting SO tiring. The constant on-and-off drama and endless will-they-won't-they storyline felt dragged out. Brainiac also didn't feel like a proper villain to me this season.
But my biggest problem was Lex discovering Clark's secret. After seven seasons of buildup, I expected a much bigger reaction, more shock, and a proper emotional confrontation. Instead, it happened so suddenly, and Lex immediately went to the whole "I have to destroy you; it's my destiny" thing. Dude, WHAT? 😭 They could have done so much more with this moment!
Finally, Lana leaving Clark genuinely made me a little emotional, especially when Clark watched her video. Both actors did a great job in that scene.
Overall, Season 7 had some great characters, performances, and individual episodes, but the writing felt incredibly uneven. I'd give it around 6.5–7.5/10. Again, this is just my opinion as a first-time watcher. What do you guys think?
