We all pay 5% USOF tax in every recharge. That fund is now Rs 80,000+ crore. Where is it?

Thumbnail
2 Upvotes

Every time you recharge Rs 349, Rs 17 goes to USOF to provide internet in rural India.

This fund has been collected since 2002.
Govt used it for BharatNet — 6.9 lakh km fiber to 2.14 lakh panchayats. Fiber is READY till panchayat.

But last mile? 0. Only 44M homes have fiber in India.

So the middle-mile is rotting, last-mile is not done, and fund keeps growing.

Why not use 1 year of USOF to give free 10 Mbps to homes? Instead of free ration only, give free internet for 1 year and let people get digital.

❓HELP Abuser cut off my WiFi

I am currently in the middle of a domestic violence situation where he has been removed from my home, and the only thing that was in his name was the WiFi / router stuff. I’m having to (emergency) move, work and deal with legal crap on top of everything else, and he knows I have to do work from home so he shut it off to spite me. I don’t plan on being here much longer, maybe another week or at most until the end of the month, but I do need the internet for my job and for a lot of the calls I need to make. Is there a service that’s offered for pay as you go internet or things for situations like these ? I’m too exhausted to set up another account and I don’t really have the time to mess with a whole lot at the moment. I’m already stressed to the max. Thanks for any help!

Which internet is best around Nakkhu Dobato?

Hey guys! Which ISP would you recommend around Nakkhu Dobato, Lalitpur?

We’ll be using it on around 4 devices, one laptop, and maybe a TV too, mostly for regular browsing, YouTube, Netflix, coding, etc.

I’m confused between WorldLink, Vianet, DishHome, Classic Tech, and others.

If you live around this area, which one are you using, and how’s your experience?

Also, how’s the customer service and monthly price?

Would love to hear your honest opinions. Thanks!

[Update] Zero-ColdStart bridge & hardened session stability for 24/7 setups (v1.2.0 live)

hey everyone,

quick follow up to my previous posts about the android-to-pc usb routing tool.

got some really helpful feedback and dms from folks running this on mini pcs, headless boxes, and home setups where the phone stays plugged in as a continuous 24/7 connection. a couple of people pointed out that adapter detection occasionally lagged right after a cold pc boot, and stopping or resetting the bridge could sometimes leave lingering background processes behind.

spent the last couple of days optimizing the routing bridge and pushed v1.2.0 (Zero-ColdStart & Resilient Engine update) to github yesterday.

what changed in v1.2.0:

- launch optimization (zero-coldstart): streamlined bridge initialization so the virtual wintun interface hooks immediately on pc boot without waiting on adapter polling

- hardened session stability & clean teardown: improved usb bridge session handling and enforced strict lifecycle cleanup so disconnecting never leaves orphan/lingering processes behind

- full backward compatibility: works seamlessly with existing TetherLink_Mobile_v1.1.1 setups

if you rely on cellular data for your home setup or daily rig, feel free to check out the updated build on github and see if the startup feels smoother on your end:

github: https://github.com/tetherlink-team/TetherLink/releases

quick setup for linux:

chmod +x TetherLink_Installer.run

sudo ./TetherLink_Installer.run

sudo tetherlink

curious to hear your thoughts, logs, or feedback if anyone gets a chance to test it out.

🔌 Provider Specific Just wanted to share for shits and giggles, you never know!

As the title says! I dont think this counts as spam or advertising but please let me know if I am wrong and I will delete immediately!

Also for anyone thinking about using Starlink I can say is it has worked very well for me other than severe rain storms!

Otherwise just on the ground pointed at the sky in the right direction has been top notch! Price isn't to cheap cheap but isn't overly crazy either and beats having people come out to run lines for me personally

Here is my referral link if anyone wants to use it

Get $100 in cash or Starlink service credit when you sign up through this link. Fast, reliable internet at home and on the go. Terms apply.

❓HELP Tri-Carrier Cellular Internet

We recently moved to an area with no wired internet. The one satellite company out here that isn't Starlink wanted to cut down a bunch of trees on our dime. We currently have T-Mobile Home WiFi BUT it's the "lite" package which means we are just out of range of the closest tower and we pay like $60 a month for like 100mbs and usually run out a week before the end of the billing period. The only Starlink plan our area qualifies for is the $130 whole home whatever and that's not in our budget. I have been seeing ads for a bunch of companies that do tri-carrier 5g/WiFi and wanted to find some real world feedback before plunking down a bunch of money to try one. Also, it's really hard to do research for internet options when you barely have 4g. Does anyone use one of these companies? Price? How has your experience been? I need something plug and go I am not gizmo inclined please and thank you 🙂

Moved back to my hometown to work from home, and finding a reliable broadband connection has become a nightmare

I moved back to my hometown in Assam and started working from home. Before moving, I did some research to find the best broadband provider in my area. Turns out, there was pretty much only one option: NGC Broadband.

Well, what a mistake that turned out to be.

  1. NGC Broadband: Where customer service doesn't exist

The first red flag came right after installation. I started using the connection, but I never received an SMS or email confirming my subscription. No welcome message, no account details, nothing.

A few days later, I experienced my first LOS (Loss of Signal). I called the guy who installed the connection, and guess what? His phone was switched off.

It took TWO DAYS to get the connection fixed.

And this became the pattern. Whenever I faced an LOS issue, the installer was either unreachable, his phone was switched off, or he simply wouldn't pick up.

  1. Apparently, I'm not even a customer

When my first recharge was due, I tried to figure out how to renew the connection myself.

Remember, I hadn't received any SMS or email about my subscription. So I visited their website, found their customer portal, and tried the "Forgot Password" option.

My phone number wasn't registered.

I called their customer care, and they told me that neither my phone number nor my name existed in their database.

Let that sink in. I'm using their internet, paying for their service, but according to their own customer support, I don't exist.

The funniest part? They still confidently told me to contact the local guy for the recharge.

I asked him how I could recharge online myself. His answer? There's no way to do that. I have to pay him directly.

No bill. No invoice. No payment confirmation. Nothing. Just transfer the money and wait.

And after paying, it takes another 4–5 hours for the connection to resume.

To make things worse, he doesn't even inform me when my monthly plan expires. Sometimes I forget about the recharge, suddenly discover that my internet isn't working, and then have to start calling him again.

And you can probably guess what happens next. Switched-off phone, unanswered calls, or unnecessary delays.

  1. The speed is another joke

Initially, I subscribed to their 30 Mbps plan, but I was getting around 8–10 Mbps most of the time. Occasionally, it crossed 20 Mbps.

I thought upgrading might solve the problem, so I moved to their 80 Mbps plan.

Now I get around 30–40 Mbps.

At this point, I'm not even sure what I'm paying for.

  1. Thought Jio AirFiber would save me. Apparently not.

After dealing with all this nonsense, I finally decided to switch to Jio AirFiber.

I contacted them, and the sales team was super confident.

"Yes, sir, we'll come today."

"We'll complete your KYC in the morning."

"Our technician will install it by the afternoon."

They came in the morning, inspected the location, completed the KYC process, and collected ₹2,200 as the booking amount. I was told the connection would be installed by that evening.

Sounds great, right?

Well, SURPRISE!

It's been a week, and I've heard absolutely nothing.

I called them today, and the response was basically: "Brother, please wait. Our machine hasn't arrived yet. I'll call you when it does."

WHAT?

Why collect the booking amount and promise same-day installation if your equipment hasn't even arrived?

Now I'm stuck waiting for a connection that was supposed to be installed a week ago, while still dealing with my existing ISP.

Honestly, I'm exhausted.

I moved back home to work remotely, and a reliable internet connection is literally essential for my job. Instead, I have to worry about whether my internet will work, whether someone will answer the phone if it stops working, and whether I'll randomly lose half a day waiting for a connection to come back.

I've heard stories about other ISPs where customers can't even access their router's advanced settings despite paying for the service. And here I am, struggling to get the most basic things right: a proper customer account, transparent billing, reliable speeds, and support that actually responds.

I know no service is perfect, but why does getting a basic broadband connection have to be this frustrating?

So, people of Reddit, what should I do now?

Should I wait for Jio AirFiber, or is this a sign of what their service will be like after installation?

Are there any other reliable broadband providers in Assam, especially around smaller towns?

Is there any way to get NGC to register my account properly, provide bills, and stop making me depend entirely on one local installer?

I just want a stable internet connection that I can pay for online, get a proper receipt for, and forget about until the next billing cycle.

Apparently, that's too much to ask.
