[META] Sub changing direction: Defining what "Random" means.
Back when I became a moderator of this sub, it was tiny and was mostly bizarre nonsense questions, like "What if everyone in the world jumped at the same time?" The sub description advised us to treat these bizarre questions as if they were totally serious.
Since then, we've grown to over 20,000 members (which is insane), and that original "silly nonsense questions" theme has been lost. It's become a free-for-all of any question under the sun. We're being used as a budget alternative for other big subs like r/Advice, r/AskReddit, r/AmItheAsshole, r/TooAfraidToAsk, or r/WhatIsThisThing. We've also become a target for bots looking to build karma and build a believable history. Frankly, it's hard to manage.
The moderation team has discussed it, and we want to distinguish ourselves from these subs, and also from places like r/question and r/ask that allow questions on any topic. We'd like to go back to our roots of silly nonsense questions.
From now on, "random" doesn't mean "anything goes". "Random questions" are now defined as questions that are silly, bizarre, crazy, or out of nowhere. And the comments must treat them as if they were serious questions.
The answer to a random question must not matter. If it matters, the question is not a good fit for this sub. This sub was never intended to give advice, tell you what apps your partner has on his phone, explain why people dress in certain ways, tell you if something is safe to eat or if you're sick, or reassure you that you're a normal human being. We just want to have fun and answer whatever nonsense you think up in the shower or when you're enjoying the special brownies.
We're not going to remove posts that are already here, but new posts must fit this rule. If the moderators decide that the answer will make a difference somehow or the question is too "normal", we will remove it. We'll do our best to guide posters to other subs that might better fit that question, but we're not a Reddit directory.
We're also hoping this new direction will make it clearer why the moderation team is removing certain posts.
Thanks for bearing with us while we make this change.

I had a weird thought today - if you start dating someone and let's say one of you is 17 and the other is 16, then one year later does your relationship become illegal?
Cuz technically, the next year one of you will be 18 and the other 17. Which is illegal no? One is a minor and one is an adult. I mean not that I think it's problematic or anything, it's just weird to me.
Also, does that mean that, if the 17-year-old wants to ruin the 18-year-old's life, they can just say that the 18-yo has been sleeping with a minor, which is illegal? I mean that would be totally ridiculous but it seems to me like that could be a problem for the 18-yo if their partner wants to hurt them.
I know nothing about what laws regulate this stuff.

What is going on with AI slop EVERYWHERE?
IM OVER IT, I’m 30 this year💿
YouTube feels boring lately, I open Facebook stories and I scroll once twice everything is predicable or so slop so I stop and close the app.
Reddit feels like it’s turning into this boring feed and the answers lately feel so generic there’s no common human feel on half of them.
YouTube shorts are slightly good but damn they’re getting over saturated with the auto made videos with magical subtitles
My local restaurants and businesses are using AI slop to make their ads I can barely understand the advertisements because it’s a lot of crap on one poster.
Like your a kebab store using AI photos of food, it’s not even food it’s AI generated crap. Wtf are you thinking
Facebook community all use the same generic AI made advertising for lash companies etc
I know there’s a lot more to it but fk I’m getting so bored of the AI and predictability of stories I turn my phone off and play with my dogs, it feels amazing to invest time off the phone and bringing attention back to reality.
Help me figure out wtf is going on or am I just getting over it?

What's a small thing that secretly makes you happy? 🌻
Not everything that makes us happy has to be something big.
Sometimes it's getting a message from someone you weren't expecting, listening to your favourite song at the right moment, having a good conversation, or simply sitting alone with your thoughts.
I feel like everyone has a little thing that makes their day better, even if nobody else understands why. 🥹
What's that one small thing that can instantly make you happy, no matter how your day is going? ❤️

Is American college life actually like it is in movies, or have I been lied to my entire life? 😭
I've been watching American movies and TV shows for years, and one thing I've always been obsessed with is the college experience they portray.
I'm talking about students living in dorms, having part-time jobs, going to house parties, hooking up, joining random clubs, attending college football games, getting involved in secret societies, and somehow managing to study in between all of this. 💀
It looks like college is not just a place to get a degree but an entire life experience where you make friends, get into stupid situations, fall in love, make questionable decisions, and collect stories you'll remember for the rest of your life.
Now, obviously, I know movies exaggerate things. Nobody is throwing a massive party every other night while maintaining a 4.0 GPA. But I'm genuinely curious about how much of this is actually real.
For those of you who've attended college in the US, I have a few questions:
Is the whole dorm life and constantly hanging out with friends actually a thing, or is everyone mostly busy with their own lives?
Are house parties, hookups, and spontaneous late-night adventures really that common?
Do students actually participate in clubs, college sports, fraternities, sororities, and other campus activities, or is that mostly a movie thing?
How common is it to have a part-time job while studying and still have time for a social life?
And most importantly, do you actually look back at college as some of the best years of your life, or is that just Hollywood selling us a fantasy?
For context, I'm from India, where university life can feel very different depending on the college. Sometimes it feels like the entire experience revolves around attending lectures, preparing for exams, worrying about placements, and going home. Obviously, people have fun here too, but the version of college life shown in American media feels like a completely different universe to me.
I've honestly been fascinated by that lifestyle for years. The idea of living independently, meeting different kinds of people, making friends from scratch, going to parties, joining clubs, and having experiences beyond academics sounds amazing to me.
So, American college students and graduates, give me the reality check. 😭
How much of what we see in movies and TV shows resembles your actual experience? Even if only 30% of it is real, I'd love to hear what college life is genuinely like over there.
And please don't just tell me that movies are fake. I know they are. 😂 I'm interested in hearing about your actual experiences, the good and the bad.

At which point in his career did Taylor Sheridan go off the rails?
I had more to say but Reddit blocked it. He used to write genuinely engaging stories. Now everything feels like a segment from "Team America"

Does anybody else pretend like they’re cooking on Chopped when they’re in their kitchen making something?
My WFH job is issuing us 45 minute lunch periods this week since it’s a busy week for the line of work we support and I just zipped and zoomed in my kitchen starting this Hamburger Vegetable Beef Soup (link if interested: https://www.southyourmouth.com/2012/11/hamburger-vegetable-beef-soup.html?m=1) and had a timer for 40 min so that I could make it back to my desk in time and had the Chopped montages playing in my head to keep me amused 😂
Just wondering if anybody else does this 🙂

How is it even possible that the new ballroom could cost as much as it's projected to?
I've seen remarks that it's due to cost somewhere between $4-600 million and I genuinely do not understand how that's even possible. Even at 100m you'd think it would be made of solid rare earth metals and free guest wifi. My experience with construction costs are fairly limited but when literal beach front mansions only cost a few million dollars how does one big room cost so much?

What’s the weirdest non-fitness item in your workout corner?
A home gym can end up with some unexpected essentials: a doorstop, an old towel, a kitchen timer. What ordinary household item has found a permanent place in your workout setup, and what do you use it for?

How long will it take for this scar to not be this sensible anymore? (NSFW just in case) NSFW Spoiler
roughly 2 months ago i slipped on a rather fragile window while drunk at a party and i cut myself in my left arm and wrist, luckily i didn't cut anything important and the friends there were really helpful with my injuries (my dumbass alone would've died trying to suck out the blood like when you get scratched by a cat bruh😭).
It's been like a month since i've taken out the stitches and everything, and it doesn't surprise me that the scars are still sensible, especially the wrist one, since i am no stranger to getting scars.
But i was wondering how long it will take for it to become less annoying, i have this sort of fixation for my body, I feel uncomfortable when i am mostly naked, thus why i love long sleeves and long pants, this gets to a point where i scratch my forearms regularly when wearing short sleeves or when naked in general, i hate feeling naked, i can put up with it but it's not comfortable especially if i think about it.
This scar is a big problem for me because it's very sensible and every time i slightly touch something with it my whole body screams, not in pain but i can't quite describe it, just writing this my right wrist and forearms are itching 😭
