Question China Eastern (MU) flight booked through Qantas ticket issue.

Hi everyone,

I booked a cash ticket for a China Eastern (MU) flight in December directly on the Qantas website 48 hours ago. I received a booking reference (PNR), but the status is empty and I still haven't received an e-ticket number or confirmation email.

I've called Qantas customer service multiple times, but the reps just keep telling me they are waiting on China Eastern to process and confirm the segment on their end since the booking is waitlisted.

The problem is that current ticket prices for these flights have quadrupled since I booked, so canceling and rebooking somewhere else is not an option.

Has anyone experienced this delay with cash codeshare/interline bookings between Qantas and China Eastern?

How long did it take for the partner airline to process/confirm the space?

Appreciate any advice on how to get past the generic call center responses.

Thanks!

Question Etiquette Check

Curious to know what the general vibe is. I was on a smaller flight (Dash 8-Q400) and in the aisle seat. The other passenger had already seated but was a big guy (I don't necessarily mean overweight/obese but definitely had a big frame). I sat down and buckled in and he was already partially on my seat. Turns out he lifted the middle arm rest and his shoulder was blocking it. We didn't really interact and it looked like he was doing what he could do to minimize the inconvenience but basically I was pushed to 2/3 my seat and occasionally had to dodge his elbow a few times if he used the tray table or unbuckled. Not to mention the leg space but thankfully I'm short.

In the grand scheme its not a huge issue and a short flight but I wondered where do people put their frustrations/expectations on this.

Should he be booking differently around this? Should he not have touched the middle arm rest or should have I made a point of wanting it back down? Should we be annoyed at Qantas for the seats? Or although a pretty packed flight should I've tried to move seats? What are people thoughts about this sort of thing in general?

Question Question on baggage for North America flights (NYC)

My wife and I are taking the Qantas JFK-SYD flight in the spring on a rewards ticket (economy). We have another rewards flight back from Auckland-JFK. (A separate flight during our trip to get to NZ for the flight home)

Anyway, I assumed a standard reward ticket for an economy international trip like this would include a checked bag, carry on overhead bag and a backpack for under the seat.

There is a glitch on the Qantas website that gives me an error when looking at the baggage for my itinerary and refers me to the baggage page.

Baggage page seems to indicate that we get a checked bag and an overhead bag with a small personal item like a purse. It strictly calls out a backpack as an under the seat bag which seems we don't get. A little different than standard USA airline defining a backpack as not being a personal item.

My question is for people that have flown from NYC is this strictly enforced? It seems like we should just pay to check our actual carry on bags and then our backpacks will be considered the overhead bag. If we can get away with it, we'd like to just bring a checked bag each, standard wheeled overhead carry on each, and both have a backpack. No complaints if we do have to pay to check our carry on, I was just a little surprised at the baggage situation.

Question JetKids BedBox

We are flying direct from Sydney to Sapporo in Late December and I wanted to know if anyone has had any luck using a jetkids Bedbox on the plane?

We're seated right down the back taking up all 3 of our rows seats so I don't think we would be hindering anyone's access or anything and I have read previously that it is all up to the discretion of the crew these days.

It's a bummer that virgin have already changed their policy on the BedBox's but qantas is dragging their feet.

News Bed bugs ground Qantas Rome-to-Perth flight

Thumbnail
smh.com.au
228 Upvotes

An outbreak of bed bugs has forced the cancellation of a Qantas flight from Rome to Perth, delaying some passengers by as much as two days.

The drama began when passengers aboard QF5 travelling from Perth to Rome on October 9 complained of being bitten by bugs. On medical advice, they were given antihistamines, but the plane reportedly ran out.

The return flight, QF6 from Rome to Perth on Saturday, was cancelled and the Boeing 787 Dreamliner booked for cleaning.

Passengers were given accommodation and rebooked on alternative flights within 48 hours of their original departure, Qantas said.

A spokesperson for the airline said: “We sincerely apologise to customers for the cancellation of Saturday’s Rome to Perth service, which allowed our engineers and maintenance teams to carry out a deep clean of the aircraft after an issue was identified on a small number of economy seats.”

Qantas said its aircraft cabins are cleaned regularly and to an extremely high standard.

A deep clean of a plane to rid it of bed bugs requires fumigation, taking the plane out of service.

The airline said that as a matter of course, Qantas aircraft are disinfected every 50 days as a precaution.

Question Lost luggage contact

Hi, recently flew into Sydney via Los Angeles and our luggage never made it here. We reported in arrivals and were told it was being routed through Melbourne and then on to Sydney.

We are trying to figure out whether our bags even made it to Melbourne or when we are likely to get them, but we don’t have an Australian number so can’t call them on 1300 306 980. We fly out of Sydney in 48 hours.

Is there any kind of online chat we could use to contact them instead?

Thanks!

Edit: Hotel reception made the call for us and we have both bags back! Thanks for the advice all

Question Expired British passport, valid Australian - UK Travel.

Hi,

I have an expired British passport issued 10 years ago on November 03. My Australian passport is valid. I fly 18/11.

According to the laws in the UK, if you're a dual citizen, you need valid passports for each country , however, there is a concession. Airlines can accept an expired British passport alongside a valid Australian passport.

I do not have time to renew my British, an emergency travel document will take too long to process, given my passport will have only just expired.

GOV.UK – Travelling with an expired UK passport

UK Home Office – Dual citizenship guidance

Under "When you can travel with an expired UK passport", the government states:

- Your carrier (for example your airline) may allow you to travel if you have both:

an expired UK passport, issued in 1989 or later

a valid passport for one of the nationalities that can get an ETA

This is due to a family situation not terrible planning!

Does anyone know if Qantas allow this concession?

Thanks in advance!

Question Qantas Travel Insurance

Hi all!

I am thinking of buying travel insurance through Qantas as the price seems reasonable. I am heading to Singapore for 5 days in Feb. Has anyone had any good/bad experiences when making a claim and are there any better options for travel insurance? Thank you for your help.

Question Qantas Internship

Hello I have just done an interview with Qantas for Future Talent operations internship. It's mainly for a career in HR Management since I've done intern work. Just note I have Autism and ADHD, and am currently in my second year at CQUniversity studying online. I wonder who has been an intern at Qantas and what careers have you chosen since you've done an internship with Qantas.

News No amenity pack overnight - Singapore to Sydney

Qantas Qf82 Sin-Syd. 45 delay leaving Singapore at 00:14. Everyone packed into a small lounge like cattle. Zone 1/2 had the same size seating area which was almost empty compared to zone 3/6. So 7hrs later they pop the nastiest blue fluro lights on like your junky under a bridge in the city, and serve possibly the worst and laziest breakfast of any international 8hr flight I’ve ever been on. A small processed pastry full of numbers, palm oil and preservatives, complimented by cold coffee and a napkin. The napkin the kind you get at truck stops. What a joke this airline has become. They jack the prices, and devalue the points for this crap. Forget about any kind of upgrade unless you’re platinum. No matter how many you have. The economy seats on the A330 are literally designed to break you. Avoid the worn out and filthy toilets. No wifi and terrible selection of films and tv. Domestic flights have better seats. These are tiny, cramped and super uncomfortable.
Qantas has to be one of the all time worst now. A special thank you to the staff who are without a doubt the laziest and rudest. When did it become normalised to have no amenity pack whatsoever on an international overnight flight. At almost 4K for an economy class ticket to Europe. LOL, and the staff look at you like you have insulted them when someone asks for an eye mask or ear plugs. Do yourself a favour and fly anyone else but this flying garbage truck.

Question Melbourne to Osaka (Qantas domestic → Jetstar international)

Hi all,

I have a flight coming up QF420 Melbourne to Sydney arrival 9:45 then JQ13 Sydney Osaka 12pm all on same booking bought using classic rewards.

Now I called Qantas and Jetstar and they both told me I need to collect my bags in Sydney and check in again but on Jetstar website says Qantas domestic to Jetstar international baggage is all the way through. And on reddit I saw same thing. So I'm very confused

1- will my baggage gets checked from Melbourne to Osala all the way or need to collect in Sydney?

2- if need to collect, is the connection time OK? As Jetstar close baggage drop at 10?

Any help is appreciated thanks

Question Baggage Missing for 21 Days DFW>SYD. NEED HELP

Our suitcase has now been missing for 21 days after flying DFW → SYD → BNE, and I'm hoping someone here has dealt with a similar situation and knows how to get beyond the general Qantas baggage call centre.

When we arrived in Sydney, all our other bags arrived but our pelican case didn't. The team there said to file a case with us, as we had a connecting flight to catch and that the bag would be forwarded to Brisbane. The container got scanned at 8:14 just after we got through customs and they considered that it had arrived, it just had to be found located in the airport and forwarded.

But after calling back a lot of times it became apparent that they did not know where the bag was and have not been getting through to the Sydney international team at all. The call was always "Their voicemail is full, we'll try them again later/leave a message"

The bag contains equipment I need for work. I told Qantas this on day one and was told the case had been marked “urgent”. We were super rushed when packing and completely forgot to add the air-tag to this one... Never again.

We have updated description and even have a photo of it in the World Tracer app. It's got very noticeable stickers on it.

For the first couple of weeks we were essentially just told to wait, and we kept calling to get more info but much of the same.

Eventually I started investigating it myself and called a whole bunch of different people, the only way I could get onto the Sydney team was by calling one of the other baggage handling teams who had a super helpful girl who went to their office to actually check for us. She said that they couldn't find anything in their storage areas or any of the other ones. I ended up going to Brisbane Airport to try get any information in person along with a contact for somebody who can try help us figure out wtf is actually happening and ended up getting a number to talk to someone who works with Qantas baggage in Sydney.

Sydney looked into the movements and gave us they believe it's possible the bag was removed from its container at DFW without receiving the appropriate scan. They recommended a physical search at Dallas, including unidentified/tagless baggage.

So then I call the Dallas Qantas number and they inform me that they can't action anything because it's on the Brisbane team to action. There is no number for a Brisbane team to call and I talked to the lady at the baggage claim desk about it but she had no answers.

So the problem now is getting someone to actually take ownership of that lead.

I feel as though since this began, it only actually started being investigated in the last few days and now the bag is considered lost.

I've asked Qantas Baggage Services to have the physical search actioned, but I can't seem to reach anyone who actually owns the case or can tell me what's being investigated. Meanwhile, people from other baggage-handling companies have actually been incredibly helpful trying to point me in the right direction.

This has been an exhausting ordeal and I'm not even sure where to go from here and I'm at my wits end.

I'm not looking for compensation advice at this point. I genuinely want the bag back.

Has anyone had a Qantas bag remain missing this long and eventually recovered it?

More importantly, is there actually a Qantas baggage tracing/investigations team or case manager that I can somehow get this escalated to?

I have the PIR, baggage tag, photographs, complete itinerary etc. I just need to get them in front of someone who can actually investigate the DFW lead

UPDATE: Have called the call centre again and they say they have escalated it with their manager and that they will get the night shift team to call, but I am not super hopeful.

Question Domestic flight from & to international terminals

Hi all!

I’m considering taking QF10 later this year from PER to MEL as it’s operated by a 787, rather than the usual 737 used on domestic services. Since QF10 departs from and arrives at the international terminal, would using the international terminal make the experience significantly more complicated or inconvenient compared with a normal domestic flight? For example, is navigating bio-security checkpoint & immigration a hassle if I’m only travelling PER–MEL domestically?

News Qantas to remove Melbourne based crews for Melbourne to Singapore flights

Have been advised Qantas trying to lower standards even more and save money will soon be removing Melbourne based crews from Singapore/Melbourne sector being replaced with Singapore based crews. This is purely a money saving measure that again shows Qantas is not an Australian Airline and does not regard Australian jobs as being important at all.

Question Baggage limits for codeshare

I'm flying LAX->SYD->ZQN next week on Qantas, but the tickets were purchased through American and both flights have AA flight numbers on my ticket.

Will I have to follow Qantas baggage limits (7kg total carry on weight) or AA ones (no weight limit)?
