Question What's the best thing to do if you account is compromised?

I'll call customer service but what should I ask them to do?

In the last couple of days I've received a couple of emails that someone updated my details in my Velocity account - and it definitely wasn't me. I logged in and changed my password.

Today I got a 2FA SMS with a 6 digit code, again it wasn't me.

I don't trust this account or their security, what's the best thing to do? Thanks

Question Flight Centre Voucher + VFF points

Just wondering if there is an effective way to combine a Flight Centre Voucher and VFF points.

My wife has a $1000 flight centre voucher and we have about 500k points between us (accrued from Credit Cards - not from flying - we haven’t done a lot of flying).

We were hoping to go on a holiday next winter (probably Aug 2027) to Bali/Fiji/SE Asia. It would be 4 of us (2 adults and 2 kids - 7yo and 5yo) and stay somewhere where there are a lot of kids activities (so that it can be a holiday for us too!)

Could we do something like buy economy seats using the voucher and see if we can upgrade seats using points closer to the time?

Could trying to use points end up a problem when flying with 4 people due to possible cancellation/delays/getting kicked off flights?

Help Finding Flights Mixed class booking

Hoping for some assistance. Trying to book flights from Munich-Singapore-Brisbane where the first leg is avail on economy but the 2nd is only avail in business so I want go economy from SIN-BNE but via SYD/MEL.

I keep hearing things about calling the membership hotline but they keep saying its impossible and tickets must be booked separately, they cant be pieced together into 1 itinerary. Surely this cant be right if they're both in the same class?

Review How is it possible to cook rice so badly??

I’m honestly amazed at how consistently awful the rice and pasta served in the lounges are. It doesn’t matter which lounge or which day, the pasta is always soggy, and the rice an odd mushy texture which, on closer inspection, seems to consist of fragments of grains rather than whole grains of rice.

Today, instead of the usual curry with mushy rice, they had mushy fried rice. It was swimming in a bain-marie of oil, but I tried it anyway – and again, it’s made entirely from very short bits of rice that seem to be broken grains. Are they just buying scraps and fragments leftover from the milling process because it’s the cheapest possible option?

It’s all the more mystifying when you consider that the pasta and the rice served on board in business class are actually okay. Why is it so bad on the ground?

I miss the slices of pizza that they used to bring around the lounge (and which I haven’t seen for a few months now) – simple, hot and fresh. And while on a positive note, they were serving tortillas with chilli con carne last week, and they tasted quite okay. It can be done.

Yes, I know it’s not a restaurant. Yes, I know it’s a first-world problem. Yes, I know I could just eat outside the lounge. But if airlines are going to provide hot food to travellers who typically spend enough to have lounge access, they could at least provide food that is palatable. It doesn’t even have to be that fancy. And it’s not that bloody hard to cook rice properly.

Question Velocity Explore

Am I completely missing something?

When I go into my Velocity app, at the bottom of the page where it says Plan a trip, press Explore and it shows how many points you need for each destination.

For example, when I select Return from Brisbane, 2 people, Economy Reward Seat, it says it is 35,600 points to Hobart.
When I select Return from Brisbane, 1 person, Economy Reward Seat, it says it is 17,800 points to Hobart.

But when I looked online and then when I called Virgin to book return flights, Brisbane to Hobart, 2 people, Economy Reward Seat, it’s apparently 70 odd thousand points + $100?

I’ve been tracking my points for months to save the 35,600 points and now apparently it’s not enough. Has my app been glitching all this time? What am I missing? 😭

Question AMEX Velocity Platinum expiring — what should I switch to?

My AMEX Velocity Platinum is about to expire, and I'm considering switching to the AMEX Velocity Escape Plus for $95/year.

I mainly want to keep earning Velocity Points, but I'm also open to other cards that offer good savings, cashback or benefits. Given how difficult it seems to be to get back into AMEX once you leave, I'm hesitant to cancel completely.

Is Escape Plus the best low-fee option for earning Velocity Points, or are there better alternatives?

What would you do?

Question Double status offer before EOY?

Hi all, as the title reads...

Do you think there might be a double status offer before the end of the year?

I know historically I've always had one around March/April, but can't recall any towards end of the year.

Have some January flights to book and was hopeful!

Thanks 🙂

Question Points for Honeymoon

Hi all! My fiancé and I are currently saving up Velocity Points for our honeymoon, which will most likely be in July next year. We’re hoping to escape the Tassie winter and head somewhere warm!

I’m a Velocity Gold member and we currently have around 127,000 points, up from only about 10,000 a couple of months ago. We should be able to build that balance quite a bit more before we need to book.

For those who know the program well, what’s generally the best way to get good value from the points for two people? We’re pretty flexible on destination at this stage and would be open to using partner airlines as well.

Would love to hear where people have used their points for honeymoons or holidays, and whether you’d recommend saving for Business reward seats, using them for Economy, or doing a mix of points and cash.

Cheers!

Help Finding Flights Phantom Qatar awards

Has anyone else been seeing phantom award availability with Qatar flights over the next 30 days?

Have been trying for two weeks to book a seat in business class from europe.

Call centre has said it’s a glitch to saying I’m to keep calling up to try book. Which is great if you have all the time in the world or if the call centre was open 24/7

Question Platinum Plus

Ok, I have just hit platinum plus and have just found out I can gift a platinum status to family / friends.

Once I gift platinum, does the recipient drop to gold after 12 months, then silver and finally back to red? Or, does platinum drop straight back to red status?

Question Status Points to Gold

So I have 120 status points to go before I reach gold. My app tells me that my status resets on 26 November. If it hits 26 Nov and I don’t reach gold does the count reset again or is the 500 status point goal based on a rolling 12 month period?

I’m just trying to work out whether I need to book a random flight to get to 500 by 26 Nov… or whether I have the luxury of waiting and getting gold during my Xmas flights.

Question Krisflyer transfer time

UPDATE - ended up needing to call Singapore Air and they waived the booking fee and booked the flights I needed.

Hi all, I created a Krisflyer account 2.5 days about and transferred velocity points to book a flight. Everytime I go to search a redemption flight on Singapore Air, I get an error saying I don't have enough points despite my points showing. Any thoughts? Maybe it's an account age issue. My husband did the same and could book flights after a few days.

News Virgin Australia, Air New Zealand partnership 2.0?

Thumbnail

Virgin Australia and Air New Zealand are chasing a ‘strategic alliance’ which would deliver frequent flyer points and status perks right across their respective networks.
According to a proposal now under consideration by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC), the two airlines would work even more closely together – and deliver more benefits to passengers – than under their original trans-Tasman alliance.

Question Flying VA Marketed Qatar - Is being Gold worth it?

I thought I had calculated my SCs perfectly this year to hit Gold just before we fly to Europe via Doha - but I’m going to be 20 SCs short.

Obviously too much for a goodwill upgrade, but – for those that have flown Qatar with Gold/Platinum – is it worth doing a quick status run to get the boost before we fly in mid-October?

My other thought is hitting it beforehand will maximise my chances of retaining gold as I’ll have my partner points and credits come through too (I’m already maxed out this year).

Otherwise we’ll hit Gold on the flight over and get the perks on the way back.

Review Built an Aussie rewards app that includes Velocity — looking for feedback

Hey all, I’ve been building an Aussie rewards app called PointFarm and thought this sub would probably be one of the better places to get some proper feedback.

Basically, it helps you compare nearby fuel prices, see what rewards you can earn at different stations, find current bonus point/rewards offers, and choose the programs you actually use so the relevant stuff is easier to spot.

Velocity is one of the main programs in it, along with Qantas, Flybuys, Everyday Rewards etc.

I made it because I was always jumping between different apps/sites trying to work out whether something was actually a good deal once points were factored in.

It’s live on iPhone now and I’m getting Android ready for Google Play. If there are any Android users here who’d be happy to beta test it, I’d really appreciate a few extra testers too.

Mainly just keen to know:
would you actually use something like this?
what feels missing?
what would make it more useful specifically for Velocity members?

Happy to share the App Store link if anyone wants to have a look.
Be as critical as you like — that’s genuinely more useful to me than people just saying it looks good.

Question Velocity points

Hi folks,
With the upcoming credit card changes I’m trying to figure out the best way to continue to collect points.
I have a Visa ANZ Rewards Platinum card and I’m wondering if I can change something with that card to continue to accumulate points or simply cut and run to some other card (even AMEX) for points accumulation.
Thoughts appreciated!

Question Is ordering from the economy class menu included in a business fare?

I’m new to flying business with VA, so far having only flown VARA routes in WA. I’m flying BNE-PER next week and have generally found the meal service to be pretty light, and in the absence of a menu not overly clear on what my options are. Am I able to request items from the economy class menu included in addition to my plated meal and have it included in the fare or will I need to pay à la carte for these?

Have googled as much as I can but doesn’t seem to be a clear answer.

Thanks!

Help Finding Flights How to best use points to get to KUL?

Hi folks, has anyone been able to book using reward points to get to Malaysia/KUL? The Virgin website won't show any results for SYD->KUL for 5ppl.

Obviously it's easy to get to Singapore and then book a seperate flight to KUL. Was hoping to get it booked on one ticket so that we don't have to go through customs / exit/re-enter. Travelling with young family so looking for less hassle.

Any advice?

EDIT: I just realised it shows results for 2ppl searches ..

Points Deal SYD-BNE one way - 9.9k for Economy or 15.5k for Business, which one is overall better value?

Will require checked luggage for this trip which reward seats provide for Economy as well.

It’s sort of a tough choice as I know the lowest fare band for Reward seats in Economy for this route starts at 5.9k…. Ahhh decisions decisions
