Meme Me Up Scotty! Katie Zacharia's first press briefing was brutally bad

My God, it's like watching a sixth-grader struggle through their first public speaking assignment. What a bunch of massive fucking losers modern-day Republicans are.

u/Chance-Deer-7995 1d ago
Trump can not hire anyone that has any competency or any decency. They are silent about it, but even conservatives that have a shred of smarts will not have anything to do with this cabal any more. Other people, like Steven Miller, are just there to bring about as much evil as they can because they will never have a chance like this again. It's an odd situation where even being willing to accept a job with Trump is a reason they shouldn't be allowed to take the job in the first place. And none of these people will have any place in a post-Trump USA just like all the people who took jobs in the first administration save a couple who went on to lead southern states.

They are all MAGA Hires®.
A DEI Hire, which inflames the Right, was about a qualified candidate's melanin content or chromosome combination.
A MAGA Hire®, is quite different, in that they are COMPLETELY UNQUALIFIED. All they need is The One BIG Thing©:
SLOBBERING, SLAVISH EXTERNAL (although internal is of course, preferred) DEVOTION TO DEAR LEADER. That's all.

My early 20s daughter asked me if things were this bad during the first Trump administration.
I explained that 10 years ago, he was able to hire competent (if vile) Republicans, but they quit in droves.
I told her THIS is what happens when it's truly the inmates running the asylum.

Karoline Leavitt is a horrible person and actively lied while doing her job, but she was the best press secretary he ever had, she never looked intimidated, was articulate and had a handle on the questions she was gonna be asked…this girl is gonna fold so quick when pressed with tough questions
96
u/VIP_NAIL_SPA 1d ago
I've yet to see any seriously tough questions asked of his press secretaries.

u/KupoKupoMog 1d ago
Reporter: asks tough question
Trump administration: "you're an un-American liar"
Reporter: "oh ok"
→ More replies (2)49
u/OneRougeRogue 1d ago
Except the "tough question" is something like, "President Trump said he was going to do (thing) 8 or 9 months ago, but he hasn't done it yet. Is (thing) still in the works, or did the administration decide to go in a different direction?"
And the WH will respond to this softball "tough question" as if the reporter was accusing Trump of literally being a vampire.

Leavitt was good at her job, which was to make up lies to dodge questions and massage information in real time.
She was definitely talented at being a POS for the president. This woman is just toooooo slow. Lol
11
u/euphonic5 1d ago
I mean, the press secretary's job is in some part to lie for the President in every administration, but it's usually smaller lies of omission or glossing over the unsavory bits. Leavitt was a stone cold, dyed-in-the-wool liar, though, she's gonna be a hard act to follow for anyone who isn't either a sociopath or a very talented actor.

→ More replies (3)15
u/showhorrorshow 1d ago edited 1d ago
Nerves I understand. But imagine needing a script for your basic opening introduction as press secretary.
Yeah it is good to have a script as a go by to help ground you when needed, but looking down almost the whole time reading the introduction is just pure novice stuff.
It's not even about having a script, memorizing one is bad form too. It's about knowing the material well enough that you can, yaknow, just talk it out. Do you need a script to talk about your favorite videogame? No. Because you can just talk about it. Yeah some highlights and structure are necessary, but that's it. That takes preparation and knowledge, though.

Whatever qualities got her the job it wasn't her public speaking skills. Also the "never seen before" and "record setting attendance" remarks came directly from Donnie's mouth. That kind of language is unique to him.

She trips over her “forked” tongue and does not think fast on her feet, shaky , no confidence voice.Of course that is not the reason she was hired. We’ll see how long this lasts. It's easy to tell that she's intelligent enough to know that she's spouting lies. She had a lot of micro moments where she was wincing physically knowing that she's trying to prop up a failed administration with nothing good to show, then does a big fake rally and cracks the most disingenuine smile I've ever seen, then goes back to the script they have her as fake happy as possible.
Gotta give it to Lyin Caroline, she could tell lies with a straight face like no one else. Both awful people, but at least the last one had some acting skills.

I remember back to the first Trump press conference. I tuned in to see how they would introduce his presidency. I was not a fan of how Trump campaigned but back then I was naive and hopeful that maybe now he would act more presidential since he had been sworn in.
Spicer spent the majority press conference falsely claiming Trump’s inauguration crowd was larger than Obama’s and that’s when I realized these people are not making a serious attempt to govern the country.
