The New Normal

Post image

The nature of the U.S. is already well-known: back in '43, they tried to install the deputy prime minister of the Pétain government as the leader of France because they didn't like De Gaulle; they handed half of Europe over to Stalin just because they wanted to show off and look like the biggest badasses by invading the south of France. But now... Without exaggeration, we are living in the most utterly shameful chapters in modern world history.

Stop Killing Games is raising an alarm against the EU Kids Act. The new law will require user checks for every player in every online game, make private servers illegal, and raise the costs of creating and maintaining titles to prohibitive amounts for independent game developers.

I'm worried

I left my home town about 20 years ago. I’ve stayed in touch ever since. I keep an eye on the community.

Today I learnt that a lad I knew had passed away. When I wanted to share this news with a friend, I found out that two more had died over the last two weeks. All aged between 38 and 40. One was struck down by illness, another by alcohol, and the third took his own life. I’d known them all since childhood.

Look after yourselves, look after your health; don’t dwell on the past, and don’t think too much about the future. Focus on the here and now, on what matters.

Grandfathers pocket knife lost in Poland, how to get it back?

Post image
87 Upvotes

In August i mailed my grandfathers pocket knife from Madeira, Portugal, to my home in Denmark. I put an Airtag in the parcel, and i can see that after arriving at a postage terminal in Denmark, it has somehow ended up in Poland. More precisely in Drawno. I have attached a screenshot. Does anyone have an idea of how i can get it back?

Thanks in advance!

Poland is preparing to pay treasure hunters up to 222,000 zloty (€50,800) for exceptional discoveries under a new law that experts warn could trigger a gold rush and cost the state billions.

The law, due to take effect on January 1, will allow metal-detector enthusiasts to register searches through a dedicated app, replacing a permit system that can take weeks, Polish newspaper Rzeczpospolita reported on Thursday.

I am the first in my bloodline to cook kielbasa in a wok

That’s the funny part. The unfunny part is how badly I butchered the recipe. my father won’t stop yelling and and my mother is sobbing. Dziadek won’t look at me and my Babcia fainted.

For context this is the recipe and this is the adjustments I made:
Replaced the sausage with kielbasa, Except I cubed it (badly) to all hell. Apparently I’m supposed to slice it
Didn’t have a cutting board for that step so I used a paper towel, got paper towel particles in the dish most definitely
Cooked (and burned) everything in a wok because the only pan we have in our new apartment is teeny tiny
That did not stop me from trying to use the cheap tiny pan at first
Some of the kielbasa spilled onto the stove
Disaster
Scooped some of it back up
Started heating the Walmart wok (first time using it btw)
Used olive oil instead of avocado oil like an idiot
Olive oil has a lower smoke point so I set off the smoke detector (Tbf it goes off at everything, and is certainly definitely not a testament to my cooking)
Nearly spilled hot oil on myself
Completely forgot to get the spinach at the store so I just made it without
Added WAY too much Parmesan cheese
Tried to scrape some of the parm back into the container (???)
Made a cheese disaster
And finally, disappointed my ancestors.

It was delicious.

Ministerstwo Finansów looking for digital services: scam or not

Is there anybody who knows how government entities are supposed to choose vendors? I always thought that a tender is a must but there’s a situation that happened and got me wandering if it was a scam.

A guy sent an email to a design agency asking to call him back and saying that Ministerstwo Finansów needs a website. The agency called the guy and he said that he needs a website for a project under the Ministerstwo Finansów, mentioned needs like design and development (he even named a specific, yet outdated technology), and gave a budget. He also said that time is important and the process doesn’t include a tender.
He also asked to send him the sms with the email he’s gonna use to send the meeting link.

It was impossible to find the guy on the net but that’s not surprising.

Imo, it’s suspicious and I would rather expect a different flow and formal things like „request for proposal” , etc. I also think that the meeting link is mentioned too early?

Idk, curious to hear if anybody knows how those things are handled.

AI adoption in Poland and engineering work at Allegro — talks at WAWTech

Hey! Two talks in the WAWTech programme touch on how companies in Poland are using AI:

  • Michal Furmankiewicz will discuss lessons from working with customers in Poland and abroad on GenAI and agent adoption.
  • Piotr Ceranek from Allegro will describe using AI to analyse repositories and backlogs, including the limitations he’s encountered.

WAWTech is a two-day tech conference covering software development, AI and product work. It’s organised by DOU; I’m involved with the team.

The event takes place on 26–27 November 2026 at EXPO XXI in Warsaw. Details here for anyone considering attending.

Jagiellonian University - thoughts on my area of study and adaptation?

Hello! I am an American girl looking to apply to Jagiellonian for my first cycle for the 2027/2028 school year. I want to major in Eastern European Language and Cultures - specifically studying Russian and Polish. To the people who have taken courses at this university learning either Russian or polish: I was wondering the intensity of the classes?

Also, I dont know much about Polish people in general, so I was wondering how different Poles are from Americans? What will be the general attitude be when I’m attempting to speak Polish?

Many people say my major is useless, which isn’t necessarily wrong, but I hope to become a foreign language teacher someday. Whether it be in Poland, America, or even in another country.

Please give me all the advice you have!! Thank you!!

Question on documents: Polish/American living in USA

Hello Everyone,

I'm not sure if this is the right place to post.

I am a Polish American citizen living in the USA. I got married a little while back and sent in documentation to the Polish embassy to have it registered, only to have it sent back to me requesting more information. I also recently gave birth and want to make sure my daughter (3 months) also gets a Polish passport.

How important is it that I register my marriage with the Polish embassy? Should I focus more on getting myself a new passport and applying for my daughter instead? Do you have any good resources for me, preferably with translations (my Polish has deteriorated over my time in the States, and legal language is hard for me to comprehend)?

Any and all advice is deeply appreciated!

Poland is second America?

As a person who lives in Poland, i saw so many takes that Poland is „second America” or „America of Europe” and i don’t really get where it’s coming from. There’s only thing that reminds me of American culture is the influencer stuff, but isn’t it all over Europe? I’d like to hear some opinions on this, whether why you agree or disagree and it’s an interesting topic to discuss. Probably it has been asked before on this subreddit, but i didn’t search it up here
