Discussion The new Plex TV app is horrible

This new app is a slow buggy mess - who signed off on this?

Did the team from Sonos move over to Plex?

Is there anyway to downgrade, or am I just stuck with the awful slow app now?

Probably don't need another one of these posts but I gotta add to the violence.

The app on the Nvidia shield was perfect before. Put it back. I paid for lifetime ages ago and I'm this close to moving to jelly. 🤏

Tips Plex on Carplay using CarTV app

I just came across the CarTV app today.
Added my Plex library and can now watch films and TV shows using CarPlay (direct play).

Has anyone else tried it, or found better apps?

CarTV AppStore link:
https://apps.apple.com/gb/app/cartv-m3u-iptv-player-cast/id6800211040

The app doesn’t mention Plex but it is supported, along with Jellyfin and Emby.

The Plex side is basic, no continue watching, watchlists etc, but have access to the library which is the main thing.

Edit: I watch Plex when I’m parked at lunchtime at work. Don’t watch finding nemo when driving.

Discussion Why are the play and pause buttons backwards?

In the recent UI update, when media is playing, they show the play icon for you to press to pause it, and when it's paused, you select the pause button to play it? I don't think I've seen another media player do it this way.

Help Best client for Plex with HDR10+ and Lossless Audio (TrueHD) Passthrough?

Hey everyone,

I recently built a dedicated Plex server using an old HP desktop (i5-7500) paired with an Intel Arc A380 for hardware transcoding and AV1 support.

Currently, I'm using the built-in Plex app on my Samsung S90D paired with a Samsung HW-Q810B soundbar. However, the TV app often forces audio transcoding to AAC (losing TrueHD/Atmos), and high-bitrate 4K files buffer when direct playing.

I want to plug a client device directly into the soundbar's HDMI IN to get uncompressed audio passthrough while passing 4K HDR10+ through to the TV.

What client are you using for the broadest format support?

Here are my thoughts so far:
Nvidia Shield TV Pro: Great audio support (TrueHD passthrough), but aging hardware, pricey, and lacks HDR10+ support for Samsung TVs. Price 380 dollars with tax.

Amazon Fire TV Cube (3rd Gen): Supports AV1, HDR10+, and audio passthrough in Plex/Kodi, but privacy/UI bloat is a concern. Price 180 dollars

Apple TV 4K: Super fast, great UI, but lacks TrueHD bitstream passthrough (converts to LPCM, losing Atmos spatial metadata). Price 400 dollars.

Help Plex local streams showing as remote (172.16)

Thumbnail gallery
4 Upvotes

Hi all,

First off, apologies if this has been asked and answered, but i've combed through Reddit looking for similar cases and all point to the same fix, but not for me.

Context:

- My plex is running on TrueNAS directly (docker), not through something like Portainer or Arcane. - Current TN PlexAPP config has local networks set up as 10.x.x.x/24 and 192.168.x.x/24 (main subnet vs local guest subnet)
- TN PlexAPP config is set up with host network enabled (this is the fix everyone raves on about)
- Plex internal network settings has ENO1 listed as the 10.x.x.x address, which is correct as my server is hosted on that subnet. It also has the two subnets listed as LAN networks, treat WAN as LAN enabled etc etc.
- Plex is set up through NGINX for reverse proxy, tied to my domain via cloudflare (unproxied, just DNS due to bandwidth limitations) - gonna refer to this as XDOMAIN below.
- I have custom server access URLs enabled; "https://10.x.x.x:32400/web,https://XDOMAIN"
- I have a full plex pass.

Issue:

Whenever i play content from my local network via the XDOMAIN address, the streams always come up as a remote connection, with a 172.16.x.x address, regardless of what device i use plex on.
When friends remotely use the plex from their house, it shows as remote with their correct IP from their ISP.

When i play the stream directly from the internal subnet (http://10.x.x.x:32400), it shows up as "local" with the correct IP it should be.
Rebooting my PC caused it to come up as local for like 5 minutes, then reverted back to the 172.16 address.

I never used to have this issue, it would always show up as "local, direct play". I only noticed the issue after a file would not stream correctly and kept getting hard stuck.

I know that the 172.16 address will be the internal docker container network, but this should not be occurring since i have the host network option enabled and plex itself is showing the 10.x.x.x domain on the network adapter. No?

I would just add the 172.16 address into the "LAN Networks" section, but i shouldn't have to. As mentioned before, it ALWAYS used to show the 10.x.x.x subnet and play as local (and as above, playing through that address directly shows as local).

Sorry for rambling, its late in Australia. Any assistance would be great.

Help access media files from computer to phone through other player apps

this is the sole task i am interested in. it's mostly audio that has grown too large to keep locally on the phone (android). i prefer to use djay pro as it has pitching up and down without correction. is plex right for this and cost nothing or is there a better option?

Help My server is getting an HTTP 403 (Forbidden) from server.plex.tv and is unreachable on all my clients

I posted this on the forum as well to absolute silence. The post from there is repeated below.

Hi everyone. I recently had a power outage and since the power came back, I’ve been unable to access Plex from any of the apps; they all say that my server is offline. Looking inside Plex Media Server.log, I’m seeing a lot of these failed HTTP PUT requests:

Oct 13, 2026 20:08:29.907 [127756400417592] DEBUG - [HCl#3d] HTTP requesting PUT https://servers.plex.tv/devices/1c748cf773f7b904d87b5e6d44c5747111951953?Connection[][uri]=redacted&Connection[][uri]=redacted&Connection[][uri]=redacted&Connection[][uri]=redacted&httpsEnabled=1&httpsRequired=0&dnsRebindingProtection=0&X-Plex-Token=xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Oct 13, 2026 20:08:30.006 [127756429949752] DEBUG - [HttpClient/HCl#3d] HTTP/2.0 (0.1s) 403 response from PUT https://servers.plex.tv/devices/1c748cf773f7b904d87b5e6d44c5747111951953?Connection[][uri]=redacted&Connection[][uri]=redacted&Connection[][uri]=redacted&Connection[][uri]=redacted&httpsEnabled=1&httpsRequired=0&dnsRebindingProtection=0&X-Plex-Token=xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

I have tried the following:

- restarting Plex
- toggling Remote Access
- Removing PlexOnlineToken/Username/Mail/Home from Preferences.xml and reclaiming both through the web UI and using curl /myplex/claim
- deleting old entries on plex.tv
- resetting ProcessedMachineIdentifier

/identity reports claimed=“1” and the *.plex.direct DNS resolves correctly. The 403 continues with a new device ID so I’m not sure what’s going on now.

Might anyone know what’s going on?

Meta (Plex) Slow Loading

Discussion The new app supports Atmos music?

Maybe I missed the memo but I have a load of Atmos music on my server and it just refused to play it on the old Shield app, it would transcode to Opus but on the new app it direct-plays and checking my AVR shows that it's definitely playing it as Atmos, full 6 channels on my setup.

The new app has a lot of problems, but this is something I'm really happy to see.

Help Is there any way to exert more granular control over which media displays subtitles automatically?

I generally like having subtitles displayed, but not for certain things -- media I'm rewatching and already know the dialog, for the most part, or comedies, where they can ruin the timing of jokes -- and it gets a little annoying having to manually adjust the playback settings for each individual file when I start it.

Is there any way I avoid that annoyance? EG marking certain folders/libraries to always display subs (if available) or to not, regardless of availability?

Help Plex not available remotely - Help!

For the last year, I have had no issues with accessing Plex remotely. A few days ago, I stopped being able to connect. I didn't update my PC or change anything at all.

I have followed multiple guides (turning off relay, manual port, etc) and even completely factory reset the PC that my Plex runs off of and re-installed Windows/Plex but nothing changes this error. I know some people have a bug where this error shows but they can still access it remotely - I cannot.

Please give me advice or tips since Plex doesn't provide any kind of customer service or tech support.

I'm running this on 1GB upload speeds on Rogers internet in Canada. Never had an issue before.

Solved Plex failing to stream 8Mbps on a 30Mbps upload link.

Solved! https://www.reddit.com/r/PleX/comments/1x6c9eo/comment/pgu8a52 Setting TCP congestion contro to BBR is now saturating the upload. I just tested a 20 mb 1080p file and it's smoothly playing.

Hey all weird issue I've been having with external streaming. I've got 30Mbps upload speed, but plex will not stream above 4-6Mbps total.

If 2 people are trying to watch 4 meg 720 both spin forever. If 1 person tries to watch a 8-10 meg 1080p it will spin forever. I'm pulling my hair out trying to find why it suddenly won't stream.

ISP is starlink. I know upload can vary but I'm doing speed test right at the moment of issue and getting 30Mbps results. Since I'm CGNat I am using a VPS to tunnel into my home network with pangolin/wireguard, but I've confirmed vps speeds are 1 gig symetric so shouldn't bottele neck anything.

I have tried telling plex my upload speed is 20, 30, and empty. I've tried Pangolin, Nginx, and wireguard for connection. I've tried with and without QOS enabled. Bufferbloat score was A+. There's nothing obvious in the logs showing any error or timeout.

I'm at a total loss, anyone else run into this and/or think of other tests to run? I might have to spin up Jellyfin or something else at this point if plex won't utilize my upload.

Solved Missing thumbnails for future episodes

This show is being released weekly, it's only showing the thumbnail for the 1st aired date. The metadata is there for the other episodes. On the Plex server the thumbnails are showing fine. I have checked this on Shield and Firestick. Is there a new setting i've missed?
