Admissions The "I've Been Accepted/Did You Get an Offer?/Will I Get an Offer?/Admission Rounds" Megathread!

We're no longer doing the big megathreads where people post their entrance averages. Instead, you should go to the Ontario Universities discord (not affiliated with this subreddit, so please don't message us asking for help with the discord) https://discord.gg/KxQJh9nxVk and view their decisions channel. Even if you're not curious about admission averages, they have other great content and they're a great resource to check out.

To view the old megathreads, please see this post here: https://www.reddit.com/r/OntarioUniversities/comments/1hzy327/

Did you know that some schools post their admission averages?

TMU posts theirs here https://www.torontomu.ca/content/dam/university-planning/Data-Statistics/Progress_Indicators.pdf - Check out page 3 (page 9 out of 153 of the PDF).

If you find more documents like this, please post the link to them below!

Serious Does off-campus student housing require a guarantor?

• Upvotes

I'm a grade 12 and every second day my parents in every argument threaten to not pay a single penny for my tuition and also threaten to withhold tax info for OSAP. If i want to go to a friend's house across the street they threaten to not pay for uni. If i have an after school club that meets until 5 or 6pm they threaten to not pay for uni. Etc. etc. And i always listen to them (missing out on hundreds of hangouts with my friends to the point they don't talk to me anymore) because it terrifies me not being able to go to university. They use it as leverage to get their way in every single argument.

Anyways i'm seriously considering taking a gap year (or even two) to work full time and build a financial safety net in case the worst happens.

I plan to move out for uni and obviously dorming is only for first year. I heard that for off campus housing in second year most landlords require a guarantor and i'm pretty sure my parents will refuse to be one. So what do i do? Is it true that even if i show proof of more than enough savings i'll still need a stupid fucking guarantor? That would be so frustrating. Sorry i'm just really stressed and i'd like to plan out things in the long run even if it may be several years away. I just want some reassurance that i won't go homeless in uni. Thank you.

Advice Uni BA majors that would lead to success

I start college next year for undergrad and im planning on taking a transfer program since i fucked up on my course choices in grade 12 and chose 0 grade 12 M/U or even C level courses other than english. So I basically only had this choice, or to retake 6-7 courses. I didnt wanna take a gap year, so i went with the transfer option.

The programs are 2 years or around 1.5 years for the diploma and then you can transfer to pretty much any university, which isnt something im rlly concerned about, but what major to pick AFTER the 2 years has been stressing me out since grade 11..Since id only be able to transfer to a bachelors of arts program/ major i wanna know which one is found to be the MOST successful in the future while also giving the most options for backup careers with or without grad school. Im not that picky so even a corporate job as a backup is fine to me, it just has to be stable enough to let me survive in this economy.

Id been thinking about psychology or sociology since you can pretty much do anything with those like law school, business, med, wtv with the right pre reqs, but ive seen way too many people say they regret choosing those as their major and the job market for these is recked. So now im stressed again.

Discussion Is Athabasca’s Bachelor of Professional Arts in Human Services worth it? Looking for honest advice/canada

I’m considering returning to university to complete a bachelor’s degree and would love some honest feedback from people who have completed similar programs or work in related fields.
I’m particularly interested in working with children, youth, and families, especially in areas involving trauma-informed care, mental health, family support, child development, and community services.
My main goal is to earn a degree that will open doors to better-paying career opportunities, including potential government positions, while allowing me to work in a field I’m genuinely interested in.
I’m not interested in becoming a registered social worker. I originally considered pursuing a BSW but, after researching the program and requirements, I’ve decided that isn’t the direction I want to take.
Right now, I’m leaning toward Athabasca University’s Bachelor of Professional Arts in Human Services, but I’m open to other options.
I need a program that’s fully online and preferably asynchronous because of my work and family commitments. Attending in-person classes isn’t an option.
I’m also interested in taking electives related to psychology, counselling, childhood trauma, and family dynamics. Ideally, I’d like to keep the possibility of pursuing further education in counselling open down the road.
A few questions I’d love some feedback on:
Has anyone completed Athabasca’s BPA in Human Services? Was it worth it?
What kind of employment opportunities were available to you after graduation?
Are there other fully online Canadian bachelor’s degrees that might be a better fit?
Would a Human Services degree be beneficial for government jobs or positions supporting children and families?
Would a different degree offer more career flexibility or opportunities for advancement?
Has anyone gone on to pursue counselling-related education after completing a Human Services degree?
I’m not looking to become a social worker, and I’m not necessarily looking for a degree that leads to one specific profession. I want something that provides flexibility, career advancement, and opportunities to earn a comfortable income while working in human services.
Before investing the time and money, I’d really like to hear from people with firsthand experience rather than relying solely on university program descriptions.
If you’ve completed a similar program or work in this field, what would you recommend?

Discussion Queen’s Smith MMAI vs Schulich MMAI

I recently got accepted into both Queen’s Smith and Schulich for their MMAI programs, and I am having a hard time deciding between the two.

I was wondering if anyone here has attended or is currently attending either program and could share their experience.

How was the program overall? Did you find the courses useful, and was the teaching quality good? How was your experience with the professors, assignments, and workload? Also, for those who have graduated, do you feel the program was worth it?

I would really appreciate hearing about both the good and bad experiences, especially anything you wish you had known before enrolling.

Thanks!

Discussion Upset about the OSAP changes? Let’s talk about it.

Hey everyone, we’re the Canadian Federation of Students – Ontario (your provincial student union). We’re the oldest and largest student organization across the province, and during this summer we’ve been preparing for this term and what it might look like for both returning and incoming students trying to access post-secondary education.

Y’all might remember us from the rallies that happened outside of March 4th and March 24th, where we saw students come out in the thousands against the OSAP announcement in February…

And we’re running it back November 5th. Except this time, students are going to be walking out of their classes and rallying on campuses across the province.

Students across the province are going to be organizing against these OSAP changes on their local campuses, as a show of united student power against these incessant attacks against students and the post-secondary sector. Every single student should participate (you, you and all of you!). A united student movement is a movement that will WIN.

You might have seen the Federation on your campus already, or a member of your students’ union might have already engaged you on the Hands Off Our Education campaign and the petition that’s being run alongside the organizing we’re doing.

It’s important to make sure that we’re all on the same page here – we need to be the change that we want to see.

That’s how we show this government, and any future governments, that students are not a group to be messed with, and we won’t lay still while education continues to be an afterthought. It’s students who are the ones feeling the effects of these changes, and that’s why we’re taking these steps.

So if you’re looking for ways to fight back against these changes, tap in and join the walkout on your campus. There are already students and students’ unions getting ready to fight back, and to get to our goal – we need all hands on deck.

HANDS OFF OUR EDUCATION!

Advice Super overwhelmed by university right now

It was super chill 2 weeks ago and suddenly became overwhelming. I am kinda behind in all of my classes. I have quizzes, labs, assignments, and midterms to do and prepare for (I havent missed a due date yet luckily). It feels like whenever I get one thing done another thing comes up. Kinda like whack a mole. I am behind 2 lectures in chemistry, math, and physics. I also still have to memorize like 100 things for chemistry as well. So far the studying I have done in chemistry is by doing practice questions in my head to see if I understand them instead of writing stuff out because its just so time consuming. Then I have to catch up on my practice for math and physics.

Anyone else going through this?

What can I do?

Oh and just to top it off I didnt get a reading week.

Advice Document evaluation fees on OUAC

Hi, an international applicant here. On OUAC, initially I attached my documents such as transcripts and therefore a document evaluation fees was added. However, I removed the documents since I do not want to upload them, but the document evaluation fees wasn’t deducted.
Did anyone encounter anything like this on OUAC?
What should I do?

Advice best uni for the “uni experience”

i’m gonna graduate next year so i’m thinking about my options. i really want live the post secondary experience to the fullest and have a great time while also having my studies in check.

i was thinking university of guelph because it’s got a great environmental resource management program (that’s what im thinking of going into at the moment) but some people say the schools bad some people say it’s good

i’d like to know everyone’s opinion on each school and how it was in terms of studies and social life

all opinions are appreciated!

edit: i’d also like to know how dorms were because i’m planning on moving on campus. i don’t mean how big they were or whatever i mean the general living experience

edit: are dorms hard to get? is it really competitive and do i need to apply as soon as i get the opportunity?

Admissions OUAC Application question

Hi, an international applicant here.
On OUAC, transcript evaluation is adding approximately 300 CAD extra. Moreover, it also states uploading transcripts aren’t mandatory. So, should I upload it or not?

Discussion is it just me who thinks dorms are weird?

I'm applying for uni soon, and I'm trying to figure out living situations. am I the only one who thinks it's really weird to pay thousands of dollars to share a room with someone? like the same bedroom, no divider. I get that you can get a solo room, but even if you ask for that, there's still a chance you get the shared room, right? it's my only thing keeping me from wanting to apply for on campus housing... I can't justify paying that at all. thousands to share a room 😭 my family isn't super well off, but even I don't share a room...how do you do anything at all knowing someone else is just THERE??

Advice Student in Ontario trying to choose a university program/career path

I'm trying to decide which engineering programs to apply to. I'm mainly looking at Environmental and Management Engineering, but I’m nervous about the difficulty, and I'm also considering Civil.

I know nothing here is "easy," and I'm willing to work hard. But I want to dedicate myself to something where I know the outcome is good, not grind through a really difficult degree and end up with moderate pay when I could have chosen something else. I'm also open to finance/business (actually anything else, since I am taking everything except bio),so I’m mostly trying to figure out where the real growth is and where people actually land solid careers.

What I would love advice on:

Which specific programs are really worth it right now (not five or ten years ago)? If you've done one, was it worth it? I'd especially like something transferable that doesn't lock me into one narrow path. Is Waterloo the only place that’s worth it for some of these (eg. env eng), or are there other Ontario schools I should apply to?

And how do I know if I can handle engineering? I'm doing Physics and Advanced Functions, and they’re okay, but sometimes I need time for things to click. I find myself wondering whether there is a reasonable way to judge whether I can finish a degree like this? How did you figure out you'd be able to do it?

I’m just looking for honest advice from people who’ve been through it. Quite literally any comment on anything I've even slightly mentioned helps. Even maybe

Discussion Does the uni you choose matter? (Science degree)

I know that different schools in Ontario hold different reputations (Waterloo for Eng or western for business and Ivey) but to what extent are these stereotypes true for science/pre-med programs. I’m currently in my first year at mac in their life science program. I was contemplating between Mac life sci and Waterloo health or life sci. I ended up going to mac because it was close to home and I truly loved the campus (and I guess it has the pre med culture but I feel like that is felt more through the health sci program). If I chose Waterloo would I have had a similar experience in the courses and opportunities for pre med? I know Waterloo offered me co-op options which could have been a good back up in case med school does not work out. My friends in Waterloo showed me their courses and they seem similar to mine.

If anyone is completely serious about applying to yorks bussiness program (or i believe any program works); use this fee waiver application code: Note: (try all these codes and figure out whichever one works, i got it at a uni fair but the writing is shit): "Waterloo2026", "waterloo2026" "Waterloo 2026", "waterloo 2026". It was a fair in uwaterloo ehich is where i attend cs as a first year. Advice UofT Computer Science Supplementary Application

Hey guys,

I'm currently in the process of completing the supplementary application for the computer science program and Iam not what to write. Does anyone know what UofT looks for in the supp application or what I can write here?
