Why do americans think drilling for more oil will drop their gas prices? Doesn't it just enrich oil companies and provides for a small increase in specialized jobs?

The majority of american refineries process heavy crude, not sweet light which is what the majority of oil from the US is. So most new oil drilled in the US just gets exported, benefitting the oil companies and not the american people at large (via gas price reduction).

Why wasn't Imagine Dragons ever as hated as Nickelback?

I remember when Imagine Dragons got overplayed to death in the mid to late 2010s and were popular and seen as the next "Nickelback" but it seemed like they never got the same amount of hate as Nickelback. I mean they got mildly teased by some people but I feel like it was never on the same level. I mean people talked about Nickelback with so much more anger than they ever did Imagine Dragons.

Explain to me, a 2001 baby. Why was Nickelback THE WORST MUSIC EVER and if you liked them you had bad taste whereas Imagine Dragons was just some popular band that s overplayed but nobody really cared to bash them?

Can I shower twice a day without getting scurvy?

I would prefer to shower twice a day, in the morning and before bed, just because I feel super icky in the morning and cant sleep feeling sweaty. However I was never allowed to shower twice as a kid because my parents told me showering too much causes scurvy.

Edit: wow learned something new today, gonna have a nice shower tonight.

How popular is Harry Potter in the current day?

On Reddit, still liking HP in 2026 is treated like sacrilege on many subs. I often see people say it's a "dead fandom" as well and that most of its fans are "over 30".

Is that true? It doesn't seem like HP has lost much, if any, momentum since it ended.

I can't turn on Youtube without seeing Harry Potter marketed. Coffee Mate coffee creamer just released Harry Potter tie-in creamers.

Every time I walk into Target or Barnes & Noble, the kid's book section has Harry Potter books front and center. It's been like this for over 6 years now.

This new HP adaptation boosted interest in the series as well.

My boyfriend wont stop watching porn while I’m in the house NSFW

So for context, me and my boyfriend have been dating for a year on December 5th. We were in a friend group but then started hooking up, went on a few dates, realized we liked each other a ton, and we have been with each other pretty much every day since.
When we were just hooking up, he would tell me about how he thinks I’m the best person he’s ever had sex with (blah blah blah).

So anyway, I am ALWAYS at his house, whether he’s at work or out with friends. Even when I go to work or go to a friend’s house, I always go to his house at the end of the night. Now, this might sound suffocating, but I always ask him if he wants alone time or just doesn’t want me to be there for a few days, and the answer is always no. Even when he goes to play pool or whatever with his friends, he ASKS me if I can stay until he gets back.

About 4–5 days ago, he was playing games on his computer after work, and I went to sit next to him. I rested my head on his shoulder and just sat there for a minute. He got a notification on his phone, so naturally, he went to pick it up, but when he opened the phone, it immediately had Twitter porn open. He quickly swiped out of the tab, but I had already seen it. He looked down at me to see if I noticed, but I looked away quickly to make it seem like I didn’t.

I kinda forgot about it as the night went on, but I woke up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom and decided to look through his phone, which is something he never has a problem with, even if he’s asleep, so I wasn’t crossing any boundaries. I went through his Twitter watch history, and there was a whole bunch of porn (nothing weird, luckily).
The problem was that they were from days we had spent the whole day together, so I was a bit confused about how and when he would even have the time to watch it. Also, WHY would you watch it when I’m here?

Anyway, the next morning, he’s driving to work, but I’m in the car too because I needed to pick up my car from the shop. On the way there, I decided to ask him about it. We have a 48-hour rule where, if there’s something on our minds, we have to talk about it within 48 hours or leave it alone, just so we don’t build resentment or jump to big conclusions.

ANYWAY, he apologizes because he “felt bad I had to see that” and then proceeds to tell me that he goes in the bathroom and jerks off while I’m in his room.
I asked him why we don’t just have sex. I also let him know that I don’t care if he watches porn; I would just prefer for it not to be while I’m legit in the next room.
He tells me it’s because he feels guilty for asking me for anything, so he just tries to “read my mind,” and if it doesn’t seem like I want to, then he doesn’t try????? He also tells me that he doesn’t think I (a woman) would wanna have sex as much as he wants to.

He then ends it off by telling me that just because he watches porn doesn’t mean that he’s not attracted to me and then goes on to talk about how pretty he thinks I am. But that answer made me pretty upset.
I asked him if he had ever done this with any other girlfriends he’s had, and he said, “No, because I have a girl there.” He hit me with the “it’s a guy thing,” but I quickly shut that down by saying no other guy I’ve been with has jerked off in the bathroom while I’m in his room. (Too mean, maybe?)

But then I had to get out of the car because I arrived at the auto shop. He gets out of the car and gives me a hug, says sorry, then leaves.
He’s texting me all throughout the day because he knows he handled the situation pretty terribly. I kind of don’t answer because I was honestly super mad about his reasoning.

I was also confused because I know he can be a nervous guy sometimes, so in the beginning of our relationship (maybe 3–4 months in), I let him know that if there was anything he wanted to try in bed, I was open to pretty much any suggestion. I also let him know the things I was interested in, too. He obviously had a whole bunch to say, and we’ve implemented those things since.
I never indicate that I don’t want to have sex. I wear cute matching sets, and I’ve maybe said no 5 times in a whole year of dating, and most of those times were because I’m prone to chronic migraines lol.

Anyway, we have a huge talk about everything that night, and I let him know that I don’t care if he watches it; I just would prefer if it’s while I’m not around. I also let him know that I’m mostly always open to having sex with him, and if he isn’t sure, he should just ask instead of “mind reading.”
I also let him know that I don’t want to feel weird about it. I tried to make it seem like a safe place because it sounded like, to me, he was scared of being judged???? (Because he can also just be a nervous person.)
He apologized again and said that he’s glad I talked to him about it.

For the next 3 days, I initiate sex whenever I get the slightest inkling that he might want to. We were even at it for like 3 hours one time.
So last night (around 2 a.m.), I checked the Twitter history again, and this time, the whole watch history was cleared out (lol), except for one video, and it said he had watched it the day before, WHICH WAS ALSO WHEN WE WERE TOGETHER ALL DAY.

I took a picture of it on my phone in case he tried to wipe the history again and just tried to go to sleep.
He woke up the next morning, and we had sex. I thought it was great. Then he went to work.
I’m not sure if I should bring it up to him when he gets home or just leave it at this point. I would LOVE some advice. It just really feels like he’s pushing a boundary that shouldn’t be that hard to not push lol, or maybe I’m being too harsh?
Lmk……

(SORRY IF THIS IS POORLY WRITTEN)

(I FIXED THE TEXT WALL MY APOLOGIES)

(PLEASE HELP)

Is It True that Healthcare is really that expensive in US or do people just exaggerate it?

So I watched some videos on instagram where people were saying that it costs 2k to call an ambulance. Surely thats an exaggeration no? Oh and also I watched another video where a woman was saying that it cost her 70k to deliver a baby like all costs included. Surely thats not possible??? So that means everyone has to pay this much money to have a child? I refuse to believe that. Can any American confirm

Going soft while high? NSFW

Smoked a joint with my girl the other night, and then later we got down to business. I took ages to finish and was basically not hard at all unless she constantly worked on it, although it all felt just as good physically but my mind was fucked and slow feeling, as it is when you overindulge. Curious if this has happened to anyone else? I definitely got too high that night. 😂 She was very reassuring and we still managed to have a lot of fun but my high brain was still frustrated / paranoid in the moment. I guess this is the weed version of whiskey dick? People talk about having amazing sexual experiences on weed but idk man. I can't say I ever have though that was a new one.

Why do women do this at the end of first dates ?

Guys why is it I can go on a first date make her laugh and seemingly flirt and it’s like she had a good time, when I greet them I usually hug but when the date ends the girls just awkwardly stand there then I have initiate to hug them?

They never initiate and it’s like they don’t want to hug, it’s like they just waiting for my goodbye cue and are ready to just go without anything. One of them even reached out for a handshake. What does it mean? Does it mean no romantic attraction ?

Why is r/comics so saturated with LGBTQ+ content?

I absolutely am not against LGBTQ+ culture or human rights or anything. I've just noticed that there are a lot of comics about, say, being a trans. Is it because comics are a relatively approachable means of self-expression and reflection? Or is there something else going on that makes independent webcomics more relevant to trans people?

Has AI improved your life or helped your business in a measurable way?

Trying to figure out if AI companies are adding a measurable benefit to daily life and worth all the investments in data centers. There seems to be a lot of hype - including in the stock market - that AI will forever change daily living.

It doesn’t seem to impact my daily life that much other than helping me maintain a neutral professional tone in my emails.

Why do so few Americans seem to care about getting others sick?

• Upvotes

First, I am an American so I am not singling us out, it's just all I have ever interacted with.

Second I am not talking about COVID, vaccines, or having to go to work sick. I'm talking about very basic courtesy like sneezing into an elbow, not touching people's things after wiping your runny nose with bare hands, washing your hands after coming inside, etc. Before COVID I basically never saw anyone doing this and I still rarely do.

What's so hard about not sneezing directly in someone's face when you know you're sick?

How do IVs rehydrate you?

I don't understand how does directly injecting saltwater into our veins rehydrate you/not cause issues? Does it mix with the blood in our veins and circulate our whole body? Or gets absorbed?

Does my username seem like an accidental Nazi dog whistle?

Welp this is awkward. I made my username in 2013 when I was 12 years old and I use it everywhere. It just stands for my name. My first name begins with H and my middle name is Karoliina. I used two h's because only one looked stupid.

With the way the world is going recently I've realized my username might make it seem that I support Nazi ideology, which I obviously don't want.

So, as stated in the title does my username give off accidental Nazi dog whistle vibes?

Why are Americans so loud?

I have always wondered this, but any time you go out to eat, or go literally anywhere, in europe, even if there’s only ONE american in the room you can hear them over everyone else.
Like i was sat on a busy bus at the very back and everyone was talking yet I could make out every word an american who was sat at the very front was saying (she’s from so call or something (whatever so call means) and visiting for her sisters wedding. and apparently her hotel is really shitty).

But also it’s even worse when you talk to one face to face because they genuinely will make your ears ring.

Why do people get so upset over wearing white/light colors to Western weddings?

Before anyone gets mad at me, I’ve never done this, but I’ve seen so many pages shaming wedding guests for wearing white or light colors, and I honestly don’t understand the intensity of the backlash.

I’m American, but the only weddings I’ve personally attended have been Chinese and Indian weddings, so I haven’t experienced this particular wedding tradition firsthand. In the weddings I’ve attended, the brides may wear white at some point, but they often have multiple outfit changes throughout the celebration or across the several days of wedding festivities.

That’s part of why I’m curious about the strong reactions to wearing white at American weddings. Isn’t the bride supposed to stand out from everyone else anyway? With the bridal gown’s lace, details, flowers, and overall styling, wouldn’t it be pretty obvious who the bride is?

I can understand intentionally trying to compete with the bride, but I have a harder time understanding the outrage when someone wears a pastel dress that accidentally photographs as white under a flash. The guest still gets dragged online, even when it might have been an honest mistake and there’s no obvious intention to upstage the bride.

Even if white is traditionally associated with purity or is meant to distinguish the bride from the other guests, why does it matter so much when it’s generally obvious who the bride is in the wedding photos anyway.

For example, on r/weddingshaming people were saying "It seems unfathomable to me that anyone would wear white after seeing these wedding shaming posts" and "the non-bride wearing white always is the loser. not only are they judged by all..." why would they be a loser?

Why is it Budapest and not Pestbuda?

What it says on the tin. Historically, the Hungarian cities of Buda and Pest were, two separate cities, and didn't combine until well into the modern era (1900s). So, why is Buda at the front of the name rather than pest?
