New poster Parking for the weekend

• Upvotes

I am going to Newcastle Friday - Sunday. Staying on Quayside. Looking for best options for parking. It looks like you can park at Metrocentre park and ride for free but I cant find anywhere if its ok to leave the car overnight. Other options seems to be Heworth Long Stay. Does anyone know which option is best or if there is anything else?

New poster Bus woes with debit card

Hi, please help -

I don't use the buses loads but when I do i always screw up the pay by debit card bit. What you supposed to do? Put it down immediately? Sometimes I'm told to hold on. Do I wait until the driver looks at you like your an idiot then you put it down?

No matter what I do I seem to make this harder than it should be. I reckon 1 in 3 times I get an error in the terminal thing

Posting here in case northeast buses are weird or something!

New poster Screen-Free Board Game Night?

Hello Geordies of Reddit!

I know a lot of people find it difficult to meet people offline and to find an excuse to switch off from the online world for a bit. So me and a few friends are hosting a Screen-free board game night, October 22nd, at The Lost Wanderer Inn.

It'll run from 6pm till roughly 9pm and is free entry. All you need to do is turn up, switch off (or at least put away) your devices, and be present in the moment for a few hours.

We're hoping to turn it into a monthly event, possibly switching it up doing things like crafts or walking tours of the city.

Here's a link to "book on" - Its not required, but helps us get an idea of numbers.

New poster Groceries

Hello everyone!

I am an international student who started uni 3 weeks back and I have found Morrisons and Sainsbury to be closer to me. I see that people recommend Aldi/Lidl over these as they are cheaper. Are there any stores that are not these popular ones but have things of good quality and also cheaper?? I visited longbenton once and there was one which had 2-3 things cheaper than aldi and lidl as well. I have memberships for all the stores and so I get the member prices but just wanted to know if there are some that aren't as popular and have things for a good price too. I am vegan so I wouldn't be needing non-vegetarian options.

Thanks in advance!!

New poster Could anyone recommend anywhere that would hire out a self drive car transporter or similar?

I need to move a classic 1998 Mitsubishi FTO from Brentwood to Newcastle. I'd prefer to drive the van myself idealy as it might take a few hours to get the car out and i dont want to have to rely on others if i can help it. Shipley prices have been almost as much as I'll be paying for the car itself.

Thanks in advance for any help 🤞

How do you feel that there are parts of the city where it's not safe enough for buses to go?

Blakelaw has had it's bus services cut by Stagecoach. Stagecoach have said it's due to the amount of antisocial behavior from young people in the area.

Hi all,

Moved to Sandyford / Jesmond a year ago (from Northumberland) and am wanting to get into better shape. Any running clubs that run on a weekly basis around Sandyford / Jesmond?

I'm 24 and ideally would like I'd love to meet some new people of a similarish age

Thanks!

What a wild moment to be a part of and take my camera down to.

Life was simpler… Bruno was on the wind up, Howe was in charge, Isak hadn’t outed himself as a rat.

Will never forget this day!

New poster Recommendations for visiting

Hello! I’m a 28 year old physicist and I’ll be visiting for the first time next month for a small NASA meeting. I’m from the United States and I’ve lived relatively close to Boston my whole life.

Aside from science, I am an active musician and would love to see some local shows or open mics! My music taste ranges from Tom Waits to Fontaines D.C. to Fairuz, so I’m very open to different suggestions.

Aside from that, if there’s anything anyone else wants to recommend checking out while I’m there (November 10-14) please do! Lets hang out lol

P.S. sorry my country sucks so bad 😔

edit: thanks for the responses y’all! much appreciated

Question about the Tyne Theatre & Opera House

Seeing Gianmarco Soresi on Friday; a big fan and very excited. If you know, is there somewhere to wait at the backdoor after the show, hoping for an autograph at this venue? I know it’s not a guarantee but I would like to try. Thanks :))

I feel like I talk different.

I speak slowly

"Okay i see... that is interesting to know about you"

"Do you have any hobbies you would like to share?" I say to you while extending a hand out from my chest and showing my palm?

I feel like the people here speak much faster and move their eyes a lot and know when to laugh?

My laughing is usually suppressed because I'm just trying to read the person I'm talking to and making sure I let them speak and I'm also preventing myself from dominating the conversation with random things.

"Okay yes that is no problem" soft slow smile

"I remember you eh? Your name is xyz" ... "How have you been?"

Another scenario "You look tired today... what are you up to?"

I genuinely feel like the way I speak and text is completely different because I'm clearly more fluid and verbose in texting I just seem to get lost when actually speaking.

I've got latin-american parents and lived in the Mediterranean for some decade.

Anyone having issues with Grain?

Went with them as people in this sub were praising them but have had periods of poor connection over the last couple of months both wired and wireless

Is this typical for them or do I need to be complaining?

New poster Northumbria vs Newcastle Uni (and other UK unis) – need some honest advice!

Hey everyone! I’m from India and looking at MSc Advanced Computer Science / Data Science at Northumbria, Newcastle University and a few other UK unis.

I’ve read quite a few blog reviews, but would love to hear from people who’ve actually studied there. How are the courses, and what’s the job scene like for international graduates?

I’m especially hoping to get into data engineering or a related data role, ideally with visa sponsorship. Does the Russell Group name make a big difference, or can Northumbria offer similar opportunities?

Are there any other UK universities you’d recommend looking into for good job prospects? Would really appreciate your honest experiences! 🙂

New poster Where can I buy crown prince squash/pumpkin?

I’ve been previously bought them from a shop on the West rd but it’s closed down. I’ve been down the west rd and can’t find any apart from Newcastle superstore, but they were charging £12 for one small pumpkin.

I’m looking for this specific pumpkin as it’s nice to make soup with.

Does anyone know where I can source one in Newcastle? Preferably somewhere with easy parking as I’ll have the baby with me
