*notabot
Iām going to be honestā¦
I have absolutely no idea how people are supposed to write these things without sounding like theyāre applying for a relationship at the DMV.
So instead of giving you a list of my height, favorite color, and twelve personality traits I stole from a BuzzFeed quiz, letās talk about the stuff that actually matters.
I like talking. A lot.
If I like you, thereās a pretty good chance youāre going to become my favorite person to tell absolutely everything to.
Something funny happened? Youāre hearing about it.
Something pissed me off? Congratulations, youāre getting the full story.
I saw something at Target that reminded me of you? Picture incoming.
Iām bored and want to talk to you for no particular reason? Guess whoās getting a text.
And if we somehow end up talking until 2 a.m. about absolutely nothing?
Perfect. Thatās basically my love language.
I like good morning texts. Goodnight texts.
Random pictures. Stupid memes. Inside jokes that make absolutely no sense to anyone else.
And those little messages that say, āI have absolutely nothing important to tell you. I just wanted to talk to you.ā
Because thatās the thingā¦
I want to feel wanted, not just liked.
I want to know that you get a little excited when my name pops up on your phone. That you think about telling me things throughout your day. That talking to me feels like something you want to do, not another obligation on your to-do list.
I want us to become part of each otherās everyday lives without having to force it.
Basically, I want a best friend Iām ridiculously attracted to.
And honestly? That sounds pretty damn good to me.
A little about meā¦
Iām 38, a dad to a 12-year-old, and I teach elementary students in special education.
So my days usually involve teaching, laughing, answering approximately 900 questions, and occasionally discovering a new way to injure myself.
For exampleā¦
I broke my ankle playing tag with my students.
Yes, Iām an elementary teacher.
No, I apparently do not possess the survival instincts of the children I teach.
Outside of work, Iām pretty laid-back. Sarcastic.
Affectionate when Iām into someone. I love making people laugh, asking questions, and having conversations that somehow go from genuinely deep to completely ridiculous in about twelve seconds.
I like movies, music, random late-night conversations, and learning all the little things that make someone who they are.
And I mean the actual little things.
What song do you secretly play way too loud?
What movie have you watched an embarrassing number of times?
What food could you eat every week and never get tired of?
What completely irrational thing annoys you more than it should?
What makes you laugh so hard you can barely breathe?
What random thing are you currently obsessed with?
Thatās the stuff I want to know.
I donāt just want to know what you do for a living or how your day went.
I want to know what goes on inside that head of yours.
I want to know what makes you happy, what makes you weird, what makes you passionate, and what parts of yourself you don't show everybody.
I want the conversations that make us lose track of time. The comfortable silences. The stupid jokes. The little traditions that happen without us even realizing it.
I want that kind of connection where we eventually develop our own language, know what the other person is thinking just by looking at them, and can make each other laugh in situations where we absolutely should not be laughing.
Iām not looking for perfect. Iām looking for real.
Someone affectionate. Someone who communicates. Someone who can be goofy with me but also have the hard conversations when life gets messy.
Someone who doesn't play games with attention or make caring about someone seem uncool.
And yes, I might be a little clingy when I really like you.
Not in a āyou need permission to leave the houseā kind of way.
More in a āI saw this and immediately thought of you, so now you have seven messages, three memes, and a picture you didn't ask forā kind of way.
If I like you, I'm not going to pretend I don't.
Iām not going to act less interested just to seem more desirable.
If I want to talk to you, Iām going to talk to you.
If I care about you, I want you to feel it.
And I want someone who feels comfortable doing the same with me.
Because life is too short to spend it trying to figure out whether someone actually likes you.
I want mutual effort. Mutual affection. Mutual excitement.
I want two people who are genuinely happy they found each other and don't feel the need to pretend otherwise.
Is that really too much to ask?
Anywayā¦
If youāve made it this far, letās skip the painfully awkward āHey, how are you?ā conversation.
Tell me something interesting.
The most ridiculous thing that happened to you this week.
A movie you could watch 100 times.
Your most controversial food opinion.
A completely random fact about yourself that nobody would ever guess.
Or tell me something you could talk about for hours if you found the right person to talk to.
Give me something real, and I promise I'll meet you there.
And if we click?
Wellā¦
You might accidentally become my favorite notification, my favorite person to annoy, and the person I want to tell everything to.
Which means approximately 47 completely unnecessary texts a day.
Possibly more if I find a really good meme.
You've been warned
