I purchased the MALM/STORKLINTA bedroom furniture set directly from IKEA North York store, expecting the quality and reliability associated with such a well-known company. Unfortunately, my experience has been terrible, both with the product and with IKEA's customer service.
The bed broke within weeks. It was fine for the first month, but over the following 15 days, the bed repeatedly disconnected from the headboard. Then, one early morning, the bed suddenly broke and collapsed. Thankfully, my thick mattress supported me and prevented what could have been a serious safety issue. A bed should not fail like this after such a short period of use.
The problems did not end with the product. Getting IKEA to resolve the issue has turned into an exhausting experience.
I submitted a negative review directly on IKEA's website, but it never appeared publicly. This raises serious concerns about how IKEA moderates customer reviews and whether negative feedback is being filtered out. Customers deserve to see genuine experiences, both positive and negative, before making a purchase.
The return and pickup process has been equally frustrating. My first pickup was scheduled for the beginning of last week. I stayed home and missed work, but nobody showed up. I then spent around 30 minutes waiting to connect with customer service, only to deal with slow responses and repeated disconnections.
During one particularly frustrating interaction, an agent named Adithya disconnected the chat after nearly an hour of back-and-forth communication. I had to contact customer service again and reschedule the pickup for this week. Once again, nobody collected the bed.
At 9 a.m., I received a message saying the truck was on its way. At 11:45 a.m., I was told the truck was waiting outside, despite receiving no call or meaningful communication to let me know the driver had arrived. I subsequently received a message stating that the pickup had been missed.
The following day, another agent called me without apparently knowing that the same pickup had already been missed twice under the same case number. This lack of coordination and awareness is unacceptable.
I have now been asked to reschedule the pickup for this weekend. After two failed attempts, I have little confidence that this one will be any different. I even asked whether IKEA could issue my refund first and arrange collection at a later time, but I received no response.
For a major company like IKEA Canada, this level of product quality, communication, and customer service is deeply disappointing. Customers should not have to sacrifice work hours, spend hours in customer service chats, repeatedly explain the same case, and chase a company for a refund after receiving a defective product.
Here is my challenge to IKEA Canada: complete the scheduled pickup this weekend and process my refund, or provide a clear resolution without putting me through another failed appointment. I have already given IKEA multiple opportunities to resolve this fairly.
I bought this bed expecting a reliable product. Instead, I received a product that failed within weeks and a customer service experience that has wasted my time and caused unnecessary stress.
IKEA needs to take responsibility for both the product failure and the way it treats customers when something goes wrong. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend this product or the customer service behind it.
