gender R/evilwomeninc is a hate sub and should be banned

Self explanatory. It is vitriolic and openly promotes hate. For example I saw a post on there that said "men should start life in prison and have to prove their way out". This is so incompatible with basic ideas of human rights or even feminism.

The typical justification I see is that "these are just jokes and shouldn't be taken seriously". I think this is an absurd double standard given that any other type of "jokes" are rightfully condemned when they target people on the basis of race, gender religion or etc. Like racist jokes are still a type of racism.

There's no meaningful moral difference between flying a Nazi flag and flying a Confederate flag.

Both represented political movements built around the belief in racial superiority, and both defended systems responsible for some of the most abhorrent acts in human history. The Confederacy fought to preserve chattel slavery, a system built on the ownership and exploitation of human beings. Generations of torture, rape, forced reproduction, sex trafficking, family separation, and murder. These weren't unfortunate exceptions; they were absolutely fundamental to how it operated.

Both flags represent movements that sought to establish and maintain racial hierarchies through systematic oppression and violence. America would have been better off pursuing a much more comprehensive rejection of Confederate ideology after the Civil War, similar to the de-Nazification efforts Germany undertook after World War II. They should have completely dismantled any Confederate institutions, political influence, and cultural glorification that allowed its disgusting ideology to survive. Unfortunately, because they did not, much of its worldview survived and brought an era of terrorism, lynchings, public executions, segregation, disenfranchisement, and the deliberate destruction of Black communities to uphold the stupid worldview that "my skin color makes me more entitled to rights than you"

The "heritage" is a war started to defend one of the most disgusting human practices that ever existed. If your family fought for the Confederates, congratulations; they fought to uphold people's right to abuse, torture, rape, murder, and deny all human rights to a group of people because of their inherent entitlement that their skin color was meaningful enough to allow such abuses to take place against another group of humans. They were disgusting people, and if there is any deity, hopefully, they are suffering the same injustices they fought to uphold.

gender r/itsthatbad is a hate sub and should be banned

Self explanatory. It is vitriolic and openly promotes hate towards women. For example, I saw a post on there that said women enjoy being raped. This is so incompatible with basic ideas of equality or even human rights.

The typical justification I see is that “these are just my made up facts and shouldn’t scrutinised at all” or that it’s just a place to vent. I think this is an absurd double standard given that any other type of generalised hatred is rightfully condemned when it targets people on the basis of race, gender, religion or etc. Like racist jokes are still a type of racism.

You’d be cancelled for insulting gays or Jewish people but can insult half the population on national television and nothing happens.

This one is self explanatory and pretty obvious, but I feel as if some people need to hear it again. If you provoke someone in public by being a racist piece of shit and just so happen to get a haymaker across the jaw then don’t cry and acted shocked! You reap what you sow

gender Men should wear makeup

cmon we are the most evolved species out there and found products that enhance our physical appearance and we decided to make it about gender? how stupid is that? if a man wears it he isn't jus wearing it he's expressing his sexuality like cmon. make-up should be fun and everyone should be able to experience it. It shouldn't be tied to masculinity or sexuality, make-up is jus makeup( I'm not homophobic and I'm also a woman). I just think it's fun and we shouldn't make a big deal about who is wearing it and jus enjoy the little things in life (I'm really sorry if I came off as someone tryna make makeup compulsory or smtg i really just meant ppl should wear what they want no matter man or woman)

NUCLEAR hot take Funding two wars against the US should be enough grounds to impeach a US president

Trump struck a deal with Russia to buy their oil.

Russia is actively at war with Ukraine.

Russia is funding Iran in their war against the US.

So, the US president is now helping to fund two wars against his own nation. How is this legal or even reasonable?

Homophobes think gay people are brainwashing their children into becoming gay, because they were being brainwashed to be straight

There are more people that are actually gay but they have convinced themselves they are straight due to their internalized homophobia.

Since they were raised to follow “straight values” and that heterosexuality is the only right way, they expect homosexual couples to be the same and teach their children “being gay is the only way”.

They also think openly discussing and offering a platform for LGBTQ+ members is brainwashing children since they were straight-washed their whole lives. Our society and media have made heterosexuality the norm. Most people dont even dare question their own sexuality as they are convinced it is against their values (when tho those values themselves are a product of a hetero-focused society).

And its ironic that its usually people who call others with different values “sheep”, when they are the ones who are blindly following society. When people get mad at homophobic jokes they say humor should not be taken seriously, however two men kissing is certainly a personal attack at them and their straightness.

Feel free to add your insights or counter-arguments.

I know the whole point is like anyone can become president if they have enough money but like I think that’s just dooming us. Why the fuck would you let someone with no political experience run one of the most powerful countries in the world ?? Every time we let it happen it goes to shit (trump and Regan).

If we want birth rates to rise, we need to restructure our education system and career pipeline

One of the biggest reasons for not having kids is that the career timeline cuts into the fertility timeline. How can you think about marriage and kids if it takes 16+ years of education (k12+college) to get a job? Why do you need a bachelors degree to work at customer support? Our grandparents got married and had kids young because they never needed anything beyond a k12 education. They could enter the workforce when they were just 17 or 18, thus could get married and have kids early.

We need to stop pushing college for all (both men and women) and have earlier vocational tracks for folks, rather than saying they need broad education all through college. Have mandatory general education be K-10, then 2 years of a specific vocational track you choose that trains you for a job. Then when people are secure in their job in their early 20s, it makes it easier to date and have babies.

casual hot take American foreign policy during the Cold War was stained by as many crimes as that of the Soviet Union, and even before Nixon, American presidents were criminals.

I’ve noticed a sort of myth surrounding Kennedy and Eisenhower, portraying them as "good," moral presidents (sometimes even including Johnson in this group) while setting them apart from the disgrace that was Richard Nixon. On the Soviet side, during those same years, we have Khrushchev and Brezhnev. In Europe alone, these horrific figures were responsible for crimes such as the invasions of Hungary (1956) and Czechoslovakia (1968). There's so much more to be said about these men, all of it, without a doubt, condemnable.

On the other hand, fortunately, many people do recognize Kissinger and Nixon as monsters (Watergate doesn’t even crack the top ten list of the worst things Nixon did). This is not a controversial opinion.

Yet, I believe that, perhaps clouded by nostalgia for the post-war economic boom, many Americans and Europeans forget the truly atrocious things committed by Nixon’s predecessors. The plan to invade Cuba, for instance (which failed miserably) was Eisenhower’s, and it was Kennedy who carried it out. Perhaps the most horrific act during the Eisenhower presidency (aside from the forced repatriation of hundreds of thousands of Mexicans) was Operation PBSUCCESS, which toppled the democratic, Third World-aligned government of Jacobo Árbenz Guzmán in Guatemala, fueled by crude, false anti-communist propaganda. The damage the U.S. inflicted on that part of the world is incalculable, one doesn’t need to look as far as Augusto Pinochet to see that. Furthermore, one need not defend Fidel Castro to acknowledge that, prior to the revolution, Cuba served as a brothel for the United States.

And, speaking as an Italian, I must also mention the anti-communist (in effect, anti-democratic) operations that relied on the support of the CIA. Cosa Nostra became so powerful partly thanks to support from the USA. Neo-fascists also gained power thanks to US backing. It was not left-wing terrorism that triggered the "Years of Lead." There were constant massacres and murders, with the masterminds behind them frequently escaping justice. It was a shameful agenda that began under Eisenhower (with roots reaching back to the Allied landings in Sicily) and intensified during the Nixon administration.

I want to clarify that, as a historical figure, I've a great deal of respect for Eisenhower. He was a skilled military strategist and did many good things for his country. I respect Johnson, Kennedy and Truman, too. Yet, they also committed acts that, by any definition, make them criminals.

gender Abusive Women Are Not Taken Seriously Because Their Abuse Doesnt leave visible scars

Everyone is so caught up in bashing all men as violent and rapists that we forget women's abuse patterns are much more sinister because they dont leave physical marks, which is the only type of abuse society acknowledges. If women were as strong as or stronger than men you would see MORE violence and rape out of women than men. We built a perfect society that is hyper sensitive to physical violence and completely oblivious to other types of abuse which perfectly conceals how many abuser women there actually are. There are alot of anti-social and dark triad women that hide behind social constructs to justify their disgusting and socially destructive behaviors

The LGB should be separated from the T

LGB is about sexual orientation and T is about gender identity. While a T persons partner may be B, the T person may live their life as someone who’s S. I also think it’s weird how people expect all LGB and T people to get along with the other side, LGB people can be t-phobic and T people can be homophobic

cold take Job interviews should evaluate ONLY job-related skills, not interview-passing skills and unrelated skills.

I honestly can't believe how we as a society have accepted the current state of job interviews. If I am an engineer - assess my engineering skills. Not my soft skills, not my language knowledge (my position requires 0 knowledge of any foreign language), not my "team skills", and finally not my skills of passing interviews. Advices like: ask for a cup of coffee and then ask where you can wash it to show good manners. I am neither a dishwasher not an etiquette teacher. Non of these things matter. God I hate HR

serious hot take I don’t get the age gap debate

How is it that an 18 year old can do porn, vote, adopt a child, take out a lone, go to the army to shoot peoples heads off to defend their country but they can’t logically decide to choose to date someone older than them without it being automatically assumed the older person is a predator, taking advantage or manipulating them. People act as if there is no accountability for 18 year olds but also don’t want to raise the age of consent to 25 where people say that’s the “full brain development”. If it’s such an issue, why don’t they want to raise the age of consent and take the ability away from 18 year olds to vote and do the other things.

I understand some people find it icky, but if you found watching gay sex icky because you are straight, is that a moral argument to interfere and condemn the act and shame two people who do it? Obviously not. So why are we doing it two two adults wether it’s a young male 18+ and older women or a young women 18+ and an older man.

Manipulation, coercion, power imbalance can exist im every relationship and experience, maturity or finding things in common isn’t a moral wrong. You could be 50 and immature and 20 with a lot of life experience for example.

So what is the moral issue?

casual hot take Waist is really the most attractive body part for literally everyone

People concern themselves with butt and boobs but the waist is king. I love a nice waist, almost everyone that looks aesthetic almost always has a nice waist. It doesn't matter if it is wide, thin, rotund, or fit the waist always has character it is the core and connection between the chest, back, shoulders, and the legs. From the waist you can also see so many distinct things:

  • fat distribution and muscularity around the abdominal region
  • Shoulder and hip to width ratio
  • Rib flair
  • Clavicle width
  • from the side the tilts relative to the pelvis (how weak their glutes, abs, and even spine are)
  • from the side you can see butt to waist ratio
  • arm to chest and arm to waist ratio
  • From the back you can see lower spinal erectors and butt dimples
  • You can even see guess based on how short or tall their waist is how tall a person is

Like all around it looks nice and is one of the few body parts that from a 3d perspective conveys a ton of information that can be very easily seen as attractive. Not to mention, with clothing the waist can look even more attractive and portrayed nicely in many styles.

I can see why it has culturally always had an audience in every culture in every society.

Resellers who mark up accessibility items should be fined or get prison time.

I work at a thrift store.

The eBay/FB Marketplace resellers/scalpers are present at my location every damn day waiting for the second any new items come out.

I have over time, understood their role in the stores, (as little as I like it) as they fulfil what a thrift store/warehouse wants most:

Output.

In every warehouse style job, every second an item is stored, and every inch of space used is money wasted.

Even though my thrift store is a nonprofit, (and we receive all our items as donations) we still need to make some profits to break even on operating costs and we need to make them fast. Resellers (and some genuine normal people) do that lightning quick, and then we can get rid of the items that don't sell in a week or so.

Hate them as I may, I at least understand their role in the ecosystem.

But the only items resellers should NOT EVER be able to resell at a markup, is accessibility items.

We have found the online pages for many of these shitheads, and many are reselling wheelchairs they got at our store for 3-4x the price they bought them for. I've never seen a knee scooter last more than an hour or so on the floor.

No amount of begging or pleading will get them to stop, and the managers at this store don't particularly care because of how good for the store's output/ecosystem the resellers are.

I've had people ask me if there are other wheelchairs or knee scooters or crutches in the back very regularly, and even though I am not allowed to, I ALWAYS check the back for them and bring one out if we have any because FUCK the resellers.

If Grandma Betsy is here looking for a smaller walker for her disabled grandkid, you bet I'm going to look in the back and bring out something nice that I kept away from the resellers.

I wish we could not even take accessibility items out to the floor tbh, it sucks ass seeing some dickhead reseller scum take his 4th knee scooter out the store in a week (and yes we have a couple resellers who literally specialize in accessibility items which is fucking disgusting).

This shit should be illegal. Like we should outright be able to get people arrested for depriving people in need of these essential items, or at minimum get them some pretty hefty fines to discourage it.

Fuck resellers.

Edit: I am surprised this got so many of the resellers/scalpers out of the woodworks to defend their shitty actions and deflect as hard as humanly possible. The point of our thrift store is not to sell shit at "market price", it's to sell shit that was going to literally be thrown out for dirt cheap and give it a second chance.

It seems I unfortunately, need to explain how at least this particular thrift store works.

It's a nonprofit first and foremost. I already mentioned that in the main body, but doesnt hurt to reiterate it for people.

We pack up excess clothing that might not sell, and ship it to humanitarian shit. I am talking multiple massive compressed cubes of clothing a day, the equivalent of approximately 1,000+ shirts per cube.

We sell items to pay to keep the lights on and the employees paid and to fund the humanitarian side of the warehouse part of the store. We sell item for dirt cheap on purpose so disenfranchised people can afford to get a set of kitchenware for under $10 and other stuff like that. We aren't selling this shit at "market price" like that other commenter mentioned because that would defeat the entire purpose.

We also sort and scrap unsold items through various recycling processing companies, which keeps the vast majority of these items donated out of a landfill.

I do not see why people are comparing our thrift store to the resellers who fucking fight each other for electronics items and shoes like their lives depend on it, and who consistently take the accessibility items people genuinely need so they can't find it anywhere nearby for cheap.

we need to teach boys what consent looks like, not just tell them what it means

boys are not shown consent... they are told what consent is, and that's the problem.

first, there is right and there is wrong. rape is rape. i don't need to "show" my son not to murder or rape someone.

but in the grey areas, i think we have a structural problem caused by both men and women.

simple everyday example of showing what to expect for consent:

last season, i was at a basketball game with my son when a 9ish.. year-old boy next to me needed to change shirts. his mom told him to switch right there in the stadium so they could hurry up. no asking if he was comfortable. no consent. he was not comfortable.. and i noticed it. most girls would at least be asked if they were okay with it, even if they had an undershirt on.

dads do it too. a daughter asks her dad to stop tickling her, and he'll almost always stop. a son asks the same thing? maybe. maybe not.

those of us with sisters have lived the double standard in how much they're allowed to push or physically pester their brothers versus the other way around.

rinse and repeat this 10,000 times as boys grow up.

one of the biggest problems with consent is that we show girls what consent looks like, but tell boys what consent means. then we expect boys to grow up understanding all the nuances we've taught girls through experience.

serious hot take Hot take: it's not cool to call someone racist because they don't like Disney blackwashing characters and calling it representation.

• Upvotes

As a black girl, like, if we're being specific I'm brown but not like in a white way. Back to the topic, if I point out a issue in the black community without mentioning my race, people will call me racist. If I say that I don't like Disney black washing characters instead of making a original character without mentioning I'm black too? I'll get called racist. What's up with that? Tiana is representation, not whatever slop they make nowadays
