If you go to the Geelong show take cash
Cash is king signs everywhere and higher prices for people paying with card (in the form of discounts for cash). Some of the games were “$10 discount if paying with cash” so unfortunately had to cop it a few times.

[Request] Poker venue? (Private event)
Does anyone know of a venue in Geelong for a private poker night? We will need to rent a table and a dealer.
I only found two websites online. Both looked a bit dodgy and seemed to be out of business.

[Request] Do you recognise this car? Stolen Caravan - Waratah St Geelong West
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
My friend's caravan was stolen from Waratah St Geelong West at around 3:50am this morning. So far, this is the best footage we have of the vehicle involved. Looks to be a red Ford Territory, travelling along Shannon Ave.

Roadworthy in Geelong
Hey there, glorious denizens of our great community!
I'm looking for a roadworthy for a car I've got.
The situation is that I've got a car that owes me nothing. I want to roady it, and give it to someone who needs it. I'm hoping for something on the cheaper side, or a mechanic that's community minded.
Hit me up with your best!

[Politics] Geelong & State Election
G’day, I’m in my 50’s , raised in Geelong and apart from 20 or so years where I got the hell out of Geelong when I turned 18 in the 80’s as it was “daggy”. I returned here around 2011 and have lived here and worked here since.
This coming election is the first one in my life where I have no idea who to vote for.
I’m am completely at a loss.
In the past I’ve vote Labor every time. I grew up in a Labor family. To me they are the fairest of the big parties.
But to me Victoria is a mess. I ride a motorcycle everyday and I am furious and worried about the state of our roads. I’m sick of hearing someone else has died due to our embarrassing dangerous underfunded roads.
I have literally seen better roads in Third World countries I’ve visited
Then there is the debt, the Commonwealth Games fiasco. Those games were going to bring a lot of money into Geelong but instead cost a fortune to get out of.
I don’t see the Liberals as the answer, as if they were an effective opposition we’d not be in the mess we’re in. They have been infighting for years and the last few Liberal Victorian Government have been a fiasco.
I won’t go into the kooky Hanson cult where everyone is jumping on board yet she is bans media she doesn’t like and is funded by a billionaire donor. She also voted against even the smallest pay rises for some of Australia’s lowest paid workers.
There is no way I’m voting for her.
I want to vote Labor but feel they’ve gone stale and are a bit of a mess. I have a little more hope under Ben Carroll, I’ve met him and he seems like a good man, but he has been part of this aging government for years.
I don’t want to vote Liberal - I just feel they would cut everything (remember Kennett!) and we’d be further in the shit.
I seriously don’t know who to vote for and I know I’m not the only one. I was talking to a few at work the other day here in Geelong, and they feel exactly the same.
So who do you think would be best for Geelong when it comes to a state government?
I’m not voting for Hanson, she’s nuts, is way too much like Trump for my liking, so don’t try and encourage me to do that - you’re wasting your time.
Who are you voting for and why in Geelong? Who do you think would be best to run the state and will be best for our city into the future?

Central Geelong Day Care Reccomendations
Hi All,
I am looking for some feedback regarding the best day cares preferably in Central Geelong or Surf Coast area for 2027.
My daughter will be 9 months old and I'm nervous about sending her to a day care so young. We would preferably like a daycare that provides regular updates throughout the day.
We like the Montessori educational approach though are open to similar approaches such as Play Based Learning etc.
We have toured Montessori Beginnings. Any feedback on this day care and others in Central Geelong would be much appreciated! Please include any pros and/or cons.
Thank you!

Market Square and bus interchange redevelopment.
So the sentiment to get serious and do something about the current Market Square debacle is gaining traction thankfully.
The Libs are talking about compulsory acquisition of the precinct which would be absolutely fantastic, but all parties are throwing out ideas and promises they don’t actually mean as we come up to this election, so all these thought bubbles are taken with a healthy dose of scepticism.
However if Market Square could be, or is, compulsorily acquired by the state government, let’s hear your ideas for what should be done with it. Let’s brainstorm what to do with the absolute cluster muck that is the current Market Square, and perhaps give a councillor or pollie a proper idea of what the public wants.
Anyway here’s my idea.
- Demolish that whole half block - Malop St to Lt Malop. Moorabool st to Yarra.
- Excavate, excavate, excavate. 5 levels of car park directly below the current multi-storey carpark. Basically sinking what’s there above ground to under ground.
- Subway bus interchange. All current street-level bus stops relocated below Market Square. Off the street, underground, well lit, ventilated, with lifts and escalators for passengers/parkers.
- Subway shops, bars, restaurants to keep it occupied, vibrant and mall rat free.
- At ground level, create a public park/green space. Shops, bars, restaurants along the north and south sides. Geelong weekend market in the park each weekend. Buskers, entertainers, trading with council permits.
That’s about it really. All the ugly but functional stuff like bus stops and car parks underground with a nice green public space at ground level.
Lets hear other ideas.

LNP announces plans to massively downgrade Geelong public transport
We all knew this was coming but yes, if we get a LNP government the Moorabool St bus stop is for the chop: https://timesnewsgroup.com.au/geelongtimes/news/liberals-unveil-plan-to-move-moorabool-street-bus-interchange-revitalise-cbd/ Buses will all only go to and from the Geelong station, with a shuttle bus into the city every 15 minutes and if you're thinking "won't the shuttle bus stop just create the same problem" you've thought more about it than Stretch.
Funny thing is, the council could move the Moorabool St bus stop right now - they'd just have to make sure the new location(s) were in the city, as that's currently a requirement for state government funding. But because the council are run by real estate interests who don't want buses anywhere near their city investments, they won't do that.
Decades ago they got Kennett to agree to remove all bus stops from the city, and when Labor got back in and made the council do the bare minimum to provide a decent service the bare minimum is exactly what they did. They created the worst possible stop so they could spend 25 years complaining about it because they don't want to fix the problem - they want to use it as an excuse to keep bus passengers away from their empty shops.
It'd be nice if a journalist one day asked Stretch why he doesn't just break up the Moorabool st stop into a couple of smaller stops spread around the city, but this is Geelong and we don't have journalists here

[JOB] Looking for a charismatic person for a quick 3-hour promo gig next Saturday (Oct 17th) - $40/hr ($120 flat rate)
Hey Geelong,
I’m a comedian with a show coming up in the Geelong Comedy Festival, and I’m looking for someone awesome to help me out with a bit of promo next Saturday morning (Oct 17th).
The festival has an official promotional stall running at the Geelong Market from 9:00am to 2:00pm. I want to hire someone for the peak 3-hour block from 10:00am to 1:00pm to use that stall as their base.
The plan is to hang out near the stall, chat naturally to the comedy fans who wander up, pitch my show, and get them to scan a ticket QR code.
It’s not a passive flyer-dropping gig or an aggressive sales thing—I’m just looking for a warm, witty person (ideal for local actors, performers, uni students, or anyone with the gift of the gab) who can engage people in fun conversation and help push some tickets.
- Rate: $120 flat rate for the 3 hours ($40/hr)
- When: Next Saturday (Oct 17th), 10:00am – 1:00pm
- Where: Geelong Market (at the festival stall)
If you're interested and want to make a quick, easy 120 bucks next weekend, please send me a direct message with a quick sentence about your background or why you’d be a good fit. Or if you know someone in the area who would be perfect for this, please pass this on to them!
Cheers!
