Where in Geelong can I get a battery kids toy repaired? Might be circuit related as battery compartment not corroded and looks clean :)

There's a repair cafe in Highton

I tried there today. The person who looked couldn’t get to the bottom of it as they were busy and didn’t know how to fix circuit board stuff. I don’t have time to wait around again there so happy to find somewhere to drop them off.

Thats a shame, they have fixed so much stuff for us over the years but I guess they are volunteers doing their best

Totally! They were so kind and patient. I’d never been before. It’s a very lovely service!

I do electronics repairs as a hobby and would be happy to take a look at it for you if you can't find anyone else. Feel free to DM me.

Mate if you do circuit board repairs you could make a fortune. Basically every cheap electronic device that breaks down is circuit board related! I replaced an inspection camera because the circuit board packed up. If I knew anything about electronics it might have been an easy fix.

The problem is that the cheap is stuff is mass-produced at a price point that usually makes it more palatable (and cost effective) for a lot of people to just replace it rather than repair. This is especially true if the person doing the repair is doing it as their primary source of income since they'll need to charge a rate that allows it to be profitable which can end up costing more than it would to just buy a new one.

Yeah, disposable products. Didn’t have them in the past. But re-sales is where the profits are at, unfortunately.

I‘m still running a whirlpool washing machine bought new in 2003, completely mechanical and not a circuit board in sight. Still does the job and never serviced. Should give it some love one day and get it lubed up again and get another 25 years out of it.

Fuck circuit boards.

Thanks. I did call them but they only do hobby stuff and it’s $60 an hour. The toys aren’t worth that much.

There's a toy store on Marshalltown Rd in Grovedale, opposite vinnies, guy hand makes wooden toys, I know they're not electric, but if you gave him a call on a business day he may know someone who could fix it.

what is the toy? i commend you for not just opting straight for replacement but too often these days that is the way.

It’s discontinued unfortunately. A little toy circus that’s meant to play music ect. Seems like there’s a gap in the market for toy repair!

Not really, As you said $60 an hour is more than the toy is worth and it can take multiple hours to fix a component level problem.
