so i'm starting a new job next week where i'm working US hours. my work day ends super late so being a non-driver is fucking me over proper.

i want to get my learners as soon as possible so i can, hopefully, start driving in the next 6 months.

my issue is that the last time i tried to book, it was a hectic wait time and i didn't even get to the end of the line before they turned us away. i don't want to take a leave day just for it to be a bust.

on that, i'd need to take 2 days off (one for booking, one for writing) so losing a day would be detrimental for my work reputation, as well as leave allotment.

my work reputation is also a problem i'm stressed about. i'm gonna be a newbie and i'll be on probation for 6 months. i don't want taking leave early on to cause the perception of me being an absent worker. however, i really need a license for the job. i'm planning on trying to find a lift club during my first week since i'm not gonna chance public transport at night.

in saying that, i don't want to rely on lift clubs forever since it's a permanent position and it would be a lot more lucrative to have a license.

any advice would be greatly appreciated !! thanks so much in advance<3

On Thursday, 8 October, at around 10:45am, my Samsung S26 Ultra was stolen from my pocket while I was in Pedros on Florida Road. I had just bought Yogi Berry and a soft serve.

I chased the man and caught up with him as he got into a moving getaway car with three other men. During the struggle, I was hit on the back of my head with a hard object and dragged approximately 10 metres. I was left injured and bruised.

The attached map shows a location reported for my phone afterwards in Durban CBD. It is separate from where the robbery happened, and I cannot confirm who has the phone or which premises it is inside.

I’m sharing this because it happened in broad daylight while I was simply buying something for a staff member. Please be alert around entrances, courtyards and parked vehicles.

Has anyone else experienced something similar around Florida Road? If you witnessed this incident or have relevant information, please message me privately.

I took these shots on Saturday on a dive with Durban Undersea Club. The wreck lies in 31 meters of water offshore from the Cooper Lighthouse. The actual identity of the wreck is unknown, but it's estimated to be around 80-100 years old. The pink and purple fish in the first photo is the KZN/Wild Coast endemic Harlequin Goldie (Pseudanthias connelli). These were originally discovered on this wreck and it's still the best place to see them in recreational scuba depths.

Has any tenant here had a positive experience with our tribunal? And was arbitration fair and thorough? I'm just curious as to everyone's experiences, especially relating to harrassment by the landlord? Are they worth going to?

Never a dull a moment

Husband and I are separating and I need to get out with my kids fast. We live in Waterfall/Hillcrest and I really can't afford it on my own but I can't exactly move to say the Bluff or something where it might be cheaper because my kids go to school in the Hillcrest area. The closest I could find in my budget was an okay place in Stockville. In the past before moving to a complex with security, I was held at knife point and I'm absolutely terrified of something like that happening again especially now that I'm on my own with my 2 kids.

The riots & protesting are heating up. A guy was simply walking down the street and he started getting attacked for no reason.

Right now there's a lot of debate going on in the subreddit, we as mods are trying our best to create a forum for people to voice their views on the matters affecting our city. We believe people should have the right to speak their mind.

That said, let's please all remember that we're all Durbanites here - keep it civil and respectful please. We're trying to not be too heavy handed in our moderation, but we'll need to step in if things keep escalating.
