It’s annoying that we can’t get any creative restaurants or fun recreational places because they’re probably so expensive to open here

Instead we have to see these places pop up or mattress stores

The CT Commute Will Be the End of Me

9 hour days and an hour commute (which should really be 20 minutes with no traffic) just to live paycheck to paycheck is destroying me.

I know I’m not alone. Please leave room for others to merge. Please be kind. That is all.

CT left lane law being enforced????

I was on 91 North around 11 this morning (around exit 20-21) and wow what a surprise I saw! Saw a state trooper fly across 3 lanes of traffic and pulled over someone in the left lane!!! The car in that lane passed me and never moved back over despite having room. I have never seen that happen in my 7 years of driving so I was legit so shocked. Perhaps this is the start of CSP enforcing it?!

Photo / Video New Britain Public Library in Connecticut

This library was built in 1895. It's located at High Street in downtown New Britain, aka the Hardware City.

This library has expanded and remodeled several times over the years and retains the characteristics of old school heritage from the early days with the Children's Library which was originally separate from the rest of the library quarters before the expansion while the original portions of the library included the New Britain Institute. The expansion in the late 20th century paved the way for lots of space for fiction and nonfiction collections as well as 21st century technology and many more that are relevant in libraries today.

It's a beautiful library which comprises three different buildings in one huge property that is used for a library.

Enjoy the album

Feedback is appreciated!

Politics State Senator Jeff Gordon (R) allegedly verbally abused and intimidated Stafford First Selectman for supporting his opponent

The “good doctor” of the 35th seems to be worried about his re-election chances…

Here’s the caption from Stafford Democrats:

On Friday night, Senator Jeff Gordon called First Selectman Bill Morrison, angry over Bill's endorsement of his democratic challenger, Ethan Werstler. Bill had supported Werstler in a mailer, stating that his dedication and knowledge would benefit our district. Gordon demanded Bill withdraw his support immediately and condemned the mailer, claiming it contained lies about him. Senator Gordon threatened to unleash the Republican Party against Bill if he did not comply. Bill however, does not back down to bullies and stood by his words. The next morning, Gordon's campaign attacked Bill personally and indirectly targeted Ethan Werstler. Every voter should be able to support Ethan Werstler without fear of intimidation and threats.

Vermicomposting in CT

I have been vermicomposting for over three years and think the worms are starting to outgrow my bin. I am not interested in getting a larger or a second bin. Anyone want to start their own bin and get some free red wigglers?

If you're new to vermicomposting, you will need to keep the worms inside or in a heated area. The winter here is faaaar too cold for the wormies :)

Anyone using propane for heating their house? I could use some advice.

I’m currently using propane for my on demand hot water, stove and emergency generator. I do have a line going to the furnace area. The house is a ranch and is 1800 square feet and has an oil fired hot air furnace that is about 25 years old. I was thinking of upgrading to a 1000 gal tank and getting a 95-97% efficient propane furnace with a variable speed blower. I’ve seen the Connecticut Propanes Buyers Group’s price for propane right now is $1.75 a gallon (500 gallon min. tank size and your primary heat source has to be propane.) How has the cost of heating your home with propane compare to oil heating over the last few years been? Even at 1.5 gallons of propane to 1 gallon of oil, right now, it’s a no brainer. Wouldn’t oil have to be about $2.60 a gallon or less to beat the price of propane?

Exploring Lease Options

I’m planning to relocate to Hartford, CT, in early November and am currently exploring affordable rental options near downtown Hartford.

Since I’m new to the area and don’t have any personal connections there, I wanted to reach out and ask if you could share any advice, recommendations, or insights on finding a good and affordable place to rent. I’m open to shared apartments or private rooms and would really appreciate any suggestions on reliable rental websites, local housing groups, or neighborhoods that offer reasonable rents and convenient access to downtown.

On CT bear hunt, Lamont and Fazio find common ground

When it comes to Connecticut’s increasingly troublesome relationship with black bears, both candidates in this year’s governor’s race are in agreement on a somewhat controversial solution.

Gov. Ned Lamont, the Democratic incumbent, and his opponent, Republican Sen. Ryan Fazio, have both supported measures in recent years to allow the hunting of black bears. Those efforts have been repeatedly defeated by opponents of hunting who argue that non-lethal means can be effective at reducing conflicts with people.

Connecticut is home to between 1,000 and 1,200 black bears, with the population concentrated largely in the state’s northwest corner. Encounters with people — including home break-ins and attacks on livestock — have risen in recent years, according to wildlife officials.

However, Connecticut is one of only two states in the Northeast that does not allow bear hunting. The other, Rhode Island, has fewer than a dozen bears.

“The governor supports a limited and carefully regulated bear hunt because Connecticut’s bear population is continuing to grow and we’re seeing more and more conflicts between bears and people every year,” Lamont campaign spokesperson Lauren Gray said in a statement.
