Update:
As far as clean up, I was able to take the back vent off, which was way easier than I thought. I used my portable steam cleaner to get down in there and was able to hand wash the vents. However, it did get into some nooks and crannies that were a bit harder to clean, for that I used a toothpick and some disinfectant wipes.
Now as far as the story goes,
Unfortunately, no it was not my child, but I, the mostly grown adult in this situation, that spilled the soup. I had not packed a lunch for us, so I decided that picking up soup & a sandwich from one of my favorite places would be great. When I parked at the kids museum, I decided I wanted to eat in the car, so I wouldn't have to bother with bringing everything inside and trying to have us eat and have them be distracted. Now when I did this, I decided to get in the backseat and unbuckle my 2 year old, fully believing that everything would be fine, they would eat, I would eat, and then we would have a good time. Opened the soup to see if they would want it, and they didn't. I was holding it at the time when I tried to offer something else. And they knocked it out of my hand, thus spilling it down my hand, my coat, the blanket, the towel and the vent in the car. After suffering from a first degree burn, I did my best to clean it up with athe towel I had. To no avail, was I going to get chunks of tomato out of the vent. I cut my losses, and decided I would deal with it later. After bedtime, a couple screwdrivers (not the drink), and a steam cleaner, it's like it never happened. But now we have a new rule, no open soup in the car.
*The reason we didn't eat outside was because it was raining
*Soup was still delicious from the 4 bites I had
*Sandwich was not a grilled cheese
Thank you to all that offered advice and laughs for a chunky situation 🍅
