SA | Video Biotodoma Cupido "Santarem" spawning

Figured some people might find this interesting to see.
I have 5 (started 6) wild Biotodoma Cupido in my living room tank. Alpha male paired up and they frequently lay eggs, but this time I saw them actually do it live.
Bit of low quality due to phone and I let that corner get a bit dirty with moss, I noticed them cleaning that rock for days.

Tank is 150x45x55 (cm's), PH around 6,6-6,8. I do weekly 50% water changes with just tap water.

10 corydoras similis
20 wadai tetra
5 cupido's "santarem" (bit more red in the fish, stunning color in the flesh)
10 parotocinclus maculicauda (red fin oto)
2 Ivancara Bimaculata
12 Beckfordi pencilfish "super red"

Eggs never survive, tetras and bimaculata prey on them during the night, but will start to put the cupidos in a breeder soon to try and produce some offspring.

SA | Help Help Electric Blue Jack Dempsey ate first fish NSFW

Need advice , my Electric Blue Jack Dempsey ate my Otocinclus. Noticed this last night, and she continues to have the fish in her mouth as of this morning . I’m on the fence about removing it but do not want to hurt her, she has shown signs of using the sand or rocks to “push the fish” further into her mouth, but has shown 0 progress since last night. I do not feed her fish as her diet consists of blood worms and pellets.

UPDATE:

I attempted to catch her in the net to try and remove the oto, she began to panic and run from me, in which she somehow spat up the dead oto
Will monitor her to see how she continues as she is stuck with her jaw open

Identification Severum sexing

Is anyone able to tell me if my severum is a male or female? They’re about 7 inches long. From what I’ve seen online I’m leaning more towards girl but I’m not 100%. I don’t have any intention of getting another and breeding I just want to know so I can give him/her a fitting name :) Thanks!

Looking for some opinions on my male zebra cichlid.
For the last few days, he’s been spending long periods (sometimes up to an hour) basically laying/resting on the bottom like this. He’ll slightly reposition himself occasionally but otherwise stays in the same area. He does move around at other times.
The female is currently spending a lot of time inside their cave, so I’m wondering if this could somehow be related to breeding behavior or if the male is showing signs of stress/illness.
Current parameters:
Ammonia: 0 ppm
Nitrite: 0 ppm
Nitrate: 0 ppm
pH: ~6.0
TDS: 20–30 ppm
100% ro/rain water
The female and the other fish in the tank are acting completely normal.
Does his behavior in the video look concerning, or has anyone seen males behave like this around spawning?

SA | Help Apisto Borellii help

I've had a pair of Apisto Borelli in my community tank for a couple of weeks. The (tiny!) female seems very chill, she comes out to feed, and we see her frequently. The male seems stressed, he has gotten very lethargic, seems to be breathing heavily, and generally just sits in one spot all day. He would come out at first, and the pair would swim together.

No-one is attacking him, he was occasionally chased by a barb, but no nipping. Temperature of the tank is temperate, sits mostly at 22/23° but has some night/day fluctuation. Water readings are 0/0/20 and done with a liquid test kit. Ph is 6.5. Did a 50% water change yesterday anyway. I just don't quite know what to do next. :(

Edit: thank you to those who commented. He has unfortunately now passed away. I intend to leave the female to herself for a few weeks, then perhaps consider introducing a new male and trying again, with a slight rescape and more cave options available from the start.

The picture quality may not be good enough to tell but if anyone can tell what the sex is I'd appreciate it. He's right under 4". Maybe I need to wait a bit more for em to grow?

Thanks y'all

SA | Help Sick Angelfish NSFW

Sick Angelfish

I am a relatively new aquarium keeper, having only been in the hobby for about a year. I got a pair of angelfish for my 40 gallon (shared with a Bolivian ram and 6 Lemon tetras, and a whiptail cat) and they lived happily for a few months. I was gone on a short weekend trip and when I got back, they had minor HITH disease. At the time I didn’t know what that was, so I left it alone. I then saw mild fin rot and transferred the juveniles to a 10 gallon hospital tank. The white patch on their side healed, but the polyguard and the stress of the small tank was too much. I returned them, and dosed Kanaplex in the water. It started to get worse again, so I got Maracyn. This helped, but killed all of the beneficial bacteria, and created minor ammonia buildup. I dealt with the ammonia via water change, and began to dose metroplex in food, and more kanaplex in water with a light water change every other day. Things were looking up, but this morning I checked their fins and saw a returning white patch (still small), and their top fin was almost completely split. I am at a loss for how to continue, and would greatly appreciate any advice. Thanks in advance!

General help Filter options for 180g

Thumbnail

I’m building my 180 gallon tank setup and looking at what to do for the filter. My dilemma is my tank is not drilled nor am I going to. So to me my options are

Option A is do a Sicce 950 SDC canister filter. Being newer haven’t seen much for reviews but to me looks better than the FX6.

Option B is run a Eshoppe HOB than do a 55 gallon DIY sump. Little worried about issues with the HOB but also thought about doing a overflow shutoff for the return pump so even if there is a issue it wouldn’t over flow the tank.

Identification Electric Blue Acara or Blue Ram?

Post image
13 Upvotes

Hello, please bear with me as I’m very new to fish and still learning lol. I work in animal welfare and we had a case where some fish were abandoned in an apartment about 2 years ago. One of them has remained alive over those 2 years and has been housed in our office where I work. We are having to move offices and couldn’t take him with us to the new location, so I took him home. I’m doing research on everything he needs and I was under the impression he was an electric blue ram, but I’m wondering if he may actually be an electric blue acara? Can anyone confirm? He’s probably about 3-4 inches and has been the same size since we have had him.

Thanks in advance for the help! Also any tips would be great as I’m very new to all this and just got my tank set up!

Its crazy how much this fish changes color, if i approach the tank he drops the stripe and dot usually and goes full green/brown. At night or during water change hes a dark brown w cream colored spots. Sometimes he goes a pale orange/red color briefly, not sure what the trigger is yet. Very fun fish to observe, and EXTREMELY timid. I think a giant danio could scare him

SA | Help Tapajos with a severum in a 75?

I have a 75 gallon with 6 new tapajos that are at about an inch, and also 10 Colombian tetras. I have a large HOB and 2 large sponge filters so I’m not worried about inadequate filtration. Would a red spot gold severum be ok in this tank long term? I have seen people saying yes and people saying no, and I actually asked 2 AI’s and I got a yes and a maybe. What do you think? I’m also open to other ideas but I thought they would be a really good look together I just don’t know about the size.
