Culture Traditional Chinese Medicine in China – Places to Visit?

Thumbnail
1 Upvotes

Hi everyone! In three weeks, I’m travelling to China for three weeks, visiting Beijing, Xi’an, Chengdu, Chongqing, Yangshuo, Shenzhen, and Hong Kong.
I’ve recently become really interested in traditional Chinese medicine and would love to explore this passion during my trip.
Does anyone have recommendations for interesting museums, traditional Chinese pharmacies, herbal shops, or other places where I could learn more as a curious beginner? Even somewhere beautiful or historically interesting would be great!
Any tips or hidden gems are welcome. Thank you! 😊

Hiii, I was wondering if any of you have ever attended Fudan University’s summer program and if you could share your experience with me (Was it worth the price? Are there any scholarships available? What was the accommodation like? etc.)

I’m thinking about attending a summer program at a Chinese university in 2027, so I’d really appreciate any feedback!

Thanks!!

Dating and Relationships my chinese bf cheated on me

I am 25M, North Indian gay man living in Shanghai, and my boyfriend is 29M Thai-Chinese.

We both live together and have been in love for the past two years. Honestly, I love him a lot.

We are emotionally, financially, and physically dependent on each other. Last month, I visited my hometown in India to meet my family for five days, but I told my boyfriend that I would be gone for seven days.

After five days, I came back without telling my boyfriend, and guess what I found? He was hooking up with his Chinese colleague, who is married to a woman and has two kids.

I feel really betrayed. How can someone not control their lust for just five or seven days? I am in a relationship, and I can commit to never seeing other men for as long as we are together. Even in a long-distance relationship, I can wait for weeks, months, or even a year.

After I caught them, I let them finish. Five minutes later, they both came out of the room, and his colleague left the apartment. Instead of crying and complaining, I decided to listen to his side of the story.

He said he couldn't control his lust for a week and told me that he loves me a lot because, as he knows, I am aware of all his ugly life experiences.

He mostly cries on my shoulder whenever he wants to, and he expects me to support him when he is going through tough times. I do support him, as I also do the same with him.

A month has passed, and I have also checked his phone secretly. There is nothing suspicious or anything that suggests he has been cheating again. I even installed dating apps using his ID on his phone, but he wasn't active on them either. The chats were old, and there was nothing in the archive.

However, after that incident, I started distancing myself from him. I have begun preparing myself for the possibility that we might separate. Now, I cry less and share fewer things with him. He has stayed the same, but I have started distancing myself little by little, without him noticing.

But I am also confused. Am I doing the right thing, considering that he is very emotionally and mentally dependent on me?

After that incident, I lost the trust I had built with him.

I would appreciate it if anyone could share their thoughts on this matter. I can't share this with my friends because we have a mutual friend group, and I can't share it with my family either, as they are already homophobic.

Seeking Advice (Serious) Has anyone bought a car through AutoCango (autocango.com)? Is it trustworthy?

Hi everyone,

I’m in Europe and I’m considering buying a used car from China through a platform called AutoCango (autocango.com). I found out it’s owned by Cango Inc., a company listed on the NYSE, but I couldn’t find any independent reviews, Reddit threads or Trustpilot ratings from real customers.

Has anyone here actually bought something through them or at least dealt with them? I’d like to know:

  • Did the whole process go smoothly (payment, export, shipping, delivery)?
  • Did the final price match the quote, or were there hidden fees?
  • Was the car in the condition described in the inspection report?
  • How was their communication and support if something went wrong?
  • Any red flags I should watch out for (e.g., payment methods, WhatsApp/WeChat contacts, fake accounts pretending to be them)?

Any experience, good or bad, or recommendations for a more reliable exporter would be really appreciated. Thanks!

General Question (Serious) China’s transit without visa

Hi all, I have a question about China's visa-free transit policy.

I'm planning this route:
Jakarta (CGK) → Hong Kong (HKG), staying 3 nights
Hong Kong (HKG) → Beijing (PEK), staying 4 nights
Beijing (PEK) → Jakarta (CGK)

Would this itinerary qualify for visa-free transit when I enter mainland China? I'm an Indonesian passport holder.

Thanks in advance!

Seeking Advice (Serious) Potential business trip to China (my first) - recommendations?

Hi fellow reditors. I am from the US and a VP-level tech exec at my company. I am / my company is making a new device and we've been considering using a Chinese company in Shenzhen as a supplier. Before we firm things up, I will want to visit this company, view their operations, and in general meet them for at least a few days. This would be my first trip ever to China.

In my searching thus far, it seems pretty standard recommendation to not bring my normal business phone, laptop, or similar - that I should bring only a minimal amount of technology that is considered "burner" tech and don't bring business confidential tech in that we wouldn't want in the hands of a Chinese state-owned competitor. I guess what I'm asking though here is how do folks that visit China for business do so effectively? Are there VPNs that folks know to be effective?

I am generally aware of a handful of must-have Chinese apps to download before I arrive (wechat, etc)... Beyond that, what else should I be thinking about?

It seems as though the best way to enter would be flying to Hong Kong and traveling to Shenzhen using the 5 day visa-on-arrival method. Am I right about this?

Travel How strict is Shenzhen Airlines with carry on weight?

Hello! I’ve booked an international flight with Shenzhen airlines from Beijing with a layover in Shenzhen. The official website says max weight for carry on item is 5kg- does anyone have experience with whether they’re typically strict in enforcing this?

I have a normal wheeled cabin suitcase weighing about 12kg- wondering if they are likely to let it through 🥲
TIA!

Culture Help with Chinese translations

Hello friends,

I'm a Brazilian person and I need you help.

I'm sorry I'm advance, I know this may not be the best subreddit to post it, but Chinese people on the internet usually know very well how to make things go viral. Could you please give any advice in how to make content reach more people in tiktok and xiaohong shu? I know some Mandarin Chinese (HSK 2), and don't want to sound disrespectful, could you guys help me with translations or direct me to some of subreddit you think is more appropriate for this?

As some of you may know, Brazil is going through a very difficult election right now, with the ghost of USA imperialism upon us.

They are supporting one of the worst candidates yet in your history, trying to steal our resources and transform us in a colony basically.

I'm with trying to reach more people through tiktok and xiaohong shu because Instagram and Facebook are boycotting everything I post about my candidate.

Thanks in advance!

Seeking Advice (Serious) CSC scholarship referee requirements:

Hi everyone,

I’ll be applying for a master’s through CSC Type A for 2027/28. Many Chinese universities require two Professor/Associate Professor references, but I have an Associate Professor and an Assistant Professor who directly supervised my Master’s and Bachelor’s theses, respectively.

Has anyone successfully gotten an exception or used an Assistant Professor’s letter despite this requirement? I’d appreciate firsthand experiences, especially with Type A applications!

This has given me a lot of headache, as I’ve been worrying about the referee situation more than any other aspect of my application. Everything is nearly sorted, except for me being unable to find an Associate Professor that could write the letter for me.
