All this for $69, you get a lot for your money. The only bad thing is it takes a while, definitely not fast food (minimum 1hr +) but this is great value for money and I believe not as much MSG as other places. On top of that I've been to a few proper hotpot places recently and it's crazy what they charge - I've paid $240+ just for the soup then you add beef platters for $350, $500 for seafood platter and not a huge amount.
Hi, does anyone have experience of hiring a part-time domestic helper? Someone who doesn't live with you, and works only maybe 4-6hrs each week? Looking for suggestions/advice. Many thanks
[EDIT FOR CLARITY] Not looking for illegal options. I am looking for someone who can help stay on top of my housework, part time. That person would need to be able to work legally in HK.
I don't know if anyone else uses the HKPL website to reserve and borrow books but I just have to vent a little.
Why is it that I have to change my password every 180 days and I can't reuse the last EIGHT passwords??? This is a library app, what do they think they're guarding?
Not even my bank enforces rules like this. Why do I need to keep track of 8 different sets of rotating passwords just to borrow books?
As a lot of hk redditors know, HSR's station doesn't have any grocery or food stall, let alone duty-free shop except some water stands, after passing through the border checking gates.
What causes this? I mean, in the Mainland(and in any other bullet-train-equipped nation), there are a lot of stalls and shops in stations' waiting rooms even inside the paid area.
After all, the problem of currency choice? (Which to pay in, RMB or HKD?)
Tai Po Football Club on Tuesday said it has mutually agreed with player Gabriel Mesquita to terminate his contract with immediate effect.
The Brazilian had been suspended from first-team training since Monday for allegedly sending racist messages on his social media account after being provoked by a comment.
Writing on social media, the club said its Disciplinary Committee completed its investigation and internal proceedings in a fair and objective manner, during which Mesquita had the opportunity to state his case.
The club added that it maintains a strict zero-tolerance policy against racism and improper conduct.
The 19-year-old midfielder made two appearances for Tai Po since joining the club this summer.
Just wondering what your experience has been like dealing with immigration officers. The one I dealt with today, at the Immigration tower, was extremely negative.
It seems as though the officers lacked basic human decency to treat me like a person that I am, albeit from a “3rd world country”. I wonder how much the colour of my skin had to do with it as I am brown.
I am a permanent resident as well and this was my first time at the immigration tower in 15+ years and I dont remember them being this rude.
When i approached the booth, the officer opened up the conversation with “what do you want”. As he was not using a mic and speaking through a face mask, I asked him “pardon?” as i could not hear him. Then he proceeded to yell “WHY ARE YOU HERE?”. I could excuse the remarks as English being his 2nd language perhaps but nothing could excuse the yelling.
I only hope immigration officers would get off their high horse and realize that the person on the other side of the booth is human as well who deserves respect just as someone who looks like them does.
I only just found out FlyTaxi was shutting down when I got this SMS today, apparently just months after Uber bought them. Last time it was HKTaxi, and now it seems they're doing the same to FlyTaxi.
OG HKTaxi was great and honestly it's been a lot harder to get a taxi reliably since Uber bought them and shut them down. Uber Taxi is just an inferior and less reliable product compared to HKTaxi, and I'm not even considering the higher prices I end up paying via Uber
I mean I realize industry leaders buying out smaller rivals to quash competition happens all the time but this seems a bit too anti-competitive and is clearly bad for consumers
Is there any affordable way to get vyvanse? I have a diagnosis and prescription in the UK, but am struggling to get hold of it living in HK. I'm have an appointment with HA public pychiatrist in a few months but I can't wait that long (and they even said it wouldnt be vyvanse that they would prescribe anyway).
I'm willing to pay the fee for a consultation with a private pyschiatrist, but my worry is that after that the actual cost of the meds will be too expensive. Does anyone know which private pyschiatrists charge what for vyvanse here? I'd be willing to pay up to 1K per month, but obviously would prefer lower.
I'm working on a project which I need a book to confirm a few references urgently. The book was written by a British subject who was hired by the Qing Dynasty to become a tax officer in a township in the New Territories before it became part of the colony in 1898. It is a bit old (published in the 30s) and rare and they don't have it in all the public libraries. I looked up the HKU libraty database, they have it in the Main Library and it's available for borrowing.
If you can help I can think of an arrangement that I won't take the book home and out of the campus. I can get the parts I need photocopied or just take photos of the pages. You can have it back within an hour or so, while I treat you for lunch, afternoon tea or breakfast. I'm not a graduate and while I do know two persons who work there, one is traveling and the other is currently on sabbatical. I've also looked up all online archives - none of them has made it publicly available.
A few things worth checking out around town this week if you're after something to do.
Butterfly Patisserie has a Les Choux pop-up on Wednesday, Oct 14, good excuse for an afternoon treat if you're near the area.
Over at Sotheby's Hong Kong, Chestnut Trees in Blossom opens the same day, Wednesday Oct 14, a nice one for anyone into visual arts and happy to browse for free.
WKCDA Tower is also running the Synchronicity Exhibition from Wednesday Oct 14, worth a look if you haven't been to the tower space before.
If you're shopping around Causeway Bay, SOGO has a Cup Of Therapy pop-up on, and New Town Plaza has a stamp rewards market running too, both good for killing time and maybe picking something up.
Today I was on a bus from Tin Shui Wai to Yuen Long, and the bus stopped for people to get on but didn’t open the doors for anyone to get off (not sure if the button was pressed). A young kid (south asian, not HK) kind of hovered near the door looking scared, and a local kid - maybe 11/12, gestured at him asking if he needed to get off. He did. The local kid pressed the button and shouted loudly at the driver (I guess to open the door, I don’t speak Cantonese). The driver did, the little kid got off. All good.
The local boy, I just saw his face burning red for the rest of the trip. It seemed he was so embarrassed for shouting loudly in front of a packed bus full of adults. No one else had made any effort to help.
I don’t know this kid, I’ll never see him again, but I was proud of him. Maybe the kids will be alright
Hi! I was in HK a few years ago and bought this incense from a nunnery. I love it so much and only use it every so often, I'd love to have some more or something that smells similar to it but I don't even know what I'm looking for lol.
It’s been almost a year since I’ve been to HKG and it was a great week for me, I miss waking up early and walking around causeway bay, eating at some of the restaurants around the area, the amazing views from Victoria peak, weather it was day or night.
I wouldn’t have thought visiting someone I met months before my arrival to the city would alter my love for her and this city, I continue to reminisce everything about this city.
Im live in the states and want to buy a msx 125 in hk to ride around in when visiting..is this mini allowed to go through the tunnels? I know you can't ride on the highways but idk if tunnels are considered highways. How do people from kowloon get to the hong kong side on a mini? By boat?
