Calgary Transit Calgary Transit is an essential service. It's time we started treating it that way, and I want your help

If you want to make transit better, I need you to be part of our transit tiger team.

I take the bus or CTrain several times a week because I want to experience the same transit system that thousands of Calgarians rely on every day.

I get to talk to operators and regular riders. As mayor it's my job to see what's working, what's frustrating, and what we need to fix. You learn a lot more riding the system than reading a report about it.

Because transit isn't a luxury. It's an essential service. It's how people get to work, get to school, make it to medical appointments, and get home to their families. And when a bus doesn't show up, or a train is delayed, there are real consequences. People miss shifts, lose wages, or spend hours of their lives waiting.

That's not good enough.

I want Calgary to have a transit system people are proud of. So we're putting together something like a transit tiger team. It's called the Transit Champions Network, and we're looking for 12 Calgarians who want to help make our transit system better.

Maybe your bus doesn't come often enough. Maybe you've got ideas for better connections. Or maybe you're a transit enthusiast who's been thinking about this stuff for years.

We want you at the table. You don't need to be an expert. We're looking for people who ride transit, care about its future, and aren't afraid to speak up.

You'll meet four times a year to share ideas, identify challenges, and help build support for better transit. Applications are open until October 27 at calgarytransit.com/tcn.

Calgary deserves a transit system that works for the people who need it most. And I want those people helping us build a better one.

So put your name forward. I want you on this team!

My dog got out of our house in Montgomery on Wednesday night around 8:00 pm.

She's about 90 lbs, large black Sheperd mix. She looks like a German shepherd with floppy ears. She has a black and pink tongue.

She responds to Coda.

We have searched the immediate neighborhood, streets, and river path way.

Unfortunately no collar on when she got out but she is microchipped.

There is a loud and proud separatist in the Wildwood community and he has started putting his personal signs out on the main Spruce Drive road. Wondering if this is allowed or am I able to remove them, or maybe report to 311. This exact sign was on the seppie's lawn a few houses away for a few weeks. Any advice?

Local Shopping/Services Calgary Grocery Deals (October 15 to 21, 2026)

Happy Wednesday!

This is a continuation of my pattern of posting what I think are decent grocery deals with the hope that this will save some people some money. As noted previously this is heavily skewed to items that I and my family eat. There are probably additional items that are good deals but I don't know it because they aren't items I use but hopefully my list is still useful to you.

A few quick reminders:

  • PC Optimum points are collected at No Frills and Superstore. 1,000pts is worth $1.
  • Scene+ points are collected at Safeway, Sobeys and FreshCo. 100pts is worth $1.
  • The value of Save on Foods points depends on what you redeem them for. If you redeem them for a 4L jug of milk then 1,000pts is worth about $1.50. Other redemptions might make them more or less valuable.

Superstore, No Frills, FreshCo and Save on Foods are generally willing to price match identical products from (some) other major grocery stores if you show them the item in the competitor’s flyer while checking out so knowing what is on sale at stores that you don't visit can still be useful. There are some restrictions on this... FreshCo won't price match Safeway or Sobeys. Superstore (at least some locations) won't price match Coop. The No Frills on 85st SW won't price match FreshCo.

Finally, thank you to everyone that has posted positive comments. It's always nice to receive positive feedback.

Real Canadian Superstore:

  • No Name Naturally Imperfect bell peppers (2.5lb): $6.00
  • 20,000pts for every $100 spent various baby items including diapers (app offer)
  • Raspberries (340g): $4.98
  • Classico pasta sauce (600ml): $2.97, buy 1 get 500pts, effectively making them $2.47ea
  • Kraft salad dressing (425ml): $2.97, buy 1 get 500pts, effectively making them $2.47ea
  • No Name Naturally Imperfect mandarins (2lb): $2.99
  • Gala apples: $0.99/lb
  • Avocado (bag of 6): $3.58
  • Get 20,000pts when you spend $100+ on select Proctor & Gamble products including Pampers diapers. It looks like this can be spread across multiple purchases and is once per account between October 8 and November 6.
  • 10,000pts when you buy 4 eligible General Mills products between October 15 and November 11. It’s not clear if these all need to be purchased in the same transaction or not. It looks like this is once per account and is an offer that must be loaded.
  • Hershey’s Halloween chocolates (100 count): $10.99 – this is one of the best prices I have seen this year.

NoFrills:

  • Raspberries (170g): $2.49
  • Avocado (bag of 6): $3.58
  • No Name bacon (375g): $3.50
  • Post cereal (311-525g): $3.00
  • Hershey’s Halloween chocolates (100 count): $11.99 – decent, Superstore is better this week. It looks like there is also a 4,000pts when you spend $20 offer on this which makes them a great deal (especially if you price match Superstore)
  • Cucumbers (3-pack): $3.99
  • No Name Naturally Imperfect red or russet potatoes (20lb): $8.00
  • Roma tomatoes: $1.99/lb
  • Carrots (5lb): $4.99
  • Mandarins (4lb): $6.99 – decent, Superstore is better this week
  • Celery: $2.49
  • Get 20,000pts when you spend $100+ on select Proctor & Gamble products including Pampers diapers. It looks like this can be spread across multiple purchases and is once per account between October 8 and November 6.
  • 10,000pts for every $50 spent various baby items including diapers
  • Nestle Halloween chocolates (50 count): $7.99, buy 1 get 2,000pts, effectively making them $5.99ea

Calgary Coop:

  • Yop drinkable yogurt (200ml): $1.00 – decent, FreshCo is better this week if you can use 5 or more
  • Campbell’s Chunky soup (515ml): $2.50 – decent, FreshCo is better this week

FreshCo:

  • Doritos and Ruffles: $3.00, buy 4 get 300pts, effectively making them $2.25ea when you buy groups of 4
  • Ambrosia apples: $1.00/lb

  • Palmolive dish soap (828ml): $2.00
  • Ivory soap (10-pack): $5.00, buy 2 get 300pts, effectively making them $3.50ea when you buy pairs
  • Save $10 when you buy 5 or more selected Kraft Heinz products.

Safeway / Sobeys:

  • Pork tenderloin: $3.99/lb
  • Tomatoes on the vine: $1.99/lb

Municipal Affairs Voting experience - First Assembly Church

TL;DR: No queue, nice experience. Go vote during advance voting days, there are practically no line-ups. You’re done in 10 mins.

Please see our first hand voting experience. We opted for advance voting. No political opinions have been mentioned in this review. This is simply the steps we took and observations about our voting experience.

We voted today (October 14,2026).

Entered: 3.15pm out 3.32pm.

Line-up: Saw a few people voting but there was only three people ahead of us. Overall, I’d say there were only 5-6 people actually voting throughout our time there. So, no lineup, almost empty.

First impression: Centre is very clean. It’s a large hall every table has some distance/privacy. At the very end are 10 boxes with different question numbers and different colours. You vote behind a secret counter, fold the vote go to the area with the 10 boxes and started putting the responses one at a time in each box (starting from question 1).

Reason for advance voting: My name on the elections Canada site reflected my maiden name. I have assumed my married name. When I called they said it would take a while for the update to reflect. As I was unsure what that would look like, I took all my ids plus marriage certificate to the voting centre.

Experience: When we first arrived we met a person who was checking voting cards. I explained my situation to him and I was sent to a desk where a lady helped me. She said since I have all my ids I can vote with whatever name is reflected in the system. She sent us to table 6 (I think there were 10 tables at least). Table 6 was busy so the gentleman at Table 5 called me over. My partner went to Table 6 instead.

My experience (Table 5): The gentleman couldn’t find me registered at all! Except that elections Canada had confirmed my deets (under my maiden name) a few days ago! Anyway, he was very kind and added my name and made me sign a form with my address and checked my ids. He then proceeded to sign on each question ballot and handed them to me.

My husband (Table 6): They checked his id and gave him his ballot.

We then voted behind a screen. There were chairs behind some of them, you can sit and vote. I had already read the questions and decided my answers (in advance) but each ballot has the full question, you can read and take your time and mark your answers.

You then go to the space with 10 boxes- that are lined up next to each other. You start with Question 1. The person behind the counter asks to see the sign. So you tilt the paper they nod, then you put it in the box. Then you both move towards Question 2. Repeat till Question 10.

Then you get your I voted sticker! And… you’re done.

When we were leaving, an older lady entered and she had some reading issue (I think). One of the organisers offered to read her the questions while she voted. This info may be useful in case you need some assistance.

PS: There was a milk & honey coffee bar outside but it wasn’t open.

Seeking Advice 6months since my dad unexpectedly passed away and looking for help

I recently relocated to Calgary after the sudden death of my dad. It’s been a little over 6months since the passing and I’m really struggling mentally. I thought I was doing a little better, able to function at work to an extent, being around family and helping my mom with the estate etc. I cry everyday but I’ve noticed I’ve been surviving this whole time and now I’m to the point where I’m exhausted and having mental breakdowns. I don’t see a light at the end of the tunnel, I feel numb and haven’t felt any type of joy or happiness, my mental fog is driving me crazy (the last 6months is an actual blur), I’ve taken 2 sick days these last 2 weeks (I’m in corporate), and I don’t know what to do. I don’t have a family doctor here so it would be difficult to get medical leave or STD… I have a therapist here at least. I’m not sure if I need to take a break, I took 3 weeks off on std at the beginning but now I’ve been feeling even worst. I'm lost and don’t know where to go or do, any advice or suggestions is really appreciated, thanks!

Question Cool planes over the SE about 45 minutes ago

I'm not a plane spotter so bear with me. My five year old noticed there was a cool plane flying East over the southeast of the city about 45 minutes ago and Google isn't helping me figure out what it was. It made a very different whirring sound, higher pitch than the usual commercial jets. It looked a little sleeker and more angular - maybe military? It was followed by a bulkier, louder military looking plane about 45 seconds behind it.

Anybody know what that was? My five year old thanks you in advance

Local Event Smooth Voting process at Glacier Ridge Village (Foothills)

I went and cast my vote and was in and out within 5-10 mins. There was barely a lineup (12:30 pm today).

Advance polling is until the 17th and if you are in the foothills region this might be a better place to go to than Symons Valley Church. Although I never went to visit Symons valley. Friendly PSA

Recommendations Looking for a non-judgmental dentist

Hi, I can't remember the last time I saw a dentist. It was definitely pre-covid. My teeth are in bad shape.

Does anyone know of a good, non-judgmental dentist who won't charge an arm, a leg, and my firstborn to fix my teeth? I know my teeth are messed up. I don't need to be reminded.

My preference is for downtown or somewhere easily accessible by transit.

Municipal Affairs Calgary is creating jobs and beating the national unemployment rate. Separation threatens everything we're building

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

1.0k Upvotes

Alberta separation threatens everything we've worked so hard to build. And Calgary's latest jobs numbers show exactly what's at stake.

Some people want to gamble our economic future on breaking up Canada. I think that's a terrible idea, especially when you look at how well Calgary is doing.

New numbers from Statistics Canada show Calgary's unemployment rate dropped to 6.3% in September. That's lower than Edmonton, Toronto, Ottawa, and the national average.

And here's the big one. Calgary has the highest employment rate of any major Canadian city, at 66.8%.

We're seeing thousands of new jobs in health care, construction, and public services. Despite tariffs, trade wars, and global uncertainty, Calgary is outperforming much of the country.

Now, I know not everyone is feeling that success. People are still struggling to find work, and businesses are facing real challenges.

But think about what separation would mean. Businesses questioning whether to invest here. Uncertainty about our currency, pensions, and trade. Jobs and investment potentially moving elsewhere.

Why would we put all of that at risk? We've worked too hard to build one of Canada's strongest economies to gamble it away on separation.

We don't need to leave Canada to succeed. We're already proving what Alberta can accomplish as part of Canada.

Let's keep building on that success, together.
