Im a 21 year old male looking to buy my first gun. Grew up shooting .22 rifles at Boy Scout camp in my early teens but never since. Done a pretty substantial research and gotten my FSC so hoping to get a little input before I make my purchase tomorrow. Not concerned about self defense aspect.
Here's what I identified as pros of the Savage Mark II G
1) Bolt action, can learn fundamentals without just rapidly pulling the trigger downrange
2) Wood stock, as opposed to plastic. Something about wood makes it feel more durable to me
3) It's a .22LR so cheap ammo for a senior in college
Side note-
I will be getting a cable lock, but as far as driving to and from the range is it okay in a soft sided gun bag with the cable lock? Or does it need to be hard sided with a lock?
Also planning on putting a rail on it in order to attach an optic, but not looking to break the bank
