Cleveland Browns vs. Baltimore Ravens
Welcome back, Dawg Pound.
The three-game win streak is over. The road trip to MetLife ended in a soggy 17-12 loss after the offense managed a season-low 198 yards, Deshaun Watson took eight sacks, and a botched punt snap flipped the field for Braelon Allen’s go-ahead 22-yard touchdown run. Cleveland sits at 3-2, tied with the Steelers and Bengals in a crowded AFC North while the Ravens sit alone at the top at 4-1.
Now it’s a home date with the team that just took care of business in Atlanta. Lamar Jackson and company are rolling. Todd Monken is staring down his old Baltimore system on the other sideline. The offense that found ways to win the last three weeks looked completely out of rhythm in the rain against the Jets. Protection has to clean up, the run game needs to reassert itself, and the defense that has kept this team competitive has another tough test ahead.
This is the first real measuring-stick game of the Monken era. Division game. Home crowd. Opportunity to stay right in the thick of the North.

Injury Report:
Cleveland Browns
Baltimore Ravens
Matchup Details:
Home vs. Road Trends:
The Browns are a perfect 2-0 at home this season (21-18 over Carolina, 27-24 over Pittsburgh on Thursday night) and 1-2 on the road (loss at Jacksonville, win at Tampa Bay, loss at the Jets). Cleveland returns to Huntington Bank Field looking to stay undefeated in front of the Dawg Pound against a Ravens team that is 1-1 at home but a perfect 3-0 on the road (wins at Indianapolis, Dallas, and Atlanta). Baltimore has shown it can travel and win, while the Browns have made Huntington Bank Field a tough place to play so far under Todd Monken.
Key Matchup:
Browns defensive front vs. the Ravens’ rushing attack (Derrick Henry + complementary pieces). Baltimore is averaging 164.4 rushing yards per game (3rd in the NFL) and 5.1 yards per carry. They just gouged Atlanta for 208 yards on the ground in Week 5. Cleveland’s defense has been solid overall (16 sacks through five games) but will be tested by a physical, complementary run game that can wear down fronts and set up play-action. Stopping the run early and forcing the Ravens into obvious passing situations is critical for the Browns, especially after the offensive line got pushed around for eight sacks in the rain at MetLife. If the Browns can’t slow Henry and the ground game, it will be a long afternoon for the offense to keep pace.

"Watson did not have a bad game" - Some non-ball knower
He played the same level of below average bordering on bad that he has played every game this season. In fact, Watson plays at most one good quarter of football a game.
Luckily for us, that good quarter has typically come in the 4th quarter. (the exception being the Steelers game's 2nd quarter)
Basically Watsons formula for winning is based on the defense keeping the opposing offense in check for all 4 quarters and for one of our talented skill position guys to make at least one amazing play a game (denzel boston every time). The reason why Watson is in the position to do game-winning drives is because Watson didn't execute for the other 3 quarters of the game.
Watson is not seeing the field. He doesn't know when hes hot. He is not changing protections. His accuracy is inconsistent, and he has consistently limited YAC with his throws. People slander Minkah for the hit on KC, when KC's head wouldn't have been the point of contact, if the ball was thrown accurately. Watson stares down his 1st reads, and panics before getting to his 2nd & 3rd progressions. Defensive backs are dropping his interceptions, and he is picking up his own fumbles. You can see this in every game, win or loss.
I do not think Watson has improved, since week 1. Over time it has become apparent that the offense is kind of bending itself backwards to accommodate him. He often looks panicked on anything that isn't scripted throws.
And there is a difference between designed/scripted throws and first read throws via progression. Watson looks best, when the throw is predetermined. The high percentage catch & throw plays to the outside, that coaches give to rookies to give them confidence. I am honestly shocked teams haven't picked off our habitual tendency to throw an intermediate hitch or out route to the left side field at the start of halves or drives. (this isn't for lack of trying. Pretty sure the steelers dropped this INT)
This jets game showed that when everything around Watson is not bolstering him, we don't win. This jets game is a representation of last year's team.
This game essentially answers what is driving the force behind our recent success. It also is a sneak peak at the sustainability of this success.
Watson is not the reason we've won, but he will probably be the reason we lose.
Edit: These initial replies are certainly showing that I need to improve my messaging. This is not a pro-watson post
The game loss is not his fault legitimately, but he's still playing bad. The point i'm making is that against the Watson typical poor performance wasn't saved by the rest of the roster. Partially because he threw a hospital ball to one of the youngin's capable of saving him.
The Jets loss may not be his fault, but many losses in the future will be, because the core template for Watson's success, is that our defense plays lights out for 4 quarters and one of our rookies makes a play when it matters.
It has nothing to do with Watson, in fact given our 18pts per game there is far more evidence that Watson is the reason we aren't BLOWING TEAMS OUT
Gonna go ahead and apologize for being confusing. It's a communication issue on my hand if so many folks were confused. The author is at fault not the read lol.

Monken said “has a chance to play week 6” anyone excited for his return?

It’s not only a question of how to fix things. There’s also a question about who will be available this week on both sides of the ball. Running back Quinshon Judkins and linebacker Carson Schwesinger left the stadium after Sunday’s game wearing protective boots on their injured ankles.
On Monday, Browns coach Todd Monken said both would be considered day to day ahead of Sunday’s big AFC North game. The Ravens are in first place in the division and lead the Browns, Pittsburgh Steelers and Cincinnati Bengals — all of whom are 3-2 — by one game in the standings.
Monken rarely talks about injuries in detail, especially early in the week. He said Judkins “had a little tweak in his ankle,” which might explain why he was pulled for an important third down early in the second half against the Jets.
Running back Rocket Sanders suffered a hip injury in the second half versus the Jets, and Tuesday, the Browns placed him on injured reserve and officially signed running back Audric Estime from the Minnesota Vikings’ practice squad.
Monken also said running back Dylan Sampson, who’s been on IR since suffering a knee injury in the opener, could return to practice this week. Sampson and Jaleel McLaughlin, who’s been the No. 3 back in Sampson’s absence, are smaller, shiftier-type runners. Estime is a 227-pound back who’s probably viewed as more of a fill-in for the plays Judkins and Sanders would generally operate if needed.
For now, we can figure Estime will aim to learn the offense in anticipation of being active Sunday. He’s guaranteed to be on the active roster for at least three weeks because he was signed from another team’s practice squad, and Sanders’ IR designation means he’s out for at least four weeks.
Though the run game showed signs of life in wins over the Carolina Panthers and the Steelers, it’s been inconsistent overall and hasn’t produced many explosive plays. Judkins has often been hit in the backfield, and the Browns’ running backs rank 31st in yards before contact after five weeks at 0.7, per TruMedia.
The Browns are 30th in total rushing EPA and 32nd in rushing success rate, and the overall numbers would be worse if not for Deshaun Watson’s success on scrambles as part of his three fourth-quarter game-winning drives. Watson averages 4.5 yards per rush on 37 attempts, and Judkins averages 3.0 per rush on 73 attempts. Sanders, who had emerged as the No. 2 back in recent weeks, has nine carries and 11 receptions.

Curious on y'all's hot takes for the rest of the season with the browns. I think for something short term, I believe we are able to bounce back and win at home against the Ravens and take 1st place back in the division. I believe the loss will fire everyone up.
Longer term, I think that we are able to make the playoffs as a fringe wild card team given the rest of our schedule, I don't think we are able to win out the division though.

I was here last year for EPA ratings, QBR, every throw and sack dissected and labeled as the worst QB of all time for getting sacked 6 times with a win and getting shitted on for throwing for 365 yards in a losing effort in bad weather season.
But THIS YEAR and a different QB…
the team, the offensive line, holding on to the ball isn’t that bad, its bad weather … the discourse all of a sudden is very forgiving… I wonder why

EPA and CPoE are both mechanisms to establish how a QB is expected to perform, given what average bloke would do on a play. This week was, ahh, not great.
curious how yall would rate him so far?
He breaks down how the issues is multiple things including playing angles, needing different looks, the player execution, and (yes) the issues with shotgun formation. Good read from a former NFL lineman and someone who coaches linemen.

I want to try to take my dad to a game, he's a lifelong browns fan and the Jan 3rd game is gonna be the only game I'll be back from deployment for. He can't walk without a walker, and I've never been to a game so I dont know how he'd do.
Anyone with experience attending with handicapped people have any insights to share? I haven't discussed this with him yet. My first post was taken down yesterday and mods won't answer me why it got taken down, hopefully this one stays up.
I am aware of the drama surrounding him but is there any kind of update on when he would potentially play (if ever)?

Yesterday was obviously insane with eight sacks alone. But wtf is up? Is the o-line that bad? Do they just hate Watson? The jets have improved their Defense sure but eight sacks in one game is madden level play lol. Say yesterday was more normal and they got 1-3 sacks. The browns would still be top ten .
