Had some TLC performed on my 2019 Nardo Grey RS5 Sportback after a detailing disaster with a prior detailer (not all of the work was related to that though).

Work included removing the old partial PPF and installing full-front PPF, a two-step paint correction, 5-year ceramic coating, restoring the gloss-black window trim with new vinyl, replacing and re-tinting the rear driver’s-side window, and repainting the hood.

In this spec, this is the most beautiful modern Audi imo, it just looks so expensive and head turning (ignores the interior*), it just needs a classic logo and some sharp body lines... but tell me WHY in the world is the S badge in black? isn'it supposed to be Aluminum optics??

Let me know what you think of this configuration!!

Just hit 50k on my 2021 Audi A5 Sportback

This is my second A5 Sportback. Love the styling, sportiness and the occasional compliment from strangers.

Yes, that’s a read ribbon on the steering column. Every time I buy a new car, my aunt puts a red ribbon on my steering column. It’s apparently an Italian tradition for safety. It’s always her first priority and then she throws a bunch of change in my back seats 😂

Anyone else have traditions with their cars?

Also, 50k miles on my A5 with no major issues ever. I hope I can get this baby past the 100k mark.

Is there anything I should get prepared for?

Have a great day everybody!

Very happy customer here. Have been driving this A5 Sportback S line for about a month now and am very pleased. Bought it preowned w/ 30k miles which certainly is a lot in that amount of time but it had tons of service records. Felt like a ton of car for $30k though! Glad someone else ate that deprecation for me. One question: am I missing out by not having the new, massive wrap around infotainment system? This still has the smaller 10 inch screen from the older models. It works just fine and does everything I need. Am I just getting some fomo or is it dramatically different?

How do you think I should repair this? I don't want to replace the entire door card just for that. It doesn't need to be absolutely perfect, I just want a decent looking repair that will stop it getting worse. Any advice appreciated.

Discussion Is an 2021 A6 55TFSI supposed to be this problematic?

Post image
8 Upvotes

Hello,

In May of this year, I purchased a 2021 A6 55 TFSI Quattro. It had about 40,000 miles on it and two previous owners with adequate service records. Since then, I’ve had multiple expensive problems:

Passenger engine mount collapsed, dashboard throwing malfunction code (putting a bunch of false error lights up) and now I have a turbo underboost code (P0299).

I’m wondering if i just didn’t do enough research, because everything I found had talked about how these were pretty solid, especially after the rocker arm problems were fixed on the newer MY’s of the EA389. Now also afraid of my water pump going too…

Would love to know if this is common on this model/powertrain and if anyone else has had these problems, or if I’m just unlucky.

Thanks

2017 Audi A4 - never changed battery

It’s been over 10 years since I’ve had my car and it’s never had any issues (got it August 2016). I’ve been seeing some stuff about car batteries dying recently which just got me thinking about mine.

I have ~73k miles on it and I barely drive it during the week (working remotely). On the weekends I tend to take it for longer drives which I’ve heard helps with the charge. I also don’t live in a cold climate area.

I’m thinking of taking it to the shop just to check the battery levels, and also because I don’t think Audis gives a notification that the car battery is low — or does it? I also have to do an oil change and tire rotation soon anyway. Should I just wait it out until I get a notification within if there is one? I’m thinking a decade of use warrants a check.

Another thing I’ve heard is that Audis just have some superb car battery life, which makes me wonder if I do change it from the original factory provided one, life will never be as good as I first had it and I’ll probably have to change the new one every 3-5 years sadly.

Any advice is much appreciated!

Should I go for it? 2023 SQ8

Current is 2018 S4 Prestige with just over 110k miles on it. Has been an amazing vehicle, never had an issue with it and the only repairs were all preventative maintenance. Did the water pump and sensors etc before it killed itself with coolant. Changed oil filter stand, drive belt, pcv valve. Otherwise just regular oil, tire and brake changes.

Have always loved the Q8 and drove one recently and then drove the SQ8. Wow what a difference. Found a nice used one with just over 20k miles which would give me 30k miles and one year of factory warranty left if I went for it.

Talk me out of it, or talk me into it. LOL!

Discussion Audi A3 Sportback 8V (2016) phantom braking

• Upvotes

Hi Reddit,

For about six months now I've had a seriously critical problem with my Audi A3 Sportback 8V, 1.4 TFSI, 110 kW (2016). No workshop (Audi service and an independent shop) has been able to help me so far, and I'm slowly losing hope.

Here's the problem:
When it rains or the road is wet, my car brakes by itself from about 100 km/h upwards. It happens sporadically, with varying duration (0.5-7 seconds) and intensity, and the car slows down by roughly 20-50 km/h. For example, if I'm doing 120 km/h on the motorway, I'm down to 70 within a few seconds.
The steering feels unstable during the automatic braking (maybe only on one side?).
I've already almost had an accident several times, but the workshops don't seem to take it seriously.

My car has cruise control but no adaptive cruise control (distance assist). The problem occurs whether cruise control is on or not.
According to the workshops and the ADAC, there's nothing noteworthy in the fault memory that could cause this problem.
No warning lights come on in the dashboard either.
On days without rain, the car behaves completely normally and shows no sign of the problem.
One of the workshops also changed the brake disc drying setting in the on-board computer from 2 to 1, but without success.

My theory is that some cable is exposed and that rain bridges a signal, even though the workshops should have noticed something like that.

Has anyone heard of this problem before and has an idea, or does anyone know someone in the Hamburg area who could help me?

Thanks!

Discussion 2023 RS5 Nonfunctional MMI

Long story short, my MMI was previously functioning but have numerous glitches, most of which had existing technical bulletins about so I scheduled with the nearest dealership (in Canada) for diagnosis/confirmation and a software update. The dealership then proceeded to pooch my MMI on September 4 making it completely non-functional...won't even boot. They told me they needed to open a technical case with Audi and would get back to me. Follow up a week later and they tell me they did the same thing to two other customers so this is now a bigger issue and they've escalated to Audi Germany. Weeks go by with no feedback so I call the dealership and they are still troubleshooting with Audi and now cases at that dealership have more than doubled I'm told. I escalate to Audi Canada and open a case and they tell me either way, they'll get back to me in 5 business days with an update. They never do so I call Audi Canada back and they tell me all they've done is send an email to the dealership and they are waiting on a response. The same dealership that can't show me the courtesy of giving me an update without me asking for one.

1) Anybody else being told there is a global MMI corrupted update out there?
2) Audi Canada and customer support seems completely incompetent and unwilling to show even basic customer service like calling someone back with an update like they promise. They just open a case and it goes into the vast void of nothingness.

Rant over....

Buy out my 2023 A5 Sportback or move into something else

My 2023 A5 45 Sportback Premium Plus lease is up soon and I’m pretty torn on what to do.

Car has about 21k miles and the buyout is around $31k with taxes. I actually really like the car. I love the way this body style looks, it drives well, it’s practical, and I’m honestly not a huge fan of the newer A5 styling.

My only real complaint is I wish it had a little more power.

I’ve thought about moving into something faster, with the S5, RS5, or maybe even an M3 being the main things that come to mind. I don’t really want to go smaller though, so something like an RS3 is probably out.

Mainly curious what you guys would do.

Does $31k seem like a good buyout for a 2023 A5 45 with 21k miles?

If I keep it, I’d definitely be interested in getting a little more out of it. I know the B9.5 A5 doesn’t seem to have nearly as many tuning options as some of the other Audi platforms, so I’m curious what people are actually running and what you’d recommend. Tune, bolt-ons, etc. anything that makes a noticeable difference without turning the car into a reliability headache?

And if I move on, is the S5 enough of a jump or would you just go straight to something like an RS5/M3?

I keep going back and forth because buying out a car I already know I like for $31k seems pretty reasonable, but I also don’t want to buy it and 6 months later wish I had used the opportunity to upgrade.

Tech P173500 code

Hey, so i bought an Audi TT S line 2019 last week, today my dad drove my car and a transmission fault code came up. The car went into limb mode and couldnt use gear 1,3,5,7.

He got home and scanned the car and the P173500 DSG code came up. How likely is it for the mechatronic unit to fail? Yesterday was the last time i drove my car and it drove perfectly, no issues.

The dealer we bought it from did the DSG service 2 weeks ago. Car has 118.000km.

Tech Q5 2022 infotainment

Hello, i bought a 2022 q5 tdi 40. I'm waiting for it, it will arrive from Germany in like 3 weeks, bought from audi dealership. I read that i cant use Spotify without android auto. I mean see the lists and choose a song, not just previous/next song with bluetooth. Is there any solution because I absolutely hate using android auto.

Also, any tips and tricks will be appreciated and anything you have to tell me about reliability. Dpf shouldn't be an issue, i live countryside so the smallest trip is 20km and back.

4 Spoke wheel to carbon fiber conversion on B8.5 A4

Hello all, i finally joined the audi team 2 days ago by buying a 2015 B8.5 A4 S line, and im so happy with it, only thing i dont really LOVE about it is the 4 spoke steering wheel with no paddle shifters, so i really wanna get a carbon fiber wheel, something not too much and clean enough, some concerns i have tho:

  1. the airbag is different, is the wiring gonna be different too?
  2. i dont have paddle shifters right now, who or what do i need to code them in
  3. making sure all the buttons work as OEM intended.

if anyone has any information please help me out.

Tech What else do I need when changing water pump on Audi Q7?

I have a 2020 Q7, and I'm going to change the water pump because my friend noticed a little bit of dried coolant around it. I have a home mechanic that I use, he's good and does various cars. However, I am buying all the parts, and he's only doing the work. He's going to change out the water pump and the thermostat, but I don't know what else to buy so that he's able to successfully do the repair.

Some places online say that I need to replace a bunch of hoses in that area of the engine because once they are removed to access the water pump, they are brittle and start to leak. Is that true? If so, what exactly do I need? Also, are all the gaskets that need to be replaced included with the water pump and thermostat? It's difficult to find the correct answer so that the mechanic has everything on hand. Thanks in advance.

Audi a3 problems after recall help please!

I took my 2011 Audi a3 (worth about £2200) in for a recall 3 weeks ago, the next day the engine management light came on, the glow plug light came on flashing and the car now has a massive loss of power. I took the car back to the garage and they quoted me £2400 to fix it. They didn’t deny that it is broken because of the recall but said that because the recall was released 9 years ago any damage from the recall is not under the recall’s warranty. I have escalated it through Audi customer service but don’t seem to be getting anywhere and have been without my car for three weeks now. Is there anything I can do, any way of going through insurance or an escalating to a difference team in Audi?
