Hi Reddit,
For about six months now I've had a seriously critical problem with my Audi A3 Sportback 8V, 1.4 TFSI, 110 kW (2016). No workshop (Audi service and an independent shop) has been able to help me so far, and I'm slowly losing hope.
Here's the problem:
When it rains or the road is wet, my car brakes by itself from about 100 km/h upwards. It happens sporadically, with varying duration (0.5-7 seconds) and intensity, and the car slows down by roughly 20-50 km/h. For example, if I'm doing 120 km/h on the motorway, I'm down to 70 within a few seconds.
The steering feels unstable during the automatic braking (maybe only on one side?).
I've already almost had an accident several times, but the workshops don't seem to take it seriously.
My car has cruise control but no adaptive cruise control (distance assist). The problem occurs whether cruise control is on or not.
According to the workshops and the ADAC, there's nothing noteworthy in the fault memory that could cause this problem.
No warning lights come on in the dashboard either.
On days without rain, the car behaves completely normally and shows no sign of the problem.
One of the workshops also changed the brake disc drying setting in the on-board computer from 2 to 1, but without success.
My theory is that some cable is exposed and that rain bridges a signal, even though the workshops should have noticed something like that.
Has anyone heard of this problem before and has an idea, or does anyone know someone in the Hamburg area who could help me?
Thanks!
