Warning: this ended up being a rant.
I’ve been commuting to DTLA for about 3 years, and I’ve noticed a significant increase in the number of 18 wheelers in the fast lane. I usually try to be give them the benefit of the doubt and assume they’re trying to get into the HOV lane, but in the past three months, I’ve seen about 5 trucks just sitting in the passing lane. Even if they’re passing, I thought it was courteous to stay as far right as possible. For context, I take the 110 freeway, which has, what? 6+ lanes?
Tonight, I was driving home and I admit that I was probably a bit more aggressive than necessary. However, I did let him know that he needed to get over by flashing my lights from a distance. Maybe they didn’t see me? I flashed again, and the cars behind me started flashing as well. He just sat there, so they all went around him. When I passed him, he flashed his lights back at me. I thought maybe a cop was there, but there was NO ONE. I know driving shouldn't have this much control over me, but it drives me insane.
I thought there was an etiquette for truck drivers. I don’t remembering this happening when I was younger. When the average joe sits in the passing lane, I usually think, “Oh, what a terrible driver.” But I thought getting a CDL was pretty difficult and required a good amount of training? Maybe I'm just being a Karen 😭
